In this episode, I catch up with Michelle French, a HIQA grads member, for her second appearance on the podcast. We chat about some big challenges Michelle has faced over the last two years, like being the designated driver during a 30th birthday winery tour, discussing how she managed her cravings on the day and how playing the craving forward, with honestyWe explore how Michelle has embraced her creative side as a form of meditation, helping her find peace and focus. Now, two years into her sobriety, she finds that thoughts of alcohol rarely cross her mind—a place she once thought was way out of reach. Her story has not only transformed her own life but has also been a source of inspiration for her son and those around her.Michelle opens up about the difficult times, including the hospitalisation and passing of her mother, and how even though it was a tough time she stayed committed to her sobriety through it all. We talk about the day she almost threw in the towel and gave into the SB but reached out for support which kept her from drinking. Through these stories, Michelle shows us that sobriety is a deeply personal but also fulfilling journey. Her reflections remind us that we can face life's biggest challenges and emotions while staying true to the person we aspire to be. Michelle's journey is a beautiful example of resilience and the power of doing things your own way. I love her so much. I hope you love this episode too. In this episode of the ESG Insider podcast we're exploring solutions to sustainability challenges in food systems and agriculture.  Climate change poses risks to global food supply chains and agricultural production. At the same time, the world's growing population means food needs are increasing.  We discuss sustainable agriculture trends with Michelle French, Director of Global Sustainability Programs at global commodities agriculture company ADM. Speaking on the sidelines of the GreenBiz conference in Phoenix in February, Michelle describes the challenges of tracking emissions associated with farming, the benefits of regenerative agriculture, and how ADM is working with farmers.   Also in this episode, we hear from Troy Albright, Founder and CEO of a vertical, climate-controlled aeroponic farm in Phoenix that uses a technology that reduces land and water use while also helping address food insecurity.   And we talk with Stephen Ritz, founder of the nonprofit organization Green Bronx Machine, which teaches students in hundreds of schools around the world how to grow food. Stephen explains how STEM programs can transform youth academically as well as their relationship to food and sustainability.  Listen to our episode on how climate change is impacting the US economy, human health and agriculture: https://www.spglobal.com/esg/podcasts/how-climate-change-is-impacting-us-economy-human-health-and-agriculture   Read more about supply chains in the S&P Global Supply Chain 2024 Look Forward report: https://www.spglobal.com/en/research-insights/featured/special-editorial/look-forward/look-forward-volume-2-2024  Learn about TPM, a conference S&P Global organizes for the trans-Pacific and global container shipping and logistics community: https://events.joc.com/tpm/about/index.html  The GreenBiz conference is hosted by GreenBiz Group and S&P Global Sustainable1 is a sponsor.   This piece was published by S&P Global Sustainable1, a part of S&P Global.     Copyright ©2024 by S&P Global     DISCLAIMER     By accessing this Podcast, I acknowledge that S&P GLOBAL makes no warranty, guarantee, or representation as to the accuracy or sufficiency of the information featured in this Podcast. With extensive experience in regional HR and operations management roles, Michelle brings invaluable expertise to the table, ensuring the success and growth of the organizations she serves. Here are a few of the topics we'll discuss on this episode of People Analytics: The laid-back environment at Nascent has resulted in increased employee satisfaction and productivity. Nascent organizes fun and engaging activities to foster a sense of joy and camaraderie among employees. Acknowledge that it's impossible to make everyone happy - focus on managing yourself and understanding that it's not always about you. Prioritize work-life balance by emphasizing the importance of time off and promoting self-care. Offer flexible work options that cater to both desk-bound and remote workers, fostering a sense of inclusivity. How holistic approaches to HR can positively impact employee well-being and performance. Connect with Michelle on LinkedIn for more information and networking opportunities. Resources: NASCENT Technology, LLC StaffGeek  Connect with Michelle French:LinkedInConnect with our host, Lindsay Patton: LinkedIn  Email Quotables: 12:11 - “I think just from the jump really, you know, to have that great employee experience from that moment we originally reached out to them when we're recruiting all the way through. We're just like very open, honest, transparent, and just, you know, welcoming them with open arms and asking for feedback all the time. Hey, what did you like, what didn't you like, what would you like to see? Always open to what are other people and ideas that they have. So that, that's really how we do it. We just stay on and, and keep chatting and figure out what, what people want and like, and enjoy.” 01:33 - “I think what we've learned from the past two years of, you know, dealing with the pandemic that your, your personal life and your work life, they, they do intertwine and there's nothing that anybody can do about that. So I think really making, making everything comfortable for everybody and giving them that space is really what makes a employee happy.” 24:00 - “And I think that's something that a lot of people miss when talking about work from home and the pandemic's impact is that there are a lot of desk-less workers that need to be in person. Yeah. And so where, where are their perks.” 14:32 - “So, you know, there's this very common trend in the workplace of pretending that what's going on at home is not affecting you at work, but, you know, when you're dealing with grief or chronic illness or, you know, having to manage kids, that's something that many, many people have to do. So that, that creeps in.” 21:17 - Michelle: “And that's why one-on-ones are very important here at our company. And we are very, very religious to those, our managers have them every other week for 30 minutes with the employee. And they're actually just a wonderful place for, you know, the coaching to go on that interpersonal communication, Hey, what's going on at home? How are things going? Or what's going on in your life? You know, is there, you know, whatever it is. And just really making that, that relationship, that trust factor.”.. Lindsay: “Yeah. Yeah. And I feel like, you know, the word accountability, it can be a harsh word, it can be an intimidating word because it's not associated with coaching as much as it is associated with getting yelled at, for example.”

In her book Power Attractor, author Gabrielle Bernstein says: “Find what inspires you most and commit to doing more of it! When we bring energy to what inspires us, we connect to our Super Attractor power and the manifesting begins.” What she’s saying is that when we do what lights us up, what we love, we draw to us all manner of things that we dream of, in our business and in our life. Our tag-line at HerBusiness is: Do What You Love, Every Day. So, I feel very aligned to any message that is about doing work that really lights us up, that keeps us alive and awake on every level - mentally and emotionally and spiritually. I know that my work leading HerBusiness is totally inspired. My goal is to have Inspiration - the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative - be present in my work every single day. So, my question to you is… What lights you up? In this episode of the HerBusiness podcast I share: Three things you can do TODAY to bring more inspiration into your life and your business What women business owners are doing to feel more connected and inspired What to do every single day to keep bright ideas flowing your way How appreciating where you are now can bring you closer to your goals The power of spending time alone, and how to build that space into your day   Inspiration Tips from the HerBusiness Network members When we asked members how they bring more inspiration into their lives and here’s what they said... “My morning walks and writing. On the inspiration side of things, quality people, a good (I love biographies) on-going education, podcasts etc. and removing negative people from my life.”— Tess Brook, Tess Brook Mediator “Sitting in a quiet place preferably surrounded by nature with its beauty and sounds. Ironically though a lot of my creative ideas happen at around 3 am, so l need to keep pen & paper next to the bed.”— Jenny Knox “For me, it’s being visionary, believing is seeing. Daily affirmations. Behaving like I’m already there. Practising success. Surrounding myself with people who are already successful. I found a mentor who is so out of my league and asked them to mentor me... they said yes. Working out a minimum 4x per week. The last is becoming fearless (1 of my 3 2020 words) to become limitless. Each January for the past 19 years I set a minimum of 1 big goal which is hard to achieve and a few small goals to support it. Every year of achieved it personally or professionally.”— Karina Prefontaine, Plum Petal "I love a good 'CLEAR OUT' at the end of every year. Cleaning out all papers, old clothes, kids toys, old books - basically anything that doesn't serve me or my family. A lot may go to donations and helps others, otherwise, the rest goes to the tip! For me, it keeps that cycle of giving going as well cleansing. Getting rid of old energy and bringing in the new."— Leticia Alvarez, InContext Marketing & Communications “For business, I need to find time to step away - travel - go somewhere else (even the beach for a few hours), but I need to remove myself from the environment to get new ideas, inspiration and allow my 'left brain' to quieten down and my right brain some space to do its thing. Ideally, this works better if I can get away for at least a few days, but on the micro-level just taking a walk through a bush trail or along the beach is also good. I also listen to mindset podcasts while walking to open up some new ways of thinking.” — Kristy-Lee Heighway Billett, The Footprint Group “Alone time, exercise, books, podcasts.”— Charlie Trevena, Charlie Trevena Tourism Marketing “Crochet! My morning square is my meditative time and some amazing ideas come to me some days while making my square.”— Seona Roberts, Honouring ME Crochet “For me as a full-on right-brainer (creative) inspiration comes from everywhere... looking at people, Behance, grocery shopping (looking at the packaging), art galleries, magazines, movie set, fabrics, fashion design etc, everything that is tactile. I get inspiration absolutely everywhere and I store things that I feel interesting, in my brain to use later. I think I’m very conditioned in that way as a creative director because inspiration is the source of every idea you bring to the table. I can spend hooouurrs in a bottle shop looking at all the beautiful labels and packaging... this while I don’t drink a drop of alcohol lol. This image, for example, gives me so much inspiration... the colour, texture, composition, contrast, etc."— Greet Recoules, Greet Your Brand “Being fully present to whatever I'm doing allows my creativity to flow and lights me up.”— Anne Aleckson, Channel and Transformational Speaker “I believe in like attracting like and that surrounding yourself with the energy you want to work with will illuminate your own creativity. Sometimes I, crank up the stereo to Gyuto Monks chanting, it just works! or go to an art gallery, sit with a notepad and take a deep breath and just write, anything. All of it sparks my inspiration.”— Kim Sowter, Intuition Coach “For me, it’s reflection, connection and routine. (Maybe these could be my better 3 words for 2020.) Morning rituals of meditation, yoga and healthy breakfast, chunking time for priority tasks, theming the week and setting aside a weekend each month for a solitary retreat all work wonders for me.”— Sharn Rocco, Mindful Works “I love my morning practice - meditation - journaling - yoga. That keeps me grounded and inspires clarity. My greatest source of inspiration occurs during learning via podcasts, audiobooks, webinars or reading book books.”— Tracey Bode, Zyteq “I engage the team with funny gifs and morning messages - and we all chat - which makes us feel connected and ready to go.”— Amanda Cullen, Michelle French and Associates Also mentioned in this episode: Super Attractor by Gabby Bernstein 2020 Business Growth Summit for Women Entrepreneurs HerBusiness Network Thanks to this week’s featured listener for this review on Apple Podcasts Subscribe to the HerBusiness Podcast for more great interviews with inspiring entrepreneurs.
