Hitler has a gift for oratory and party membership is growing: every week he draws a larger crowd. The party formally changes its name to the National Socialist German Workers Party – soon everyone will be calling it Na-Zi for short. But in his speeches, Hitler still reserves his vilest attacks for the ‘November Traitors', namely any politician who signed the Versailles Treaty and plunged Germany into third-class status. But all this campaigning costs: will Helene Bechstein, whose husband inherited the piano company, be able to help? Starring Nancy Carroll as Helene Bechstein, Tom Mothersdale as Adolf Hitler and featuring Edward Bennett as Gottfried Feder, the Nazi Party's first economist, and Joseph Alessi as Ernst Röhm, Commander of the SA. Cast: Helene Bechstein - NANCY CARROLL Adolf Hitler - TOM MOTHERSDALE Ernst Röhm - JOSEPH ALESSI Karl Harrer - OSCAR BATTERHAM Gottfried Feder - EDWARD BENNETT Rudolf Hess - GEORGE KEMP Anton Drexler - JACK LASKEY Other parts were played by: WILLIAM CHUBB, NICHOLAS FARRELL, SCOTT KARIM, SORCHA KENNEDY, MICHAEL MALONEY, FORBES MASSON, LYNNE MILLER and ANDREW WOODALL The Narrator is JULIET STEVENSON Sound designer – ADAM WOODHAMS Studio Manager – MARK SMITH Casting Director – GINNY SCHILLER Original Score – METAPHOR MUSIC Writer and Director – JONATHAN MYERSON Producer – NICHOLAS NEWTON A Promenade Production for BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds

EPISODE 61: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Am I really seeing this WaPo headline? "ANTISEMITES RALLY AROUND KANYE WEST" (3:20) As his agents, documentarians, and others drop him, Adidas does nothing while Adidas clients like The National Hockey League begin to feel the heat (3:35) and LAPD ties the 405 Freeway sign to antisemitic leaflets in Westwood (4:36) And something worse in Colorado: a Republican member of the State Board of Education has gotten the word "Nazis" replaced by "National Socialist German Workers Party" and demanded America acknowledge "this party was and is a socialist party." (7:05) The next stage has begun: assume a MAGA will come up to you shortly and say "Hitler was a Democrat. The holocaust is your fault. Antisemitism is your fault. Kanye West is your fault." Let's walk through his history: appointed as Chancellor by Conservatives, arrested Communists, sent Union Leaders to concentration camps, dissolved the Social Democratic Party, had Goebbels say "National Socialism opposes liberalism...liberalism broke under the blows." (14:00) On a much much much lighter note: you'll never believe who's advertising for a Concept-to-Consumer Manager? Yep: Adidas and Kanye. B-Block (17:09) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Jerry in Houston (18:08) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: DeSantis freezes when Crist asks him ONE debate question; Senate/Governor polling improves for Dems; Proud Boys embarrass Pen State; Coerce or Caress Walt Nauta and Kash Patel as Document investigators press hard for testimony (22:02) IN SPORTS: Yankees embarrassed themselves but Yankee fans did themselves proud saying helloooooo to Ted Cruz; my fellow giant-head Bruce Bochy gets a new gig; and you'll never believe who predicted, NINE YEARS AGO, that the next Phillies World Series appearance would be in 2022! (25:16) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Soccer's World Cup vies with Right Wing Troll Jacob Wohl and Justice Sam Alito - who gets pounded from beyond the grave by Ted Kennedy - for the honors. C-Block (30:04) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: I paid $2000 plus a game ticket for it, but I promised never to run exclusive video of a near-brawl between Yankees' ace Roger Clemens and a Yankees fan in the middle of the 1999 World Series. What happens when you have facts, but not truth? You side with truth - and your bosses start looking for a reason to fire you. It's quite a saga.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Many went as far as to compare him to Adolf Hitler, one of the evilest tyrants in the history of the world. The Washington Post published an article on July 16, 2018, headlined “It's not wrong to compare Trump's America to the Holocaust. Here's why.” It argued that while Trump was not pursuing a mass genocide, the Trump administration could be compared to Nazi Germany because they both used “dehumanizing language,” and that “child detention centers” were comparable to “concentration camps.” (Click Here for Full Article)

Most Americans are indifferent about the nation's involvement in World War One (under half say the U.S. had a responsibility to fight in the war; one-in-five say it didn't). Many figure it entered the conflict too late to claim much credit, or intervention was discreditable. Some say the U.S. had no compelling national interest to enter the Great War; worse, U.S. intervention allowed Britain and France to force on Germany an unjust, punitive peace that made the rise of Adolf Hitler’s National Socialist German Workers Party inevitable. But others argue that America's involvement saved Europe from a militaristic dictatorship that would have resulted in a worse 20th century. We look at all these aspects of America's involvement in the war in this episode.

Most Americans are unclear about their country’s contribution to victory in World War I. They figure we entered the conflict too late to claim much credit, or maybe they think our intervention was discreditable. Some say we had no compelling national interest to enter the Great War; worse, our intervention allowed Britain and France to force on Germany an unjust, punitive peace that made the rise of Adolf Hitler’s National Socialist German Workers Party inevitable. Had we stayed out of the war, the argument goes, the Europeans would have been compelled to make a reasonable, negotiated peace, and postwar animosity would have been lessened. In this episode, we explore whether American involvement in World War One led to needless slaughter or served the purpose of creating a better future for Europe and the United States than would have been the case if Germany's Second Reich had dominated the continent.

Soviets and Nazis sign a non-aggression pact that leads to World War II. World War I came to a close with Germany signing the Treaty of Versailles in June 1919. Many a historian has written about the severity of the treaty and the negative impact it had on Germany’s ability to grow into a strong country. Germany was to repay the Allies for their costs of the war, lose significant parts of its territory, and all branches of the military were to be severely limited in personnel and armaments. In addition to the harsh realities of the Depression, Adolf Hitler exploited the German people’s outrage and feelings of humiliation from the treaty. He took his band of thugs from political obscurity to complete power in 1933 through the National Socialist German Workers’ Party – the Nazis. While Hitler was carrying out his plans for creating the perfect aryan nation internally, he was flouting Versailles left and right. He brought back conscription while increasing the size and might of his military. He reoccupied the demilitarized zone in 1936 and annexed Austria and Czechoslovakia in 1938 and 1939 respectively. World leaders were at a loss to stop Hitler and he looked for ways to ensure certain countries would not interfere with his desire for world domination. On August 23, 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union pledged not to attack each other or help countries with plans to attack for ten years. Signed in Moscow by the two countries’ foreign affairs ministers, this infamous non-aggression pact also included an economic treaty and plans to carve up Poland between them. A week later, Germany took advantage of the pact by invading Poland. The rest is history: The invasion gave rise to World War II. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Pledge of Allegiance was the origin of the fascist gesture used under the Third Reich. The pledge caused nazi behavior in the USA too. Francis Bellamy was the author of the pledge and the origin of the Hitler salute that was used in the early pledge's ritualized daily mechanical indoctrination. The early pledge began with a military salute that was then extended outward to point at the flag. In practice the second gesture was performed palm-down. It was not an ancient Roman salute (a debunked myth). Francis and his cousin (Edward Bellamy) were both national socialists in the USA and influenced the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) and the National Socialist German Workers Party, its dogma, rituals and symbols (including the use of the swastika as crossed "S" letters for "socialism"). Although swastikas are ancient symbols that pre-date German National Socialism (Nazism) by centuries, the Nazis did not call their symbol a "swastika" and they did not call themselves "Nazis" (nor "fascists"). They called themselves National Socialists and they called their symbol a Hakenkreuz (hooked cross, a type of cross) and they altered their symbol by turning it 45 degrees from the horizontal and pointing it in the S-direction to symbolize S-letters for their "socialism." They had similar stylized alphabetical symbolism for the "SS" division, the "SA," the "NSV," and even VW (the letters V and W combined for "volkswagen"). (See the discoveries of the historian Dr. Rex Curry). The symbol had previously been used on the money of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), and by the Theosophical Society and by the American national socialist Edward Bellamy, cousin of Francis Bellamy (author of the anti libertarian pledge, the origin of the so-called "German greeting" and robotic chanting). In that sense, many people defame the ancient "swastika" by using that wrong term for the German symbol (which was actually called the "Hakenkreuz") and by failing to distinguish it by its alteration, its orientation and its alphabetical symbolism for S-letters. The widespread misunderstanding causes a lot of unnecessary controversies and provokes people to demand laws to ban the swastika symbol. The above are discoveries in the work of Dr. Curry and many other people failed to make these discoveries including: Martin Winkler, N.S. Gill, Irene Hahn, Marc Leepson, Michael Medved, Richard Ellis, Todd Gitlin, James Lileks, Tilman Allert and Steven Heller.
