About Brett Ivy My name is Brett, I'm the Chaos Coordinator aka the millennial mom trying my best to get this internet stuff done. I may also be the reason we, are here on our journey to use what nature has provided to thrive while we learn to preserve the past to create a more sustainable & sovereign future for our family. Bobby, my husband, and I are first generation homesteaders. We live here at Piney Oaks Homestead with our son, Lucas, and Bobby's mother. Our hope is to work our butts off so together with our family, including my parents (who still reside in south Florida) will one day reap the literal fruits of our labor on a community sustainable, multigenerational homestead. In 2018 we set a goal to leave behind our .23-acre suburban South Florida ‘ tropical paradise' HOA governed homestead with over 8 varieties of fruit trees for more simple living in a not so tropical place. We were on track to go look at a completely off grid homestead 8k feet up in the mountains in April 2020 when our plans were quickly shut down a month before. Determined to leave the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale we got in the truck and started driving north. We started searching for our forever homestead in our home state. Fast-forward 5 months, 2 offers, and an ungodly number of showings we finally landed on Florida's Nature Coast in an old ag town about an hour from Gainesville. The past few years have been a whirlwind of learning… as a Florida native I have to say I'm still in shock that we have a frost date in Florida. Pastor Martin illuminates his inspiration behind running for the upcoming Congressional seat in District 11 Florida as well as his predictions for the 2024 election. This conversation highlights current issues surrounding the LGBTQ movement, January 6th event, election integrity, experimental jab, pro life values, and bringing moral codes (like the 10 Commandments) into schools. New Jersey native, Pastor Jack Martin, spent 22 years as a Senior Pastor at Praise Assembly of God in Hudson, Florida. During that time he founded the Chaplaincy for both Spring Hill Fire Rescue and Hernando County Fire Rescue, serving for 17 years alongside pastoring at the church. This led him to become part of the State of Florida ESF-8 Emergency Response mental health team. During the same period, Jack served as chaplain for both the Nature Coast 912 group, the FDNY 343 retired firefighters group, and the Hernando County Community Patriots, where he still continues in that capacity. He also served for several years on the board of Directors for Faith Tampa Bay. It's not uncommon to see dolphin hunting their own prey as you fish alongside them.  This beautiful river is what drew this week's podcast guest, Jacinda Rose to become a kayak fishing guide on the Crystal River in Ozello, FL. I sit down with her to dine on our freshly caught Crystal River redfish as she tells us her inspiring story (and recounts a couple of harrowing moments). A half dozen times per year, the 50 Campfires team heads out on the road to explore the people, places and locations that make our country unique. In late March 2018, the team headed to Florida to explore the Nature Coast on the Northwestern side of the state.
