This week we have no choice but to Stan... field. This week's episode of I Know That Face is all about supporting star Lakeith Stanfield. Beginning with Short Term 12 in 2012 Stanfield made a name for himself as a versatile supporting player over the coming decade. 2017 was a banner year for Stanfield with incredible supporting turns in Jordan Peele's masterpiece Get Out, Netflix's Death Note and Donald Glover's anthology Twin Peaks-esque show Atlanta. His first leading role came in Boots Riley's 2018 critically acclaimed satire Sorry to Bother You. More recently he has supported in Knives Out and Uncut Gems. We wrap up by spending a few minutes discussing Netflix's Death Note movie.

It’s been almost six months since we last released an episode of this podcast, but that doesn’t mean we stopped recording it! On the contrary, we’ve got a dozen episode backlog that I need to work through. It might be a while yet before some of those episodes come out, but we’re getting back on track by releasing the most recent episodes we recorded and working backwards. Which means starting with the episode we recorded last week. On this episode VLordGTZ and I are joined by Colton to follow-up on our Death Note discussion on Manga Mavericks by talking about Netflix’s recently released live-action film adaptation. We discuss why the movie fails to work as an adaptation and as a standalone story, what didn’t work about the characters, and just how stupid the whole mess was. At the end we answer some questions about the manga itself, including our favorite moments and the dumbest things Light and L ever did. Manga Mavericks @ Movies is back and better than ever! Carrie joins Jay to discuss the recent Netflix exclusive film, #DeathNote. The story follows Light Turner (Nat Wolff), a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that has the power to kill whoever has their name written within. He soon partners with the true owner of the notebook, a shinigami named #Ryuk (Willem Dafoe), and begins to enact justice on the world under the guise of "Kira." Light must contend with the brilliant detective known only as L (Lakeith Stanfield), who seeks to expose Light as Kira. Based on the 2003 manga of the same name, Netflix's Death Note provides a wildly different look at the base story underneath. But is it a good enough film to watch? Budget: $40 Million
