New Orleans has a long tradition of being the gateway between US Bourbon and the rest of the world. And Chicken Cock, being one of the oldest Whiskey brands in the US, has had a long association with the city. Even before he started Chicken Cock Whiskey, original founder James A. Miller was shipping barrels of his coveted whiskey down to the ‘Big Easy' in the 1830s. So it's no surprise that Chicken Cock has been shipping a very special expression down south for this year's New Orleans Bourbon Festival. A limited-edition, created in collaboration with the festival, the brand's Single Barrel Double Oak Kentucky Whiskey has been aged for nine years—the final two in new American White Oak with a level four char. We caught up with Master Distiller Gregg Snyder to discuss the expression and what it's like to create a liquid designed to live up to the legends of the city, the festival, and the brand.
Crack open a bottle and settle in as Gregg Snyder, Master Distiller of Chicken Cock Whiskey, graces our podcast with his record-setting appearance—and we're raising a glass to that! Tune in as Greg unravels tales from his whiskey-promoting journey, with events stretching across many states, and insights into the brand's impressive climb since 2019. Amidst the fanfare, including a special nod to Kenny Fuller's ear-catching theme song and Roxy's rare drop-in, we marvel at the expansion of Chicken Cock's reach, now warming the shelves in 49 states, and the continuous pursuit to captivate both new markets and avid whiskey aficionados. This episode pours out a rich blend of topics, from the fruitful partnership with Bardstown Bourbon Company to the skillful dance of barrel production and sustainable forestry. Get a whiff of the intricate details as Greg shares the secrets behind their collaborative distillation program and how sourcing high-quality whiskey bridges the time until their own aged marvels are bottle-ready. We also pop the cork on the new Chicken Cock small batch Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, urging you to savor the concentrated flavors that distinguish it from its counterparts. As we wrap up, don't miss the chatter about the upcoming New Orleans Bourbon Festival and the splash Chicken Cock's wheated bourbon is set to make. Greg's enthusiasm is palpable as we discuss the festival-exclusive nine-year-old double oak bourbon and its Mardi Gras-inspired bottle. Whiskey festivals are popping up all over the place. An even in New Orleans sticks out to me because the city holds a special place in my heart. I've had the opportunity to visit the city half a dozen times and there isn't another one quite like it in the United States. Just the way it moves. The way it feels. So I wanted to explore a little deeper into what is happening with this Bourbon festival in a city with a street named after the drink(yeah I know it's not exactly named after the drink). Tracy ( @nolaboubon ) was kind enough to spend 45 minutes running me through the ins and outs of the New Orleans Bourbon Festival ( @nobourbonfest ). He even drops in a discount code for tickets that is good until December 15th. Keep an eye on their social media and make sure you snag up a ticket while you can.https://www.neworleansbourbonfestival.com/
