Cheers,Scott and JakeBourbon Lens Blue Note Bourbon™, the award-winning whiskey portfolio which features big notes and a smooth structure, is making waves in the spirits industry. Founded in 2014, B.R. Distilling Company holds the oldest distillery license in the city of Memphis, Tennessee. Blue Note, launched in 2018, is artfully crafted to honor the rich blues music that is synonymous with Memphis. The brand's whiskey portfolio is distilled in partnership with Bardstown Bourbon Company (parent company of Green River Distilling Company) and then aged just north of downtown where the Mississippi and Wolf Rivers collide. The long summers filled with infamous Memphis heat and cooler evenings forces the whiskey deep into the oak, creating an unmistakably rich flavor that's bold yet smooth. “The location of our warehouses with high humidity and higher average temperatures than Kentucky make it the perfect place to age our whiskey,” said Logan Welk, President and Chief Operating Officer, B.R. Distilling Company. “Our award-winning flagship Blue Note expressions prove that point, with both Juke Joint and Crossroads winning Double Gold at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition two years running and Blue Note Uncut being named #7 on Whisky Advocate's list of top whiskeys in 2022.” The Blue Note Bourbon portfolio includes: Blue Note Juke Joint ($34.99) Blue Note's flagship Straight Bourbon Whiskey is bottled at 93-proof, unfiltered Mash Bill: 70% corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley Awards: 2024 Platinum Medal, San Francisco World Spirits Competition; 2022, 2023 and 2024 Double Gold Medals, Wine Enthusiast (93 pts) Blue Note Crossroads ($44.99) Finished with several types of toasted French oak staves and bottled at 100-proof, unfiltered Mash Bills: 70% corn, 21% rye, 9% malted barley and 78% corn, 13% rye, 9% malted barley Awards: 2024 Platinum Medal, San Francisco World Spirits Competition; 2022, 2023 and 2024 Double Gold Medals Blue Note Uncut ($49.99) Aged for a minimum of four years and bottled at variable proofs Mash Bill: 70% corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley Awards: Whisky Advocate's #7 top whiskeys of 2022 (92 pts) Blue Note Straight Rye Whiskey ($34.99) The most recent release is bottled at 93-proof, unfiltered Mash Bill: 95% rye and 5% malted barley Awards: 2024 ASCOT Awards Double Platinum, Whisky Advocate (90 pts) The brand has also introduced several highly awarded limited-release offerings, which include Premium Small Batch, Single Barrel Reserve, 17-year, and Special Reserve. Blue Note's packaging is unique and quintessentially Memphis. Metallic blue music notes accent the front label, which features a guitar-like illustration, further reinforcing the product's connection to the Bluff City's musical roots. Production Facility & Tasting Room The 110,000 square foot production facilities, located on Royal Avenue just North of downtown Memphis, are open from Monday through Friday from 10am – 4:00pm and includes a unique and intimate tasting room. Guided tours are available on Thursdays and Fridays for $10 plus tax & fees. Guests can add a Tasting Flight Experience for an additional $5. For more information and to book a guided, behind-the-scenes tour, visit www.bluenotebourbon.com. About B.R. Distilling Company Founded in 2014 in Memphis, TN, B.R. It's been quite a while since our old pal Swan has joined us for an episode of This is my Bourbon Podcast, and it's been just about as long since this episode was recorded! That's right, folks, we've got an episode from the vaults that was recorded all the way back in 2020 in anticipation of my daughter being born, and we haven't had a chance to release it until now! We review the Benchmark Bonded Bourbon and compare it to a few other Bottled in Bond bourbons on the market that still are DEFINITELY still out there, and it's a great chance to relive the olden days of TIMBP. Orphan Barrel whiskeys have been around since 2014. As the story goes, each bottle in this series represents stocks of whiskey that were hidden away and nearly forgotten in the back of rickhouses and distilleries. The newest release in the Orphan Barrel series is Indigo's Hour Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This is a blend of straights from Kentucky and Indiana that is 18 years old and has a mashbill of 68% corn, 28% rye, and 4% malted barley. If you've never had any Orphan Barrel offerings, you'll find this week's discussion rather intriguing. Tasting Notes: After years of successfully growing the Old Forester brand, Master Blender Jackie Zykan struck out on her own with the Neeley Family Distillery in Stanford, Kentucky. Their first product, called Hidden Barn, honors the tradition of illicit stills dotting the Kentucky countryside, painted black as to avoid detection by the telltale fungus that grows black on all the buildings where distilling is taking place. Their Series 1 product is a small batch blend of 4 and 5 year old Kentucky Bourbons with a 70% corn, 20% rye, and 10% malted barley mashbill bottled at 110.1 proof. Grain and sweet oak on the nose with dark fruit. On the palate, honey and grain with a very rich, fruit and spice forward finish.
This week on The Whiskey Trip Podcast, Big Chief takes listeners on a ride to Austin, Texas and chats with Jason Harry, Brand Experience Manager, and Christian Wilhoft, Single Barrel Program Manager, from Still Austin Whiskey Co. They finish the first half with Still Austin's flagship, their Straight Bourbon Whiskey. In the second half they start with Still Austin Cask Strength Rye which is made with 100% Brasetto Rye which brings back memories of horehound rock candies for Big Chief. This ride on The Whiskey Trip showcases unique Texas grown grains that is a requirement for certified Texas Whiskey. Cheers!

Tasting Notes: When the Zoeller Family finally sold their shares in Jefferson's Bourbon to Pernod Ricard last year, it was inevitable that we would see a branding and design refresh. In the case of VSB, or Very Small Batch as it had been called, the changes have been subtle, and I think for the most part better. They've dropped the "Very Small Batch" and instead have emphasized "Straight Bourbon Whiskey" retaining the "blend of" right above it. There's still no indication of age, other than without an age statement, we KNOW it's at least 4 years old. And we still don't know the distillery of origin, because that's never been published. But with it being on Red Hot Deal this period for $26, I thought we'd take another look at this relatively LOW priced premium whiskey. Light fruit, herbs, mint, and oak on the nose with a chocolate cherry distinctiveness. On the palate, more soft oak with honey and some nuts to go with the fruit.

We are cracking something this week from Iowa called Cedar Ridge Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This is from Iowa's first and largest whiskey producing distillery and their "everyday" offering. We are also lighting up the Joya Cabinetta from Joya de Nicaragua for the first time on the show. This is an interestingly constructed cigar as the cigar has a maduro shade wrapper above the band and a Connecticut shade wrapper below the wrapper. Let's find out what this is all about! Ask questions on the feed during the show or after if you want to be part of the conversation! Pour one more...light up another...we'll figure it out together. When you think of Florida - what comes to mind? Surely it's sunny beaches and top quality oranges. Probably the last thing that anyone associates Florida with is bourbon. However, a distillery located in the heart of America's oldest city is seeking to change that. St. Augustine Distillery, which was established in 2013, produces numerous spirits and one of its most popular products is Florida Straight Bourbon. This week, we taste and review this bottle and talk about numerous things such as vacation bourbon hunting, shelf clogging, and if Florida wheat is the same as other kinds of wheat. While we probably won't have an answer to that, we do promise that you will be entertained. Pass, try, or buy…you'll have to listen to find out. Cheers to the weekend. -------------------------- Socials IG: https://www.instagram.com/themashupky FB: https://www.facebook.com/themashupky TW: https://twitter.com/themashupky Music: All the Fixings by Zachariah Hickman Thank you so much for listening!

Old Louisville Whiskey Co. is a family owned business that strives to deliver premium whiskies to ALL. The husband and wife duo, Amine and Beth Karaoud, are self-proclaimed “whiskey aficionados'' and they have spent the last few years building a whiskey brand that honors both the rich history of the Old Louisville neighborhood as well as the long-standing tradition of Kentucky bourbon making. Old Louisville offers an array of unique whiskies. The one that we review this week is a single barrel pick from a very unusual MGP mashbill (51% corn / 49% malt). This week, Anthony is joined by a special guest host who was mentioned many episodes ago for chugging bourbon in a liquor store. We hope that you will listen along as we go through our standard shout outs, tasting notes, and other lively topics. You'll get to hear a first hand account of how this particular barrel of whiskey was selected from Old Louisville and what we think about it. Spoiler alert: You're gonna want to pay very close attention to what Old Louisville is doing in the future. K.LUKE Whiskey Company owner and president Jonathan Maisano made his first single barrel trip to Kentucky in the summer of 2014. Since then, he has tasted over 1400 barrels and selected more than 350 to be deemed as Maisano Hand Selects in his retail store Maisano's Fine Wine and Spirits. Jonathan is also a first level certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. He uses this extensive sensory training when evaluating aroma and flavor profiles in whiskey barrels as there are many similar traits in both wine and whiskey when searching for nuances. K.LUKE is all about Jonathan's ability to blend exceptional single barrels to create balanced and multilayered small batch offerings. He blends exceptional single barrels, then these blends are put together, rated and blind tasted against each other, then against other outstanding whiskey offerings until these blends consistently win K.LUKE's blind tastings. Jonathan was nice enough to send us some of this bourbon to try! Cheers!
