You think mermaids just sit on rocks all day looking glamorous? Please. This ocean doesn't run itself.

But here's the thing: thirty-one days is the challenge, and I showed up with twenty-nine shiny splashes of podcast sass. And in mermaid math, that still counts as a win.

Because clearly the best way to honor the movie that made half the world afraid to swim is to make the shark literally jump out of the screen at you.

And flossing? Seaweed works fine, but we prefer jelly strands — extra slippery, biodegradable, and if you're lucky, bioluminescent. Nothing says “fresh breath” like a glow-in-the-dark smile.

I'll be honest, my brave little barnacles: I'm angry. I'm sad. And I'm confused. Because from where I swim, it looks like weapons are valued more than children. And that thought makes my saltwater boil.

Way back in the Miocene Epoch, a small group of primates took one look at the water and said: “Yes, let's stay.” Thus began the aquatic line.

Ah, jellyfish. The eternal mystery blobs of the sea. Today we wrestle with one of life's big undersea questions: what exactly are they?

Aunt Coral had strings of pearls and her favorite coral comb. Old Finnback? A treasure chest full of maps he never used, because that man never admitted he was lost.

The Starbucks mermaid? Nice girl, terrible swimmer. She's been treading water in the same pose since 1971.

Yesterday's bustling Octopus's Garden becomes tomorrow's empty patch of sand.. They call it “relocation.” I call it “ghosting, but with eight arms.”

This episode will make you say WTF? We meet two teenage girls from small town Ontario who plot to kill their mom. "Sandra" and "Beth" spend a few months workshopping all the ways to get away with killing their mother before eventually succeeding. They then confess to all of their friends and acquaintances for over a year about this murder before one of their friends finally goes to the police. One year after the death of their mom, the girls are finally arrested for killing her and tried as children under the YCJA. This is a heartbreaking episode about the circumstances that led to these young girls feeling the need to kill their mom and their friends' assistance and negligence. On the morning of January 13, 2010, two twin girls nicknamed Tas and Jas stood at the kitchen counter in their home in Conyers, Georgia, writing notes back and forth to each other in a little notebook, and giggling. The girls were late for school, and they were writing instead of talking because they didn't want to wake their mom up and get yelled at for missing the bus. They finished their notes and closed the notebook, then started getting ready to leave. When they would return home that afternoon, they would find their quiet home in this gated community in Georgia soaked with blood, and an unspeakable horror waiting for them in the master bathroom. Brian and Louise Hogan, missionaries and church planters in Mongolia, responded to God's call with obedience. They arrived in the city of Erdenet in the early 1990s; there were no churches in the city. After the conversion of 14 teenage girls, they witnessed the birth and growth of a church community. However, as Scripture reminds us, forward motion in God's kingdom often awakens spiritual resistance. As Brian noted, "Throughout history, whenever the Kingdom has advanced, someone has had to pay a terrible price." For the Hogans, that terrible price was the sudden death of their newborn son, who passed away on Christmas Eve due to sudden infant death syndrome. In the depths of grief and isolation, Brian and Louise felt God's closeness. They were aware that Christians around the world were praying for them. Louise found strength through a question inspired by Elisabeth Elliot: “Was I called? Was I chosen? And did I obey?” She says it should not matter what God does with our obedience; we are simply called to obey. Despite their loss, the Hogans chose to remain in Mongolia, grieving alongside their Mongolian Christian family. Their suffering became a powerful testimony of hope and resurrection in a culture unfamiliar with such concepts.
