Welcome to Day 1967 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Choose Life – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1967 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Jewish Teaching, and it is: Always Choose Life Choose Life There is much about whose life is precious or sacred in the public narrative. The fact is that God created all life, so all life is precious. If we have the option of promoting life or activities that minimize the value of life, then we must always choose life. This is true of all needless taking of life. This is true of the animal kingdom, where we should only take life when it is necessary for feeding or protecting humankind. Since humans are created to be imagers of God, there are few exceptions to always choosing life. This principle includes the life of the unborn, the aged, and the lives of every ethnic group in the world. Unless it is in self-defense and there is no other alternative, we should do all we can to preserve life. Life is precious because we are created as imagers of God. The basic principle is always to choose life because all lives matter. It is that simple. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy%2030%3A19&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 30:19) “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! Welcome to Day 1809 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Choose To Be Happy – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1809 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Abraham Lincoln, and it is: A person is generally about as happy as he's willing to be. Choose To Be Happy As with nearly all situations in life, happiness in almost every case is a choice that we must make, and we need to make it each day. We are faced with choices continuously from what we will wear, what we will eat, and of course, how we will act or react during the day. All of us are faced with trials and difficulties and we can choose to be happy despite those times, or we can choose to be miserable. Choosing to be miserable won't change the difficult times; it may worsen them. But choosing instead to be happy in the face of problems will allow you to determine solutions, so you do not remain in those difficult times. Rarely, if ever, does a sour disposition help a situation; it only makes it worse. As imagers of God, and our Lord Jesus Christ, we should certainly remain joyful in every case, and that joy and peace will also allow us to be happy. It is our choice, what will we choose for today, and every day. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+30%3A19-21&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 30:19-20) “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Welcome to Day 1796 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Without Courage – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1796 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Benjamin Franklin, and it is: A person without courage is like a knife without an edge. Without Courage Having tools that are broken or not as functional as possible is highly frustrating. We burn a lot of firewood during the wintertime to help heat ‘The Big House,' which requires a significant amount of cutting and splitting the wood to have an adequate supply. I have a large 24” Husqvarna chain saw, and while it does a great job when the chain is new and sharp. It does not take long when cutting hard oak trees for the chain to dull. Cutting with a dull chain saw reminds me of today's quote. It is challenging to make any progress with a dull chain. It is like living without the courage to handle the challenging times of life. When the chain dulls much at all, it is time to stop and invest the time needed to resharpen the chain. So it is with courage. If you lack courage in any area of life, you will become ineffective and unable to make progress. Just as the chain needs to be sharpened to make progress cutting the firewood, you will need to continuously sharpen yourself to gain the courage necessary to keep moving forward. Gaining that courage will not be easy and require shaving off the shell you are hiding behind to expose the courage you need. This process is like sharpening the chain where you remove what is worn to reveal a sharp edge to continue moving forward. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy%2031%3A6&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 31:6) So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid, and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from John C. Maxwell, and it is: A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. Show The Way Each of us is a leader in some area of life. The question is, how effective is your leadership? There are various leadership methods, and specific techniques have proven to be much more effective than others. An effective leader practices the three attributes which are mentioned in today's quote. First, a leader must know what the objectives and outcomes are for every specific project or tasks. Second, an effective leader will go along with their group or team, not just send them out on their own. Third, an effective leader will also show the way the team or group must go. Finally, a leader will also set an example for their team and be an example. Excellent and effective leadership requires all three aspects. How are your leadership skills? https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy%201%3A13&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 1:13) Choose some well-respected men from each tribe who are known for their wisdom and understanding, and I will appoint them as your leaders.' Welcome to Day 1692 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomBe Refreshed – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. We are on Day 1692 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Proverbs 11:25, and it is: The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed Be Refreshed This proverb may be considered an oxymoron. How can you prosper if you are giving money and resources away? One thing I can be sure of, though, this proverb is abundantly factual. I can say this, because I have experienced the results in my own life. Let me break it down in a manner that might help to understand the principle of being generous and refreshing others. Let's say that I am a farmer, and I desire to grow corn. I have 10 bushels of seed corn that I can use to plant in the spring or use the corn to feed to animals. If I use it as feed, I am out of corn when the 10 bushels are gone. If I am willing to plant the corn, tend the fields, wait for it to grow, ripen, and then harvest the crop, I will end up with a yield of approximately 1,000 bushels. All it takes is a lot of hard work, perseverance, and faith that God will give the increase. The refreshment does not come during the sweltering summer months when the farmer is tending the crop. But as the crop is harvested, there is much rejoicing. How refreshing to think about. So it is when we are generous and willing to refresh others, we will end up prospering and being refreshed beyond anything we can imagine. Once again, the law of planting and harvesting can be applied to our willingness to give to others. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy%2011%3A13%2D15&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 11:13-15) “If you carefully obey the commands I am giving you today, and if you love the Lord your God and serve him with all your heart and soul, then he will send the rains in their proper seasons—the early and late rains—so you can bring in your harvests of grain, new wine, and olive oil. He will give you lush pastureland for your livestock, and you yourselves will have all you want to eat. Welcome to Day 1627 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomTake The Shot – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our trek to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! Today is Day 1627 of our Trek, and it's time for another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Wayne Gretzky, and it is: 100% of the shots you don't take don't go in. Take The Shot Wayne Douglas Gretzky is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and former head coach. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League for four teams from 1979 to 1999. Every superlative has been used, many strung together, to describe the otherwordly talent of Wayne Gretzky, who commonly is regarded as the greatest hockey player ever. Based purely on statistics, there is no argument -- the man is without peer, nor will he have one in the foreseeable future. He owns many records from the ranks of peewee hockey to the NHL, sitting atop every meaningful offensive category, often miles ahead of the players ranked second. Why did I take the time to describe Wayne Gretzky as I did? Because he knew what it takes to succeed in hockey and life. Wayne knew firsthand that if he did not take a hockey shot attempting to score, it would be 100% certain that he would not score. I am sure there were hundreds of times where it was nearly impossible to make the score, but that never stopped Wayne from attempting the shot. That is why he is the indisputable champion of professional hockey. So it is with everything that we attempt in life. If we are afraid to try for fear we will not succeed, then it is 100% certain that we will not succeed. It is only when we take a risk, when we expose ourselves to criticism, when we are willing to try, even if there is a chance for failure, will we ever know the thrill of victory. We need to stop procrastinating. We need to break the cycle of getting ready to get ready. We need to boldly go, where no one has gone before. When we do our part to succeed based on our God-given talents and abilities, we can trust God to provide us with the wisdom needed to take the shots, even when not every attempt will result in success. You may never fully achieve the success you desire, but you will succeed by confidently moving forward as you continue trying. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deut.31.6&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 31:6) So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” As you ponder another bit of wisdom from Gramps, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along with us tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is https://wisdom-trek.com/day-1126/ (Day 1126) of our trek, and it is Worldview Wednesday. Creating a Biblical worldview is important to have a proper perspective on today's current events. To establish a Biblical worldview, you must also have a proper understanding of God and His Word. On our Worldview Wednesday episodes we are in a series in which we are covering another detailed review of a book from one of today's most prominent Hebrew Scholars Dr. Micheal S. Heiser. We are taking a deep dive and will share Dr. Heiser’s insights into the question which is also the title of his book “What Does God Want?” Rebellion #3 – Dividing of the Nations Last week we learned in Dr. Heiser's book that parts of https://wisdom-trek.com/day-1121/ (God's supernatural family) also chose to disobey His commands and did not stay in their limits of authority. They crossed over into the human family in a futile attempt to usurp God's position. Like the stories of Adam and Eve and Noah’s flood, you may have heard of the Tower of Babel. If not, that’s okay, because even most church-goers don’t realize what really happened there. The story of the Tower of Babel is found in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+11%3A1-9&version=NLT (Genesis 11:1-9). After the flood God wanted Noah’s descendants to multiply and spread out over the earth. Like Adam and Eve, they were to be God’s co-workers to maintain creation. Instead of doing that, they gathered at a place called Babel and built a tower to their own glory https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+11%3A1-4&version=NLT (Genesis 11:1-4). That’s the familiar version of the story, but its real significance is found in two unfamiliar verses in another biblical book. The first is in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+32%3A8-9&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 32:8-9), and it reads: When the Most High assigned lands to the nations, when he divided up the human race, he established the boundaries of the peoples according to the number in his heavenly court. “For the people of Israel belong to the Lord; Jacob is his special possession.” These two verses tell us that one of the judgments at the Tower of Babel was the division of humankind. Up until this point in the story, God was dealing with humanity as a collective whole. That changed at Babel. Human beings would be segregated by language and geography. Even worse, God divorced himself from humanity. Fed up with human defiance of his will, God assigned the nations of the earth to other members of his supernatural family—the sons of God, or His heavenly court. These sons of God were a different group of his heavenly court than those who transgressed before the flood. God couldn’t kick humanity out of his house again; He had done that already back in Eden. He had promised through a covenant with Noah not to destroy humanity after the flood (Genesis [9:11]), so there would be no repeat of that disaster. So what else could he do? God essentially said, “Enough! If you don’t want me to be your God, I’ll assign you to some of my heavenly assistants.” The fallout of this judgment took many forms. We aren't told how long it took, but the Bible tells us that the supernatural sons...
Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 1086 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. I am Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Jesus Is God, The Name – Wisdom Wednesday Wisdom – the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and create a living legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is https://wisdom-trek.com/day-1086/ (Day 1086) of our trek, and it is Wisdom Wednesday. Creating a Biblical worldview is important to have a proper perspective on today's current events. To establish a Biblical worldview, you must also have a proper understanding of God's word. Especially in our western cultures, we do not fully understand the Scriptures from the mindset and culture of the authors. In order to help us all have a better understanding of some of the more obscure passages in God's Word, we are investing Wisdom Wednesday reviewing a series of essays from one of today's most prominent Hebrew Scholars Dr. Micheal S. Heiser. He has compiled these essays into a book titled “I Dare You Not to Bore Me with the Bible.” In our English translations of the Bible, we miss a lot of the meaning of various names in the Bible. This is especially true of the nuances of names in the Old Testament and New Testament with God and Jesus. In today's essay, we will explore passages that cover… Jesus Is God, The Name It only takes a few words to produce dramatic theology. In the short letter we know as 3 John, the apostle is writing to a beloved friend, Gaius (v. 1). He commends Gaius for ministering to fellow believers who were strangers because “they are traveling for the Lord, and they accept nothing from people who are not believers” (v. 7). John doesn’t use the phrase “in Jesus’ name” or “the name of Jesus.” It’s simply, “traveling for the Lord.” Why this phrase? Is John trying to keep a secret? John isn't trying to be cryptic. He’s actually drawing on an Old Testament expression. When understood in that original context—and the context of his other writings—John’s wording amounts to a powerful statement on the deity of Jesus. · The Name in the Old Testament In https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deut+12%3A5&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 12:5) God instructed the people of Israel that when they got into the Promised Land, “Rather, you must seek the Lord your God at the place of worship he himself will choose from among all the tribes—the place where his name will be honored.” God wasn't talking about writing His name on a town or a building. He was referring to where the tabernacle, and ultimately the temple, was to be His station. But He wasn't talking about writing “Yahweh” on that either. Nothing of the sort is ever recorded in Scripture. Rather, God was talking about the place where He would choose to meet Israel personally—His very presence. The description “the name” actually refers to the presence of God. This presence was at times visibly evident through the so-called “glory cloud” (e.g., 1 Kings [8:10]-11). At other times the name came in human form. For instance, in Exodus [23:20]-23, God tells Moses that He is sending an angel to bring Israel to the Promised Land. God warned Moses that this angel would pardon no transgression since God and the “Angel of the Lord” appear to speak as one. We learn from Judges 2:1-5 that the angel did indeed lead them to the land. But how could God’s name be in an angel? The answer is that “the name” referred to the very presence of God, His essence. This is confirmed in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+4%3A37&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 4:37). Here,...
Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 1065 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Don’t Be Discouraged By Failure – Wisdom Unplugged Wisdom – the final frontier to true knowledge. This is https://wisdom-trek.com/day-1065/ (Day 1065) of our trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget. Today's quote is from John Keats, and it is, “Don’t be discouraged by failure. Failure, in a sense, is the highway to success because every discovery of what is false leads us to seek what is true. And every fresh experience points out an error which we shall, afterwards, carefully avoid.” Don't Be Discouraged By Failure No one likes or enjoys failure, and many become discouraged and quit at the first sign of failure. This should not be. Failure is no more than a detour on life's road to success. If you are driving down the highway on the road to a sought after destination, say to visit your kids or grandkids, and you find the road is closed, and there is a detour, would you give up and return home? No, you would travel the extra miles needed on the detour so that you would continue on your road towards your eventual destination. The highway to success is filled with the potholes of failure. When you see the potholes coming, you try to avoid them, but you will occasionally hit one dead on, and it most likely is not an enjoyable experience. If the road has many potholes, you become more cautious and learn to watch for them and avoid as many as possible. Every discovery of a pothole leads to you know what the solid highway looks like and what is to be avoided. In the same manner, every failure on your road to success will allow you to learn what to carefully avoid and give you the confidence to keep moving forward toward your destination. So don't let the potholes of failure on your highway to success discourage you. Learn from them, avoid them when possible, and enjoy your journey. Keep in mind, ultimately it is God who provides our success. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+8:18&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 8:18) – Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath. That's a wrap for today's Wisdom Unplugged quote. Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 1045 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Success From Failure – Wisdom Unplugged Wisdom – the final frontier to true knowledge. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget. Today's quote is from Dale Carnegie, and it is, “Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.” Success From Failures Success cannot be fully realized except in the light of the failures that we must go through in order to achieve it. We must learn to develop success from our greatest failures. We must understand that we will become discouraged and, at times, our hope will fade. It is only then that we can recognize and appreciate success when it comes. Each decision we make, every action that we take is a step toward the success that we desire to achieve. In fact, discouragement and failures are the very stepping stone that we need to navigate over the murky slime that would otherwise engulf us. God never promises us that our path will be clear, nor that we will be free from hardship and anguish. He does promise us that He will guide and direct us. He does promise us that He will give us the strength and courage that we need. He will see us through the discouragements and failures that we will inevitably face. It is then that we will realize the sweet success that we desire, and also realize that as long as we follow God's precepts, then He will place the stepping stones along our path that will allow us to live a rich and satisfying life each day. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+8:18&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 8:18) says, “Remember the Lord your God. Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 1041 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. I am Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Charlton Heston Had Company – Wisdom Wednesday Wisdom – the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Heiser. He has compiled these essays into a book titled I Dare You Not to Bore Me with the Bible. The Ten Commandments have had a huge impact on our world, and our culture. Do we really know all the details of how they came to be? In today's essay, we will explore a passage that shows… Charlton Heston Had Company When we hear “Moses Law,” we think of the story we heard in Sunday school or the scene from The Ten Commandments where Charlton Heston (a.k.a., Moses) gets the two tablets from God. But what if I told you Moses and God weren’t alone? It may come as a surprise, but the New Testament tells us in three places that the Law was delivered by angels, members of God’s divine council. Here are two of those passages: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts+7%3A52-53&version=NLT (Acts 7:52-53) – Name one prophet your ancestors didn't persecute! They even killed the ones who predicted the coming of the Righteous One—the Messiah whom you betrayed and murdered. You deliberately disobeyed God's law, even though you received it from the hands of angels. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+2%3A1-2&version=NLT (Hebrews 2:1-2) – So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. I was pretty shocked the first time I saw these verses. And I certainly hadn’t heard about them in church. So what passage in the Old Testament were they quoting? That's the second jolt. There isn’t a clear reference to it, at least not in the Old Testament we use. The New Testament writers didn’t invent the idea, though. They got it from https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+33%3A2-4+&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 33:2-4) in their Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Old Testament. The Septuagint more clearly connects angels to the Law than the traditional Hebrew text upon which our English translations are based. So they were using a translation. We can understand that. But we’re not done. It gets a bit stranger. The third New Testament passage that talks about the Law and angels is found in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians+3%3A19-20&version=NLT (Galatians 3:19- 20). And this time, it isn’t just a crowd of angels with Moses and God, Why, then, was the law given? It was given alongside the promise to show people their sins. But the law was designed to last only until the coming of the child who was promised. God gave his law through angels to Moses, who was the
