Have you ever heard the hymn ‘Leaning on the Everlasting Arms?' The lyrics are full of truth straight from scripture. It speaks to the assurance that we can lean on Christ in all things. Christ is our all-sufficient helper and comfort. We are continuing in our message series, Signs of the King, looking at the Gospel of John to discover who Jesus is. In life, we are constantly searching for direction. We desire guidance, even if we are getting it from the wrong places. As a result of our misguided searches, we are left even further from our hope. The Bible makes it clear for us, that in every circumstance, we can lean on Jesus. What does it mean to lean on Jesus? We must come to Jesus, fully obey Him, and receive the gift of Christ. When we are in Christ, we can rest in the truth that we can trust and lean on Him in any and everything. Join us for another message of the series, The Secret Sign, and discover how you can lean on Jesus in all circumstances.

Your Faith Journey - Finding God Through Words, Song and Praise
This is a special musical presentation of Leaning on the Everlasting Arms with the Chancel Choir at Faith Lutheran Church in Okemos, Michigan.
God, at times, puts us out on the end of a ledge – and then causes the ledge to evaporate under our feet. As we start to fall, with nothing visible between us and the ground below - at some point in the fall, "The Everlasting Arms" of God show up, and we are rescued. What IS this aspect of God-following?
And The Grass Won´t Pay No Mind). Su iniciativa da la seguridad a Mike Scott de los Waterboys, por la que puede descansar en sus "Brazos eternos" (Everlasting Arms) en 1996.

The story of the black experience in America is not limited to the accounts of oppression during the days of slavery. On In The Market with Janet Parshall this week we once again spoke to a man whose life has been marked by his passion for civil rights and the desire to see the stories of these resilient people shared and retold as encouragement and motivation to those who see themselves as less than in our society. He shared how their strength and perseverance against seemingly insurmountable odds can be a model for restoration and progress in America today and why radical grace must be an essential element in that transformation. In practical terms how do we speak the often uncomfortable truth of the Gospel those who are actively resistant while still showing genuine love? It is not a simple proposition. But our guest helped clear away the fog with some clear, biblically sound guidelines to help us understand how to speak the truth in love and why humility is an essential element is these conversations. He also prepared us for the inevitable times of rejection we will face and how to handle those with grace. A respected bible teacher and expert on the Holy Land joined us for a timely conversation on the roots of the conflict now consuming the Middle East. He explained God’s covenant with the Jewish people, why this people has faced rejection and discrimination throughout human history and how the events of history are playing a dramatic and direct role in the conflict today. Where do you turn when it seems like everything around you is falling apart and your human resources are just not enough? Our guest shared his own moving story as a teaching tool to help us understand what it looks like practically to find your strength and hope in the faithful promises and character of God. As we close out this week you are invited to join us for another challenging discussion on the headlines of the week and how to understand them through the lens of scripture.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week, Ozark original ACMA nominated and rising national bluegrass sensation The Casey Penn Band recorded live at the Ozark Folk Center State Park. Also, an interview with Casey Penn. As a bonus, music and commentary from Ozark original prodigies and Mountain View's very own Ozark Strangers. Based in Central Arkansas, Casey Penn is an Arkansas Country Music Award-nominated songwriter and a performing bluegrass and Americana artist. She's represented by Mountain Fever Records, for which she has released three singles and a debut album (One Step Away / February 2023). Her newest single, "We Go Together Like a Guitar and a Fiddle," is available now and is climbing the Bluegrass Unlimited Top 30 charts. Her full album is climbing the Top 15 Album Chart for Bluegrass Unlimited as well. Casey is a former founding member of the Americana duo Lee Street Lyrical. Now dissolved, the band was signed to MFM's Travianna Records and was a repeat ACMA nominee for Acoustic Act of the Year. “I'll Never Be A Mountain Girl,” written by Penn and Irene Kelley, reached #8 on Bluegrass Today's Weekly Grassicana chart. Casey is joined in this performance by: her husband Will Penn on acoustic bass; singer-songwriter Roger King on guitar, dobro, and vocals; Gravel Yard band member Titus Turner on mandolin; and Titus' sister, multi-instrumentalist Tiffany Turner on banjo, guitar, and vocals. Although the Ozark Strangers are young, they're by no means novices. Born out of the Ozark Folk Center State Park's Music Roots program, these young men have built a name for themselves in the local bluegrass scene. Ranging in age from 13 to 19, the Strangers have already been performing professionally for years. Under the tutelage of Music Roots educator and renowned bluegrass producer Crystal McCool, the Ozark Strangers have competed at the Silver Dollar City KSMU Youth in Bluegrass Contest and have released a live album. The band's roster includes: Sugar Foot Gordon Parker on mandolin; Jordan Brannon on guitar; Truett Brannon on fiddle; Zach Ledbetter on acoustic upright bass; and Jake Ledbetter on banjo. In this week's “From the Vault” segment, OHR producer Jeff Glover offers a 1981 archival recording of Ozark original bluegrass band Gospel Grass performing the traditional song “Everlasting Arms” from the Ozark Folk Center State Park archives. In this week's guest host segment, renowned traditional folk musician, writer, and step dancer Aubrey Atwater pays homage to folk icon Jean Ritchie, featuring the song “Sings the Soldier.”

"It Is Well With Our Souls" (The Story You Live In Is The Story You Live Out, Pt.3) 11/5/23 Sermon Thursday April 27, 2023, from 7pm-11:30pm will be forever etched in my heart's memory. The hospice RN, Muhammad, motioned for Karen to come into the room. Early that evening our church prayer team prayed over her father, Gary, via Facetime and Doug Allen sang the most anointed version of Leaning on the Everlasting Arms of Jesus that I had ever heard. Gary breathed his last earthly breath as Karen held her daddy in her arms – Joyce, Karen, Gary, Melodie and I were standing of what NT Wright refers to as thin place ( I explain in the sermon). I was struck by the intensity of the grieving that I witnessed that evening, including my own. We hugged each other with such passion that it just moved me. Later I was thinking about what I wanted the family to know - how they are to deal with grief…. how to move through it…what they are to do with the pain. This led me to recall the account of David when he grieved the death of his son with Bathsheba. Here is the scripture reference of the whole story 2 Samuel 12: 16-23 “David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in a sackcloth on the ground. The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them. On the seventh day the child died. David's attendants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, “While the child was still living, he wouldn't listen to us when we spoke to him. How can we now tell him the child is dead? He may do something desperate.”David noticed that his attendants were whispering among themselves, and he realized the child was dead. “Is the child dead?” he asked.“Yes,” they replied, “he is dead.” Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the Lord and worshipped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they served him food, and he ate. His attendants asked him, “Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!” He answered, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, ‘Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live.' But now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”I want to emphasize verses 20 and 23 “I go to him”. We will go to our loved ones; they will not return to us!!! This is the greatest assurance of hope that we have. God will make all things new. It is well with our Souls! Grace and Peace,Stephen

There is a poetic proverb that states, “If religion were something that money could buy, the rich would live and the poor would die.” We all know that religion falls far short of what is required if we are to enjoy a healthy relationship with God, and rather than trying to appease God through performance, let us find comfort in the capacity to be at peace with God. Rest is a remedy for spiritual anxiety. It is a remedy for religious striving and feeling that we have to prove our fidelity to God and hold on so tight out of fear we might lose Him. In this message, we're going to look at how we can lean on the everlasting arms of God and rest in His presence, rather than continuing to strive for perfect performance.
