Tap here to send us a message!True prayer aligns with God's will, seeking His purpose and glory above our own desires or ambitions. As the Psalmist expressed in Psalm 119, a heart grounded in God's Word learns to delight in His commandments and trust His plans. When we pray with this mindset, our requests become less about personal gain and more about living lives that honor and reflect His will.01/16/2025 - Thursday NightScriptures:Psalm 119:33-40Matthew 7:13Galatians 5:19-21Psalm 10:3Mark 7:21Luke 12:15Ephesians 5:3, 5Colossians 3:5I Timothy 6:9Hebrews 13:5II Peter 2:14Psalm 119:20, 43, 75 (ESV) Psalm 19:9 (ESV)Deuteronomy 4:8 (ESV)

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” -Colossians 3:2-3 ESV Psalm 73 today. I identify with Asaph the psalmist in his petition to God about the perceived prosperity of ungodly people. Have you ever asked “God, why do good things happen to bad people and bad things good people?” As Christ followers our greatest strength is in our surrender to God and characterization of humility. Let's discuss the power of rooting our beliefs in God and what happens when we set our hope & focus on Christ.

Believe God is in the waitingWaiting is the worst, waiting in line, waiting for food(i get hangry), waiting in the carpool, waiting for the right timing…i'm actually terrible at waiting. I get so impatient…it's something I'm constantly working on!(I'm an impatient driver and I dont even know why…like I'm just in a hurry so I get frustrated on the road…)How many of you have been in a waiting season before? Waiting is no bueno. It's difficult. And frustrating. We are used to things fast. Fast food. Fast internet. Fast travel. A microwave culture. We live in a busy busy busy culture. If we aren't busy, then we aren't productive. If we aren't productive than we aren't fulfilling our purpose. If we aren't fulfilling our purpose we are disappointing someone. IF we are disappointing someone we….were unhappy so what do we do? We pile on more so we can feel good about our accomplishments but in reality we have so much on our plates that we cant keep most of it straight which in turn frustrates us even more….and the cycle continues. Is this just me or does anyone else feel this? There is something beautiful that happens when we can learn to wait. To stop the hurry and just rest in Him. Allowing Him to speak and lead each moment of our day. We have to SLOW DOWN in order to learn how to properly wait. When we wait and let God do what He needs to do to get us where we need to go, in the right time, with full abandonment…he shows up. God is in the waiting…just because you are waiting doesn't mean God has abandoned you. He is still there..teaching us to rest in Him and trust in Him. Scriptures for when you are in the waiting season! “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isa. 40:31).“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.” (ESV) Lamentations 3:25“Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.”(ESV) Psalm 33:20-22“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (NIV) Exodus 14:14Be strong beautiful woman of God!! It's easy to read the Bible and forget the significance of the book we're reading. Sometimes it becomes a chore we grind through or a hobby we squeeze in. The truth is, reading the Bible gives us direct access to the voice and power of God. We get to hear how he feels about us, what he wants for our lives, what he promises, and most importantly, who he really is. To truly love God is to value and listen to his Words, just as we would in any other relationship we care about. Check out this episode of Scripture Playlist to learn about how to truly love God's Word. And they ravaged the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. 2 It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king's house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful. 3 And David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, “Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” 4 So David sent messengers and took her, and she came to him, and he lay with her. (Now she had been purifying herself from her uncleanness.) Then she returned to her house. 5 And the woman conceived, and she sent and told David, “I am pregnant.” – 2 Samuel 11v1-5 (ESV) 26 When the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she lamented over her husband. 27 And when the mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. Psalm 107:1, 8-9 says: "Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever! ...Let them thank the LORD for His steadfast love, for His wondrous works to the children of man! For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things." (ESV) Psalm 107 is a congregational call to worship and give thanks. It's addressed to those sorely impacted by the Babylonian invasion, i.e. exiles. Some were refugees who'd fled to desert places. Others were POW's hauled off by their captors. But now the exiles have been returned home. This psalm's rightfully a call to thanksgiving. Even in the midst of trials, thanksgiving is in order. That's because God is a good God, ever worthy of our praise and thanksgiving. Believers down through time have chosen to give thanks in times of hardship because they hold in their hearts the promise of better days to come. The famous hymn writer, Isaac Watts wrote of this glorious future: "How astonishing will be the glory and the joy of that day when all the saints shall join together in one common song of gratitude and love, and of everlasting thankfulness to this Redeemer! With that unknown delight, and inexpressible satisfaction, shall all that are saved from the ruins of sin and hell address the Lamb that was slain, and rejoice in His presence!" Amen and Amen!

Introduction--The sermon on the mount is a sermon full of contrasts. -In the beatitudes, our Lord declared what characterizes those who inherit the kingdom of God. He then goes on to describe the differences between those people and the rest of the world.-His main emphasis is on how they are different from the Jewish religious hypocrites.-But He also declares how they are different from Gentile pagans.-What He declares is the difference between genuine righteousness and empty religion.-That difference is manifested in several categories as you walk through the sermon on the mount.-Different in their relationships with people.-Different in their acts of worship.-Different in what they deem as their treasure.-Different in what they are truly devoted to - God's people serve God not money.-And now, in verse 25, He comes to another.-God's people are different in their trust.-The world of lost humanity doesn't know God and as a result doesn't trust God.-The world is full of worry, full of care, full of fear, full of anxiety, full of self-confidence and self-reliance. It is full of self-effort, self-protection, self-trust.-Not so with God's people.-ESV Psalm 9-10 And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.-God's people trust our Father and look to Him as the one who takes care of us.-AS WE HAVE SEEN WITH EACH OF THE OTHER AREAS OF DISTINCTION, IT IS TRUE TO SAY THAT GOD'S PEOPLE WILL BE DIFFERENT, AND AT THE SAME TIME SAY, GOD'S PEOPLE MUST BE DIFFERENT.-WE ARE COMMANDED TO BE DIFFERENT-WE ARE TAUGHT TO BE DIFFERENT-WE HAVE THE CAPACITY TO BE DIFFERENT-WE MUST CHOOSE TO BE DIFFERENT.-THE TRUST THAT WE LIVE BY IS A T

QUOTES FOR REFLECTION “Hell begins with a grumbling mood, always complaining, always blaming others.... In each of us there is something growing, which will BE hell unless it is nipped in the bud.” ~C.S. Lewis (1898-1963), British writer and academic “Unbelief doesn't see God as the ultimate good. So it can't see sin as the ultimate evil. It instead sees sin as a good thing and thus God's commands as a stumbling block to joy. In believing the Devil, I didn't need a pentagram pendant to wear, neither did I need to memorize a hex or two. All I had to do was trust myself more than God's Word. I had to believe that my thoughts, my affections, my rights, my wishes, were worthy of absolute obedience and that in laying prostrate before the flimsy throne I'd made for myself, that I'd be doing a good thing.” ~Jackie Hill Perry, poet, writer and hip hop artist “Our huffing and puffing to impress God, our scrambling for brownie points, our thrashing about trying to fix ourselves while hiding our pettiness and wallowing in guilt are nauseating to God and are a flat-out denial of the gospel of grace.” ~Brennan Manning (1934-2013), Franciscan priest and author “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.” ~Viktor Frankl (1905-1997), psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor “Preaching should break a hard heart and heal a broken one.” ~John Newton (1725-1807), author of the hymn “Amazing Grace” “One mark of growth in grace is increased humility. The man whose soul is growing feels his own sinfulness and unworthiness more every year.” ~J.C. Ryle (1816-1900), English writer and minister “I do not know when I am more perfectly happy than when I am weeping for sin at the foot of the cross.” ~C.H. Spurgeon (1834-1892), famed London preacher SERMON PASSAGE selected passages (ESV) Psalm 105 1 Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! 2 Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! 1 Thessalonians 5 12 We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. 14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. 15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. Philippians 4 4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. John 6 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted.

SCRIPTURAL FOCUS: Ephesians 4:26 (ESV): Psalm 51:10 (ESV); Matthew 12:25 (NIV); There is an intrinsic pain that exists in African Americans that we do not have the ability or capacity to articulate with words to describe how we feel regarding the condition of this world and the context of "living while Black" in America to our children. There is a burden we carry for our children and the men in our lives every time they leave home that no one should ever have to take to God in prayer on a daily basis. And there is another burden that people of color, (and those that empathize with us), are carrying as we struggle to comprehend the loss of Rayshard Brooks' life or how leaders could pass laws posthumously on behalf of Breonna Taylor BEFORE they arrest those responsible for taking her precious life. That is not God's heart for us or His divine design for our lives. We must take intentional action to plan, implement and maintain change, however, we must first touch and agree and seek God's rescue and wisdom in prayer. This episode, "MAKES ME WANNA HOLLER!", is a devotional tribute to Rashard Brooks and Breonna Taylor. Host Mignon Seals wants you to know, "The Lord works righteousness for all who are oppressed" and He responds to the cries of His children; He will grant you rest for your tires souls. Listen now for strategies and encouragement to help you if you've reached the place that just makes you wanna holler. We want to trust in God, but it's not as easy as it sounds. Trials come, and things get in the way. But it goes even deeper than that. Find out what really keeps us from trusting God ashttps://www.thecrossingchurch.com/staff/dave-cover/ ( Pastor Dave Cover) discusses and prays throughhttps://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+52&version=ESV ( Psalm 52 ESV): 1 Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day. 2 Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit. 3 You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah 4 You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue. 5 But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah 6 The righteous shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying, 7 “See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+52&version=ESV#fen-ESV-14718b (b)] 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. My praise is continually of you. 7 I have been as a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge. 8 My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your glory all the day. 9 Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent. 10 For my enemies speak concerning me; those who watch for my life consult together 11 and say, “God has forsaken him; pursue and seize him, for there is none to deliver him.” 12 O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! 13 May my accusers be put to shame and consumed; with scorn and disgrace may they be covered who seek my hurt. 14 But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. 15 My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. 16 With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone. 17 O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. 18 So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come. 19 Your righteousness, O God, reaches the high heavens. You who have done great things, O God, who is like you? 20 You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again. 21 You will increase my greatness and comfort me again. 22 I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. 23 My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed. 24 And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disappointed who sought to do me hurt. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. Selah 5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. 7 On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. 8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah 9 Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath. 10 Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. 11 Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, 12 and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work. Interested in more content like this? Praise befits the upright. 2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. 4 For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. 5 He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord. 6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! 13 The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; 14 from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, 15 he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. 16 The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. 17 The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. 18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, 19 that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. 20 Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. 22 Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord. 4 Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie! 5 You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! O Lord, make haste to help me! 14 Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogether who seek to snatch away my life; let those be turned back and brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt! 15 Let those be appalled because of their shame who say to me, “Aha, Aha!” 16 But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the Lord!” 17 As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. Selah 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. 7 You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. 9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. 10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord. 11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart! Christian Meditation for A Bigger Life with Pastor Dave Cover
Today's discussion and prayer is on Psalm 118. We know that Jesus immersed himself in this particular psalm because he quotes two separate verses from it on two separate occasions in the gospels (v. 22 in Matt 21:42, and v. 26 in Matt 23:39). No doubt Psalm 118 was a place Jesus spent much time in personal meditation and prayer. We should do the same. We know that Jesus quoted from the Old Testament frequently throughout his ministry, but did you know that he referenced the Psalms more than any other book? The Psalms were integral in Jesus's prayer life. They were inspired by the Holy Spirit for our sake, to enrich our own prayer lives. The foundational promise and call to response in this psalm is in the first verse, which is also repeated verbatim in the last verse. Psalm 118:1 ESV “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!” This is a must-have belief for anyone hoping to experience the reality of who God is in their life. To see our horizontal circumstances through the vertical reality of all that The I AM is for us in Christ. Join in ashttps://www.thecrossingchurch.com/staff/dave-cover/ ( )https://www.thecrossingchurch.com/staff/dave-cover/ (Pastor Dave Cover) prayers throughhttps://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+118&version=ESV ( )https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+118&version=ESV (Psalm 118), focusing onhttps://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+118%3A24&version=ESV ( )https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+118%3A24&version=ESV (verse 24): This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. We need to remind ourselves why we should have joy, love, and appreciation dominate our emotions every day. Other verses discussed and prayed through in this episode: Psalm 118:6–7 ESV The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The LORD is on my side as my helper. Psalm 118:22 ESV The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. Psalm 118:25 ESV Save us, we pray, O LORD! Psalm 118:26 ESV Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! Psalm 118:28–29 ESV You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! There are two ways to look at life: horizontally and vertically.
