Have you ever felt like groups, communities, or gatherings within dietetics can sometimes feel a bit...off? In this episode of The Empowering Dietitians Podcast, host & dietitian supervisor Jess Serdikoff Romola helps you reflect on the communities you've experienced within the field, identifying concerning warning signs of cult-like behaviors that can seep into "community" spaces without us realizing it. By building awareness around unhealthy group dynamics, we can start to change the culture of the profession for the better. In this episode of The Empowering Dietitians Podcast, host and dietitian supervisor Jess Serdikoff Romola discusses the nuance of individuality "versus" community - does embracing a systems-based, community focused approach mean erasure of you as an individual? Does valuing your unique identity as a dietitian mean you have to also value rugged individualism? Your Ancestry Could be Messing with Your Love Life Decode the Emotional DNA you've inherited from your family system to finally understand, break free and create the relationship you desire. People the world over are fascinated with their ancestry. Over 100M family trees have been built on Ancestry.com alone, but it turns out we don't just inherit our physical DNA. Neuroscience and epigenetics show there are many other kinds of patterns we inherit- patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors called Emotional DNA. Our Relationship Patterns are an example of our Emotional DNA. Quite unconsciously, we tend to base our behaviors on the models that precede us. If we look at the nature of our own relationships, chances are we may find at least one multi-generational pattern lurking somewhere. Do you feel resentful and put upon because you're always the responsible one? Perhaps your mother and/or your grandmother had to shoulder most all the responsibility for their families because their husbands abandoned them. Or maybe your grandfather lost the family home because he gambled away his money and you now find yourself mistrustful of all men. The question is . . . whose fears, annoyances, dislikes, and withdrawals are echoing in our relationships, and how do we put a stop to them or even change them into strengths? National Media Reel | What is Systemic Work and Constellations? Interview op: Judy Wilkins-Smith, world-renowned Systemic Work and Constellations Expert, Author, and Motivational Speaker, explains how to use systemic Work and Constellations to uncover the multi-generational patterns that instruct our relationships, discern those that are in service of growth and those that are not, and offers guidance for shifting those limiting, inherited patterns to create healthy, dynamic relationships. Talk Points: People the world over are fascinated with their ancestry. Over 100M family trees have been built on Ancestry.com alone to research family history. Can we also research those family trees for our Emotional DNA? What is Emotional DNA, and what scientific evidence is there of it? How can we best identify inherited relationship patterns? Where do they come from? Once we identify those patterns, how can we break free of those that are limiting us? And how can we cement those that are supporting us? What is Systemic Work and constellations? About Judy Wilkins-Smith: Judy Wilkins-Smith is a highly regarded organizational, individual, and family patterns expert. A systemic executive coach, trainer, facilitator, thought partner, and leadership conference and motivational speaker, she has 18 years of expertise in assisting high-performance individuals, Fortune 500 executives, and legacy families to end limiting cycles and reframe challenges into lasting breakthroughs and peak performance. Because this isn't something we are taught as dietitians, at least not typically in our formal undergrad or internship training, it can feel intimidating, and it can be easy to have our best intentions land...well, not as we intended...with the person we're contacting. While there are many issues in our field that can spike in-fighting, arguing, and out-right bullying, none lately seem quite as divisive as the debate between weight centric (/weight-normative or "pro" weight loss) care vs. weight inclusive care -- and while Jess has discussed these issues periodically on the podcast in the past, it's time for a fully updated episode. There is no known cure for alcoholism, and the only proven treatment is spirituality. Jane Zarse is a recovering alcoholic who will never be cured. What she really has is a daily reprieve, contingent on the maintenance of her spiritual condition. When Zarse got tangled up emotionally, her spiritual condition suffered greatly. When a recovering alcoholic loses serenity, sobriety is usually next. Zarse is grateful that she didn't return to drinking, but if she stayed as miserable as she had become, there's no telling what could have happened. There are millions of people in recovery who are struggling with emotional sobriety. Most alcoholics come into AA as very sick people. They are maladjusted to life, unhappy, mentally defective, and out of touch with reality. They are so desperate to change in the beginning that they will do anything, but when they start getting better, some of them start slacking off. Alcoholics are childish, sensitive, and grandiose. When they stop working on recovery, their character defects become more pronounced. These character defects cause alcoholics to have personal problems that jeopardize their sobriety even after they work through all twelve steps. In Sober and Pissed Off , Zarse describes how she regained her emotional sobriety after becoming a dry, miserable alcoholic. She took her newfound freedom for granted and paid dearly for it. Sober and Pissed Off illustrates why sobriety is so much more than not drinking. This book is for the countless people in recovery who are physically sober and emotionally struggling. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberisdope/message

There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.” - MARCUS AURELIUS.................. Get Jane’s Latest Book Sober and Pissed Off is a book for recovering alcoholics who are struggling with emotional wellbeing. Zarse is grateful that she didn’t return to drinking, but if she stayed as miserable as she had become, there’s no telling what could have happened.

Playlist del programa:00 - Blaudzun-Solar (Intro).01 - Kula Shaker-Hush.02 - Sidonie-On The Sofa.03 - The Black Crowes-Hard To Handle.04 - Thin Lizzy-Running Back.05 - Tom Petty-You Wreck Me.06 - Johnny Winter-Shame Shame Shame.07 - The Dirty Guv'nahs-Honey You.08 - Shakura S'Aida-Don't Try To Lay No Boogie-Woogie On The King Of Rock And Roll.09 - John Hiatt-Little Goodnight.10 - Jet-Seventeen.11 - Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa-Somethings Got a Hold on Me.12 - George Thorogood-Bad to The Bone.13 - Electric Light Orchestra-Rock N Roll is King.14 - Van Morrison & Tom Jones-I´m Not Feeling it Anymore.15 - Blaudzun-Solar (Despedida).

What makes us feel The Spirit? Is it doing things like reading our scriptures, saying prayers or going to the temple? If we don’t feel it does it mean we aren’t allowing it or that it’s just not there? What if I’m doing all the right things but I’m not feeling close to God? Today I’m going to teach you what creates that feeling and I hope to correct the way we talk and think about this important part of our experience here on Earth. The post Ep 102.
