With the 2025 tour up and running, we're heading to our next destination - the home of the Braves in Atlanta, Georgia that hasn't seen a Pearl Jam show in nearly 13 years. This episode will cover the last time that they played in the Phillips (now State Farm) Arena back in 2000 that they will be returning to this week. We'll talk a little bit about the history of Atlanta shows that of course will mostly include one of the greatest Pearl Jam shows of all time in 1994. This show was given the distinction of being an Ape/Man show, which means it was one of a few handpicked shows that the band recommended that fans give a chance to when the official bootlegs were all released in stores. A lot of our conversations will be us trying to determine if they made the right decision selecting this show. There are definitely performances that stand out. For Crazy Mary, it was the first time that they ever passed a bottle of wine around during the jam. It's also the first appearance of the Romanza intro for Better Man that got played for the majority of 2000. We'll also dig deep on Binaural era tracks Nothing As It Seems, Breakerfall and Rival that we almost never get to talk about. Find out if we think that this one was worthy of the Ape/Man tag. Also to note, this episode was recorded prior to the start of the tour, so if you're looking for in depth analysis, head on over to our Patreon to check out the instant reaction episodes for both Hollywood, Florida shows! We're one week away from the start of Pearl Jam's 2025 tour, and as we have come to know over recent years, anything can happen at a Pearl Jam show. This show from Amsterdam in 2022 is an excellent example of that. After suffering vocal damage from wildfire smoke in Paris, Eddie was not cleared to sing in the three shows following the incident. Shows in Vienna, Prague and the first night of Amsterdam were canceled, leaving doubt that the planned second show would take place. However, Ed was able to take the stage without being at 100% and still put on a show to remember. You can say that this show was the beginning of a new era for them. There were stools on the stage to open as the band would play the first five songs seated. This was something that the band would bring forth into the next two tour years in order to ease themselves into a set to prevent Ed from over-exhausting his voice. This section proved to set the tone for a night full of surprises and deep cuts as Nothing As It Seems opened the show for the first time since 2000, and W.M.A. made a rare appearance in the set. With Ed needing some vocal help, he sought the rest of the band for respite as we got to hear Stone sing Mankind, Mike and Matt tag team on KISS song Black Diamond, and Josh wailing away on Purple Rain. We invite our friend, Lori Jernberg, on for this episode and hear her stories of attending the show and dealing with the cancelation the night prior. Check out this episode to wet your appetite before the band makes their way out on tour! This our first of many episodes this year celebrating 25 years of Pearl Jam's excellent Binaural tour from 2000. This was the first tour year that the band produced bootlegs of every show that could be easily attainable at any big box or local record store. You may have seen on some of these CD's a little icon that features a silhouette of an ape and a human. These shows were a part of the Ape/Man collection, which were specific shows that the band selected as stand outs from this tour. Tampa is an Ape/Man show, and they were absolutely right to use the moniker for it. This was the seventh show on a bit of a tumultuous first leg run in North America. Taking place shortly after the Roskilde tragedy, a few of the early shows had some unease and tension on stage, but for this night they were able to compartmentalize what happened to put on a phenomenal shows with boundless amounts of energy. Eight Binaural songs are played at this show, including a handful that are incredibly rare to hear today such as God's Dice, Evacuation and Sleight Of Hand. We'll talk about how this era sounded sonically where the band, specifically Mike, put heavy emphasis on utilizing pedalboards more than any tour year to that point. You'll hear a lot of that come through in songs like Nothing As It Seems, the Daughter jam and Rearviewmirror. This is a great show that should be on everyone's list to listen to, and we hope to guide you in that direction! Also in this episode we'll talk about the Last Exit mishap, hydraulic machines and one of the strangest things that Ed's ever uttered at a Pearl Jam show, which will bring up a semi-obscure reference to a King Of The Hill episode. Dyl has been a personal favorite of many of us here at Delayed for some time now. His albums, from 2015's Elements LP, are rich, dense, green, dubby and warm drum and bass that you just want to cuddle up with. Forthcoming on the consistently excellent re:st label, Nothing As It Seems sees Dyl moving across varying tempos and genre to produce music that feels free to explore mood as a central consideration. Premiering here, Maybe Not is a deceptively simple piece of drum and bass. Twisted organs soar over a laid-back minimal roller of a rhythm with skittering drum fills and breaks. A massive, ominous rumbling bassline really kicks things into gear, with the evolving harmonic interplay between the bass and organs provoking something akin to that rave euphoria that makes drum and bass so pleasurable for me. It is propulsive music that can alter and arrest, for a while, our experience of time. The energy tapers off marginally towards the back of the tune, but who cares? If I heard this tune drop when I was out somewhere, I'd lose my absolute shit. write up by Michael Burns https://soundcloud.com/dyl170 https://soundcloud.com/relationreset https://www.instagram.com/dyldnb/ https://www.instagram.com/relationreset/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_itsdelayed_ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed
We're heading across the pond to London for a show that had the honorable distinction of being dubbed an "ape/man" bootleg back on the Binaural tour. It was a two night stint at the Wembley Arena, and as the norm within the history of this band, night two shows are usually can't miss. But this night two kind of planted an early seedling for what future shows of this nature would look like, playing an entirely different set than the previous night and adding in some rarities for the fans attending both nights to feel like they got two very distinct shows. With only four brand new Binaural songs performed on this night compared to night one's eight, and a limited amount of Ten songs, the band went into every corner of their catalog to impress this crowd. We'll spend some time talking about a the more uncommon songs such as a monster performance of Habit, the second instance where Untitled/MFC were played consecutively, In Hiding being played for the first time in two years and a tremendous Off He Goes. But the story here will be found in Not For You. Played at a slower tempo perhaps similar to a Neil Young song, this version would end in utter chaos in which a certain front man would receive a nice battle wound to the skull. Our question of the week that you answered is have you ever been to a two night stay in one location, and what show did you think was the better of the two? Plus, our Gear Guru Javier returns to discuss some of Mike's effect pedals that created the era specific sound for songs like Grievance and Nothing As It Seems. Ahh, we're finally at tour week! Quebec City is going to kick off the September run, and that's exactly what we've decided to cover this week - the show from the last time that they were there in 2016. In preparation of the Toronto Binaural album show, they ended up playing four songs off of that record, and a nice array of rarities alongside them as well. The Binaural representation featured Of The Girl, God's Dice, Light Years and Nothing As It Seems, while the other rare stuff spliced in included Pilate, I'm Open, Thumbing My Way and Wash. But this show has a pretty unforgettable moment that exceeds everything above. Ed invites a ten-year old kid named Noah onto the stage to play Sad after seeing a video of him and his father playing it. It's one of those once in a lifetime moments, something that every kid dreams of, but is nearly an impossibility to actually happen. Pearl Jam made it possible, and we'll talk all about it in this episode! Visit the Concertpedia - http://liveon4legs.com Donate to the Show - http://patreon.com/liveon4legs
"Ladies and Gentleman, We Got 'Em!" is what you might imagine the LAPD saying as they have MADE AN ARREST in the murder of Teri Spencer. Hillary triumphantly announces this, saying "It's all over" even though she was also arrested for the murder of Teri Spencer and it did not turn out to be all over at that point. Something suggests there may be some twists and turns coming our way. Eric and Linda have a feud, as Linda refuses to bail Eric out of jail and says goodbye. Eric reveals that he still has the blackmail tape of Linda, and Chris rescues her as a prince charming yelling, "Stay away from her, she's mine!" Awww, sweet romance. Sweet Sarah from Iowa is not sleeping with Brian, sees that he has a shrine to her looking just like Teri Spencer, FEELS THE NEED TO SPEAK INTO THE CAMERA "he's making us look the same" and then goes back to David for comfort. Meanwhile, Julie is just going to move in with David. After all, keeping an eye on David is her favorite thing to do. But just an eye. But we start with some hot news from the Melrose Place facebook group where Teege's post about Models, Inc. generated more engagement than ANYTHING about Melrose Place in the last few months, including actual content from actual Jack Wagner who was the actual Dr. Peter Burns. Perhaps there is some Models, Inc. nostalgia out there waiting to be tapped like a sycamore in a Vermont forest ready to release some maple syrup. Join us for this monthly update of Models, Inc. Berlin is an important city in Pearl Jam's history. There's no questioning that. From the 1996 radio broadcast show to the Roskilde tribute on the 10th anniversary of the incident at the show in 2010, there are no lack of major moments that have happened in Deutschland's capital. The show we cover in this episode certainly fits into that category. At the famous Wuhlheide venue, the band pulls out their bag of tricks and creates a plethora of memorable moments for one of the best shows in 2009. The show may seem dominated by rare tracks with four songs from Binaural being played and four off of Lost Dogs, but some of the regulars will make for the biggest moments of the night. Even Flow was a show stealing moment, Daughter had incredible energy and crowd interaction, Small Town, flanked by a short tease of Stones song Angie, has a big anthemic vibe. The band simply came to play on this night, but it was the crowd that helped elevate this show to elite level status. And don't sleep on this version of Insignificance either, possibly the highlight of the night. As mentioned, yes, there are tons of rarities! God's Dice, Nothing As It Seems and Light Years rounded out the Binaural representation, but we also hear the Untitled/MFC combo, Glorified G, Unemployable, Bee Girl, an amazing rendition of Hard To Imagine, and the ultra rare early era song, Brother. Ciao! This week our Around The World series takes us to Verona, Italy where Pearl Jam performs in the historic Roman amphitheater the Verona Arena - a Colosseum that was built way back in 30 AD. We all remember the Immagine en Cornice DVD that documented all of the amazing scenery and culture of Italy, but it was actually back in 2000 where they played this incredible building for the first time. At a time where, unbeknownst to the band, they were about to hit a major career and life changing transition due to the Roskilde tragedy, this is a rare time in the Binaural era where they are feeling pretty upbeat and positive on stage. The Binaural tracks were continuing to hit their stride - Grievance and Insignificance being two that the allowed Ed to tap into something that brought the anger out of him, and Nothing As It Seems being played with Mike's original pedal brings a special kind of sound that makes the song feel like it's lifted into the atmosphere. This show had other great moments such as a 'f it' moment during Habit where a light was blinding Ed and they'd finish the song with a fury. The band was also doing something uncommon for the time in playing a full 31-song set, but the gap between the stage and the crowd left a little bit of the interaction feeling a bit empty. If you'd like to support the show, please head to our Patreon - patreon.com/liveon4legs and for $1 or more you'll unlock access to all of our exclusive episode content. Nothing As It Seems // Cristi Murgu // 17 May 2020 am by CFM
In the summer of 2018 we witnessed a possible turning point in the band when a second show in London was canceled due to Eddie having a busted throat. This would lead to a rescheduled date that ended the European tour with tons of great moments to make up for the cancellation. LO4L Patreon donor Aurelien was there that night and joins the show to discuss his experience. A lot of what we discuss in this episode is how the situation in London possibly has something to do with how quiet the band has been in 2019. Was Ed losing his voice so much of a concern that they halted album recordings in order for him to save himself for solo shows? We'll also talk about Can't Deny Me and whether after almost 2 years if it should even be placed on a new album let alone in a prominent spot on it. Aside from that, the show had a lot of big moments in the set that you don't usually get. Oceans and Nothing As It Seems as openers, Mankind, Satan's Bed, Fatal and a whopping 4 Riot Act songs that were played! Not stuff you get from a normal performance. It also has a wonderful dedication to friend of the podcast Andrea Oakes whom the band played I Won't Back Down for. We head back to the 2000 Binaural tour for this episode to cover the first of two nights of a stay at West Palm Beach. To help us cover this show is Florida native and fellow Pearl Jam podcaster Jessi Zilka who hosts over at The Porch Podcast. This is the first time we cover Oceans on a non-Patreon episode, so you guys finally get to hear why Matt has such a distaste for the song. It's been and will always be a hot button topic on this show and we're sure that we'll get our fair share of hate mail for it. Two out of three people on this episode enjoy the opener, so that should hold people off for now. Outside of Oceans, this show is a lot more straightforward and positive than other shows we've touched on lately and that's mainly because it's just an all out great rock n roll spectacle. Mostly everything is played well, not a lot of argument for set placement or variety. Nothing As It Seems was one of the standouts on this show where you could really feel the energy translate from the stage to the crowd. For all of you who want more exclusive episodes, head on over to our Patreon account at patreon.com/liveon4legs to donate and receive access to both New Year's Eve 92 and VH1 Storytellers episodes, with more new exclusive episodes to follow.
