Trading Strategies for the long term involve analysing the key financial ratios of a business to determine its financial health and to provide an estimate of the value of the business. “We want to perceive ourselves as winners, but successful traders are always focusing on their losses” -Peter Borish, Chief Strategist, Quad Group. Trading is a profession that dates back to the times of the Barter exchange. Two parties came together to strike a deal for goods that each party needed and the other had. That formed the basic groundwork of the system of trading. A stock market is simply a place of congregation of buyers and sellers of stocks, which represent the ownership claims on businesses. These businesses may include securities listed on a public stock exchange and securities that are traded privately. The first modern stock was traded on the Nieuwe Brug in Amsterdam for the Dutch East India Company in 1602. The first derivatives were traded in 1607 for that single company, with the dividend being distributed after some years. Futures trading and short-selling were also invented in Amsterdam after a few years. As of May 2021, the Market Cap of the National Stock Exchange is US$ 3.1 Trillion, with a listing of 1952 companies. Trading is a noble profession in India and is a subject of interest to thousands of traders. While there are many success stories, the market remains to be a place where people have lost a lot of money. The bottom line? Trading on emotions, by fluke and not following certain fundamental rules. Let's discover some of the trading strategies to always stay in profit: Here present 10 proven Trading strategies :

On today’s episode, Mark is joined by legendary Wall Street trader, Peter Borish. In addition to his success in business, Peter is also a founding member of the Robin Hood Foundation, an organization which funds New York City educational projects for disadvantaged children, and a founding board member of Math for America, a non-profit whose goal is to improve mathematical education in U.S. public schools. The passage he has chosen to discuss with Mark is Leviticus 25:35-38. Peter begins by explaining how he predicted the 1987 stock market crash, the role of the Robin Hood Foundation, and his reasons for selecting this passage. Together, he and Mark analyze the passage and its message of treating others as family, the call for obligation and responsibility, and the importance of acting righteously particularly during times of increased difficulties such as the current pandemic. Peter finishes by stressing the need to learn about yourself, shares the advice he offers those just beginning their careers, and, as with every guest, relates the lessons about mankind which he has learned. Today’s episode focuses on our obligation and responsibility to treat others as family, and it is brought to you by two men who daily live this passage – listen in to become informed and inspired. Episode Highlights: How Peter predicted the 1987 stock market crash The role of the Robin Hood Foundation over the years Why Peter chose this passage Treating other people as family Obligation and responsibility vs. charity The importance of acting righteously particularly during times of increased difficulties The need to learn about yourself Peter’s advice to those he meets who are just beginning their careers The lessons about mankind which Peter has learned Quotes: “The stock market crash precipitated the founding of Robin Hood.” “I think that in a nutshell was a little bit of the philosophy of Robin Hood.” “They are your brothers and sisters.” “It’s the right thing to do.” “You can’t be righteous without giving.” “If you give it away, you will make it.” “Giving becomes a habit.” “You take pleasure in raising people up to your level.” “Loyalty comes because you are interested in them.” Leviticus 25:35-38 If your kinsman, being in straits, comes under your authority, and you hold him as though a resident alien, let him live by your side: do not exact from him advance or accrued interest, but fear your God. Let him live by your side as your kinsman. Do not lend him your money at advance interest, or give him your food at accrued interest. I the LORD am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, to be your God. https://www.sefaria.org/Leviticus.25.35-38?lang=bi&with=all&lang2=bi Links: The Rabbi’s Husband homepage: http://therabbishusband.com/ Mark’s Twitter: https://twitter.com/markgerson?lang=en

Peter believes that the quality of life for those around you is much more important than the material possessions that can be accumulated. What has been a big change over the course of Peter’s career when looking at his younger trading days up until now? When he was younger he took greater risks because he had more time to recover potential losses. He was applying innovative techniques at high costs and was ok with doing that. He tells his clients two things: 1) Never minimize the pain when looking backwards from a positive outcome and 2) If you survive, you win. What advice does Peter give to the younger generation of traders trying to make it on Wall Street? Relationships matter. When you are younger and have success you think that success is going to continue. The markets are a humbling place and you will not always win. Peter has learned that building those personal relationships gets traders through the down times. Those connections need to be cultivated because you never know when that time will pay off. Entries don't mean anything unless you know your exit and position size. Entries are just prices. Entries, exits, and a position sizing algorithm are the 3 crown jewels to a basic trading system. Don't look at intraday charts - they are worthless and contain the most random data compared to Daily, Weekly, or Monthly charts - in that order. Trading is a game of failure - like baseball. You simulate your trading rules to a) see if they would have been profitable; and b) give you an idea if you have strong feelings about the frequency of losses and the drawdown. Trading is systematized attrition of your capital until a winner hits. Risking 1-2% per trade is insane. Start with 0.10% or 1/10th of 1%. Break your capital up into 1,000 units. Don't trade size in your initial entries. Wait for the market to show you which way it's going to go before you add more. Forget price targets. That's ego talking so that you can be "reasonable" with yourself around greed and fear. How do you know that what is a 3-bagger can't become a 10-bagger? Learn from Scott Kaminski, Victor Sperandeo, Peter Borish, Tony Saliba, or Michael Martin.

Michael and Peter change gears from charity work, to trading and Quad Capital. Quad Capital has had only 5 or 6 down months since inception about 42 months ago. What does their multi-strategy approach consist of? They look at alpha generating, capacity constrained strategies. They also believe investors are looking at liquidity, therefore that is exactly what they provide in their funds. Peter is the business of managing risk, not just being right. Another way of putting it is, “Are you interested in making money or are you interested in being right?” We should all be in the business of making money, over being right. That being said, is Quad Capital open to other strategies that could make them money? As long as the strategy fits within their trading philosophy, then they are always open to new talent. In today's trading environment, you need more going for you than just a set of rules to make it as a trader. There's compliance, clearing and execution, legal, accounting, and creating a track record.  Most traders don't like the sales and marketing end, so they bury their heads and create trading models. Unfortunately, that is not the path to getting discovered by a seeder or allocator. An aspiring PM or trader needs to begin the thought and planning processes at the same time they are developing their models.  If you don't know what you're doing, take a course in sales and marketing.  Michael Martin ends this podcast by reiterating why you need to have your own model that you yourself have developed.

Michael Covel speaks with Sam Polk on today’s podcast. A friend of Covel’s that has previously been on the podcast, Peter Borish, recommended that Covel speak with Polk. Polk wrote an interesting op-ed in the New York Times called “For The Love of Money”. Polk is a former wall street banker who walked away after making millions. Today, Polk runs a non-profit to help the poor understand nutrition. However, his op-ed is definitely controversial. Covel and Polk discuss the intensity surrounding the reaction to Polk’s op-ed piece; reactions from friends and colleagues about the article; envy and jealousy in the Wall Street world; Polk’s background and life growing up; filtering cultural messages; the line between individual responsibility and being part of a system; crony capitalism; power dynamics; the mythology of risk-taking in America; the solution for the investment banks out there; and Polk’s non-profit which he runs today. Michael Covel recently interviewed Peter Borish, who has an unparalleled background in charity. He helps run his charity like a business; there has to be results. Because if you don't run it like a business, there is often waste. Building on that idea Covel's perspective is that Government does the opposite. Covel moves on and discusses wealth inequality between the 1% and the 99%--a favorite societal debate today. For example, the Wal-Mart heirs have the same wealth as the bottom 30-40% of America's entire population. Covel thinks that when it comes to the inequality debate, however, that the government is ultimately responsible for inequality. They're pimping out the American people to large operations, whether that's banks, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and or fast food companies. Covel gets into specifics about this "pimping" behavior discussing how else the government creates inequality and discusses mandated healthcare. In the midst of all this chaos, there are trends--big ones. Covel notes that one of those trends is Singapore, and how it appears to be Ayn Rand's "Galt's Gulch". Average as a state of mind--is the poison to eliminate. Who wants to be average? You have to figure out a way to make yourself valuable--above average. Covel explores it all with attitude and tough questions. Free trend following DVD: trendfollowing.com/win.
