It's Casual Friday on The Majority Report On today's program: Elon Musk is set to become the world's first billionaire as Space X launches its initial public offer today. A More Perfect Union explains how this sketchy IPO could destroy many people's 401(K) accounts. Heather 'Digby' Parton, columnist at Salon and publisher of the Hullabaloo blog, joins to recap the week's news. Topics include the war in Iran, midterm elections and more. In the Fun Half: CNN airs a compilation showing the 39 times that Donald Trump claimed that we a deal with Iran is imminent. Trillionaires Trump is now claiming that Strait of Hormuz has been open the whole time, but we just didn't know it because it was a secret. Shhhhh don't tell the Ayatollah. Department of Energy secretary Chris Wright admits under oath that he lied when he tweeted that the U.S. had successfully escorted an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz back in March. That kind of conflicts with Trump's claim that the strait has been open. Elissa Slotkin issues a press release stating that she believes that Michael Martin, a Trump pick for a U.S. district court, would be different from the president's other picks in that he will admit that Biden won the election in 2020 and that January 6 was an attack on the Capitol. Unfortunately for Slotkin, Martin answered those questions in the exact same fashion as all of Trump's other sycophantic nominees. Marco Rubio cites three examples of what make America so unique; our constitution, the moon landing and the UFC. We take a trip back to 2018 to watch Susan Collins on CNN promising that Bret Kavanaugh would not overturn Roe v Wade. All that and more. The lads talk through: Eddie Howe in the spotlight for alleged failings but is really the fallguy for the failure of a PIF project that has stalled? Is talk of competing for major honours by 2030 helping or hindering the immediate future of the club? This week on “Jesuitical,” Ashley and Zac speak with Bishop Michael Martin, O.F.M. Conv., of the Diocese of Charlotte. Bishop Martin sparked headlines in 2025 when a document leaked with plans to restrict the Latin Mass and other liturgical practices in his diocese. Ashley, Zac and Bishop Martin discuss: - His pastoral priorities as bishop of Charlotte - Changes to the celebration of the Latin Mass in his diocese - How he approaches his outspoken critics within his community—and online In “Signs of the Times,” Ashley and Zac discuss the recent sexual abuse allegations against Cesar Chavez; Pope Leo's call for bishops to come to Rome for a meeting on the family in October 2026; and a Belgian bishop who said he will “make every effort” to ordain married men as priests by the year 2028. Finally, in light of Easter coming up, Zac and Ashley talk about the pope's favorite candy, Peeps! Finally, in “As One Friend Speaks to Another,” Ashley talks about her experience inadvertently unplugging on a recent trip and the spiritual freedom found from it. Subscribe today for access to our full catalog of bonus episodes, including 2+ new episodes every month! www.patreon.com/boysbiblestudy Sensationalist Christian filmmaker Danny Carrales has a talent for conveying the urgency of Jesus's teachings. It's one thing to hear the words that those who don't accept God's grace will be doomed to a life of eternal torture; it's another thing to actually see this happen to a guy who seemed like a pretty decent person but unfortunately dropped dead before he decided to accept Jesus. In an instant, he's floating above his body, traveling through a pillar of light, until the direction suddenly switches and he screams in terror as the sky around him turns to fire. This is an example of the high drama level of ESCAPE FROM HELL, cowritten by Danny Carrales and Michael Martin, the team who gave us the high-octane rapture movie THE GATHERING and also HEAVEN'S WAR, a CGI-heavy story of the eternal spiritual struggle unseen to humans. ESCAPE FROM HELL inhabits a couple of well-traveled Christian movie tropes. It takes place in a hospital, a frequent setting for faith-based movies, since it's a hub for souls entering and leaving Earth. Also, similar to Australian thriller TABERNACLE 101, the film's action largely concerns a scientifically minded explorer inducing a near-death experience in himself to prove the idea of life beyond death. Both films are like FLATLINERS for Christians, and both show that taking such a risk costs opening the door between worlds in very uncomfortable ways. ESCAPE FROM HELL is probably the more successful of the two for its tight structure, extremely laid-on-thick melodrama of family members crying while their loved ones' souls are experiencing eternal damnation, and weird, campy experimental techniques, like putting a sign saying "Ducks Be Not Proud" on the hospital roof so dying souls can read it before getting to heaven. Every collector of Christian films should have a copy of this VHS on their Bible study shelf, along with THE GATHERING and FINAL EXIT, the Carrales film we plan to watch next. Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an t-aonú lá is tríocha de mhí Eanáir. Is mise Sibéal Dempsey.Tharla roinnt eachtraí a bhain le gníomhairí ICE de chuid Donald Trump an tseachtain seo. Dé Sathairn seo caite, lámhachadh agus maraíodh saoránach na Stát Aontaithe darbh ainm Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Tá an bheirt ghníomhairí feidearálacha a bhí páirteach ann curtha ar saoire ó shin. Mar sin féin, leanann an marú roinnt maruithe agus gabhálacha eile ag na gníomhairí agus spreag sé agóidí sa stát. Gabhadh roinnt léirsitheoirí ag na hagóidí seo ansin. Bhí ionsaí ann freisin ar ionadaí Daonlathach in Minnesota, Ilhan Omar, a bhí ag labhairt ar an ábhar deireadh a chur le ICE, chomh maith le coimhlintí poiblí idir Donald Trump agus méara Minnesota. Dúirt an méara gurb é jab na bpóilíní daoine a choinneáil slán, ní dlíthe inimirce feidearálacha a fhorfheidhmiú.Tá Matt Damon, réalta an scannáin The Rip, tar éis trácht a dhéanamh in agallamh le déanaí ar chur chuige Netflix i leith déanamh scannán. Dúirt an t-aisteoir go bhfuil Netflix ag déanamh rudaí níos simplí ionas gur féidir iad a thuiscint agus lucht féachana ag scrolláil ag an am céanna ar a bhfóin phóca. De réir an aisteora, déantar plotaí a athmhíniú trí nó ceithre huaire anois, tar éis brú ón gcraoltóir. Dúirt sé freisin go raibh brú ann chun cuid de na príomhradhairc aicsin a chur níos luaithe sa scannán chun aird lucht féachana a ghabháil níos luaithe sa scannán. Beidh Damon le feiceáil sa leagan nua de sheaneipic na Gréige An Odaisé níos déanaí i mbliana, ach níorbh iad Netflix a léirigh an scannán seo.Fuair suirbhé amach go gcreideann beagnach duine as gach deichniúr Éireannach idir ocht mbliana déag agus naoi mbliana is fiche d'aois gur miotas é an t-uileloscadh, agus creideann naoi déag faoin gcéad eile go bhfuil scála na heachtra áibhéalach. Dúirt seasca a ceathair faoin gcéad de dhaoine fásta gur cheap siad go bhféadfadh rud éigin cosúil leis an uileloscadh tarlú arís na laethanta seo. Ó eisíodh an suirbhé, tá an Taoiseach tar éis cáineadh a dhéanamh ar na leibhéil an-lag feasachta faoin uileloscadh. Dúirt Michael Martin gurbh é an t-uileloscadh an choir is soiléire a doiciméadaíodh i stair an domhain agus go gcaithfear cur i gcoinne an leibhéil seo aineolais agus séanta. Dúirt sé go mbeadh an Roinn Oideachais agus an Roinn Gnóthaí Eachtracha ag obair chun clár oideachais a fhorbairt. Idir an dá linn, tá feachtas conspóideach ar siúl chun Páirc Herzog i Ráth Garbh, atá ainmnithe as iar-uachtarán Iosraelach a tógadh i mBaile Átha Cliath, a athainmniú, mar gheall ar ionradh Iosrael ar Stráice Gaza.*Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. Michael Martin remains as Fianna Fail leader despite continuing disquiet over his handling of Jim Gavin's botched Presidential Election campaign. Drivetime's Barry Lenihan reports.
The Jim Gavin report has landed, but does it really explain how Fianna Fáil handled repeated warnings about a serious tenant dispute? Or does it reveal a party too willing to accept reassurances, too slow to ask hard questions, and too determined to protect a chosen candidate? Fionnán Sheahan outlines the reporting behind the story, the weeks of verification, and the moment the party's bluff was called. Irish Independent Political Editor Mary Regan assesses the damage, the unanswered questions around Michael Martin's role, and why Fianna Fáil remains deeply divided. Michael Martin, raised in a hardworking blue-collar community, embraced the same ethic. An entrepreneur at heart, he hustled from cutting grass when he was 12 to working all types of jobs including golf caddying and waiting at restaurants to starting businesses. Determined to transition into the white-collar working world and being at the right place at the right time, he was exposed to the financial markets. He subsequently worked on Wall Street, managing commodity accounts. Despite the significant commissions, he realized that he could potentially earn more through an incentive fee. After three years at a brokerage firm, he started his own CTA. Emphasizing the importance of risk management, discipline, and emotional intelligence, and maintaining a mental edge in trading, he discusses his early experiences with commodities, the evolution of his trading strategies, and the significance of networking and mentorship.
