Citing personal reasons, BC Auditor General, Carol Bellringer, has suddenly announced her resignation, effective December 31st. She's been in that job for five years. Just last week, she issued a report citing weaknesses and gaps in how expenses are dealt with in the offices of Speaker Daryl Plecas, the Clerk, and the Sergeant at Arms in the BC Legislature. She says in some instances there was no policy, but in others policies were ignored. That report indicated spending by the Speaker's Office has tripled under Plecas.   Guest: Richard Zussman Global News Online Legislative Reporter in Victoria

Abbotsford MLA Darryl Plecas survived a day of chaotic debate over his future as speaker of the legislature Thursday, retaining his job despite allegations he's bullying staff, seizing computer data he's not entitled to and personally disparaging the “stupid” investigation conducted by former chief justice Beverley McLachlin. In a meeting with the media, B.C. Liberal house leader Mary Polak described a three-hour meeting with Plecas, NDP MLA Gary Begg and B.C. Green house leader Sonia Furstenau Wednesday night, at which she said Plecas was pounding on the table and accusing legislature security officers of corruption. B.C. Liberal leader Andrew Wilkinson said after seeing Plecas and his assistant Alan Mullen removing a computer from a security office late Wednesday evening, and hearing of his accusations about legislature security officers, Wilkinson tried to meet with Premier John Horgan Thursday morning to offer an MLA to replace Plecas. Allen Mullen is the special advisor to Speaker Plecas, and he joins us to discuss yesterday's chaos and the move from the BC Liberals to replace Plecas as Speaker of the House. That was just some of what the speaker of the BC Legislature, Darryl Plecas, told the Lower Mainland Local Government Association on Wednesday night in Harrison Hot Springs. His speech to municipal politicians focused on the lack of political leadership and what he called a crisis in the lack of trust the public has for elected officials. In an effort to underscore his point about a void of political leadership, Plecas said the Hells Angels, Mafia, and organized crime in general have good leaders. Those comments and others didn't sit well with some elected officials. He was interrupted several times including one Councillor telling him she felt insulted, and talked down too. Our Richard Zussman has just spoken to Darryl Plecas in the past 10 minutes or so. He joins me now.   Guest: Richard Zussman Global News Online Legislative Reporter

After nearly two months of secrecy, the Speaker of the House released a 76-page bombshell report outlining alleged questionable spending by two of BC’s top legislative officials: luxury hotel stays, pricey suits and a truckload of missing alcohol included. Speaker Darryl Plecas and his special advisor suggest that’s the tip of the iceberg, with more to come as the RCMP continues its investigation. But will any charges result from what’s being called a “culture of entitlement” in the upper echelons of the public service? BTS with CTV Vancouver host  Penny Daflos chats with investigative reporter Jon Woodward about how he tracked down Plecas for a surprisingly candid interview about the investigation, learning the Speaker paid a personal price for he scrutiny that came with his allegations against two of the highest-paid officials in the province.

Gibson has now come forward to tell Global News that he thinks what Reid did was wrong and she should resign. The lawyer for the two men at the centre of a spending scandal at the BC Legislature has issued a public statement after yesterday's release of a 76-page report compiled by Speaker Darryl Plecas. In the statement, suspended Clerk Craig James and Sergeant-at-Arms Gary Lenz complain that at no time over the last weeks or months did Mr. Plecas provide them with information about these allegations or give us any opportunity to respond. They go on to say, "We are confident that time will show that they are completely false and untrue." The all-party Legislative Assembly Management Committee has given the pair until February 1st to formally respond. In his report, Plecas alleges that the pair used taxpayer funds for: Luxurious travel expenses Claims for expensive suits, that were "part of the uniform" Cash payouts in lieu of vacation amounting to hundreds of dollars $3,200 for a wood-splitter and more than $10,000 for work tools and a trailer that never arrived at the Legislature Almost $800 on computer support for services at James's home - and $100 for help with an iMac mouse that simply had a dead battery $10,000 of alcohol in 2013 $5,000 of digital magazine subscriptions, including 'Palm Springs Life'   Guest: Mary Polak BC Liberals House Leader   Guest: Shannon Waters Head reporter for British Columbia Today National Content Manager for Queen's Park Today
