Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. America and all the ships at sea! Flash! Those audio chatterboxes they call "The Professional Left Podcast" are taking to the airwaves tonight with a retrospective that'll curl your permanent wave! From the swanky studios of downtown Springfield, Illinois, to your very own listening device comes "Nine Hundred Episodes in Sixty Minutes" — a piping hot sample platter of American political whoop-de-do spanning fifteen years of ballot box bedlam and legacy media failures that put the most corrupt man in American history in the White House! Twice! To mark this 900th episode of their award-ready podcast, today, the Professional Left kids will be sampling every episode from the past 15 years that ends in a double-zero. A little something from 100th, 200th, 300th et ceteraFlashback to 2010! When the Fake Tea Party stormed Capitol Hill while President Obama's healthcare hullabaloo had Republicans reaching for the smelling salts! The midterms dealt the Democrats a shellacking that made the '29 crash look like a slight dip! Also, 2011 saw wedding bells for our intrepid podcasters. But did they let their nuptials interrupt their podcasting? No, they did not!The audio oracles take you through Mitt Romney taking a beating worse than Joe Lewis' punching bag! Obama's second inauguration had champagne corks popping in blue states while red states nursed their bourbons neat! But – hold the presses! A corrupt, racist New York real estate crook with a coiffure that defied gravity and a former First Lady squared off in a campaign brawl that would make the Thrilla in Manila look like a Sunday school picnic! Donald Trump's November surprise left the pollsters with egg on their faces and their crystal balls in the repair shop!Join them as the Blue Wave of 2018 washed over the House of Representatives like high tide at Coney Island! 2020 impeachment dramas hotter than a Broadway opening night, followed by an election showdown during a pandemic panic! Biden and Trump traded verbal haymakers while mail-in ballots flew faster than V-mail to the troops overseas!Flash! January 6th, 2021 – the Capitol steps saw more action than the Normandy beaches with protesters storming the rotunda! The podcasters recall congressional hearings that made the Kefauver crime committee look like a bridge party! The audio oracles highlight Supreme Court confirmations with more drama than a soap opera, and a 2024 campaign rematch that had Trump returning to Pennsylvania Avenue after Biden stepped aside and Harris stepped up!That's a 15-year political roundup, as jam-packed with excitement as a three-ring circus. 900 episodes in the books, 900 more to go!Stay in Touch! This week on The Professional Left, we're asking the question that's suddenly on everyone's mind: "Does motivated reasoning have any limits?" When a president accepts a $400 million jet as a "gift" from Qatar and his administration floats suspending habeas corpus, are we finally reaching a tipping point? We'll explore why even some of the most devoted right-wing voices are squirming uncomfortably as Trump's corruption moves from the shadows into broad daylight. Is this his "Katrina moment," or just another Tuesday in America's descent into authoritarianism?Join us for a deep dive into cults, corruption, and the Constitution as we continue broadcasting from the Cornfield Resistance. Plus, what a little-known DC Comics villain can teach us about the emotional spectrum of greed in politics today.Links for this episode: Oxford Research Encyclopedias, 'Motivated Reasoning and Politics' https://oxfordre.com/politics/politics/view/10.1093/acrefore/9780190228637.001.0001/acrefore-9780190228637-e-923Capitol Fax, Former Gov. Content warning: Contains strong language and adult themes. Not safe for work or children. In this spicy episode, Blue Gal and Driftglass explore the history and strategic importance of profanity in political discourse. They particularly focus on how the mainstream media's obsession with "civility" has been weaponized against progressives. They trace this phenomenon from David Broder's pearl-clutching about "vituperative" liberal bloggers to today's both-sides coverage of Trump's attacks on the press. The hosts examine how the media rushed to defend Fox News when Obama questioned their legitimacy while remaining largely silent as Trump systematically excluded mainstream outlets from coverage. They also cover significant developments, including Trump's lawsuit against CBS, mass firings of inspectors general, devastating proposed Medicaid cuts, and Elon Musk's expanding influence over federal agencies. The Professional Left is recorded live from the Cornfield Resistance. In this episode: They say that in warfare, amateurs talk strategy while professionals talk logistics. With that in mind, I’m joined by Mike Hartmann, Capital Research Center Senior Fellow and Director of CRC’s Center for Strategic Giving to talk advocacy logistics, specifically the multi-billion-dollar world of private foundations that sustains much of the Professional Left, the position of the Right in advocacy resources and the effects of the falls of Steve Bannon and Jerry Falwell on those resources, and what is to be done about the advantages Big Philanthropy gives the professional Left. Hal Sparks goes over the whistleblower and impeachment news of the week, then talks to Driftglass and Blue Gal from The Professional Left Podcast.
Hi, my name is Jeff Reynolds, and this is Episode 15 of the Behind the Curtain podcast. This week’s episodes ended up being a double shot of Oregon news, as much of what’s happening in Oregon has actually made national headlines. This week’s first guest is a hero to many Oregonians. A member of the #Oregon11, Senator Kim Thatcher experienced the nuttiest legislative session she’s ever seen in Salem. The story of the Republican walkout made national news as the Senators left the state in response to threats of arrest by Governor Kate Brown. She participated in two Republican walkouts to deny quorum so that no bills could be passed, in an attempt to get the Democrats to stop abusing their power. We talk about the walkouts, how they successfully killed several bad bills, and what to expect in the next legislative session. We also talk about two huge new grassroots movements that were spawned by bad legislation – the Slavic Activation movement to get more Eastern Europeans and Russians involved in the electoral process, and the Timber Unity movement that rose up to oppose cap and trade legislation. Each of these movements has the potential to bring thousands of new voters into Oregon politics where they have never previously participated. You can follow Senator Thatcher on twitter. at @KimThatcherGOP. Also, you really should check out slavicvote.org and the #TimberUnity group on Facebook. My local guest this week is my friend and former candidate for the Republican nomination for governor in Oregon, Greg Wooldridge. Greg is a Navy veteran who served three tours in command of the elite aerobatics team, the Blue Angels. Greg has developed a unique leadership training program that he’s introduced to Fortune 500 companies, teams, and other organizations to help them create an environment in which humility and excellence are promoted. Greg and I discuss how his leadership training can help Oregon Republicans overcome superminority status in Salem, and how Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and Oregon Governor Kate Brown fail the most basic principles of leadership. This was a really fun discussion, and I think listeners will get a lot out of how he adapted what he learned about leadership in the military for use in the private sector. Don’t forget to subscribe to the Behind the Curtain podcast wherever you listen to it, and please leave a positive rating. The more subscribers and the better ratings, the higher Behind the Curtain will rank on podcast services like iTunes and Google Podcasts, among MANY OTHERS. Stick around to the very end so you can hear the full version of I Am America, the theme song, by my buddy Brian Futch. Quick note about my book. I’m currently planning an east coast trip in the fall to speak at my alma mater, Connecticut College, and their college republican club. I’m excited to return after many years and confront the liberal campus culture with real facts about who owns the Professional Left in America. If you know of any conservative clubs, Republican groups, Tea Party or 912 clubs, or anyone else who would get something out of following the dark money on the Left, please email me at info@5440fight.com. This week’s episodes is one of my favorites, featuring two discussions that are fun, informative, and thought provoking. It also features my first ever crossover episode, featuring other podcasters in a joint effort. First though, a note on my recording schedule. With the advent of summer and the kids out of school, I’m finding the demands on my time at an all time high. I will continue to attempt a weekly show schedule, and starting this week, episodes will be released on Thursdays. SO. This week’s first guest is another blogger friend of mine. We go way back, so we have a lot to talk about. Kemberlee Kaye is the Senior Contributing Editor of Legal Insurrection. We discuss the false racism charges that led to an $11 million fine against Oberlin College after a libel lawsuit, the newly formed Legal Insurrection Foundation to combat against the false information propagated by intersectionality and anti-zionist activists, and what President Trump has done to turn her from an enthusiastic opponent in the primary to an enthusiastic supporter of his reelection. You can find Kemberlee’s work at legalinsurrection.com, and she’s on Twitter at twitter.com/kemberleekaye. Kemberlee also joined me for a BONUS segment for our Patreon subscribers. This is exclusive content only available to the paid subscribers to Behind the Curtain on Patreon. In this bonus segment, we continued our great conversation by talking about Jussie Smollett, Justin Amash, and what Republicans do right on messaging – and what they do pathetically wrong. Sign up as a patron at patreon.com/BehindTheCurtainWithJeffReynolds. My local guests this week are James Ball and Nick Prelosky. These guys are not only local Republican precinct committeepeople from Multnomah County, but they also host The Rational Republican Podcast. They describe the podcast as promoting individual liberty and conservative principles while rejecting hatred and divisiveness. This episode was a cool concept where we began our discussion for a segment on their podcast – discussing our differences over the forced child vaccination bill that Oregon floated in this past legislative session – and ending with this segment on Behind the Curtain talking about how Republicans can create messages that win hearts and minds in Oregon. We go in depth on this topic, and a few fireworks fly. Great discussion! You can find the Rational Republican podcast on all major podcast services, and on social media by searching State over Party. You can also check them out at their website, jamesaball.com. Quick note about my book. The fabulous Driftglass returns to Lush Left Media! We are talking about the GOP,the abortion bans happening, and so much more. Driftglass is a longtime blogger and the co-host of one of the best podcasts out there, "The Professional Left"
Welcome in to Lucky Episode Number 13 of the Behind the Curtain podcast. I’m your host, Jeff Reynolds. This week I talk to two very involved activists who focus a lot of their energy on local politics, while maintaining a national perspective. My first guest is mom, activist, writer, and podcaster extraordinaire, Kira Davis. My buddy Kira and I go way back to the early days of the Tea Party, blogging, and surviving the Kruiser Kabana days. She recently earned a position as roving editor of RedState, along with co-hosting the Smart Girls Politics podcast with April Gregory. Kira and I talk about her new position at RedState, the state of conservative media – a favorite topic of mine – and her deep dive into the comprehensive sex education curriculum in California, and her organizing efforts to fight back. We also poke fun at the 2020 field of Democratic presidential hopefuls, just for fun. You can find Kira on Twitter at twitter.com/realkiradavis. Also, be sure to follow her on RedState.com, and subscribe to the Smart Girls Politics podcast. Quick note: again no bonus segment this week for Patreon, but you really should go check out previous recordings. There’s tons of extra info available exclusively for our patrons, which you can find at patreon.com/BehindTheCurtainWithJeffReynolds. My local guest this week is John Ley, who lives just over the Columbia River in Southwest Washington. John has been following local transportation issues in Oregon and Washington for years, and ran for the Washington legislature in 2014. We chat about how insane the transportation policies of our respective states are, how destructive tolling will be for the average commuter, and what they should be doing but refuse to do to solve our regional transportation problems. This was a fun talk that really got into a lot of important detail. You can read more of John’s stuff at www.johnley.us. The show he co-hosts with his wife, Blue Gal is truly one of the best -- listen and support! http://professionalleft.blogspot.com/

16 April 2018 - There comes a time in every federal budget cycle when I have to find a way to talk about debt and, specifically, the Dems dangerous debt dance. This time I decided to switch things up and invited Frances Langum (Bluegal), from my favorite podcast, The Professional Left, to interview me and to provide push-back. Fran is someone for whom I have enormous respect but, like 99% of the Dems out there, she comes at economics from a purely Keynesian perspective...and that's what I wanted. You are going to love the conversation and, I hope you find it an interesting way to get the MMT message out. At the top of the show I refresh the information about the Rapid Response events taking place when (if) Trump does any of the following: fires Robert Mueller, fires Rob Rosenstein, pardons any key witnesses. Please go to Nobody Is Above the Law to register for the event closest to you. Our democracy cannot be allowed to go down without a fight. Also, on the day you can tune in to Netroots Radio for a live stream as events unfold. During the rest of the show Will covers an item you may have missed on your news feed, the angry Scottish badger, as well as some of the larger issues surrounding the US/UK/French strike on Syria. I get into Mick Mulvaney's appearance on Capitol Hill to give his bi-annual report from the CFPB. Both Joan McCarter, of Daily Kos, and David Dayen, for The Nation, covered this particularly well. Be vigilant folks, things are getting real. - Arliss

NOTE: Blue Gal talks late in this podcast about why she's a #MeToo participant. David Brooks omits whole sentences of Lincoln's Second Inaugural address because what Lincoln said was inconvenient to his argument. No one at the New York Times editorial board dared to mention it to him. Why? Also, Blue Gal reads letters to the editor from the Peoria Journal Star. Hilarity ensues. 9 May 2016 - This week on Hopping Mad we had two guests for an extended interview which we dubbed our Pundit Primer. Greg Dworkin (DemFromCT at dKos and Twitter) and Driftglass ( his own blog and Mr_Electrico on Twitter). Greg starts most weekday mornings on the popular Netroots Radio show and podcast, Kagro in the Morning with David Waldman. Driftglass joins Bluegal on the podcast The Professional Left, which also airs on Netroots Radio. These are both shows I can honestly say I never miss and I encourage you to give them a listen if you have not done so in the past. Both Greg and Driftglass are long-time pundit watchers and they both put various pundits into context and make us laugh. Just perfect. [Note: at the bottom of this blog post we have included some links Greg sent us which evidence the work of some of those pundits we discuss.] Will took a look at the Scottish election results which show what might happen to the Democratic Party if we decide to slide to the right. Scottish Labour is in trouble because they aren't fighting for the things the Scottish people actually care about. Scotland was once a country run by Labour with its largest city, Glasgow, called the "Citadel of Socialism" by pundits. But the red and gold "Vote Labour" signs have been replaced with the SNP's black on yellow Clootie Dumpling symbol. Glasgow's constituencies are held almost entirely by the SNP. Labour has fallen into third place as the battle in Scotland becomes one between the SNP and the Tories. Meanwhile, the SNP won a historic third term as the government of Scotland but lost their overall majority despite their vote share increasing. That's because the D'hondt method of vote counting is intentionally designed to prevent any one party from having an overall majority. However, the SNP were also the victims of inflated expectations and that's where another lesson applies to our own country. The Democratic Party looks as if it will sail to victory in November. But can similar inflated expectations hurt us here? Carrots! - Arliss
Episode 14 Discussion with Blue Gal of The Professional Left One reason to start a podcast is the belief that you have something important to say. That's the case with Blue Gal and her husband Driftglass who host The Professional Left podcast. They both come from the world of blogging and for a variety of reasons decided to start podcasting their thoughts and opinions. The Professional Left does a few things a lot of podcasts don't.In fact they break some of the traditional rules of podcasting: They never have guests. They do not have or want advertisers. They use explicit languageYet their podcast is growing in popularity and by all accounts is doing just fine. Listen as Blue Gal explains how their podcast came to be and how it has evolved. 2 November 2015 - This week we interviewed an expert on Common Core and, seriously people, she was incandescent. Even if you don’t have kids in school, you REALLY want to listen to this interview. Debra is a teacher-consultant of the National Writing Project and the California History Project, a school district Director of Libraries and Literacy leader, with a PhD in Language, Literacy and Culture from UCBerkeley. She has 25 years classroom teaching experience and provides professional development for teachers. So, clearly, she’s a rock star. What is especially revelatory about this interview is that Debra talks about Common Core from so many different perspectives. She has been on the front lines of Common Core since years before it made it into classrooms and she has the kind of insight that can only come from depth of experience. Will is talking about bird and bat guano this week. What!?! You think I’m making that up? He is covering the Spratly “Islands” and the claim made to them by China. The diplomatic scuffling between China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam over this archipelago is transitioning from talking to shoving. China is, of course, the elephant in the room but the US is reinforcing the status of the international waters with a recent Freedom of Navigation transit through the area by the USS Lassen. Personally, I’m proud to know that the US feels compelled to defend the freedom of birds to deficate freely in freedom with extra free freedom. I continued talking about the mechanism of fiscal spending versus the mechanism of monetary spending. During these many years of Congressional disfunction the Fed has been holding the economy together with monetary policy alone, which, I explain, is like pushing on a string. The economy will not truly recover until we have a functional Congress which is operating its fiscal spending responsibility with an eye toward economic growth. (And people in Hell want ice water too.) I also sprinkle in a little talk about social security just for seasoning. Technically this week most things went well. Debra had an issue with her mic which worked out nicely for her dog who wanted to get in the act during the “Extra Mad!” portion of the interview. I finally gave up on having our RSS feed hosted by Feedburner. They really are just AWFUL. Our feed is still there until I get the time to rip it down but our new location is at Buzzsprout. I LOVE them. Their site is easy to use and, unlike Feedburner, actually makes sense. Also, they have real humans in technical support and helpful help pages. So, Stitcher and iTunes are getting switched over. You should be able to find us easily on both in the next day or so. As the week progresses and I get a bit of time I will switch all the players on our site to the Buzzsprout players because they are nicer as well. A tip of the carrot to Bluegal, from my favorite podcast, The Professional Left, for her Buzzsprout recommendation. Carrots! – Arliss

Well, for one thing, not get too much exposure, or you end up "accidentally" drowning in your hot tub, like Matthew Simons. For another, expect to have no privacy and complete Orwellian Oversight - **with the added bonus** - of paying MORE for your intellectual property to be mined. The corporations now are directly writing laws and regulations. Lastly, get thrown under the bus by the Obama Administration for daring to espouse views that might benefit people rather than corporations. Overall? Pretty much get marginalized as high-on-drugs, dirty-f*cking-hippies for not praising the Obama Golden Calf giving us our golden shower, and basking with joy in said piss as red white and blue manna from the our Corporate Reality Creators, and believing all is at it should be. As Sally Panic says: GAME ON Lets roll............... because the Professional Left is not buying your shit anymore.
