What is regenerative farming and what does it have to do with beer? In this episode, presented by Proximity Malt (https://proximitymalt.com), we tackle that question with experts from each phase of the malt supply chain—farmer, maltster, and brewer. Joining the podcast: Walker Modic, environmental program director at New Belgium (https://www.newbelgium.com) and Bell's (https://bellsbeer.com) Derek Heersink, barley farmer and brewery owner (https://www.herkswerks.com) Zach Gaines, commercial director at Proximity Malt (https://proximitymalt.com) In this episode, they share their perspectives on what is and isn't possible through regenerative agriculture; how its context-dependent approach to soil health builds resilience in the face of increasing climate challenges; and how breweries can articulate value to consumers while managing their own supply-chain risks. This episode is brought to you interruption-free by Proximity Malt (https://proximitymalt.com), the first new-generation, full-scale, regional malting facility in North America, leading the way in malt supply with premium grains; advanced technology that maximizes flavor, performance, flexibility and efficiency; regional sourcing for closer, fresher grain; and a deep focus on closing the loop between farmer, maltster, brewer, and the communities that support each. While Soulmate Brewing's home is in Morrisville, VT., the story begins years earlier in Boca Raton, the home of Soulmate's co-founder Jonathan Mogor; and, now, that Soulmate is distributing, the natural first stop was south Florida. During the recent Ocean Brews and Blues Beer Festival, we spoke to Joanthan to learn more about the Soulmate story, find out about the beers currently available in the south Florida market, and hear the craziest beaver infestation story ever! Real estate deal flow is back but is it better? With inboxes full of syndications boasting high returns and “rare” opportunities, passive investors are under more pressure than ever to separate substance from spin. In this episode of Dig In or Delete, Jim Pfeifer and Paul Shannon return to scrutinize real deals sent straight to their inboxes, highlighting red flags, potential gems, and everything in between. From a 9-unit Seattle multifamily deal with fuzzy cap rate math to a BJ's Brewhouse ground lease next to a dying mall, Jim and Paul weigh in on market dynamics, underwriting red flags, and sponsor credibility. You'll hear honest, in-the-moment reactions to deals in Dallas, San Antonio, Louisiana, and more, including a ground-up development next to a new minor league baseball stadium. No hypotheticals. No softballs. Just seasoned investors making real-time calls on actual opportunities. Plus, stick around as Jim and Paul reveal which marketing tactics instantly make them hit “delete” and which details get them to take a second look. Best of Bristol: Hippos Can Fly! A Lager Love Story recorded LIVE at Lost and Grounded Brewers in Bristol, with Co-Founder Alex Troncoso, in the Brewhouse of his Dreams!

Send us a textWhen Alex Troncoso speaks about brewing beer, his voice carries the weight of 32 years spent perfecting his craft across continents. As co-founder of Lost and Grounded Brewers in Bristol, his journey from Guatemala to Australia, Belgium, London, and finally Bristol reveals more than just a quest for the perfect pint—it's a story about finding home."Eventually you don't want to be different anymore," Alex recalls his late father saying, words whose wisdom only became clear after launching a brewery far from his Australian roots. This intimate revelation anchors a conversation that weaves through personal growth, craftsmanship, and the philosophy behind building something authentic in an increasingly homogenized world.Lost and Grounded isn't just a brewery—it's a manifestation of Alex and partner Annie Clements' values. Their flagship Keller Pils, an unfiltered lager inspired by Germany's hop fields, represents their commitment to simplicity and quality. "Brewing is where art meets science and has a beer," Alex explains, comparing their approach to the difference between mass-produced bread and artisanal sourdough—both bread, but worlds apart in character and soul.Perhaps most compelling is Alex's candid reflection on the mental toll of relentless achievement. After spending years defining himself through accomplishments, he discovered a liberating truth: "If you define yourself by achievements, what happens if you don't achieve? You feel terrible." This hard-won wisdom has led him to a place of unprecedented optimism, where the brewery's success is measured not just in sales but in balance and purpose. With their flying hippo logo representing humility and inclusion, Lost and Grounded has grown from seven people to thirty-five, weathering COVID and emerging stronger. As Alex puts it, "Without the people, this is just a shed full of stainless steel." It's this human-centered approach that makes their story resonate far beyond the world of craft beer.Discover how patience, passion and purpose combine to create something truly special in this thoughtful exploration of craft, community and finding your place in the world.Tune in next week for more stories of 'Distinction & Genius' from The Good Listening To Show 'Clearing'. Happy New Year! Let's start 2025 off BIG. Sailfish Brewing is easily the largest brewery in St. Lucie County, possibly the entire Treasure Coast. We sat down with President and Co-Founder of Sailfish Brewing, David BuShea, and longtime friend of the podcast and Sailfish Sales Manager, Brian Tonnessen, to talk about their humble beginnings in the yellow house and bringing craft beer to Ft. Our Heroes WITH GRAYSIE review the Spooky Pizookie the day before Halloween. Wait what do you mean you're out of the Spooky Pizookie? Why would you advertise it then? What are we supposed to do? Eat pretzels? Oh okay. Our Heroes WITH GRAYSIE eat pretzels and pizza from BJ's Brewhouse this episode. They still get a pizookie, in fact the closest pizookie you can get without it being spooky. Does this beer slinging pizza port have the goods or does it fall flat without the scary star of the show? Also it's tub time for Michael & Jordan.
