So here we go again - the continuing saga of the Q.Feel drama…. More revelations will be revealed. The 80s is not a place - but a state of mind…. It's still 1982 and there are many strange and wonderful things happening in the world… But easily the most wondrous thing to happen is the release of the song, “Dancing in Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)”, and the subsequent album, “Q.Feel”, by my techno new wave group “Q.Feel”. Let me take you all the way back to London in the 80s when I formed the band (with guitarist Brian Fairweather), and wrote and recorded the cult underground club hit, “Dancing in Heaven”, and then made the synthesizer-dominated debut album. It's a technicolor tale… Strap in for the ride. And remember - the 80s is not a place but a state of mind! Martin

The wonderful renaissance man, Martin Page, returns for the full My 80sography experience.Because I had extracted two parts of our interview from last year for Anatomy of a Song episodes this was pushed back to make way for other interviews but now has its time to shine.Martin was extremely good value in the single longest interview I have done yet (4 hrs plus) and was especially fascinating in describing the plight of an aspiring songwriter/musician for hire in the early-mid 80s (which this episode covers). Devan from Rubberneckers joins the show this week with an 80's wild card episode! He brings a song that his cohost really likes but apparently is dogshit. But can it beat the song Branden brings? What's worse: a slow droning song about literally nothing, or an ultra upbeat song with annoying hooks and retarded lyrics. Martin Page had a tough career choice to make. As a semi-pro football player, he could choose soccer and try his luck at the professional level, or as a talented musician with a budding career, he could choose the musical path. Of course, he chose music and he gave it his all. It was a great decision, as a song he wrote and produced with his Q-Feel partner Brian Fairweather called “Dancing In Heaven” became an underground hit on KROQ radio in Los Angeles . This success prompted his move from London to Los Angeles, which opened the door to connections with many of his musical heroes, including Bernie Taupin, Maurice White and so many others. While Martin’s passion for soccer has never waned, music is still his first love and the career choice we’re all glad he chose to follow. Inside MusiCast is pleased to welcome Martin Page.
“ Radio Owlsnest Episode 16 “ Welcome home again to the musical nest, you crazy OwlHeads, it’s time for another episode of my slightly deranged songwriter’s podcast - in a place where you’ll only hear my demos, sprinkled with the odd brand new ditty (craftily thrown in there to prove that I’m really - yes REALLY - still alive!). Hard to believe, right? So, my feral OwlHeads, prepare thy selves for more retro shenanigans. In this month’s show, I’ll spin a new Q-Feel track that’s in the process of being written as we speak; I’ll showcase a spanking new track from a forthcoming instrumental/ambient album of mine that relates to the works of Gandhi; and I’ll play a totally rare, unfinished demo that I wrote and recorded with the great blue-eyed soul boy, Paul Young ... before he vanished, roaring into the night on his shiny new Harley Davidson. A curious unheard song I wrote in the naughty 90s with the legendary session singer Tommy Funderburk will be given its first ever airing.... (the ghosts of Roxy Music and Icehouse hover near). And, being a media fanatic, I’ll try and turn you to some new books and movies I’m investigating and enjoying. And a call-in by the notorious Southern belle, Lucy Cadillac, triggers the genius wisdom of Bootsie, the resident feline ‘know it all’. Profound consequences abound! So if you fancy a little break from this hectic, unforgiving, cruel world, you could do well to join me for a short while in the familiar, cozy Radio Owlsnest - where we shall together surrender to our most precious of indulgences - sweet creativity. Martin

Hello again, my fellow OwlHeads! It’s my supreme pleasure to present Part Two of Brian Fairweather’s interview with me. If you heard Part One, you’ll know that you’re in for a strange, wild ride; whenever I get together with my songwriting partner of many, many years, it’s always a downright madhouse! This second half of the show concentrates on our arrival in America, back in the 80s, when we invaded these shores as hopeful, naive “hit songwriters”. You’ll hear how we bludgeoned our way into US record companies armed with briefcases full of demo/cassettes; How we played our songs down the phone to Kim Carnes (of Betty Davis Eyes fame), and miraculously through this maneuver, achieved our first Stateside top-40 hit. And you’ll hear the actual demo we played Kim that fateful day. You’ll hear how you could be a mass murderer, but if you had a hit song up your sleeve … that’s OK! You’ll hear how Brian and I had a “close encounter of the third kind” deep in the San Fernando Valley while driving an LA “Rent-a-Wreck” to a session, and that our lives would be forever changed by this “extraterrestrial” experience. We’ll tell you about the mind boggling experience of our first session in the studio singing and playing ‘live’ with Earth, Wind and Fire. We’ll jump forward to the 90s when Brian toured with me on my “House of Stone and Light” tour and tell you about a famous guitarist in our band (Neil Taylor), who fell asleep constantly at the drop of a hat ... even during sound checks! He often had to be carried-while-snoozing by the tour manager through airports to catch flights ! That’s how exciting my tour was. Around these awe-inspiring revelations, we’ll spin original songs written by Brian (one co-written with Bernie Taupin), as well as other unheard demos and a totally, ridiculously rare 4-track Q-Feel cassette demo based on the death of an iconic comedian. What more could you ask for? Well, there is more - A STUNNING WORLD SCOOP! We will be revealing - hold onto your hats - what really is underneath a Scottish man’s kilt. I warn you all here, it’s frankly disturbing, terrifying and not for the squeamish or children’s ears. So prepare to be amazed, my family of OwlHeads. Lay back, tune in, and tune out with “Fairweather/Page”. Martin X
Talking about Donna Summer's '80s hit has us pondering artists who can outlast backlashes, enjoying music to spite someone, and the unheralded legacy of a restroom attendant named Onetta. Welcome to all my loyal OwlHeads - It’s time for Episode 4! This is a different kind of show this month; I’m joined by a very special guest sitting in with me for the hour... the incredible musician and drummer Trevor Thornton. Trevor is the original Q-Feel drummer, so you’ll hear how our band came together and recorded in the 80s. We’ll be playing a very rare 4-track Q-Feel demo from that time, never before heard. And, what it was like to work with me back then? Trevor doesn’t hold back
Steve Cooper talks with musician Martin Page. Martin is responsible for writing and co-writng massive hits including We Built This City (Starship), These Dreams (Heart), King of Wishful Thinking (Go West, featured in Pretty Woman), Fallen Angle (Robbie Robertson), and many more for such artists as The Commodres, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Paul Young, Brian Ferry, Phil Collins, Josh Groban and Robbie Williams. He gained success in America for his own band Q-Feel with the dance hit, Dancing in Heaven, and earned a substantial pop and adult contemporary hit with In the House of Stone and Light, the title track from his debut solo album. He has since released five more solo albums on his own Ironing Board records.

I catch up with singer-songwriter Martin Page, who is behind the smash hits “We built this city” by Starship and “These Dreams” by Heart. Martin has worked with Bernie Taupin, Elton John’s writing partner as well as Maurice White from Earth Wind and Fire. He also played keyboards on Ray Parker Jr’s Ghostbusters. Martin fronted the 80’s band Q-Feel, who had the hit “Dancing in Heaven” from the movie Girls just want to have fun. He finally released his solo album in 1994 with “In the house of stone and light”, which is in my top ten of songs in the 1990’s. Speaking of the 90’s he collaborated with Go West on “King of Wishful Thinking” and “Faithful” Martin recently released The Slender Sadness, it’s a compilation of eight new songs and new recordings of eight past songs.
Starting the show with some upbeat, uptempo, synth and techno with songs from Devo, Cars, Q Feel and Flock of Seagulls.

Calling in some synth and techo in this set with Q Feel, Pete Shelley, Flock Of Seagulls and Peter Schilling.
Martin Page is a song-writing legend. Among his biggest hits are "These Dreams" by Heart, "King Of Wishful Thinking" by Go West and the immortal "We Built This City" by Starship, which remains completely ubiquitous despite topping many "worst song of all time" type lists. He started out in a funky synth-pop band called Q-Feel that may be best known for the song "Dancing In Heaven" from the Girls Just Want To Have Fun soundtrack. His song-writing success and collaborations with further artists like Robbie Robertson, Kim Carnes and Earth Wind & Fire have made him one of the most successful songwriters ever. Not to mention, it's freed him up to pursue a successful solo career ("In The House Of Stone and Light") on his own terms. The man is a Hall of Famer, plain and simple.
Continuing wuth the early synth sounds with Peter Schilling, Q Feel, Pete Shelley and Flock Of Seagulls.
