W/C 31st March 202526 minutes to go until this weeks TFM is due to be published and I have no idea what to do about the notes.Michael Sembello is pulsating out of the speakers on my desk, and if I flip tabs I can see the very MTV era video playing away in its non-widescreen format. We are due to be leaving the house for a family shopping trip to Meadowhall at quarter to, which is only adding to the pressing nature of my task.Normally I would have a little nugget leftover from the episode, something anecdotal perhaps or maybe a bit of interesting aside that would round out one of the segments. But for now I have nothing.22 minutes now, 7 until we are due to set-off. Quick mental recap of the week, but still nothing. I might just have to go with an empty page...Stay safe.Maniac - Michael SembelloTherapy For Me (or TFM as I now refer to it) is a bit of an audio curiosity. It started out as a mechanism for me to clear my head, with the hope that by saying stuff out loud it would act as a little bit of self-help. It's remains loose in style, fluid in terms of content and raw - it's a one take, press record and see what happens, affair. If you want to keep in touch with TFM and the other stuff I do then please follow me on Facebook, Insta, Twitter or Patreon. Thanks for getting this far.

From studio insights to the personal connections they have with the track, this conversation peels back the layers of their creative process and the thrill of covering a song that still gets hearts racing today. So, turn up the volume and get ready—because Tess and The Details are here to prove that Maniac is more alive than ever!

What's up, dudes? “Gremlins” is a classic holiday horror, made better by Jerry Goldsmith's score and the killer hits of Michael Sembello and Peter Gabriel. Kevin Williams from ‘Tis the Soundtrack joins me to really dig into a couple of cues from the “Gremlins” score and dish about music theory of it all as well.We first get into the mega madness with the Sembello track. Played during the bar scene, the uptempo dance song set the stage for the “Maniac”-like antics of the dancing green creature. The film also features a track by Quarterflash and Darlene Love's epically classic “Christmas.”Goldsmith's penchant for atonality shines forth in the frantic cue ‘No Santa Claus.' The Stravinsky-esque eighths are composed of dueling tritones E-Bb and D-Ab and immediately transition to alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8. Subsequently, all this segues quite nicely into held sonorities overlaid with “Silent Night” as Kate begins her tale of holiday woe. Talk about harmonization!Altered mystic chord? Check. Catchy mogwai theme? Got it. Synthesizer? Yes, but only if there's 7 different types! So grab your Roland Jupiter-6, join the orchestra, and play along to this episode all about the “Gremlins” score and soundtrack!‘Tis the SoundtrackYouTube: @TisTheSoundtrackIG:  @tisthesoundtrackNicolas Delage solving the mystery of Gizmo's voice!Be sure to check out the brilliant publication of Goldsmith's work by Chris Siddall, which made this analysis possible. Give us a buzz! Welcome to Mona Lisa Overpod, the show that asks the question "What is cyberpunk?" On each episode, hosts Ka1iban and author Lyda Morehouse dive into the genre that helped define sci-fi fiction in '80s and they break down its themes which remain relevant to our lives in the 21st century. Pull on your mirrorshades, jack into the matrix, and start your run with us today!Cyberpunk, culturally, is as much about style as it is about theme, and every good scene needs a soundtrack. But what exactly constitutes cyberpunk music? What BPM correctly communicates "down with the corpos"? Can you make cyberpunk music with analog instruments? And how does Michael Sembello fit into all of this? In this episode, we discuss the evolution of electronic music and the "cyberpunk sound", its roots in the punk movement and early electronica, the balance between composition and theme, the importance of "feel", defining an art form through constraints, and we ask whether or not "cyberpunk music" is a living genre. We also talk about dead Aibos, Dexy's = not cyberpunk, tapepunk, the trans history of synthesized music, Krautrock, how Blade Runner DIDN'T influence cyberpunk music, cyber-meetings with Timothy Leary, the Suck Fairy, synthwave and the Desert of the Real, the non-cyberpunk Matrik soundtrack, and how cyberpunk music looks back to look forward."If you have exceptions, you do have a rule." - Lyda MorehouseThe new edition of Lyda's book, Ressurection Code, is out now!https://wizardstowerpress.com/books-2/books-by-lyda-morehouse/resurrection-code/Join Kaliban on Twitch weekdays at 12pm for the Cyber Lunch Hour!http://twitch.tv/justenoughtropePut Just Enough Trope merch on your body!http://justenoughtrope.threadless.comMLOP is a part of the Just Enough Trope podcast network. He is a singer, pianist, and songwriter. I love his music. Joel is commonly nicknamed the “Piano Man.” after his signature 1973 song of the same name. Joel has had a successful music career as a solo artist throughout the 1970s and 80s. My favorite song by Billy Joel is Tell Her About it (singing). The song Tell Her About is written and performed by Billy Joel released as a single from his album An Innocent Man (1983). The song hit the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week on September 24, 1983, replacing "Maniac" by Michael Sembello. The single was certified Gold by the RIAA for US sales of over 500,000 copies. There was also a video for the song. I loved the way Billy Joel was performing on the stage as the crowd moved from side to side.Billy Joel is currently touring and has upcoming concerts. To find out more, go to BillyJoel.com.

It's all about finding that passion....and making it happen. On this episode we're running it back to 1983 for the 30th anniversary of a film that while still a prime slice of 80's cheese, holds up surprisingly well through its sheer earnest nature.  It's time for 'Flashdance'.Flashdance is the story of Alex Owens, a fiercely determined and beautiful 18-year-old woman, who works as a welder by day and dancer at a local bar at night. The film sparkles with the music of the '80s including the No.1 hit song sung by Irene Cara ("Flashdance-What A Feeling") and "Maniac" sung by Michael Sembello. We follow Alex's struggle to gain independence, find love, and realize her dream-to dance at the Pittsburgh Conservatory of Dance. While it's hardly a perfect piece of cinema, there's something about Flashdance that holds up now even 40 years later with honesty and charm.  It's never looked better since it's release thanks to the 4K Blu-Ray released by our friends over at Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment and in celebration of that release we had the unique pleasure of sitting down with director Adrian Lyne.  We talked about the origins of him getting the job, discovering Jennifer Beals, why it all still works today and so very much more. You can buy the newly restored Flashdance on 4K/Blu-Ray combo pack from all major retailers.

Come together cover: The Beatles. The logical song cover : Supertramp.

We listened through a few times and didn't think much of it, but a few songs really drew us in and we rank the songs we both agreed were the strongest of the bunch. There's a who's who of musicians, producers and song writers involved in the making of this album, including Bruce Springsteen, most of the guys in Toto, Ernie Witt, and Michael Sembello. I think Michael Jackson sings with a chorus on one of the songs, as if there weren't enough megastars involved already. She felt it was less her album and more Quicy Jones's album that she sang on, and she may be right. Great songs on here nevertheless and we hope you enjoy!  Support the show

In The Key of Life“. Millionenfach hat sich das Album von 1976 verkauft. Mehr als 130 Musiker haben an Stevie Wonders Album „Songs In The Key of Life“ mitgewirkt. Album. Known throughout the 1980s as the first "trainer to the stars" thanks to a celebrity client list that included Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Madonna, Priscilla Presley, Bette Midler, and more, Steinfeld made personal fitness training an occupation in the early '80s, eventually going on to create the first exercise segments on cable television (CNN), the first 24-hour all-fitness television network (FitTV), and the first on-demand fitness television service (ExerciseTV), not to mention a branded fitness empire that has sold over two billion dollars' worth of exercise equipment and counting, helping to get countless people around the world in shape. Now, more than 35 years later, Steinfeld's ahead of the curve album Don't Quit! has been revitalized for the digital age as it makes its streaming debut via Body By Jake Music/UMe, returning to raise heart rates, work muscles and move bodies once again. Featuring hitmakers like Bobby Caldwell, Michael Sembello, and Joseph Williams (Toto), the album has been unavailable since its original LP and cassette release in 1984 on MCA Records.

1983 - April: Zebra “Zebra”

What the Riff?!?

Zebra is one of the great underrated bands of the 80's.  Randy Jackson (lead vocals, guitars, synthesizers, piano), Felix Hanemann (bass, keyboards, backing vocals) and Guy Gelso (percussion, backing vocals) formed Zebra in 1975 in New Orleans before moving to Long Island.  They were originally a cover band, playing rock with a prog rock bent from groups like Led Zeppelin, Yes, and Jethro Tull.  The band took the name Zebra after seeing a Vogue magazine cover featuring a model riding a zebra.  It would be eight years from their founding before this eponymously named album would be their debut.  Zebra the album would become one of the fastest selling debut albums in Atlantic's catalogue, peaking at number 29.  Jackson's high vocals paired with both acoustic and electric guitars, supplemented with synthesizers and special effects would create a commercial success straddling the hard rock and prog rock genres.Unfortunately, their debut album would also be their high water mark.  Zebra would produce a follow-up album which would hit the charts at number 84, then two more which would not chart.  Zebra took a brief hiatus in the early 90's, but the power trio would get back together and are still touring as of this podcast.Rob brings us this album. Who's Behind the DoorThis single hit number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number 10 on the US Rock charts.  The lyrics question death and what may lie beyond.  It starts with an amazing 12-string acoustic riff and ends with an epic space-aged wall of sound.  Jackson's high tenor parts are prominent. When You Get ThereThis deeper cut takes a humorous approach to infidelity and a one-night stand.  “You wake up in the morning and you're not feeling quite the same.  You feel a gentle hand upon you, but you seem to have forgotten her name.”The La-La Song This song goes back many years to their touring days.  It has a distinctive prog rock feel. Tell Me What You WantIn our minds, this opening track from the album is reminiscent of the Alan Parson's Project or Def Leppard.  Its minor key and angst-filled lyrics depict the struggles a boy has with a girl to whom he gives everything and finds it is not enough.  ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Maniac by Michael Sembello (from the motion picture “Flashdance”)This dance movie starring Jennifer Beals hit the screen in 1983. STAFF PICKS:Never Gonna Let You Go by Sergio Mendes Bruce starts off the staff picks with a ballad that Rick Beato calls "the most complex pop song of all time."  Originally written in 1982 by Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann and recorded by Dionne Warwick, there are 7 key changes by the time the chorus is reached.  Sergio Mendes would take this song to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) by Journey  Brian brings us the first single off the "Frontiers" album.  It is a break-up song written by Jonathan Cain and Steve Perry while they were on the road.  It was inspired by band members going through difficult divorces, and was premiered during the "Escape" tour.  The video...well, it leaves something to be desired.Say What You Will  by FastwayWayne rocks out with a one-hit wonder from their debut self-titled album.  Fastway is a heavy metal band from Britain, and band members have connections to Motorhead and UFO.  The name comes from the combination of guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke and bassist Pete Way.  Dave King is on lead, and would move on to the Irish band Flogging Molly.True by Spandau BalletRob's staff pick is a staple of the 80's.  PM Dawn sampled this song, and gave the original a second life.  The lyrics were written as a tribute to Marvin Gaye - "Listen to Marvin all night long.  This is the sound of my soul."  This was the 6th biggest selling single of 1983 and Spandau Ballet's biggest hit. COMEDY TRACK:Intro to Monty Python's The Meaning of LifeThe third Monty Python motion picture “The Meaning of Life” is great just because it had something to offend everyone.

What a Feeling) a Giorgio Moroder, Keith Forsey e Irene Cara Radio Incontri Inblu Cortona.
