Desfilaran en este repaso THE NEON JUDGEMENT, ZOMBIES, LOS COYOTES, DIVINE, SPANDAU BALLET, ULTRAVOX, HUMAN LEAGUE, TALK TALK, DANZA INVISIBLE, OVIFORMIA SCI, KRAFTWERK, TUBEWAY ARMY, TEARS FOR FEARS, SIMPLE MINDS, ANNE CLARK, DAF, DEPECHE MODE, FAD GADGET, AVIADOR DRO, ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, X MAL DEUTSCHLAND, PSYCHEDELIC FURS, THE CULT, SISTERS OF MERCY, GABINETE CALIGARI, ALPHAVILLE, MIDNIGHT OIL, INXS, RHEINGOLD, LIO, LES RITA MITSOUKO, WHEN IN ROME, THEN JERICHO, INVISIBLE LIMITS, FRONT 242, BETTY TROUPE, PULP, KLAUS NOMI y VISAGE.

Comment aurait-on pu imaginer ça ?

Låttitlarna blir i stil med Engulfed in Steel och Drowned in Tar. Brutalt. Välkomna in! From pharaohs' tombs in Ancient Egypt and medieval currency, to priceless royal jewellery and Spandau Ballet songs - gold has been prized for millennia. But it's only really in the last century or so that we've started uncovering its usefulness in less decorative applications.Today, gold is used in masses of electricals; it's also revolutionised part of the manufacturing sector by stopping a dangerous reliance on mercury as a catalyst; and it's vital to space missions. Although there are also some more frivolous modern uses for gold, as Hannah and Dara discover. (Gold-leaf in your cocktail, anyone?)Challenged to find out whether all the world's mined gold would really fit in an Olympic swimming pool, our science-savvy duo discover that this antisocial element might just be the best darn thing on the periodic table... In this episode Steve Norman attempts to cut a long story short but the Spandau Ballet legend is a tale that cannot be abridged. We know this much is true.
Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking!Well, we made it! 100 episodes & still going strong! (Except for a bit of a medical interlude for both of us.) Who'd have thought the views of a pair of opinionated Aussie music fans could have entertained so many for so long? In this episode, we celebrate the artists, music & events we've covered over the last five years. Mick's habit of tapping the table when he gets excited; Jeff's potty-mouth; The origin of the Globite School Bag as a staple of the program. We look at where our listeners live – and how on Earth they find out about us! Revisiting some of your favourite episodes shows how time has proven us right on some of our more strident opinions, such as “Roxy Music peaked in 1973”, and “Warren Zevon is one of the greatest songwriters ever”! To top it all off, the soundtrack for five years of “Mick & The Phatman Talking Music” is awesome. You're going to love it!! See you next year. In this episode we welcome not one but two wonderful guests to RBP Towers. Susan Compo and Derek Ridgers have been trans-Atlantic pals for decades and first met on a FourFourTwo assignment to interview and photograph the L.A.-expats "soccer" team Hollywood United. Starting with Susan's punk years in Southern California, we hear about her memories of seeing the Sex Pistols live in Dallas and Tulsa in January 1978. She also talks about her trip to London the year before, prompting Derek's recall of the punk scene he began photographing at clubs such as Vortex and the Roxy. Derek then rewinds his story to his late '60s days at Ealing School of Art when fellow student Freddie Mercury nicked his girlfriend in a local pub. The conversation oscillates between Susan's reflections on her career move – from music journalism to short stories about star-crossed Goths – and Derek's memories of the New Romantic "movement" he documented so brilliantly in early '80s London. In between clips from John Tobler's 1984 audio interview with Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley, Derek talks about his approach to his chosen medium. After touching on Derek's years at Loaded magazine and Susan's terrific books about Warren Oates and David Bowie, we discuss our shared passion for football/"soccer" before paying tribute to Derek's former NME colleague Jack Barron. Jasper then talks us out with quotes from newly-added library pieces about Grandmaster Flash (2000) and Boy George (2024). Many thanks to special guests Susan Compo and Derek Ridgers. Susan's books, include Malingering and David Bowie and The Man Who Fell To Earth are available from all good bookshops. You can visit Derek's website at derekridgers.com and his latest book, Hello, I Love You, is published by IDEA. Pieces discussed: The Sex Pistols Shoot To The Top, The Cure: Happily Ever After, White Noise/White Sands: The Bowie Who Fell to Earth, Gary Kemp on the RBP podcast, New Romantics, Electro-Disco: Night Moves, Spandau Ballet's Tony Hadley audio, Jack Barron, Nick Cave: The Needle And The Damage Done, The Stone Roses: Bliss This House, Gregory Isaacs: Gregorian Rants, Gong: The Gong Remains The Same, The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash in the Game of Life and Boy George.

Plus, we explore how this catchy hit helped launch Depeche Mode into global stardom. It's misheard lyrics, music history, and a touch of synth-pop nostalgia—all in one 30-minute episode! Writer, filmmaker and co-host of the Box Office GROSS podcast Rob Stammitti joins me from Pittsburgh to begin a miniseries on the UK cult band Prefab Sprout, a critically acclaimed band that sold millions of albums and yet didn't become as huge as they deserved to be. They were hard to categorize, barely toured outside of continental Europe and were somewhat out of step with prevailing trends in popular music in their day and still left behind a fascinating body of work that more people should be aware of.In part one we discuss arriving late to the game in discovering Prefab Sprout and the long shadow Paddy McAloon casts on modern music before returning to the origin story in County Durham, England, their attention-getting early singles and then track-by-track on their 1984 debut LP Swoon (Songs Written Out Of Necessity). McAloon throws down the gauntlet here, combining post-punk with Bacharach and Broadway influences to create a stunning set at odds with the commercial trends of the era, songs about hard-to-express emotions presented in complex arrangements, which also served as a portrait of the artist as a young man and his declaration of intent, which included projecting an insane youthful self-confidence in his own greatness and great scorn for his contemporaries, wanting to be compared to Sondheim, not Spandau Ballet.Along the way we discuss the importance of Wendy Smith's voice, the Steely Dan factor, Paddy's “Shots Fired” diss tracks, and some of our favourite moments from Swoon that we hope will Sproutpill the uninitiated.Follow Rob Stammitti on Bluesky, subscribe to his Substack, visit his YouTube page and listen to his podcast with Brian Schmid, Box Office GROSS.“Side by Side with Sondheim – Swoon and the Great American Musical”, from the Sproutology website, a great resource for the Sproutpilled.Music video for Don't Sing, Prefab Sprout, 1984

Gary Kemp, whose career highlights as a musician and actor include writing Spandau Ballet's seminal hit "True," tells us about about the time David Bowie almost made Gary's son late for a playdate; going on a bender with Duran Duran the night before the 1984 Band Aid recording session: and why he and his old mate, Def Leppard's Joe Elliott, charted different musical paths even though they were fans of the same bands. In this short VIDEO, Gary muses on why Joe Elliott didn't laugh when they watched This Is Spinal Tap together. Might it have hit a little too close to home??? In this episode of My Music, I sit down with singer-songwriter Alan Dreezer to explore his journey through music, influence, and resilience. From supporting Brother Beyond and recording at Abbey Road, to making a limousine entrance that left headliners in a Ford Sierra staring in disbelief, Alan shares the unforgettable highs of his career. We also dive into the deep challenges, including personal tragedy, and how the unshakable pull of songwriting brought him back stronger than ever.Alan talks openly about the influence of George Michael, Spandau Ballet, and 80s icons, the importance of really listening to music in today's fast-paced world, and how nostalgia for record shops and vinyl still fuels his passion. He also reveals how one track called Unknown unexpectedly became a game-changer through a sync deal years after its release. This is a conversation about creativity, loss, resilience, and rediscovering joy through music — plus a reminder of why we should slow down and actually listen.

By his 20s he was working as a sound designer for Akai, Roland Emu/Ensoniq, eventually signing on exclusively with the latter. Later, due to a growing demand for software instruments and libraries, Eddie started to develop libraries for various software manufacturers, including Native Instruments, Kiesel, Sound Effects Library, Arturia and Propellerheads. A meeting with Phil Allen, a Capital Radio DJ, resulted in the company Samplecraze, which Eddie has spent 20 years developing as an educational resource. At this time he trained in music production and soon gained a number of prominent contracts working with some notable artistes such as Busta Rhymes, Greensleeves, 9 Bar, SFP, Sleeveless, Chris Campbell and Gam Productions. He contracted to Island Records and Chrysalis as a producer and remixer, plus was commissioned to write the score for Macbeth that ran at 2 Way Mirror at Alexander Palace for the Cambridge Shakespeare Company. His ongoing development of Samplecraze has led to him offering educational workshops and classes, releasing four books via PC Publishing and becoming a contributor and forum moderator for Sound On Sound. Recently he has established The Audio Production Hub for online education and been invited by the Recording Academy to become a Grammy judge.https://eddiebazil.co.uk/https://samplecraze.com/Catch more shows on our other podcast channels: https://www.soundonsound.com/sos-podcasts

He's also added a new album to his discography, This Destination. The album finds Gary in a reflective mood, looking back on life with his family and band mates.
