Pete Byrne of Naked Eyes was one of the first interviews I did solo for Stuck in the '80s. It was back in 2008 and I had just seen the band perform as part of the Regeneration Tour in Las Vegas. Pete and I had a great chat as he shared stories behind some of the band's biggest hits. Naked Eyes is playing on the 2025 voyage of The 80s Cruise, so it's a good time to revisit this classic interview. It's been 45 years since the Miracle on Ice?!? That's insane. Back in 2010, for the hockey game's 30th anniversary, we did a pretty damn good job honoring one of the greatest upsets in Olympic history. This week on The Metro, Rev. Jeff Ivins brings the 1980s time warp to you with the following bands: Naked Eyes, Bryan Adams, Rubber Rodeo, The Police, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Paul Young, Ian Dury, The Birthday Party, Belle Stars, Lene Lovich, Billy Idol, Go West, Eddie Money, Rank & File, and finishing off with Nick Heyward.
This week on The Metro, Rev Jeff Ivins brings you the time warp to the 1980s with the following bands: The J Geils Band, Suburban Lawns, Sheena Easton, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Musical Youth, Ian Dury, Falco, Bonnie Tyler, Rod Stewart, ABC, Howard Jones, Naked Eyes, Fine Young Cannibals, Phil Collins, and finishing off with Arcadia.
Howard Jones is someone who you may not think you know, but you definitely know his songs. In this episode, we take a deep dive into his music, and you may be surprised at the number of coincidental connections and through-lines within this show, including Aqualung, Martin Page, Peter Gabriel, Tears For Fears, Naked Eyes, and Erasure, and even Donald Fagen. You won't want to miss the playlist for this one. "Say Anything" is the 1989 debut of Cameron Crowe as a writer/director. It is one of the most romantic and beloved movies of the time, and we're quite excited to discuss it, as well as the soundtrack, which is something that we've all come to expect from Mr. Crowe since then, but it started here. This week on The Metro, Rev Jeff Ivins brings you the following bands for your weekly time trip to the 1980s: The Fixx, Ultravox, Thomas Dolby, A Flock Of Seagulls, Berlin, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Alphaville, Naked Eyes, Men Without Hats, Icicle Works, Peter Gabriel, Kajagoogoo, Real Life, Gary Numan, and finishing off with M.
Naked Eyes' 1983 hit "Always Something There To Remind Me" is good but not among our favorites--we'll get into it--but it did open both of us up to a much larger story. We think you'll agree. The Coen Brothers' quirky and hilarious 1987 second movie "Raising Arizona" was way ahead of its time, and was the first in a long string of hits for them, and it set the tone for many of their movies that would follow. Definitely one of the best we've done on this show so far. Is it better than My Dinner With Andre? This week we continue the discussion that we started at the end of our last show; with our admiration of the almighty power of the guitar and the guitar hero! This time around we are going to play guitarists, or guitar passages or leads in songs that caught our ears at some point in our lives that made us truly stop and listen. It's not always about the training, finesse, dexterity, or speed a player has or even the style of music or song that is being played. If you are into guitar and the sound of strings being plucked and bent then you know… It's just something you feel deep down that gets to your heart and soul! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all three.
