Alexander Broadcaster: Grace Covenant Baptist Church Event: Sunday Service Date: 5/26/2024 Bible: Acts 19:1-20 Length: 66 min.
On today's Friday Field Notes, Ashley offers a critical examination on how we define authority as Christians. Who has authority over our lives? How do they exercise that authority? Is authority that is demanding and forceful God's will? This episode is another episode in her series on sexual theology, unpacking Carter Heyward's ground breaking book "Touching Our Strength: Erotic as Power and the Love of God." Message for 03/17/2024 "Jesus Has Real Authority" by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted.* Day by day, dear Lord, of thee three things I pray; to see thee more clearly, to love thee more dearly, to follow thee more nearly, day by day - Richard of Chichester Hebrews 1:3a - The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God Matthew 7:28-29 - When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law. Matthew 8:1-27 - Large crowds followed Jesus as he came down the mountainside. 2 Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.” 3 Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared. 4 Then Jesus said to him, “Don't tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.” 5 When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, 6 “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.” 7 Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. 9 I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,' and they go, or ‘Come,' and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,' they do it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven't seen faith like this in all Israel! 11 And I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world—from east and west—and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of Heaven. 12 But many Israelites—those for whom the Kingdom was prepared—will be thrown into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour. 14 When Jesus arrived at Peter's house, Peter's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. 15 But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him. 16 That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick. 17 This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.” 18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he instructed his disciples to cross to the other side of the lake. 19 Then one of the teachers of religious law said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” 21 Another of his disciples said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus told him, “Follow me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead.” 23 Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. 24 Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We're going to drown!” 26 Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!”Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. 27 The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” Matthew 5:41 NIV - If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Matthew 5:41 NLT - If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles. Authority + Wisdom John 7:45-46 - When the Temple guards returned without having arrested Jesus, the leading priests and Pharisees demanded, “Why didn't you bring him in?” 46 “We have never heard anyone speak like this!” the guards responded. Authority + Love Matthew 8:1-3 - Large crowds followed Jesus as he came down the mountainside. Authority + Integrity Matthew 8:19-20 - Then one of the teachers of religious law said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” Matthew 4:3 - During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” Authority + Power Matthew 8:23-27 - Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” Luke 22:42 - “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

Following the world´s bleakest hour, a fog lifted and a dream emerged from the thick mist; a vision of the greatest heavy metal band post covid. Johann Saul (vocals and guitar) enlisted the help of longtime friend Salaryman Ben (drums), both ex-members of Weathered Hands and Real Authority, by manifesting in his nightmares Freddy Kruger style. Reluctant yet convinced, Ben agreed to sit behind the kit for fear of his own demise. The first offering from your new favourite heavy metal militia, ´DO YOU WANT TO DANCE (WITH A WANTED MAN)?´, is written as a serial killer´s response to hybristophilia - an attraction to those who commit crime and murder. The band´s 5-track self-titled debut EP, out 30th June, should be considered a manifesto, taking its form in pummelling guitar riffs, powerful mid-tempo grooves and maniacal lyricism that paints devilishly macabre, yet tongue-in-cheek imagery. Uncompromising in the pursuit of melody and technical ability - frenetic guitar solos and catchy vocal hooks can be found on every track. No heavy music fan is left alienated as the band effortlessly moves through influences such as Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Type O Negative, Faith No More, Ozzy Osbourne, Alice In Chains, Cancer Bats, and Turnstile. A listening experience that hits you like an axe to the brain.
Blogtalkradio Sunday, 5-21-23, 5 p.m. CST If we follow Christ, we Israelites don't have to wait for the kingdom hopelessly. We are not abandoned while on earth, left to figure it out on our own. No, we don't have to be far from Yah's presence; we can and should live in the fullness of joy of being in his presence. The Holy Spirit was sent to address all these serious needs; he is the comforter. One of the main reasons he was sent was to give us power over all enemies. DO YOU BELIEVE IT? Jesus' teaching had REAL AUTHORITY. The crowd that heard the Sermon on the Mount was ASTONISHED at His teaching. It was different than the teaching of the religious leaders. Jesus' teaching could and should change your life. If you came to believe in Him.While Joel and Ryan discuss some truths that keeps impacting them from Jesus' Sermon, we still will love to keep looking back to the Sermon, memorizing some of it, so that we can keep and applying its main points. Many storms pound our lives, like the storm that hit the two homes in the end of the sermon. The key to staying strong and standing, according to Jesus, is by faith as someone in His Kingdom APPLYING HIS TRUTH to our lives. So how well do you know the Sermon on the Mount? How well are you doing at APPLYING its truths with your brothers and sisters in the church? What steps could we take together to DO what is TRUE according to Jesus? Let's keep doing these things TOGETHER!
"It's that realness that also powers the covenants I've made, and I can't go against them. And so I must stay, and I must be committed, and I must share this with other people, because I feel that it's real... and it produced things that I could not have produced on my own. That must have come from God." Do we see our opportunities to be like Christ? Does the Sacrament anchor you each week? How to you acknowledge that the covenants you've made with God are real and binding? Katie relates her experience being a lawyer and an advocate for people who are despised and looked down upon and what that teaches her about Christ, how repentance and the sacrament are anchors in her life, and that God will lead us along if we are meek and have trust in our Savior. Pastor David Menzel’s text came from Luke 7. The events in this chapter point to someone who, unlike the church leaders of the day, recognized that Jesus had authority to heal, and if Jesus wanted to hear it would happen. That event is recorded for all of us to challenge us: do we really live … Continue reading Real Authority Recognized →

Reading from The Gospel According Mark 1:21-28 (NLT) ~Jesus Casts Out an Evil Spirit~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. Access to walk in the authority of Christ is only by surrender to Christ, its not about you. Jesus message of Good news spoken in authority. Sometimes people do not receive or recognize the power and authority of God, the enemy uses that as a tactic against people. Identity, power, and authority is found in surrender to God in the name of Jesus.
To a people left in the dark by their sin and the sin of others - Jesus has come not to conduct a legal inquiry to assign blame and to prove who is right and who is wrong. Jesus has come - jumping into the dead of night and layed down His life to save life, to redeem and restore life! This is Authority gives life and freedom
Don't allow your inner voice to be muffled
Sometimes, the Jesus in our minds isn’t the Jesus of the Gospel. Meet the real Jesus, a man of authority and strength. When you follow Him, you serve a strong king who has spoken with authority and conquered darkness and sickness. Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Why are facts disappearing? Why are voices being silenced? Why are people losing their freedoms? After listening to this podcast you too will begin to ask “WHY”. On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast from (03/10/20), Hank discusses in the second segment the claim made by many world religions that their holy book is the real authority. Muslims point to the Qur'an as the real authority and Mormons likewise are certain that the Book of Mormon is “the most correct of any book on earth” and "the keystone" to their religion. But neither book holds up to scrutiny. Hank points out the faulty ethics and factual errors in the Qur'an and lacking archeological and anthropologic evidence for claims made by the Book of Mormon. Despite the deficiencies of their own sacred texts, Muslims and Mormons brashly denigrate the Bible as a crooked stick that cannot be trusted. So Hank gives four quick points to show the trustworthiness of the Bible. Hank also answers the following questions: Why are some verses missing or labeled in footnotes like John 5:4?Was the punishment for adultery always death in the Old Testament? What was the penalty for giving false testimony?

Jesus had authority to lay down His life and take it up again. A reality He accepted by faith in His Father. That’s faith in action, that’s real authority. Luke 5:17-26 (Nigel Parker)
The Elders of the Temple asked Jesus, -By whose authority do you speak-- Jesus replied to their question with a question.
How authoritative is your authority? When man sinfully kicks God off the throne of his life, he soon realizes that he needs a replacement authority. While our nation fumbles around, hopelessly looking for some compelling substitutionary authority for God, Christians have an opportunity to re-introduce the beauty and majesty of God’s true authority, expressed personally in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Today, Pastor Greg Byman focused on Matthew 8:5-13 as he preached through “Real Authority,” at St Joe Community Church on Sunday, October 7, 2018. About St Joe Community Church St Joe is located at 2900 North Anthony Blvd., just a few blocks south of the campus of Purdue University at Fort Wayne. Pastor Greg Byman serves as the senior pastor and the entire St Joe church family welcomes you to join us for worship service each Sunday at 10:00 am. All authority has been given to Christ as King, and He has commissioned us as ambassadors to go and teach the nations all He has commanded, we must also ask ourselves how do we do this? Is it by command? Or by persuasion?
