My guest is Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Champion Wide Receiver Ricardo Lockette. An Olympic quality sprinter. Ricardo holds the third-fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine at 4.37 seconds. He is a great example of how perseverance can take you a long way. An undrafted free agent in 2011 with the Seahawks. He was cut by three teams, but he continued forward catching on a second time with the Seahawks. Ricardo contributed to two Super Bowl appearances, including a dominant victory in Super Bowl XLVIII over the Denver Broncos. But what makes this guy special is his commitment to his core values: Faith, Family, and Football, and love for the next generation of kids. Enjoy my conversation with Ricardo Lockette. It's a show filled with interviews! Brandan and Adam are joined by Earl Lockette who talks about his son Ricardo and his announcement to retire from football. Being a guy who coached his son in football, and considering Lockette was the best "gunner" in the game, we try and get to the bottom of where that term comes from. Last week we talked draft, and this week we get the added perspective from Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog. Plus, we give him some credit for correctly predicting the Seahawks first pick. Rob helps explain why the Seahawks saw a need for drafting three running backs and the special qualities each one provides. For Seahawks fans within traveling distance to Seattle, this weekend has two big events to help you through your football withdrawals. Saturday, May 21, is the Sea Hawkers Annual Banquet and Paul Beyer talks about the current and former players invited to attend. Norb Caoili (NorbCam) and Mark Collins (Save Our Seahawks) come on to talk about Hawk Fest 2016 on Sunday, May 22, 1-5pm at the Ballard Elks Lodge. We wrap up with the show with an email contradicting Adam's view of the draft, Pro Football Focus and the L.A. Rams need to "do better," and a 15-year-old Canadian along with Ricardo Lockette are this week's "better at life" nominees. iTunes | Google Play Music | Stitcher | TuneIn | Facebook | Twitter | RSS Or listen via our free Amazon app, Android app, or iOS app Call or text: 253-235-9041 Email: gohawks@seahawkerspodcast.com Visit Patreon.com if you'd like to help support the show and get bonus episodes Find Sea Hawkers clubs around the world at SeaHawkers.org Music from the show by The 12 Train, download each track at ReverbNation
The Seahawks are 4-4 and coming out of their bye week into the second half of the season. A listener from Hawaii emails in to say that this team winning close games is the one we've loved watching over the last few years. The performance over the first half of the season shouldn't be that unexpected. Next, Adam introduces a new moniker to motivate the offensive line for the second half of the season, as they'll be known as the 'ole line' until things improve. The guys preview the matchup against the Cardinals and similar to last year, the Seahawks provide a tough matchup for a Cardinals team that likes to take shots down the field. Brandan and Adam key in on the running game being a key part of both team's success and the defensive line for the Seahawks could have a great opportunity to attack a Cardinals offensive line that has struggled particularly on the right side. Listener and Patreon donor Ross Wilwerding joins the show to provide some of his thoughts on the matchup. In the second half of the show, we get into some of the emails that came in over the bye week. One listener makes a call to action over beer prohibition at arbitrary times of the day. Adam the curmudgeon makes an appearance with his disgust over televisions showing up in random spots, while Brandan is too disgusted to talk about Greg Hardy, so he directs his disgust toward Matt Cassel's mustache. Better at life nods go to a pair of Oklahoma quarterbacks in the NFL and Ricardo Lockette. iTunes | Stitcher | TuneIn | Facebook | Twitter | RSS Call or text: 253-235-9041Email: gohawks@seahawkerspodcast.comSupport us via PatreonDownload our free Amazon app, Android app, or iOS app Find Sea Hawkers clubs around the world at SeaHawkers.orgMusic from the show by The 12 Train, download each track at ReverbNation Join the Sea Hawkers Podcast Pick 'em league on NFL.com.
One more point than the other team is what it takes to win, and that's exactly what the Seahawks do with their 13-12 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Takeaways from this game include another great performance by the defense, an underwhelming performance in the red zone for the offense and continued wishes that Ricardo Lockette recovers from the devastating hit he took right before halftime. Something that we've missed to this point in the season was Russell Wilson coming through in the clutch in the fourth quarter and that was something he delivered this week. Sure a touchdown would have been nice, but thanks to the defense it was all they needed to get in that final minute following a scoring drive that took a lot of time off the clock. With a bye next week, the guys rejoice in the fact that Seattle is heading into the bye week at 4-4 and in control of their destiny in terms of reclaiming the NFC West title. Do better nods go out to the local area Adam is currently visiting and the announcers for poorly handling a sensitive moment when Lockette was injured on the field. Marshawn Lynch has another Better at Life worthy act and Brandan gives a shout out to TD for producing one of the NFL's newest podcasts with former Seahawks Michael Robinson and Nate Burleson. iTunes | Stitcher | TuneIn | Facebook | Twitter | RSS Call or text: 253-235-9041Email: gohawks@seahawkerspodcast.comSupport us via PatreonDownload our free Amazon app, Android app, or iOS app Find Sea Hawkers clubs around the world at SeaHawkers.orgMusic from the show by The 12 Train, download each track at ReverbNation
The release of the 2014 Seahawks Schedule motivates Brandan and Adam to get together after a month hiatus to talk Hawks. The guys give their initial reactions to the schedule and look ahead to some of the biggest matchups. It's not long before the guys the bored with schedule talk and begin to discuss the trade for Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor and the re-signing of Sidney Rice. An email prompts a discussion on Marcus Trufant's retirement announcement and the reports that Richard Sherman could be looking at a long-term contract soon. With the NFL Draft coming up, Adam wants to get his opinion on the record that Johnny Manziel will be a bust of Ryan Leaf proportions. Brandan offers up ways to enjoy the NFL Draft between the Seahawks selections by listening carefully to how analysts talk about the next flock of stars the draft will appear to be littered with. Gene Hushak, Sea Hawkers Central Council President drops in for his first appearance on the show to talk about upcoming Sea Hawkers events. The do better segment features a man trying to sue the Seahawks for $50 million for being excluded from the NFC Championship ticket sales and his attempt to visit "Quest Stadium." Adam takes a shot at TMZ for their coverage of the "suspicious incident" Colin Kaepernick and Ricardo Lockette were involved in. Finally, Better at Life features Sidney Rice and the conditions surrounding his return to the team and an anonymous 12 who saved a life during a 12k run near the Seahawks practice facility.
