On the 55th episode of “Great Dane Nation,” Morten is joined by Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist and coaching legend Dick Vermeil (06:54 – 01:04:17). But first, he checks in with TommyFreezePops (Tom Carroll) for this week's edition of the “Opening Kick” (01:06 – 06:54). Morten reacts to an epic game between the Chiefs and Ravens from this past weekend, and explains why he thinks Lamar Jackson is the MVP of the league through two weeks of the season. We then move to our interview with Dick Vermeil, where he discusses a wide range of topics: his involvement in the wine business, and the history behind his company, “Vermeil Wines” (07:41); his coaching style, and the difference between delegating and designating (13:53); Morten having teammates on the Chiefs that weren't born when he started playing (15:49); knowing when to release a player, and remaining close with many players he has cut (16:46); being the first official special teams coach in NFL history (18:12); taking over an Eagles franchise in the late 1970s that was a losing program, and what it took to turn them into NFC Champions (19:38); why the NFL needs to do a better job helping its former players with medical assistance as they get older (24:04); the amazing story of Vince Papale making the team in Philly (24:46); a review of “American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story” (26:18); his love for underdogs, and why London Fletcher should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame (27:05); what a Gold Jacket would mean to him (27:44); why Tom Flores getting inducted helped clear the way for Dick, and the various high-profile coaches stumping for him as a candidate (29:12); the hilarious story of David Baker's phone call to let Dick know he was a finalist (30:43); reminiscing about the late, great Frank Gansz Sr. (31:58); why he stepped away from coaching after winning the Super Bowl with a historically great St. Louis Rams team in 1999 (36:59); why he came out of retirement to coach the Chiefs in the early 2000s (38:48); working his players so hard in St. Louis, there was almost a “mutiny,” and why things were different in Kansas City (40:15); why Patrick Mahomes could go down as the finest quarterback to ever play in the NFL (42:45); the state of the Rams, his relationship with Sean McVay, and why Matthew Stafford will be great in L.A. (44:13); why he doesn't think Doug Pederson should've been fired in Philadelphia (47:03); and this week's edition of “The Name Game,” featuring Kurt Warner, Ron Jaworski, Trent Green, Marshall Faulk, Tony Gonzalez, Jared Allen, Harold Carmichael and Will Shields (48:45).Then we move to this week's edition of “Morten's Fast 5,” where our Hall of Famer makes picks for the five biggest games of the football weekend (01:05:13 – 01:12:08). Morten gives his picks for Buccaneers at Rams (01:05:51), Saints at Patriots (01:07:05), Packers at 49ers (01:08:36), Chargers at Chiefs (01:09:33), and Washington Football Team at Bills (01:10:49).Finally, “Morten's Game Winner” returns – a weekly monologue from The Great Dane on his biggest takeaway of the week. This week, Morten reflects on his relationship with Coach Vermeil, and explains why he's had a profound impact on every single one of his former players (01:12:08).

Readyforthedraft.com's Gregg Schutze shares his passion for the NFL draft and takes you on a journey leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft. Through the years, from John Randle to London Fletcher to Wayne Chrebet and Wes Welker, the league has been impacted by players who went undrafted. Just a season ago James Robinson, who finished with over 4,000 career rushing yards while at Illinois State, went on to be Jacksonville's unquestioned starting RB after going undrafted in the 2020 draft. In the third installment of the post-draft edition of the Ready for the Draft podcast. Gregg takes a look at the undrafted free agents for all 32 teams and gives his thoughts on which UDFA's have a shot to make a roster. Gregg also reviews his "By the Numbers" segment where he tried to predict the number of players drafted in each round by position based on the historical data of the last five drafts. Do the numbers help predict the outcome? Gregg also took it a step further and tried to plug players in each round as well.

We’re at the time of the year when it can feel like watching football is something that both at arm's length in the somewhat distant future, and that has only happened in a distant memory. The post-Super Bowl-pre-combine period is when truly the hungriest of NFL fans feast for the game by eating pro-day tape. Here though, on the Cult Of Colt, we’re learning our strengths and know our weaknesses well, and for us to endeavor to break down Jay Tufele’s 40-yard dash technique or what Bill Belichick’s feelings on Mac Jones’ deep ball might be, well, we’ll leave that to those who claim to be the experts. No, here on the Cult Of Colt, we’re not going to attempt to be something that we simply aren’t. Rather, we’re here to share our feelings, thoughts, and enthusiasm for the things that have the most meaning to us, and sometimes that means firing up the ol’ Throwback Machine and talking about the past. On this edition of the Cult Of Colt, we begin a new yet unnamed retrospective looking back at some of our favorite games, moments, and events from Washington Football Teams of yore, starting with what is the highpoint of my WFT-fandom (and the high-water mark for many of my generation): the 2012 Week 17 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. While this contest happened just a little under a decade ago, re-watching it was akin to popping an old family home movie back in the VCR and letting the feels roll in again. For those who can’t quite put themselves in the headspace: this game was as big as it got. Washington was riding high, winners of five straight after starting the season 3-6, and had the opportunity to face their heated division rival for a chance to clinch the NFC East for the first time since 1999. Gracing the roster was a mix of well-established veterans like Santana Moss, Deangelo Hall, and London Fletcher; but what felt most exciting was the youth and high-ceiling talent from Robert Griffin III, Alfred Morris, Trent Williams, Ryan Kerrigan, and Perry Riley. In addition, two-time Super Bowl winner Mike Shanahan patrolled the sidelines surrounded by his own crop of up-and-comers including Offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan; QB coach Matt LaFleur, tight ends coach Sean McVay, and DBs coach Raheem Morris. The good guys won, the bad guys lost, and the celebration was well-earned. ...and then... And then we truly learned some hard lessons about the fleeting nature of success. The chewed-up field ate Griffin’s knee the next week, the wheels fell off, the young stars left town or didn’t pan out, and the promising coaches in the in-house coaching tree left to make their mark elsewhere. Perhaps it’s masochistic to continue to dwell on what was and what might have been, but isn’t that what being a fan is all about? After our time in the memory vault, Gumbi and I jump back to modern times and discuss the news of the day: no, not Kyle Pitts’ cone drills, but the always-inevitable announcement finally made official by the NFL that the regular season is going to be expanded to seventeen games. While one might believe that more football = more fun, we think there’s a lack of feng shui that is going to take some getting used to. In retrospect, how do you remember the 2012 season in Washington? Share your thoughts on some other games that we can re-watch and share our thoughts by commenting or tweeting us @TheColtofColt. AGAIN. And if you didn't watch the game, the scoreline could trick you into thinking that this was a competitive game of football. Let's be clear. It wasn't. The Redskins fell into a 28-0 hole in the first half, and the entire second half of the game was basically garbage time. And on a night that saw the coaching staff get embarrassed, the players get their asses kicked, and the fans get emotionally abused, you'd think that at least something as simple as honoring a past player like London Fletcher at half-time would be a respite from the shit-show? WELL YOU'RE WRONG, BECAUSE THE REDSKINS MIS-SPELLED HIS NAME ON THE FEDEX FIELD BIG SCREENS.

It's a really interesting series that we discussed when it first aired with PSE Supervising Producer Michelle Girardi Zumwalt (feel free to revisit that interview). We spend a lot of time going in-depth into specific scenes, things that grabbed us, things that we wished were different, and our overall thoughts on the series. What are your thoughts? In this episode, we discuss Buffalo Bills: Embedded - Season 2 which is a Pegula Sports and Entertainment produced in-depth series that gives fans behind the scenes access to the players they love (Josh Allen, Tre'Davious White, Micah Hyde, Kyle Williams, etc.) and access to the mindset of the Front Office and coaching staff during Free Agency, the Scouting Combine, the Draft, and much more. Before we get fully embedded into the podcast, we give a few Training Camp notes from this past week to catch listeners up on what's happening for the Bills this past week including Mitch Morse's concussion and Josh Allen getting asked to prom by a fan. JP Finlay, Mitch Tischler and Brian Mitchell survived their first night in Atlanta and had another successful live broadcast from the Super Bowl, which you can hear right here. Things get started right off the top, as Chris Cooley and Clinton Portis hop on to break down Kevin O'Connell's promotion to offensive coordinator. Lots of you were asking for an emergency podcast on this topic, so you'll enjoy that segment. They also touch on Jim Tomsula's return, which of course Mitch is loving. In the middle of the action, the hosts — at this point joined by Michael Phillips — look back on the Alex Smith trade since Wednesday was the one-year anniversary before tossing to a fun interview with the great London Fletcher (44:22) . Eventually, Pete hops on for more trivia, bringing some quality questions and some other questions that JP hates. And finally, the guys rate all of the fan pictures they've gotten of people streaming the show so far before you hear former NFL RB Jamal Lewis break down the 'Skins backfield (1:01:27). If you like podcasts where there's a ton of 1-10 scales and Mitch botches the spelling of Ndamukong, then this is the episode for you.
