GDP Script/ Top Stories for Jan 28th Publish Date: Jan 26th From the Drake Realty Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Sunday, January 28th and Happy 49th Birthday to MLB player Jermaine Dye. ***01.28.24 – BIRTHDAY – JERMAIN DYE*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett County Public Schools. Gwinnett Schools Face Security Breach as Thirty-Seven Cars are Vandalized on Tuesday Gwinnett Commissioners Request Reevaluation of Mulberry Cityhood Proposal from Legislators Research Reveals Long-term Developmental Impact of Premature Birth on Children's Lives All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: GCPS STORY 1: Thirty-seven Cars Were Broken Into at Gwinnett Schools Tuesday. Here's What We Know. Gwinnett County Public Schools Police are investigating a series of car break-ins at Archer High School, Trip Elementary School, and Brookwood Elementary School. A total of 37 cars were unlawfully entered or broken into within an hour and a half. The incidents involved theft of personal items, including electronics, driver's licenses, credit cards, and purses. The police are reviewing security camera footage and collaborating with local and state law enforcement agencies to determine any patterns. Although the thieves encountered various levels of vehicle security, the police emphasize the importance of securing valuables, locking car doors, and reporting suspicious activity. The investigation is ongoing. Chief Tony Lockard urges reporting at 770-513-6715 or via the GCPS Tips app. STORY 2: Gwinnett Commissioners Urge Legislators To Reconsider Mulberry Cityhood Proposal Gwinnett County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution urging state legislators to carefully consider the implications of creating the proposed city of Mulberry in the northeastern part of the county. State Rep. Chuck Efstration introduced legislation for a referendum on Mulberry's incorporation, responding to concerns about a 700-unit apartment development. County officials emphasize the current service delivery model's efficiency and comprehensive nature. The commissioners argue that Mulberry's structure, relying on Gwinnett for services like police and fire protection, may negatively impact the proposed city, the existing 16 cities, and Gwinnett as a whole. A fact sheet outlining concerns has been sent to Gwinnett legislators. STORY 3: Premature birth can affect children's development in later life: study A new 13-year study, following over a million births, reveals that children born moderately (32-33 weeks) or late preterm (34-36 weeks) face higher long-term risks of neurodevelopmental difficulties. These difficulties include conditions like epilepsy, autism, ADHD, and cerebral palsy. The study emphasizes that children born in these windows constitute 80% of all preterm births, and the risks should not be underestimated. The research, published in The BMJ, examined 1,281,690 children born in Sweden between 1998 and 2012, concluding that compared to full-term births, those born moderately or late preterm showed higher risks for various neurodevelopmental impairments. Break 2: TOM WAGES STORY 4: Kanekoa Texeira Tabbed as New Gwinnett Stripers Manager The Atlanta Braves have announced their minor league coaching staffs for the 2024 season. Kanekoa Texeira, a former G-Braves pitcher, will manage the Gwinnett Stripers, joined by pitching coaches Kevin McAvoy and Mike McCarthy, hitting coach Dan DeMent, and coach Wigberto Nevarez. Texeira, the eighth Gwinnett manager, has prior coaching experience and managed High-A Rome and Double-A Mississippi. McAvoy, returning to Gwinnett, served as the Stripers' interim pitching coach in 2022. McCarthy joins from the Oakland Athletics as the bullpen coach. DeMent, with 15 years in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, becomes the hitting coach, and Nevarez continues as coach for Gwinnett. The staff also includes strength and conditioning coach Tyler Enns and athletic trainers Greg Harrel and Joel Wiggins. Gwinnett Stripers' Opening Night is on April 2 against Louisville. STORY 5: Georgia Begins Work on Sanford Stadium Hedges The University of Georgia's football team is revitalizing the iconic hedges around Sanford Stadium, known as "Between the Hedges," a tradition since the stadium's dedication in 1929. The current hedges, installed during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, are reaching the end of their typical lifespan. The university has been growing replacement hedges, and the Athletic Association will start proactive revitalization work in February. This project involves full soil replacement, irrigation, drainage work, and replanting with the same lineage of hedges that have been part of the Georgia sidelines for 95 years. The revitalization is set to be completed by the 2024 G-Day Game. We'll be back in a moment. Break 3: INGLES 2 STORY 6: Atlanta Falcons Announce Raheem Morris as Head Coach The Atlanta Falcons have appointed Raheem Morris as their new head coach. Morris, who spent the last three seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, takes over as the 19th head coach in Falcons history. In addition, Terry Fontenot will continue as the general manager, reporting directly to team owner Arthur M. Blank on football matters. Rich McKay remains the CEO of AMB Sports and Entertainment but will no longer be involved in day-to-day football operations. Morris brings 26 years of NFL experience and recently helped the Rams secure a Super Bowl title. His tenure officially begins as the head coach for the 2024 season. STORY 7: Kenneth Eugene Smith executed by nitrogen gas in Alabama for 1988 murder-for-hire scheme Kenneth Eugene Smith was executed in Alabama for the 1988 murder-for-hire of Elizabeth Sennett, marking the first-ever use of nitrogen gas for execution. The process began at 7:56 p.m., and Smith was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m. He made a final statement through a mask, expressing love and peace. Smith's execution was initially halted in November 2022 due to a failed lethal injection attempt. The U.S. Supreme Court rejected appeals arguing that the nitrogen gas method violated the Eighth Amendment. Smith's role in the murder-for-hire was linked to the death of Elizabeth Sennett in 1988. We'll have final thoughts after this. Break 4: ESOG Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post podcast. The Atlanta Falcons have found their man in former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, reuniting with the team's former interim head coach three years later. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why Morris is an ideal candidate given his knowledge of scheme and play-calling along with his ability to connect with players. He breaks down why the Falcons circled back to Morris three years later, and why 2021 wasn't the right time for the Falcons to promote Morris given what their perceived issues were back then. He also addresses the cynicism that this hire was mostly about Rich McKay and Terry Fontenot keeping their jobs, and discusses why the Falcons decision-makers should want to preserve the status quo. Finally, he looks ahead to unanswered questions about the future at quarterback and speculates on some assistant coaches that Morris could lure to Atlanta. We talked about all the reasons why people are rooting against the Chiefs now. Mahomes in the quarterback documentary and the Kelce brothers. People are sick of them. Gio played paddle tennis. He didn't know it was played outside. A caller said the Kelce brothers are attention whores. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with the Bills going wide right again. It would have tied the game late. Josh Allen said losing sucks. The Lions beat the Bucs and Dan Campbell is impressed they are one of the last 4 teams standing. CBS host Katie Mox had her undergarments taken at the airport. Gio imagines if Adam Schein is the one who stole them. In the final segment of the show, the Atlanta Falcons head coaching job appears to be wide open as they have interviewed a ton of guys including Bill Belichick and John Harbaugh. Boomer said he believes Belichick is going to Atlanta, they first have to work out who will be doing what jobs in the front office. How would Belichick and Rich McKay get along? It's an interesting dynamic. Brian Flores hasn't gotten a single interview and it must be because of the lawsuit he has against the NFL.
Boomer thinks Bill Belichick will get the job in Atlanta, but his relationship with Rich McKay will be an interesting dynamic.
Hour 1 The biggest talk on social media last night was Boomer's pinstripe suit. Boomer thinks that from a matchup perspective, we have the best game in Chiefs vs Ravens. This was another heartbreaker for the Bills, not only losing to the Chiefs again, but missing a key FG wide right. We had another situation involving a fumble going out of the endzone, resulting in a turnover for the Chiefs instead of a TD. Gio wonders how you bet against Patrick Mahomes at this point, but Boomer said the Ravens have been ‘kicking everybody's asses'. Steff Diggs is most likely done in Buffalo and won't be back next season. Something has been off with him and the Bills. Jerry is here for his first update of the day but Gio said if the sports gods were real, Damar Hamlin would have got the first down on the fake punt. Jerry has audio of the Bills missing a FB, wide right. We also heard from Patrick Mahomes after the win. Josh Allen said losing sucks. Earlier in the day the Lions beat the Bucs to go to the NFC Championship game for the first time in 32 years. Baker Mayfield said he felt like his heart was ripped out. Shannon Sharpe talked about CeeDee Lamb's mom posting that she wants Dak Prescott out. Micah Parson's brother wants him out of Dallas and Dak Prescott's brother wants him out. In the final segment of the hour, both coaches made boneheaded moves at the end of Bucs/Lions. In the Packers/Niners game, Deebo Samuel was injured and we didn't get any real information about his injury. Hour 2 Patrick Mahomes Sr seemed to be annoyed by Taylor Swift and her friends in the box. Jason Kelce was all lit up and Gio said he had ‘the agility of a gorilla', jumping in and out of the box and into the stands. There are rumors of Andy Reid possibly retiring after the season. We also talked about Bob Golic taking some type of horse medicine that gave him horse breath and he would sack Boomer and breathe in his face. Jerry returns for an update but first we talked more about Boomer's pin striped suit causing a ‘zoot suit riot'. Jerry started with the Chiefs beating the Bills. With less than 2 minutes to play, the Bills missed a FG wide right. Again. Josh Allen doesn't want you to blame the loss on the kicker. Jerry also has the sounds from the Lions beating the Bucs 31-23. Jerry went around the NHL for the locals last night. The Islanders fired their head coach and brought in Patrick Roy. In the final segment of the hour, as Jordan Love was playing well in the first half, Aaron Rodgers hit a hole in one. Boomer said the Packers and Texans are going to be really good for the next few years. Antonio Pierce is now the official Head Coach of the Raiders. Boomer wonders why Jerry Reese hasn't been hired as a GM somewhere since leaving the Giants. He won two Super Bowls. Gio feels Boomer is being very aggressive this morning, even when Gio is agreeing with him. Hour 3 This has been Lamar Jackson's season as he's going to win the MVP. Boomer said Lamar and Josh Allen will go and get first downs when they need to. Gio said he can't pick against Mahomes anymore. Boomer said right now the Ravens have the best team. They are loaded on both offense and defense. Boomer wonders if the Browns want Baker Mayfield back. Jerry returns for an update but first we talked more about Boomer fresh pinstripe suit. Jerry started with the deep pass late in the game that went through Stefon Diggs' hands. We also heard Lions radio on the Baker Mayfield interception late in the game. Jerry went around the NHL for the locals and Patrick Roy is the new head coach of the Islanders. In the final segment of the hour, a caller wonders what we thought about Travis Kelce doing the heart symbol up to Taylor Swift after scoring a TD. Hour 4 We talked about all the reasons why people are rooting against the Chiefs now. Mahomes in the quarterback documentary and the Kelce brothers. People are sick of them. Gio played paddle tennis. He didn't know it was played outside. A caller said the Kelce brothers are attention whores. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with the Bills going wide right again. The Atlanta Falcons continue their search for their next head coach while former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is poised for his second in-person interview with the team this weekend. Host Aaron Freeman wonders why the Falcons are so eager to go after him before speaking to other top candidates like Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik, and Raheem Morris. He also discusses why despite defending the decisions of Falcons owner Arthur Blank and president Rich McKay in recent days, he can't any longer if they've settled on Belichick.Later, he looks at why he thinks Belichick isn't the answer to solve the main issues that have held back the Falcons' last two coaches in Dan Quinn and Arthur Smith. He looks at quarterback development, play-calling, and roster management and how Belichick did an even poorer job fixing those same issues in recent years in New England. Finally, he looks at the potential quarterback options the Falcons could be looking at this offseason and whether drafting a player or signing a veteran is the best move.Part of the @LockedonATLFollow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

92.9 The Game Atlanta Falcons Reporter Joe Patrick talks about the Falcons plans to interview Bill Belichick for a second time, if there is a chance that Bill Belichick could turn them down, what the Falcons will look to find out by interviewing Belichick a second time with more people in the room, Bill Belichick's pre-existing relationship with Rich McKay, and if people have become more accepting of the idea of Belichick as Falcons head coach,
The Atlanta Falcons completed virtual interviews of Mike McDonald, Brian Callahan, Steve Wilks, Ejiro Evero and Anthony Weaver. On this special edition of the Atlanta Football Party, Jarvis Davis and Aaron Freeman talked about the most intriguing candidate out of that first group. Secondly, with so many conversations about who the Falcons will hire as their next head coach, the guys discussed what the mindset should be when it comes to who will be under center for this team. Jarvis and Aaron talked about what they've heard so far from Rich McKay and Arthur Blank being the main reason why it is hard to get excited about anything regarding this organization's future. Lastly, they wrapped things up talking about the Falcons requesting to interview Antonio Pierce for their head coaching spot. Also, Jarvis gave his dream speech for the Falcons. #atlantafalcons #nfl #riseup Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Atlanta Falcons are looking for a new head coach but general manager Terry Fontenot seems to be taking a back seat. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why he believes Fontenot shouldn't be the point man compared to owner Arthur Blank and president Rich McKay by looking at how other NFL organizations are structured. Later, he discusses why the Falcons seem to constantly come up short under Blank and McKay's leadership and whether they're at fault for it. Then, he looks at whether the bets on quarterback Desmond Ridder and the run game were the biggest factors in the downfall of head coach Arthur Smith.
