Richard Petrie 6 Points Podcast "The 6 most costly mistakes designers make that stop them winning great projects and earning high fees"https://archmarketing.org/9-steps-webinar-replayToday's tip relates to Module 6 on the LCC. Key point: Are you getting paid for pre-design research? With the Low Commitment Consultation, you can systematically win clients before they hire an architect (eliminating all possible competition).Real World Example: Graham Irwin is the Principal of Essential Habitat Architecture based in California.Graham shares his pleasant surprise about selling his LCC. ‘Just had the 2nd client sign up for an LCC, aka “Project Planning Service.” Frankly, he seemed like he might be cheap, though he and his wife do want to do a renovation badly, so I was expecting he'd be scared off. ‘Instead, he got back to me and asked about the difference in the tiers of service. I really enjoyed being able to explain that they were intended to allow people who want to do more legwork to save some money or people who don't have the time or inclination to have much of the work done for them. ‘A few days later, he's in.'Benefits of the LCC: When you win an LCC client, which should be easier than winning a design client (because the commitment is infinitely smaller), they are five times more likely to make a second purchase of your design services than a non-client.Next steps: Review Module 6 on the LCC. PS: Watch my short video on pricing your architectural services in tiers.PPS: Follow us on Instagram @archmarketing and check out my reel on ‘Why Architects Should Sell Slow.' Hosted on Acast. On the IXP database there are 737 different Internet exchange points listed globally but how much do you know about them? This podcast will go some way to explain how a multi-site exchange like LINX operates and runs its network. To start off LINX CEO, Kurtis Lindqvist, talks about the LINX strategy which has four main areas of focus. These are economies of scale, its regional Internet Exchange strategy, LINX's broader interconnection offerings, plus longtail and future growth opportunities. How do these combine and relate to company objectives? How does competition and the wider interconnection market as a whole fit in? Obviously for a tech business investment is critical to stay relevant. LINX Chief Technical Officer, Richard Petrie, covers network developments such as 400GE, IT computer services, observability, tooling, equipment delivery timescales, and the LINX member portal. Automation and APIs are becoming increasingly important and Richard, along with Riccardo Verzeni, LINX Software Manager, will discuss those too. At the beginning of the year, LINX introduced a new pricing structure. This greatly simplifies the capacity upgrade process and offers greater flexibility in adding different services on member ports. LINX Product Manager, Mike Hellers, explains how additional LINX services are integral to the LINX pricing model. Peering has traditionally been the primary focus for an Internet exchange point but today it is more about being an interconnection hub. An Internet exchange needs to be able to provide a range of different products and services, whatever a network's requirements may be.  In the final section, we're going to look at the important issue of Internet regulation. LINX is proud to have been able to offer public affairs support to its members for many years, and indeed it is a core LINX function. LINX Director of Legal and Policy, Malcolm Hutty, provides an overview of the key policy developments that could potentially impact LINX members at every member meeting. We would very much recommend you visit the LINX YouTube channel to watch extended playbacks of all the presentations featured in this podcast. These were originally part of the LINX115 member meeting which was held in February. The teams do travel, so the Indians play all round the world, but it might be a little bit of an advantage to New Zealand playing in English conditions."LISTEN ABOVE

In today's episode of the Business of Architecture podcast, you'll get a sneak peek behind the scenes of the Mastermind group I run with Richard Petrie and Eric Bobrow. A Mastermind group is a small group of individuals who meet regularly to brainstorm and think tank about a particular subject. This Mastermind focuses on helping group members win higher quality projects through strategic marketing. The group meets weekly online, and we run 2 live meet-ups per year where we all get together in person. In episodes 255 and 256 I talked more about the Mastermind - I suggest you go there to hear more about what goes on in these closed-door meetings. Everything that takes place in our mastermind meeting is held confidential by those participating; however, I felt you would get a lot of value out of this conversation so I got permission from the people involved to share this with you. On this Mastermind call, you'll hear Caryn Paradis, who runs a high-end interior design firm in Connecticut, talk about identifying her ideal client avatar. Creating an avatar is where you describe the qualities of your fictional, ideal client so you can better target, recognize and attract that kind of person to your practice. When developing an ideal client avatar for your practice, most people make the mistake of focusing only on the demographics of their ideal client -- for instance income range, age, gender, where they live, etc. These things are important, but more important are the psychographics of your ideal clients. A psychographic profile describes not only what someone is, but what someone likes and what someone believes. For instance, being conservative or liberal leaning would be a psychographic. In this conversation, in addition to Caryn, you'll also hear marketing coach Richard Petrie and architect, Peter Twohy who facilitates these meetings. Peter was a guest on the show back in Episode 92. In today's episode, you'll discover: The key to attracting the kinds of clients you actually want to work with Why having a mission and purpose is essential if you want to create an enduring business How to identify your personal mission, which author Simon Sinek calls your "why" Before we go on, however, I wanted to remind you, If you haven't already, to get free instant access to the 4-part architecture firm profit map video that's free for podcast listeners by going to "freearchitectgift.com".
