Rob Terry On Finding Success, Misconceptions About Natural Athletes by WrestleZone

Generation Iron first made an impact in 2013 following the 2012 Mr. Olympia competition. In the past 7 years, founder Vlad Yudin has developed a brand that has replaced most of the fitness magazines as he continues to conduct interviews, promote the fitness industry, ask questions most people refuse to make public when it comes to bodybuilding and produce in depth documentaries. In Generation Iron: Natty 4 Life, Yudin finally addresses one of the smallest and most neglected parts of the sport of bodybuilding and that's the natural athletes. Yudin introduces follows the journey of natural competitors Adrian Pietrariu, Philip Ricardo Jr. and former TNA wrestler, Rob Terry on their journey in to compete in the Natural Olympia. The documentary also features fan favorites Kai Greene and the, "controversial" figure, former American Gladiator, Mike O'Hearn. Over the years, people have accused O'Hearn of being a, "fake natty," which he also addresses in the documetnary. We caught up with Yudin about Generation Iron: Natty 4 Life, the impact the series has had on the industry and has anyone that was previously enhanced switch to natural bodybuilding. Could those competitors be considered natural if they were ever enhanced at one point in time? For more information on Generation Iron visit www.generationiron.com. If you've heard or Rob Terry before, then you would be familiar with his work from his time with IMPACT! Wrestling. Terry was not only apart of The British Invasion with Doug Williams and current NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Brutus Magnus (aka Nick Aldis). Once the stable dissolved he later teamed then feuded with Robbie E. (currently Rob Stone in WWE NXT). Now, the Welsh grappler not only works as a firefighter but at the time of film Generation Iron: Natty 4 Life, was the defending Natural Olympia champion in the heavyweight division. Terry, who stands 6'4" and walks around at over 260 lbs is a life-long natural bodybuilder. Terry, who had a medical condition at the age of 8 years old would have died from any attempt at becoming an enhanced athlete, although you would never guess from looking at him. Big Rob, as he was known in Florida Championship Wrestling used to be offended by people calling him a, "fake natty," but Terry has the physical scars to prove just why he couldn't take anything that isn't over the counter. In fact, not only does he participate in WADA urine testing, but also willfully submits to blood tests at his own expense. Generation Iron: Natty 4 Life, follows the journey of natural competitors as Terry competes against Adrian Pietrariu and Philip Ricardo Jr. tries to repeat his previous year's victory at the Natural Olympia. The documentary also features fan favorites Kai Greene and the, “controversial” figure, former American Gladiator, Mike O’Hearn. Over the years, people have accused O’Hearn of being a, “fake natty,” which he also addresses in the documentary. To understand how D.C.'s cyber technology community is growing and shaping the economy, we talk to Dr. Erran Carmel, professor at the Kogod School of Business; Jennifer Thornton, director of workforce initiatives at the Greater Washington Partnership; and Rob Terry, senior writer at the Washington Business Journal. Topics discussed include digital convergence, widening the talent pool, and spurring economic growth through the cyber industry.
I chat with former WWE wrestler Rob Terry about his journey to becoming the Natural Mr Olympia. We discuss how he got in to bodybuilding, his training split, what he eats and the mistakes he made throughout his lifting career. We also discuss about why it's so important to be a natural lifter, why he's chosen to stay natural and the common questions he gets asked.
Talking anything and everything
Rob Terry, senior writer with the Washington Business Journal and expert in current contracting trends, says many companies are looking to scale upward to increase profits.
Terry Waite shares his thoughts on world problems, education, motivation and mental health. How and why he started working as a negotiator, how he overcame difficulties and challenges, and lessons he learned from his time in captivity. Why we need broader education, what freedom really is, why to live the present moment and of course, what the word "disruptive" means to him. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Episode 59 is a gem of an episode. Do you know who Austin Bradley is? Well you will! Bradley started training right out of high school at 18 with Nick Dinsmore at OVW. Also helping with his training were names like Rip Rogers, and Al Snow. He talks about his training, working for OVW, and his first match, as well as how Rip Rogers hilariously made sure he lost his case of nerves beforehand! He covers working with guys like Rob Terry, Jay Bradley, and King Mo in OVW, and his close friendship that developed with Mo. He goes over his departure from OVW, and calls out someone who claims to have had a hand in his training, but in fact had none at all. He goes over working for D1W and Rick Brady. He discusses meeting Madman Pondo, and how helpful Pondo has been in his career. We touch on his successful tag team #Spotlight/Danger Zone with Kyle Maverick, and working with Tracy Smothers. He tells the story about his first concussion, and about working an IPPV match shortly thereafter with Adam Gooch. Austin has also had some experience working for the Insane Clown Posse in JCW, including a death match with the one and only Necro Butcher. We talk about that and his other experiences there, and all over the mid south, until he got the invite to Japan. Austin trained with and wrestled for Zero One in Japan, and he talks about that as well as the cultural differences and how he took to them. He also happened to be in Japan during two major earthquakes, one while extremely hungover after a sponsor dinner! He tells the tale of how Zero One helped after the disaster, the press coverage, and how it made him feel. And finally we go over his injury that unfortunately led to him being sent home, and we talk about his future, both here in the states, and in Japan and possibly England. Austin is a confident, talented kid, and I see big things for him all over the world, in professional wrestling. Please check out Austin Bradley on his Facebook page, and follow his work in promotions like IWA East Coast, ASW, and Resistance Pro, as well as Zero One in Japan. And please check out the Creative Control official t shirt store at prowrestlingtees.com/ccwithjoefeeneyCurrently a t shirt purchase comes with a free surprise gift!
