Rip Rogers has a hell of a twitter account (@Hustler2754) filled with all sorts of great advice and observations about the pro-wrestling biz! Yeah, a lot's changed since he was last in the squared circle, but as you'll hear him say, not the fundamentals or the psychology! He's telling it like it is when it comes to heels vs babyfaces, working punches, bumping, selling, reading the crowd, and tucking in those boot laces! He's also got stories about working with Dick The Bruiser, Lanny Poffo, and Fit Finlay.
This week we head to Continental Wrestling to watch some Adrian Street vs Rip Rogers matches.
Dylan Bostic is a pro wrestler, boxer, actor & rapper from Shelbyville, Indiana. He talks about his pro wrestling career including his training with Rip Rogers who taught WWE superstars like Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Batista, & John Cena. Dylan talks about how to develop a character and what someone can expect from a pro wrestling show if they have never seen one. Finally, Jimmy & Dylan talk about what aspects of pro wrestling could be improved on to make the product better in the future. No mention of the money on a pole best of 7 series this week. And it was only announced last week! And they have a rather fluid take on the Texas Death Match too, but Adrian Street enjoys it, Rip Rogers less so... By the way, Kevin Sullivan is on his travels again, this week it's the Chamber Of Memories. Near the new Dunkin' Donuts... Kris & David are guestless this time, as we discuss the week-plus that was March 1-8, 1992. We start with WCW, where we talk about Jesse Ventura being pulled off of the 1992 Minnesota Vikings radio broadcasts because of his relationship with WCW, Dave going to a pair of WCW house shows in two different timezones, Steve Williams & Terry Gordy coming to WCW, and so much more there. We then go international to talk about Doc & Gordy losing their AJPW Unified World Tag Team Titles in preparation for their departure to WCW, New Japan running their 20th Anniversary Show with a major card featuring the Japanese debut of the El Samurai gimmick, the greatness of Sean Waltman and others in Japan's Universal Lucha Libre, the UWA moving its TV tapings to Arena Neza, Paul Roma's pro boxing debut, Rip Rogers squatting throughout the whole hour on SMW TV, as well as all the other news from the just about everywhere before going to the WWF. The WWF section this week is MASSIVE, as Pat Patterson & Terry Garvin tender their resignations as the ring boy abuse/Titangate scandals are heating up. We are happy to debut the first episode of the “It's A Family Affair” Podcast, the companion piece to the website project of the same name examining Continental Championship Wrestling. And for our first show, it's great to welcome back Karl Stern (@WIWCool) to the show. Not only is Karl a wrestling historian, but an Alabama native who grew up watching Southeastern Wrestling and saw its transition to Continental. In a very wide-ranging discussion, we talk about the transition of the promotion in June 1985, the logistics of the change, why they changed names, format and even announcers, bringing in Gordon Solie to replace longtime host Charlie Platt. We talk about where the promotion was in terms of angles they were running at the time and what they did on the debut show, including bringing in world champion Ric Flair to kick off the first episode. After that, quite frankly, we just all over the place, talking about just about everything related to the company, including their start in Knoxville in 1974, Ron Fuller acquiring the Gulf Coast terrritory and renaming it Southeastern in 1978, the towns they ran and where the TV show was seen in that part of the country. We talk about Ron Fuller's career as a wrestler and promoter, including whether we think buying Knoxville cost him the change of being NWA World Champion . And we discuss just about every name you can think of from this era: Robert Fuller, Jimmy Golden, all of the Armstrongs (Bob, Brad, Scott and Steve), Adrian Street, Rip Rogers, Austin Idol, Tommy and Johnny Rich, the Nightmares (Danny Davis and Ken Wayne), Tom Prichard, Tony Anthony, Jerry Stubbs, The Flame (also known as the Assassin), Roy Lee Welch, Bill Ash, Lord Humongous and more. We also talk about Karl's When It Was Cool website, a wide ranging popular culture site, very akin to our own. We even find time to talk about Southern Basterds, then now missing in action comic set in the part of Alabama Karl knows very well. The goal of the podcast is not only have wrestling journalists and historians on the show, but also the wrestlers were that is possible. Note: You can also hear me on an upcoming episode of Ron Fuller's Super Stud Cast, where I can to ask Ron about the creation of Continental and hear how it happened from the man himself. Be sure to check out the It's A Family Affair section of the website for a look at the Continental television shows and other articles about the promotion. Thanks for your time.

We're excited to have the head trainer of Ohio Valley Wrestling, Hustler Rip Rogers (@Hustler2754) on our show today! He's a guest many listeners have been asking us to get on for a while now. Rip started off his time in Angelo, Randy and Lanny's ICW territory in 1977 and he has had a significant history with the Poffo family over the years. In this week's episode, Lanny and Rip look back on their time on the road together and let us take a peek behind the curtain to what it was really like to be a wrestler in the 70s and 80s! From wrestlers dodging their restaurant bills, to creatively saving money on the road by sleeping sixteen to a hotel room, the Iron Sheik, "smelly" ribs in the car, Ronnie Garvin crashing his car due to being "preoccupied", and more, this colorful conversation is one you don't want to miss! Also in this week's show: Lanny gives his thoughts on Japan, New Japan Pro Wrestling, how one of the most influential men in professional wrestling, Rikidōzan, was murdered by the Japanese mafia, wrestling his brother Randy and why it never happened in the WWF, wrestling in Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio, Macho Man on the Arsenio Hall Show, wrestling Ciclón Negro in Venezuela, and so much more! This week's episode of The Genius Cast is jam-packed with great content! We have two important guests, Kevin Kelly, the voice of New Japan Pro Wrestling, and Nick Dinsmore, formerly known as "Eugene" of WWE! In a special interview taped from Shibuya, Japan, Kevin Kelly opens up to Lanny about being taken to task by fans and how he handled the critics when he first started off as play-by-play announcer of New Japan back in October 2015. He talks reaching out to fans on social media to learn and understand NJPW more at a deeper level, the joy of watching the progression of Lanny and Mavs Gillis as commentators from their first shows up until now while also offering advice to Lanny to help him earn his spot to come back to New Japan as color commentator in the future. Over Kevin's 28-year plus career in wrestling, his work in New Japan is what he is most proud and he explains why and so much more. In our well-anticipated interview with Nick Dinsmore, he looks back on being a ten-time Heavyweight Champion and eleven-time Southern Tag Team Champion in OVW working alongside Jim Cornette and Rip Rogers while training Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, John Cena, and Dave Batista, what it was like to wrestle in WCW when they were beating WWF in the Monday Night Wars, accidentally walking into the nWo locker room, wrestling as Doink the Clown and one half of the Los Conquistadores tag team, the lie he told that resulted in him getting called up to the main roster in WWE, sharing a ring with the likes of The Rock, Hulk Hogan, and Vince McMahon, road stories with Tajiri and William Regal, his feelings on how WWE handled the "Eugene" character, whether or not he thinks it would work in today's society, life after WWE, his Midwest All Pro Wrestling promotion in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (follow @midwestallpro), and so much more! Nick also sits in the interviewer chair and asks Lanny some hard-hitting questions with one particular question challenging Lanny's claim that his brother was an upstanding citizen who was never arrested! Two heartfelt and open conversations you do not want to miss!! Also in this week's show: Lanny's history with the NWA, the perks and pitfalls of running against NWA territories as opposed to being a member of the NWA when with ICW, who Lanny wishes he had the chance to hit between the eyes with a frisbee, unusual stories on Iron Mike Sharpe and his extreme OCD, records Lanny used to break in the gym, and so much more! Rip Rogers is sharing more 411 on pro wrestling psychology! This time its all about high spots, throwing a good working punch, creating an original gimmick, and really honing a few good in-ring tools. Rips also talking about booking the Puerto Rico territory, the old caravan tours of Germany, and telling a few more stories about Macho Man Randy Savage.
