WWE's NXT and AEW went head-to-head on Tuesday with NXT Showdown battling AEW Title Tuesday for eyeballs. Host Adam Silverstein opens by diving into the latest wrestling news [2:15] involving Santos Escobar, Kota Ibushi, Karrion Kross and MVP before breaking down both shows. "The Silver King" tackles NXT [13:35] where the head-to-head with TNA Wrestling left a lot to be desired despite Ethan Page and Mustafa Ali putting on the match of the week. The Survivor Series matches failed to deliver as The Hardys won the NXT tag team in fun yet depressing fashion. Adam then breaks down AEW [28:45] with Samoa Joe working hard to build his title match with Hangman Page, Orange Cassidy vs. Pac going off the rails, Darby Allin introducing a Molotov cocktail against the Death Riders, Kris Statlander and Toni Storm being relegated to Collision alongside an overall refusal to tell stories that drastically impacted both shows. A surprisingly convoluted build to the NXT Showdown with TNA Wrestling along with surprisingly weak booking by AEW for its 6th Anniversary Show and Title Tuesday special lead the program. Host Adam Silverstein opens by diving into WWE's NXT [4:20] where the don't-call-it-an-invasion by TNA stood as the focus, including surprise returns by Mustafa Ali and Matt Cardona, with Ricky Saints, Trick Williams, Jacy Jayne, Kelani Jordan and Mike Santana standing as team captains going into the special show. "The Silver King" then breaks down the AEW 6th Anniversary Show and build to Title Tuesday [31:40] with Jon Moxley choking the life out of Darby Allin, Hangman Page suddenly feuding with Samoa Joe, Kris Statlander reverting to an old gimmick for no reason, Toni Storm getting "What?!" chanted during her best promo of 2025 and Andrade returning to attack Kenny Omega as one of two new Don Callis Family members. Welcome back to Wrestling Tonight, your weekly look at the stories shaping wrestling across WWE, AEW, TNA, NJPW, and beyond. Episode 143 follows a weekend where WWE launched its ESPN era with WrestlePalooza in Indianapolis while AEW countered with All Out in Toronto. Both events delivered major matches, big surprises, and plenty of conversation about where the industry is headed. WrestlePalooza leaned on spectacle and presentation, framed as ESPN's debut showcase. Triple H welcomed fans to the “final form of sports entertainment,” Pat McAfee returned home to the announce desk, and Brock Lesnar dominated John Cena in what felt like another farewell chapter. Stephanie Vaquer captured the vacant Women's World Title from IYO SKY, AJ Lee returned to force Becky Lynch to tap in a mixed tag with CM Punk, and Cody Rhodes retained over Drew McIntyre in a physical main event. The Undertaker also appeared to announce Stephanie McMahon as the first Hall of Fame inductee for 2026. Behind the matches, WWE emphasized site-fee partnerships and ESPN executives promised editorial independence — “a separation of church and state” — while creative stays in WWE's hands. AEW's All Out was more chaotic and match-heavy. Adam Copeland and Christian Cage reunited against FTR in a feud intensified by Beth Copeland's involvement, Eddie Kingston returned and aligned with HOOK, and Mark Briscoe scored a career-defining win over MJF in a violent Tables & Tacks match. Kris Statlander shocked Toni Storm to win the Women's Title, Brodido retained the tag belts in a ladder match capped by the Jurassic Express reunion, and Jon Moxley beat Darby Allin in a Coffin Match with help from PAC. Kazuchika Okada outlasted Konosuke Takeshita and Máscara Dorada in the show-stealer, while Hangman Page retained the AEW World Title against Kyle Fletcher in a bout that elevated the 26-year-old as a future star. Taken together, WrestlePalooza was polished and corporate-friendly, AEW was riskier and more unpredictable. WWE projected mainstream legitimacy, AEW doubled down on edge and workrate. Neither show reinvented the wheel, but both reinforced their identities. Beyond the weekend, WrestleMania 43 is confirmed for Saudi Arabia in 2027, WWE will stage its first PLE in Italy in 2026, Joe Hendry is expected to move full-time to WWE, and Raja Jackson's arrest after attacking Syko Stu at a KnokX show has drawn widespread attention. Will Ospreay successfully underwent neck surgery, beginning a long recovery. The fall schedule remains packed with TNA Victory Road, NXT No Mercy, WWE Crown Jewel, TNA Bound for Glory, and AEW WrestleDream on deck. For now, the story is clear: WWE and AEW both planted flags this weekend — one through ESPN's polish, the other through chaos in Toronto. Support the Tavern at Patreon.com/TheTurnbuckleTavern. Until next Monday, when we wine and dine with you kings and queens, stay out of the alley and away from the pork and beans: God luck and good speed.

Episode 202 brings the chaos as your hosts Diana Prince (The Last Drive-In on Shudder & AMC+), Gringo Fantastico (Fantastico Disasterpiece Theatre on Troma Now), and Johnny Taylor (stand-up comedian, “Bummin' With the Devil” on Tubi) break down a wild AEW Dynamite from Philly. We've got Hangman beating Josh Alexander and setting up a World Title match with Kyle Fletcher, MJF's unhinged vows against Mark Briscoe, Riho's momentum, FTR starting fights with fans, and Ricochet vs. Shelton Benjamin in an ECW-flavored clash. Then the Philly Street Fight with Toni Storm vs. Skye Blue delivered staples, mouse traps, bug zappers, and cheese, before the night closed with Daniel Garcia shocking the world by joining the Death Riders and stomping Darby Allin's face into a chair. All that plus our Hero, Dick, and Match of the Week — only on AEW-some Pod Episode 202.

Tom abandoned Tim for his family (the nerve!), but that didn't stop AEW Dynamite from delivering an absolutely chaotic, story-packed episode from the legendary 2300 Arena in Philly. With Tim flying solo, he needed a wild show to break down, and Tony Khan certainly delivered. We had new roles defined, brutal promos cut, and one of the most shocking turns in recent memory to close out the night. If you missed the livestream, you can listen to the full, unfiltered audio breakdown right here. This Week's Rundown:It was a night of big moves, both in and out of the ring. Here are the key moments Timhad to break down:* Bryan Danielson is ALL ELITE (on commentary): The American Dragon has a permanent seat at the commentary table! Tim discusses why this is a genius move for AEW's storytelling and what it means for the broadcast booth going forward.* Hangman Page's "Cowboy Sh*t" Warning: After a hard-hitting match with Josh Alexander, Hangman Page had some chilling words for his All Out opponent, Kyle Fletcher. Tim dives into the deeper meaning behind "you're not ready" and the Philly crowd's hilarious obsession with Fletcher's socks.* The Devil's Wedding Vows: Forget "'til death do us part," MJF is now married to VENGEANCE. His unhinged, intense promo on Mark Briscoe was a masterclass in menace and a clear sign that the real "Salt of the Earth" is back.* The Women's Division Gets Hardcore: A chaotic tag match set the stage for a wild four-way AEW Women's World Championship match at All Out. The table is set for a classic.* Gentlemen's Agreement? Not a Chance: Tim breaks down the absolute mayhem that erupted after the Ricochet vs. Shelton Benjamin match, proving that faction warfare is about to boil over in a big way.* HOOK's Next Move: "The Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil" sent a cryptic message about his future. Is he still flying solo, or is he looking for a partner?* The SHOCKING Main Event Betrayal: And finally, the moment everyone is talking about. The 10-Man Tag was pure chaos, but the real story was the aftermath. Daniel Garcia has officially sold his soul and joined the Blackpool Combat Club, betraying Darby Allin in the process. Tim breaks down the turn, the motives, and what this means for the future of the BCC.Join the Conversation! This was one of those episodes that leaves us with more questions than answers, and that's the best kind of wrestling show. Now we want to hear from you!* What was YOUR match of the night?* Did Daniel Garcia make the right move, or is he making a deal with the devil(s)?* Who are your early picks for All Out?Drop your thoughts in the comments! If you enjoyed this breakdown, the best way to support the show is to like this post and share it with another wrestling fan who needs this in their life.
