This Sunday we looked at the story of Ruth (Ruth 1–3) and what it means to trust God's timing.“Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-bye. But Ruth clung tightly to Naomi.” – Ruth 1:14Ruth chose covenant over convenience.Faith over familiarity.Purpose over comfort. She didn't rush love. She didn't manipulate outcomes. She stayed faithful in the field — and at the proper time, God brought Boaz. If you rush the process, you ruin the product.Ruth teaches us:• Choose relationships wisely.• Enjoy the season you're in.• Keep intimacy in proper context.• Look for green lights, don't ignore red flags.• Guard your heart.• Let wise voices speak into your life. Her waiting wasn't just about a wedding — it was about destiny. Ruth became part of the lineage of King David, and ultimately, Jesus. The story of Ruth and Boaz is a picture of Jesus — our Redeemer. He paid the price to redeem us, not because He had to, but because He loves us.If you're in a season of waiting, remember:You're not forgotten. You're being prepared.

sermon series: Advent: Mothers of the Messiah sermon date: December 14, 2025
Pastor Lisle Drury preaches from Ruth 4:13-22.
. . . and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah. — Matthew 1:16 Christmas often brings families together for celebrations. In many ways this can be a wonderful time of celebration and encouragement. But families can be complicated, so at times our holidays can come with baggage we can't escape. The book of Matthew introduces the story of Jesus by sharing his family tree. Some names in this list can be found in the Old Testament; others are lost to history. The Christmas story bears the imprint of kings and commoners, some who wanted to live for God and some who did not. Most notable are the people whose stories include pain or even great sins but who came to experience God's grace and healing. Jacob was a schemer who wrestled with God (Genesis 32:22-32). Tamar (Genesis 38) and Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11-12) were victims of abuse. Rahab (Joshua 2-6) and Ruth (Ruth 1-4) were foreigners who would have been looked down on in Israel. Manasseh was a wicked king who only repented late in life (2 Chronicles 33). Jesus' human lineage was anything but pure and holy. Yet the Son of God chose to enter the human race through this collection of imperfect ancestors. If your Christmas celebrations include imperfect people, or you feel wounds from your own imperfect past, give thanks that Jesus the Messiah chose the same kind of family through which to bring salvation to the human race. Jesus, thank you for coming into our imperfect lives to bring your perfect love to us. Amen.

Join Pastor Peter as he shares an insightful message on "The Cost of Community," emphasizing the importance of praying in this house season and addressing the groundwork the Lord does before the church experiences supernatural fruitfulness. Drawing on 1 Peter 2:9-10, Pastor Peter highlights that believers are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation called out of darkness into marvelous light. He clarifies that while the price of admission into Jesus's body has already been paid by His finished work on the cross, the cost of community is not the price of entry but the necessity of stewarding the precious gift we've been given as the body of Christ. True community moves beyond simply seeking fellowship to understanding its four biblical dimensions: Gathering, Congregation, Koinonia (participation/fellowship), and Eklesia (assembly), recognizing that common unity is found in the communion of the saints. The central point is that the church belongs to the Lord, not to any person, and that Jesus paid the cost for community, removing the wall of hostility by his death (Ephesians 2:15). Pastor Peter argues that the ultimate cost of community is Pentecost, asserting that nothing less than an outpouring of the Holy Spirit can wash away the sin that separates us and change our hearts to love one another. This Spirit-led bond is exemplified by the devotion of Ruth (Ruth 1:16), the formation of the early church (Acts 2:42-47), and the 1727 Moravian Pentecost, which transformed a divided group into a community of devotion.

We celebrate moms and spiritual mothers, acknowledging the joy and the aches holidays can bring (loss, struggle, longing). Jesus meets each of you in your unique story. He knows what you need. Jesus deeply loved His own mother and all women, treating them with radical dignity, respect, and compassion—truly countercultural for His time.Key Points:Jesus' Radical View of Women:Spoke respectfully to them (Samaritan woman, John 4; woman caught in adultery, John 8).Healed them publicly (Peter's mother-in-law, Mark 1; woman with issue of blood, Mark 5; bent-over woman, Luke 13).Affirmed their faith & worth. Many women followed & financially supported His ministry (Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna - Luke 8). Mary of Bethany learned at His feet (Luke 10).Entrusted women as first witnesses of His resurrection (Matt 28, John 20).These women, freed from shame, became deeply devoted, bold partners in His mission.Celebrating Women in Our Church Family – Echoes of Biblical Strength:Mary of Bethany (Matt 26): Extravagant worshippers, pouring out your most valuable for Jesus. Like her, Radiant women, you've done beautiful things for Him.Miriam (Exodus 15): Leading in worship, singing songs of deliverance, reminding us God brings us to dry land.Esther (Esther 4:16): Courageous, sticking your necks out for others' freedom and safety, saying "If I perish, I perish."Ruth (Ruth 1:16-17): Faithful, loyal, obedient, choosing right relationship over comfort, loving for the long haul: "Where you go, I will go."Widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17): Hospitality in scarcity, giving generously from little, trusting God's miraculous provision.Lydia (Acts 16): Businesswomen and those with abundance, leveraging success and resources for God's Kingdom.Hannah (1 Sam 1:27-28): Prayer warriors, contending earnestly, prevailing on God, and lending your answered prayers back to Him.Mary at Lazarus' Tomb (John 11:28-35): Raw faith in grief, falling at Jesus' feet, finding Him as the God who weeps with us & brings comfort.Deborah (Judges 4-5): Strong leaders with prophetic wisdom, inspiring victory ("Up! For this is the day..."), and partnering beautifully, calling men and women higher in God.Conclusion: Radiant women, for 20 years (and all women of faith), you've chosen the better thing. You've poured out love in extravagant worship, not counting the cost. You've taken courageous steps, chosen faithfulness, given generously, contended in prayer, wept honest tears at Jesus' feet while believing Him even in the dark, and led with wisdom. Because of this, we've seen Him. Thank you for being lovers of God and spiritual mothers. Proverbs 31: not competition, but a celebration of a woman's lifelong fruit. God counts & celebrates all you do.Call to Action: Let's continue this journey of faith: loving God and living for Him. Men, actively honor and celebrate the women in your lives. Women, keep arising, using your God-given gifts to call us higher. Let's embrace the future, partnering for the Gospel. God is worthy of it all! Ruth - Ruth gleans in Boaz's field. Boaz will redeem Ruth. The marriage of Ruth. The line of David.
Hello beautiful ones, and welcome back to The Becoming Podcast. Today on the show I am thrilled to introduce you to Ruth Allen. I have been following (and loving) Ruth's work for a number of years, and I've absolutely loved her two books, Grounded and Weathering. Her work and her writing has deeply shaped the way I think about the natural world and the way I move my body through it. Let me formally introduce Ruth: Ruth is a writer, embodied psychotherapist and facilitator working primarily outdoors in landscape, and online. Combining her background in geology, with innovative body-based and creative techniques drawing on a multitude of teachings and influences, she offers therapy, mentoring, workshops, classes and adventure retreats - all practical, slow magic - designed to help others connect with their bodies and the rest of nature through depth-full enquiry and practices that deepen our capacity to listen, for the greater whole-health of planet and people. Some of the things Ruth and I talk about on the show are: > The resourcing we can access through witnessing the natural cycles and seasons of the natural world – and also how that is being impacted by climate change. > How to be in relationship with the earth as both a benevolent and even maternal entity – as well as one with the potential for destruction. We talk about the parallels between the concepts of the "ever-giving mother" and the "ever-giving planet," and how both ideologies seem to make those who nurture us vulnerable to exploitation. > What we can learn from rocks as allies in times of change in our lives and in the collective. Ruth talks about the concept of weathering and erosion as being inevitable parts of the process of growth and rising, both for ourselves and our rock kin. > The challenge of extending our ideas about animacy to the seemingly inanimate: rocks. Ruth beautifully hypothesizes that if we can see rock as kin and choose to be in a caring relationship with them, then we can see anyone as kin and care for them just the same. > How Ruth engages in reciprocity with the natural world. And truly, truly so much more! If you're curious about how you might be in deeper connection with the living world and perhaps how that connection might support you through times of weathering in your life, this episode is for you.
