A leading climate researcher has told FRANCE 24 that the conclusion of the COP30 summit at the weekend was scientifically nothing less than a failure. Johan Rockström is director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. The German institute is seen as one of the world's top environmental think tanks. Although more funding for countries to adapt to extreme weather events was agreed, there were no explicit details to phase out fossil fuels or strengthen countries' inadequate emissions-cutting plans, which dozens of nations had demanded. Rockström spoke to us in Perspective.

As we near the end of the Trinity season our thoughts move to the end of the world in our worship services, and the confidence that the Christian has to stand before the Judge of the world on that day. We can only stand with confidence if we stand on Jesus because of His blood and His perfect life. Nothing else in this life can offer the sinner what is needed to be confident of forgiveness, and eternal life. The English hymnwriter, Edward Mote, puts this to words in this hymn. The chorus is based on Jesus' words in Matthew 7:24-27: “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” In addition to this verse, Mote also weaves in thoughts from other Bible verses that point to Jesus as our Confidence on the Last Day. These verses include: Romans 3:23-26 - For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Hebrews 6:19-20 - This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 - Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Philippians 3:8-9 - Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; What a comfort it is to know that the life and death of Jesus is our reason we can have confidence on the last day! May the LORD bless your worship this weekend!
In this message, we consider how the widow of Luke 18 represents a believer whose hope is totally resting in Jesus, compared to those who hedge their bets and lean on this world for peace and confidence.
Join Pastor Peter as he shares an insightful message on "The Cost of Community," emphasizing the importance of praying in this house season and addressing the groundwork the Lord does before the church experiences supernatural fruitfulness. Drawing on 1 Peter 2:9-10, Pastor Peter highlights that believers are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation called out of darkness into marvelous light. He clarifies that while the price of admission into Jesus's body has already been paid by His finished work on the cross, the cost of community is not the price of entry but the necessity of stewarding the precious gift we've been given as the body of Christ. True community moves beyond simply seeking fellowship to understanding its four biblical dimensions: Gathering, Congregation, Koinonia (participation/fellowship), and Eklesia (assembly), recognizing that common unity is found in the communion of the saints. The central point is that the church belongs to the Lord, not to any person, and that Jesus paid the cost for community, removing the wall of hostility by his death (Ephesians 2:15). Pastor Peter argues that the ultimate cost of community is Pentecost, asserting that nothing less than an outpouring of the Holy Spirit can wash away the sin that separates us and change our hearts to love one another. This Spirit-led bond is exemplified by the devotion of Ruth (Ruth 1:16), the formation of the early church (Acts 2:42-47), and the 1727 Moravian Pentecost, which transformed a divided group into a community of devotion.

God promises us His presence and we shouldn't settle for anything less. Join us as we explore a famous story at the foot of Mount Sinai where the Israelites want God to be present with them, but on their own terms. Even today, we are tempted to squeeze God down to something less than Who He fully is, whether we realize it or not. Especially after spiritual victories, we can create "gods of our own making". Learn how to keep "looking up" to the real, untamable God and avoid settling for a cheap, comfortable god of your own creation. Speaker: Ben Horseman

The Sermon on the Mount series. Sermon by Scotty Meiser. Matthew 7:24-29 - "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."
Today's focus is on the vital importance of building our lives according to God's pattern, not our own preferences or the shifting standards of the world. Drawing from Jesus' words in Matthew 7, we see that every person is building a “house”—a life, a family, a future. The difference between a life that stands and one that falls is not in the storms faced, but in the foundation chosen. Jesus makes it clear: hearing His words is not enough; it is the application—obedience—that makes us wise builders. The storms of life are inevitable, but those who build on the rock of Christ will endure. A key obstacle to hearing God is the absence of repentance. Repentance is not just a one-time event but a continual turning from our own way of thinking to God's way. The story of King Herod illustrates the danger of silencing the voice of repentance; when we cut off repentance, we cut off the voice and direction of God in our lives. True repentance means surrendering our right to define good and evil and instead adopting God's standard. Wisdom is not merely knowledge, but knowledge applied. Solomon's prayer for wisdom, rather than riches or power, shows us that wisdom brings with it all the other blessings we often seek. Many of the struggles we face are not just circumstantial but are rooted in faulty patterns—cycles that can only be broken by aligning our lives with God's design. Life built by default—drifting wherever the tide takes us—leads to instability. But life built by design, according to God's pattern, brings hope, stability, and endurance. The foundation we choose is more important than the storms we face. Even if you have built poorly in the past, God's grace allows you to choose today to build on the rock of Jesus. Our hope is not in our circumstances, but in the unshakable foundation of Christ. Like the hymn writer Edward Mote, whose song “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” was born out of a desire to hear from God, we can find peace and strength in Jesus, no matter what storms come our way. Key Takeaways - Repentance is the gateway to hearing God's voice. When we refuse to repent, we silence the very voice that brings direction and life. Repentance is not just feeling sorry, but a decisive change of mind—letting go of our own definitions of right and wrong and embracing God's truth. Without repentance, even the most religious among us can find ourselves spiritually deaf. [03:21] - Wisdom is knowledge applied, not just knowledge acquired. Solomon's request for wisdom teaches us that God values our desire to discern and apply His ways above all else. Many blessings we seek are the natural result of living wisely, and without wisdom, even good things can become burdens or be lost. Wisdom is the difference between surviving storms and being swept away by them. [10:54] - The patterns we follow determine the outcomes we experience. Repeated struggles often point to faulty patterns, not just bad luck or spiritual attack. God calls us to build according to His pattern, not our feelings or cultural trends. Changing the pattern—aligning with God's design—brings freedom and breaks cycles of defeat. [17:18] - Life built by default is unstable; life built by design is secure. Drifting with the tides of circumstance or emotion leads to instability and disappointment. God invites us to intentional living—making decisions rooted in His wisdom and truth. Our destiny is shaped not by chance, but by the daily decisions to build on the rock. [22:39] - Hope for the future is found in the foundation, not the forecast. The storms of life are inevitable, but they do not determine our future—our foundation does. Even if you have built on sand in the past, God's grace allows you to start building on the rock today. The peace, hope, and endurance you long for are found in Jesus, our unshakable foundation. In this episode, we talk to Sarah Wilson. She’s had an incredibly diverse career - from teenage model, to newspaper columnist, to women’s magazine editor, and then best-selling author of the book, I Quit Sugar, in 2012. More books followed, on anxiety, and finding purpose in a disconnected world, especially through the climate change crisis. Now she’s focused on cascading and wicked problems - such as climate change, inequality, artificial intelligence and political polarisation - that will lead to nothing less than the collapse of civilisation. But she also thinks there might just be an upside. Wilson is the subject of our cover story this week - THE CRUSADER - and hosting our conversation today is the journalist behind that profile, Good Weekend senior writer Gay Alcorn.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hey y'all! This is an update on the future of this platform. My health has dictated that instead of leading with defying gentrification, I need to lead with crafting liberation. Or in other words, I need to center my art projects and imbue them with the values about community and collectivity that I've always honored. I'm tired of being sick and broke trying to make folks listen. So this podcast will be shifting focus, but keeping the same name for now. Oh and to make it clear from what the episode title is and why, here's my final word on Black folks and gentrification:Black folks, especially in the diaspora, but sometimes even in heavily colonized areas of our home continent, can facilitate gentrification over their own people. And of course it can happen to us. But until the day we globally admit that Black folks that aren't named Oprah, Beyonce, Tyler Perry, and other documented Black billionaires and millionaires can't be gentrifiers, we are done as a movement and as a people. Those people I named aren't above being followed, sanctioned, denied financing opportunities, and the like for what they are intending to do with their work, because of global white supremacy over the financing markets and sometimes just the pettiest of racisms and other isms we do need to process as a people. Also, I will have 15th anniversary celebration this falll, a showcase of what the future of Kristen Jeffers Media will hold. Hey Anon listeners! We wanted to share another podcast we think you'll love about Australia's childcare crisis. It's called At What Cost? In the blur of early parenthood, many parents don’t stop to think about how the roles they adopt at home – as the primary caregiver, or as the breadwinner – impact their careers and finances in the long-term. But they do. And when families can’t access affordable childcare, it’s generally women whose job security takes a hit. This fuels gender inequality on a national scale… contributing to the gender pay gap and the super gap. It also leaves real mums like Emma, whose story we hear in this episode, grappling with housing insecurity and an uncertain future. Join our host Georgie Dent in our third and final full-length episode as we unpack the costs of the childcare crisis to gender equality and the economy Plus: experts share five key solutions that could help make childcare truly accessible and affordable for all – which would be transformative for our country, and especially women.
