How do you raise a good man? And come to think of it...what exactly does it mean to be a "good" man? Nathan Clarkson explored this very idea in his new book, Good Man, and he was kind enough to come back on the show and talk to us about what that looks like. There is a shortage of good men in our culture these days but not for lack of want from their mothers. I know if you have boys, you probably feel like me and want them to grow into men who are kind and wise and honorable...into a good man. Join us today as Nathan talks about his new book, tells us how we can cheer our boys on, and shares what this all might look like for those of us who have an outside-the-box boy who we love. Nathan will give you a better understanding of the struggles young men have today and leave you feeling encouraged and motivated to rise to the challenge that comes with. In this episode you’ll hear: how stories shape good men what makes a “good man?" why men have a responsibility to others to become a good man how we can believe forward for our outside-the-box kiddos how moms can nurture our boys to become good men how dads can use this book to make an impact in their son's life Show Notes Last time Nathan was on the podcast Get your copy of Good Man Get your copy of Different "If" by Rudyard Kipling The Overthinkers Podcast Nathan's website

123 The Other One with Reid Hutchison Episode 123: Show Notes Last week we heard from Reid Hutchison of HOH. Reid told us about how he started in the industry and many more exciting things about himself. One of the many items that he and I share is that we both use the Entrepreneurial Operating System to help run our companies. EOS is one of the tools that I can say has made my team better, thereby making my company better. EOS is a consolidation of tools that any business can use to run the company. The analogy that is used more often than any other is a computer operating system and a program running within that operating system, like a word processor. EOS is the operating system, and your company is the word processor. The tools in EOS give you a framework that any company can use to run more effectively and efficiently. Like so many others, I was taught to be a water treater; running a business was secondary. EOS has made all the difference. I had the privilege of interviewing some of the top tiers of EOS on the podcast. Mark Winters on episode 38 and Mike Paton on episode 85. If you have any questions about EOS, I highly recommend you listen to these episodes. In addition to our discussion of EOS, Reid and I continue to explore a host of topics. Please enjoy the conclusion of my interview with Reid Hutchison of HOH. Show Notes Last week we laid the foundation and discussed what Rhythm means in our lives. This week we are looking at the Model of Rhythm in the life of Jesus… the perfect example, the way, the truth, and the life for each of us. This is one of the most important topics we share and a game changer for so many! Steve will then lead us in a reflection on I Corinthians 2:12-13 and I Corinthians 7:5-6. I Corinthians 2:12-13 | Reflection from The Message by Eugene Peterson Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me, I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia. I Corinthians 7:5-6 | Reflection from the NIV Version For when we came into Macedonia, we had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn—conflicts on the outside, fears within. But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus. Resources FREE DOWNLOAD of the Rhythm Reader, a resource for you to reflect on how to live in Rhythm. Saying no isn’t necessarily because I don’t want to do something, but because I want to create more space. Creating space takes work! I thought the information I shared during the conference would make a good show. For your sake, I hope I'm right. As I am sure you know by now, I love to trust but I insist on verification. For example, when someone told me about using the SperiPen for phosphate digestions, I did and experiment to verify the information I received. You can hear all about what I did with this on Episode 47. So, using the same methodology, I decided to test the information I was receiving about Filming Amines in the same style. Water treaters never have a problem giving their opinion on what they think of something. Just ask one! However, I do think we have an issue with explaining why we have such an opinion. Especially when it comes to giving enough information for others to make decisions based on such an opinion. Nation! It is my goal to get you to think on this show! My commitment to you is that I will get you started, but you then need to take that information and verify it for yourself. Enjoy the “podcast version” of my AWT presentation on Filming Amines. Let me ask you this: are you happy? Why is it that most of us would have a really hard time answering that question? Well, I have a lot of theories. People too often have the wrong idea of what happiness actually looks like (it's not rainbows and butterflies, people!), and they hinge it on their circumstances or others. I've been guilty of this. Oh, have I been guilty! (Sorry, husband, for all the times I made your responsible for my happiness!) So today's podcast is devoted to my thoughts on happiness--what it REALLY looks like, and three ways we can work on our happiness right now, right here. “I’m getting my self-esteem from looking in . . . I have worth in my trying.” Although Mallory Wahlstrom Wright was an accomplished musician, dancer, and athlete, she suffered immensely from perfectionism-bred low self esteem. As a way to cope with never feeling like she measured up, she turned to controlling her body and her weight. Years of this behavior led to a crippled life that she wasn't sure she could make her way back from. A series of lows pushed Mallory to seek help, but the biggest tipping point was when her older brother needed a kidney transplant--and Mallory turned out to be the *perfect* match! Following the surgery, Mallory faced near-life-taking complications and faced a very hard recovery. Through it all, she gained a newfound appreciation for her body and her life. Mallory learned to seek inward and find her own unique light that she now shares from her dance and harp students, to our listeners. In the show, Marcello Sukhdeo talks about his recent trip to Mastercard’s Tech Hub in New York City and the innovation that is being driven by the company. Also, hear from Debbie Barta, SVP, Innovation Channel Management and Startup Engagement, Global for Mastercard on how the company is integrating digital payment at vending machines, paying at the pump, shopping for grocery items from your fridge, and using Pepper (AI) to make purchases at restaurants. Show Notes Last week I was at Mastercard’s Tech Hub in New York City where I had a firsthand look at some innovative things that Mastercard is working on that is going to change the entire payment or financial industry. A few things that stood out to me are the innovative IoT products, VR, AR and conversational commerce. An example where this can be applied to is in store. Think about a clothing store, the key decision moment happens in the fitting room. So, what Mastercard is working on is to bring digital into the fitting room where the mirror will become the interface to interact with. It will show the amount of stock in store or online, it will give recommendations, have an embedded cart, so you can just pay right there and even have your items shipped to your home. All of this done from the fitting room. Another feature that they are working on is called the “always on store.” This is about bringing the checkout experience at the window when a store is closed. Payment will be done by NFC or app based. One other example to whet your appetite further of what to expect in the future from Mastercard is AR enabled shopping. It is about walking around in a physical store and interacting with items in the store. Mastercard is working to make payments much easier. Bringing us the convenience and ease of shopping as well as saving time. Thanks to Debbie Barta from Mastercard for sharing the exciting news with us.
