LESSON 129Beyond This World There Is A World I Want. This is the thought that follows from the one we practiced yesterday. You cannot stop with the idea the world is worthless, for unless you see that there is something else to hope for, you will only be depressed. Our emphasis is not on giving up the world, but on exchanging it for what is far more satisfying, filled with joy, and capable of offering you peace. Think you this world can offer that to you?It might be worth a little time to think once more about the value of this world. Perhaps you will concede there is no loss in letting go all thought of value here. The world you see is merciless indeed, unstable, cruel, unconcerned with you, quick to avenge and pitiless with hate. It gives but to rescind, and takes away all things that you have cherished for a while. No lasting love is found, for none is here. This is the world of time, where all things end.Is it a loss to find a world instead where losing is impossible; where love endures forever, hate cannot exist and vengeance has no meaning? Is it loss to find all things you really want, and know they have no ending and they will remain exactly as you want them throughout time? Yet even they will be exchanged at last for what we cannot speak of, for you go from there to where words fail entirely, into a silence where the language is unspoken and yet surely understood.Communication, unambiguous and plain as day, remains unlimited for all eternity. And God Himself speaks to His Son, as His Son speaks to Him. Their language has no words, for what They say cannot be symbolized. Their knowledge is direct and wholly shared and wholly one. How far away from this are you who stay bound to this world. And yet how near are you, when you exchange it for the world you want. Now is the last step certain; now you stand an instant's space away from timelessness. Here can you but look forward, never back to see again the world you do not want. Here is the world that comes to take its place, as you unbind your mind from little things the world sets forth to keep you prisoner. Value them not, and they will disappear. Esteem them, and they will seem real to you.Such is the choice. What loss can be for you in choosing not to value nothingness? This world holds nothing that you really want, but what you choose instead you want indeed! Let it be given you today. It waits but for your choosing it, to take the place of all the things you seek but do not want.Practice your willingness to make this change ten minutes in the morning and at night, and once more in between. Begin with this:Beyond this world there is a world I want.I choose to see that world instead of this, for here is nothing that I really want. Then close your eyes upon the world you see, and in the silent darkness watch the lights that are not of this world light one by one, until where one begins another ends loses all meaning as they blend in one.Today the lights of Heaven bend to you, to shine upon your eyelids as you rest beyond the world of darkness. Here is light your eyes cannot behold. And yet your mind can see it plainly, and can understand. A day of grace is given you today, and we give thanks. This day we realize that what you feared to lose was only loss. Now do we understand there is no loss. For we have seen its opposite at last, and we are grateful that the choice is made. Remember your decision hourly, and take a moment to confirm your choice by laying by whatever thoughts you have, and dwelling briefly only upon this:The world I see holds nothing that I want.Beyond this world there is a world I want.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

1 Listen, sons, to a father's instruction. Pay attention and know understanding; 2 for I give you sound learning. Don't forsake my law. 3 For I was a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my mother. 4 He taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words. Keep my commandments, and live. 5 Get wisdom. Get understanding. Don't forget, and don't deviate from the words of my mouth. 6 Don't forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you. 7 Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding. 8 Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor when you embrace her. 9 She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you.” 10 Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many. 11 I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths. 12 When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble. 13 Take firm hold of instruction. Don't let her go. Keep her, for she is your life. 14 Don't enter into the path of the wicked. Don't walk in the way of evil men. 15 Avoid it, and don't pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on. 16 For they don't sleep unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall. 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. 18 But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light that shines more and more until the perfect day. 19 The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don't know what they stumble over. 20 My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. 24 Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you. 25 Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you. 26 Make the path of your feet level. Send us Fan MailJob has friends who can quote true things about God all day long, but Job still sits in ashes with no comfort and no explanation. That's where we camp out as we continue our verse by verse Bible study through the Book of Job, focusing on Job 36 and the speech of Elihu. He's younger, louder, and convinced he's defending God's righteousness with “perfect knowledge” on his side. The problem is not that Elihu only says false things. The problem is what happens when true statements get forced into a neat story that doesn't fit the sufferer. We walk through Elihu's claims about God's power, wisdom, justice, and mercy, then slow down when he reframes suffering and affliction as correction. Is hardship always pointing to sin? Is it discipline meant to open our ears? Or can it be something else entirely? Our group discussion tests Elihu's logic against the full context of Job, including the dangerous idea that obedience guarantees prosperity and that pain proves guilt. Along the way, we talk about transgression, repentance, hypocrisy, and what “humility” really means when someone is already crushed. This is a practical conversation for anyone doing Christian discipleship, pastoral care, or simply trying to make sense of suffering without turning God into a formula. We end by naming the tension Elihu never resolves: Job's real “why” is still unanswered until God speaks. Subscribe for the next part, share this with a friend who loves the Book of Job, and leave a review if this study helps you. What's a “true” spiritual line you've heard that still didn't help in pain?Support the showBE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!
Send us Fan MailSomeone can say a lot of true things about God and still miss the moment completely. That's the question driving our deep dive into Elihu's speeches in the Book of Job: are we hearing wise correction, or a softer form of the same accusation Job's friends keep pressing? We argue through the turning point in Job 32 where the narrator says Elihu's anger is kindled against Job, then trace what that anger produces. On one side, Elihu's theology is strong: God is great, God teaches perfectly, no one can accuse God of wrongdoing, and creation itself displays God's power. On the other side, we keep asking the pastoral question: what does any of that do for Job's actual suffering? If the warning is “don't choose sin in affliction,” is Elihu applying a true principle to the wrong person?Along the way, we bring in Job 33 and Job 36, discuss whether Elihu misquotes Job's words, and explore why a “correct” speech can still feel like blame. If you care about Christian suffering, biblical lament, God's sovereignty, and what wise counsel sounds like in real life, this conversation will sharpen how you read Job and how you speak to hurting people.Subscribe for more Bible-centered conversations, share this with a friend who loves Job, and leave a review. Send us Fan MailThunder, clouds, and changing weather sound like small talk until you realize Elihu is using them to make a towering claim: God actively rules the world. We sit with Job 36:30–33 and trace Elihu's argument that the same creation God uses to feed people can also bring storms, harsh seasons, and judgment. That launches us into the deeper issue behind so many conversations about suffering and the sovereignty of God: if God is truly in control, what is a hurting person supposed to do with that truth? We push on a hard question that shows up in real pastoral care and real friendships. Elihu says many correct things about God's power, wisdom, and providence, but does any of it actually help Job's specific situation? We talk through the difference between knowing doctrine and gaining understanding through affliction, and why reminders of God's greatness can feel hollow when someone is “in the toilet” emotionally. We also weigh whether Elihu is simply defending God or whether he is, in fact, accusing Job of pride, empty talk, and even rebellion, just with a more sophisticated tone than the three friends. Along the way, we challenge arguments from silence, ask what it means to “defend God” while you're suffering, and name the tension between right theology and right timing. If you care about the Book of Job, Christian suffering, biblical wisdom, and the question of why the righteous suffer, you'll find plenty here to think through with us. Subscribe for the next chapter, share this with a friend who loves deep Bible study, and leave a review with your take: is Elihu wisdom, misfire, or both?Support the showBE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!
Send us Fan MailElihu's speeches can sound like worship, but they can also feel like a sermon aimed at an open wound. We sat with that tension and argued it out: does Elihu actually accuse Job, or is he doing something “better” than the three friends by framing suffering as correction instead of condemnation? We camped in Job 35:16 and the surrounding logic, because one verse can be both accurate and weaponized, and that difference matters when you're trying to comfort someone in real pain. From there, we zoomed out to what the Book of Job teaches about the way we speak. We talked about how easy it is to hide judgment inside general statements about prosperity, obedience, and God's greatness, and why “right theology” is not the same as a right heart. Several of us connected Job's miserable silence and boils with Jesus' warnings about religious words that sound beautiful while hearts stay far away, and we asked a hard question: are we tending wounds, or just talking? We also explored the bigger backdrop that makes Job so staggering. Scripture hints that God's wisdom is displayed beyond earth, that angelic beings watch and learn, and that faith under suffering may be teaching more than we realize. That reframes endurance, humility, and repentance as public realities in a spiritual sense, even when life feels private and unfair. If you've ever tried to help a hurting friend and worried you might say the wrong thing, this conversation is for you. Action is a high road to self-confidence and esteem.行动,是通往自信与自尊的大道。New Wordsaction [ˈækʃn]n. 行动;行为 v. 行动;做事Taking action every day is the key to learning English well.每天行动起来,是学好英语的关键。self-confidence [ˌself ˈkɒnfɪdəns]n. 自信;自信心Learning English well can help us build self-confidence.学好英语能帮助我们建立自信。esteem [ɪˈstiːm] n. 尊重;自尊 v. 尊重;珍视Every adult can gain esteem through learning English.每个成年人都能通过学习英语获得自尊。Esteem yourself and you will be respected by others.尊重你自己,你会得到别人的尊重。Quote to learn for todayAction is a high road to self-confidence and esteem.——Bruce Lee翻译行动是通往自信与自尊的大道。—— 李小龙更多卡卡老师分享公众号:卡卡课堂 卡卡老师微信:kakayingyu002送你一份卡卡老师学习大礼包,帮助你在英文学习路上少走弯路

In this episode of Exploited: The Cyber Truth, host Paul Ducklin is joined by RunSafe Security CEO Joe Saunders and special guests Mario Zuniga and Matt Janson of MITRE to discuss the “invisible attack surface” lurking within embedded and cyber-physical systems. Drawing on their frontline experience in cyber operations and resiliency engineering, Mario and Matt explain why embedded systems demand a fundamentally different approach to cybersecurity. From limited patching capabilities and long system lifecycles to unique hardware and firmware attack vectors, traditional IT security models fall short in these environments. Together, they discuss: Why embedded systems are often overlooked in cybersecurity strategiesHow attackers exploit firmware, hardware interfaces, and air-gapped environmentsThe challenges of securing systems that must remain operational for decadesThe role of MITRE's embedded threat matrix (ESTEEM) in mapping adversary behaviorWhy resilience—not just prevention—is key to defending critical infrastructure From industrial control systems to national defense, this episode reveals what it takes to secure the technologies that quietly underpin modern society and why the time to act is now.The podcast and artwork embedded on this page are from RunSafe Security, which is the property of its owner and not affiliated with or endorsed by Listen Notes, Inc.

Let all of your ways be established. 27 Don't turn to the right hand nor to the left. Remove your foot from evil. Listen Donate Subscribe: Proverbs Daily Podcast Psalms Daily Podcast
In this episode, I speak with Matt about his work with veterans, PTSD and his research on AI's ability to diagnose mental health disorders. Matt explained that he got into the field of psychotherapy after being a patient, working through his own issues after being in the Marines. He found the process very helpful and went on to become a therapist and initially worked with unhoused populations, psychosis and gang young, but wanted to go into working with veterans and first responders, treating PTSD. He shared that he never intended to go into research, but after doing his dissertation, he thought he might as well publish it, and then was invited to be part of a research group. Matt shared that most of the treatment for veterans is provided by the Veteran's Administration, although they did not hire clinicians with his licensure. He explained that he was fortunate to get connected with an organization called the Head Strong Project that provides services to active duty military and veterans addressing PTSD and suicide prevention. He said that many of his clients often have a history of trauma, in addition to their experience in the military, as well as around 50% of his clients also have comorbid ADHD. Matt discusses the three major evidence based approaches to treating trauma: Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy, & Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. He shares how the dropout rate for PE is 40% and EMDR is not always successful, which might be due to the eye movements and that not being as effective with those in the military, although he doesn't know any research backing that up. Matt explained that he uses CPT and in the approach, the focus is on beliefs or what they refer to as “stuck points”. There may be assimilated “stuck points" that the person has taken from the traumatic experience and over accommodated "stuck points”< which are things that the person now believes and has adjusted their thinking patters as a result of the trauma. He explains the treatment starts off with psycheducation and teaching coping skills, then addressing the “stuck points”. He explained that they help the clients break down thinking patterns from events, then usechallenging questions, identify cognitive distortions, use cognitive reframing, and put this all together into a challenging questions worksheet. He shared that once you have that framework in place, then you follow up on five themes which include: Safety, Trust, Power & Control, Esteem, and Intimacy, then work through stuck points in each of those areas. Finally, you work through the traumatic narrative and what you believed before and what you believe now. We discussed the five themes and how particularly discussed an intervention called the Trust Star, where the person picks aspects of someone's personality, and rates how that leads them to be more trusting of them or less. The breaks out of the all or none thinking around trust. Lastly, we discuss Matt's research into linguistic patterns in different DMS disorders throughout the various editions of the DSM. He also discusses his work group's research into having AI review vignettes and try to arrive at a diagnosis. He reported that Chat GPT did worse than chance, Claude was about as good as chance, and Gemini had a 97% rate of accuracy. We discuss AI and its use related to therapy. Matt Rensi, Ph.D., LPCC, is a licensed counselor in California, Oregon, and Idaho. He holds a Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision, often teaching at various universities. He currently works primarily with law enforcement, veterans, firefighters, and active duty military personnel. His primary focuses are PTSD, substance use, ADHD, marital or couples issues, and anything that may be associated with that cluster of struggles. Matt conducts research on various topics as part of an independent research team. He is a clinical partner with The Headstrong Project and the SOF Network. Matt is also a clinician at the Institute for the Advancement of Psychotherapy and its specialty center, the Bay Area Center for ADHD.

A declining spirit of gratitude is the first warning light that a believer's heart is slipping. Looking to the scriptures, we examine God's clear command to give thanks in everything (1 Thess. 5:18), trace the deadly spiral that begins with ingratitude (Rom. 1:21), and learn how to thank God and the saints around us.Key Scriptures:1 Thessalonians 5:18 – “In every thing give thanks…”Colossians 3:15–17 – Peace ruling, Word dwelling, every act with thanksgiving.Romans 1:21–22 – “Neither were thankful…”2 Timothy 3:2 – “Unthankful” in the last-days list.1 Thessalonians 5:12–13, 18 – Esteem leaders, be at peace, give thanks.Ephesians 1:3 – All spiritual blessings in heavenly places.Psalm 100:4–5 – Israel's thanksgiving (contextual contrast).3-Day Gratitude Reset ChallengeStart any day—finish strong before turkey day!Day 1 (Eph. 5:20): List & read aloud 10 specific spiritual blessings in Christ.Day 2 (Phil. 4:6): Swap every complaint for one thanksgiving prayer.Day 3 (Col. 3:17): Perform one act of service; thank God by name for that person.
1 Listen, sons, to a father's instruction. Pay attention and know understanding; 2 for I give you sound learning. Don't forsake my law. 3 For I was a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my mother. 4 He taught me, and said to me: "Let your heart retain my words. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you." 10 Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. Send us a textIn this episode of the Autonomic Homeostasis Activation Podcast, Tom Pals and Ruth Lorensson continue their exploration of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs through the lens of wellness and trauma-informed wholeness. Focusing on esteem, they unpack what it truly means to “appraise” value—both in ourselves and in others—and how unmet needs and trauma can distort our perception of worth and significance.Through rich conversation and powerful metaphors—like Tom's image of humans as uncut diamonds—they reveal how esteem isn't about hierarchy or status, but about mutual recognition of inherent worth. Together, they examine how physiological, safety, and belonging needs act as catalysts for healthy esteem, and how unmet needs can keep us stuck in cycles of comparison, defensiveness, or exclusion.Listeners will come away with deeper insight into:The roots of esteem as appraisal rather than judgmentHow trauma and unmet needs shape our ability to value ourselves and othersThe difference between worth, significance, and accomplishmentHow to move from sympathetic fight-or-flight into parasympathetic homeostasisPractical reflection prompts for fostering self-worth and mutual significanceJoin Ruth and Tom as they guide listeners toward restoring homeostasis of esteem, a crucial step in the broader journey toward self-actualization and holistic wellness.
