I cannot tell you how special this episode feels to me. Laura Galeazzo — who longtime listeners will remember as the very first guest I ever interviewed back in 2016 — is back on the show, and catching up with her brought everything full circle. When I launched this podcast, I was a young mom with two little kids, newly pregnant with my third, dreaming about building something of my own. Laura said yes to being my very first interview when all I had was a microphone, a simple idea, and a whole lot of belief. Since then, she's lived so much life: she's had two babies, become a real estate agent, coached athletes, and continued to chase big goals with the same quiet determination that made her story so compelling in the first place. She's now a 2:49 marathoner and recently ran a huge half marathon PR, breaking through years of self-doubt to rediscover her confidence. I've watched her navigate seasons of grit, seasons without PRs, and seasons where she just kept showing up for herself — and seeing her run her strongest races yet is incredibly inspiring. It feels so right to have her back on the show all these years later, still getting after it and still reminding us what's possible when you keep going. You'll learn what keeps the most competitive runners going, how they train, and their best advice to excel. Pick up your copy here. I wanted to know: What has he learned from hundreds of conversations with such amazing athletes? What sets them apart? What makes them similar to us? From all he's learned, what would he recommend are the most important pieces of advice for a new runner? What about an experienced, advanced runner?   We're going to discus what he's changed his mind about, what's been most surprising, and who he's learned the most from. "It's seeing the bridge from a distance and saying, ‘There are going to be 55,000 people that are going to traverse over that bridge from 150 countries from all over the world, and from every neighborhood in New York City.' And they've put in months of hard work. We have thousands of people that have raised millions of dollars for charity. There are people that are running for various causes that are inspiring their families, their friends, their neighborhoods, their communities. And most of all, they're inspiring the world. They're inspiring complete strangers as they run by them. And I think about that when I look at that bridge." —Ted Metellus, TCS New York City Marathon Race Director Every year on the first Sunday of November, more than 55,000 runners will take over the five boroughs for one reason: the TCS New York City Marathon. This episode is your unofficial guide to the iconic 26.2-mile race. Two jam-packed hours of New York City Marathon-related information. And this episode isn't just for the marathoners: We have tips for spectators, a breakdown of how to get into the race in the future, and general advice for having your best marathon day. As for my New York City Marathon love affair: This race is my Super Bowl, my Christmas, my birthday, Valentine's Day, my favorite day of the year. It was the first marathon I ever watched, back in 2008, when I went out to cheer for a coworker who was running the race. (Thanks for the inspiration, Therese!) I've run it three times — in 2013, 2014, and 2016 — and volunteered once, in 2015, at a fluid station in Brooklyn. In 2017, I cheered on “First and Fifth,” and in 2018, at three weeks postpartum, going to the New York City Marathon was my first outing since having a baby. I sat in the grandstands as Shalane Flanagan finished third, and pumped in a “fancy” (you know, the nice kind!) finish line porta potty. Then, in 2019, I got the best seat in the house for the first time: New York City Marathon finish line announcer. After announcing at the finish and at the Finish Line After Dark in 2019, 2021, and 2022, in 2023 I made my NYC TV debut. I joined the broadcast talent team as a reporter on the international feed, and was featured on the WABC7 local broadcast. Last year, I was on the ESPN and WABC7 broadcasts at the finish line, interviewing notables including Chelsea Clinton, Casey Neistat, Conner Mantz, Clayton Young, Sara Vaughn, Matt James, and Ilona Maher. This year: They're putting me on ESPN and ABC again! In addition to hosting a live show with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone during New York City Marathon weekend, on race day I'll be part of the ESPN2 and WABC7 broadcasts as a start and finish line reporter from 8 AM until 5 PM. Last fall, my mom and I ran a half marathon together in North Carolina, the first time she'd really laced up again in years. Not long after, I sent her a text about the Chicago Marathon lottery and told her to throw her name in just to see what happens. She wasn't convinced, but she humored me. Months later, she opened her inbox to find an email that started with one word: “Congratulations.” That moment kicked off an entirely new chapter. In this episode, we talk about her first marathon journey, from learning how to train smarter in her 50s to balancing early mornings, long runs, and a full-time job. She shares how getting sick years ago nearly ended her running for good, how she rebuilt her confidence, and what it felt like to finally cross the finish line in Chicago. It's a story about grit, patience, and what happens when a little lottery luck and a slightly pushy daughter change everything. Follow along with the show:

"People can say whatever they want. But at the end of the day, I know what my bigger picture is. I know what my why is here. And so I'm just going to really try and stick to that knowing I feel very confident in what I'm trying to do, even if people might not understand it right now. It's all just a process, baby." Next weekend, Molly Seidel will run the TCS New York City Marathon — her first marathon in two years. But the Molly who will be lining up in Staten Island this year is very different from the fresh-off-earning-an-Olympic-bronze-medal Molly who ran it in 2021. (Her 2:24:42 is still the fastest time run by an American woman in NYC.) In this conversation, Molly talks about the highs from the past few years, including that fourth-place finish in New York City in 2021 and an eighth-place finish and personal best (2:23:07) at the Chicago Marathon in 2023. She also talks about the lows, including what was going on behind the scenes during those races, injuries, mental health struggles, and sponsorship changes. She offers updates on her new coach, her new home base, her new relationship, and her new relationship with running, and talks all about her training, mindset, and goals for race day in New York City. They discuss how he manages the significant challenge of balancing the physical demands of his gardening job with hitting key marathon sessions and long runs. Chris emphasizes the value of the structure provided by his coach, Josh Harris, noting that it's a huge relief to "just open Final Surge and here's what I'm doing today," allowing him to eliminate mental fatigue. This contrasts sharply with his early "self-devised" approach, highlighting the mental and physical shift required for a successful debut. Finally, the discussion focuses on the Melbourne Marathon debut itself. Chris shares some of the big workouts he's tackled, which his coach confirms have prepared him perfectly, carrying early-season form into the final taper. They discuss his race strategy, including his target time before wrapping up with a look at his race day gear and a profound question: what will success truly look like for him when he crosses the finish line at the Melbourne Cricket Ground? With thanks to Oat Running our partner, Chris will be gifted some Oat Running Socks.Listeners of the show can get a a 15% discount using "run2pb15" at the check out. "In life and in marathons, whoever can overcome those challenges the best — it's not about not having challenges, because you are going to have them — it's about responding to them, being resilient, learning from them, inspiring other people, and sharing that with others." Jordan Hasay competed at her first Olympic Trials when she was in high school. After graduating, she attended the University of Oregon, where she became an 18-time All American. She immediately signed with Nike to kick off her professional track career.
