Erin's Podcast "The Fit Within": https://open.spotify.com/show/4HKE34z0sMy5XfOxv0Uhid?si=mbPhG0BITMGfVDqeXvt3KQ Dr. Joe Dispenza (@drjoedispenza) Lecture:https://www.instagram.com/tv/CKW8PR7Blw2/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Erin’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/killenitfitness/ An interview with Erin Killen of @KillenItFitness and “The Fit Within Podcast”. Learn about her personal fitness journey and how everything changed once she shifted her mindset. How is mindest connected to our fitness? - A fitness journey is incomplete without a mental journey- We cannot rely on external things to bring us lasting happiness, we need to look internally.- Dr. Joe Dispenza (@drjoedispenza) helped Erin step out of her comfort zone and get past her limiting beliefs. - Connecting to yourself means taking the time to learn about yourself, establish a routine, and talk to your inner child. Observe how your thoughts and how other people affect you. - Once you connect with yourself, you have the ability to create your best self. Creating the life that you want is possible. What Erin did to make the leap from practicing mindfulness to living it: - She entered into a state of absorbing. She read a lot more books. She observed her thoughts, feelings and reactions. How we create our reality affects how we act and feel. - You are not defined by how you’re feeling. It’s an emotion, energy in motion -- It’s going to pass.- Shift from ‘doing’, the hustle, to a focus on being present. Being in control of your life means embracing your creative self. This is the self that will help to create your future. What are some things Erin does to feel present? - She makes her inner strength a priority. It’s about rewiring our minds to create a new reality. It takes a lot of work and constant upkeep. - “Just like we would work out our bodies, we need to work out our minds too. We clean our bodies, and we need to clean our minds as well, but we tend to be so judgemental when it comes time to clean the mind.”- “It’s about finding how you can clean your mind. How you can strengthen your mind and take care of it just like you take care of your body so it doesn’t become a barrier to your life, but rather a gate to success.”- When faced with a situation, train your mind to think, “How can I respond to this moment, instead of react to it?” Reacting keeps us from experiencing things. You can take a pause and don’t need to react to everything. - “Every single time I choose to be here fully, no matter what I do, I’m teaching myself to be here fully within everything else. We’re taught how to not be there fully all the time.”- Lots of people start the mental work, but it doesn’t stick for longer than a week. Give yourself grace. Erin’s secret? Stop Trying. - “I don’t have to try. I just have to be. I don’t have to go get my joy, I am my joy. It’s already here. My health, my wellness, everything that I desire to have is already within me, the only thing that’s blocking it is all of this resistance and all of this trying. I already am strong within. I already am good. My core is good, and the only thing that is disconnecting me from that is trying to be something else.”- Let go of things that are not serving you. “Creating change, so often, has nothing to do with what you need to add, but it has to do with what you need to release.” - Shed mental weight and look within. Only you can raise your vibration and be your own joy. How can people raise their vibrations? - Inspiration is your fuel. Find what inspires you. What inspired you when you were young? It probably still inspires you now. - Think, ‘What actually makes me happy?’ Not, ‘What should I do?’. What ignites the inspiration in my soul? - Structure your day around your inspiration. Prioritize it.- “Find something that ignites your soul, and let’s prioritize that. Let’s make every action you take during the day be backed up with your fire, your inspiration for life.”- It’s about maintaining control. When you wake up, there are a lot of external problems and opinions thrown at you. If you start the day with the goal of fueling your inspiration, passion, desires, and who we actually are -- we approach the world with inner strength and inner peace. - Give yourself grace. Do the best with what you are given. The only thing you can do right now is make the best of what you have. Our favorite girls are 20 minutes delayed than their usual broadcast time. The reason? Well, they forgot to set the alarm and started their day 2.5 hours later than their normal routine. But, no sweat! Instead of scrambling around feeling frustrated, they take ownership of their mistake. Today, they forgo the coffee and settle for easy-prep lemon water to start the show. By taking a deep calming breath and scheduling their priorities, Erin and Sarit still manage to give everyone key takeaways even if this particular podcast is only about 10 minutes long. In life, you will always encounter setbacks. No matter how hard you plan, things happen, keeping you off track. When your plans don't go as you expected, don't beat yourself up over it. Instead, stay positive and remember that everything in life always happens for a reason. Show Notes: In today's episode, we talk about: What Erin and Sarit do every time things don't go as they planned, leaving them externally crunched for time. Why you must take ownership when things go wrong because only you have the power to make things right. How just because the details started in chaos, doesn't mean it also has to end in chaos if you focus on the best intentions. Why establishing an order of operations matters when you are pressed for time, so you can still accomplish your responsibilities. What steps you can take to avoid going sideways when something unexpected happens that's beyond your control. Why everything happens on purpose, so find out what it is and keep an open mind to avoid feeling frustrated. Why "failing to plan is planning to fail" is an important saying that you should live by. We talk about a lot of things that people don’t want to talk about or even hear. Still, they are very real, challenging, and difficult circumstances surrounding pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. It’s important to share these stories because these difficulties become a reality for many people. Today’s show focuses on birth trauma and breastfeeding as we hear our guest’s personal account. Erin Northrup is a mom of four busy children, ranging in age from 2-10. She lives in Atlantic Canada, where she enjoys spending time in nature with her family. With the birth of her oldest child, Jack, she experienced birth trauma, and this experience sparked her passion for researching trauma. Erin holds a bachelor’s in Psychology and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Health Services Research. Her current research explores the experience of breastfeeding after birth trauma. Her own experience of breastfeeding after birth trauma inspired her to become a volunteer with a breastfeeding support organization offering community-based, peer to peer breastfeeding support. She is committed to raising awareness of the intersection of birth trauma, breastfeeding, and perinatal mental health. Show Highlights: Erin’s birth trauma experience with the birth of her son, Jack, now 10 How her Ob prepared her to have a C-section because of an ambiguous condition How Erin’s water broke a week early, and her spinal didn’t take, so the C-section proceeded under general anesthesia, while Erin felt dissociated from the entire experience In recovery, she was told that her son was taken to the NICU because of low blood sugar, and she couldn’t see him yet How Erin’s mom, a physician, stepped in to advocate for Erin to see her son While eating breakfast a few hours after the birth, Erin felt a popping sensation in her incision and felt a gush of blood Erin was rushed back to the OR, and the spinal worked this time while Erin cried on the table--all of this was before she had even held her baby How Erin was repeatedly spoken about like she wasn’t even in the room; she felt like her input wasn’t even important When Erin got home, survival mode kicked in, and she regretted not advocating more strongly for herself How Erin questioned whether or not her son was even the right baby, worrying that a mix-up could have occurred in the hospital because neither she nor her husband witnessed his birth How she determined to “make it up” to her son by breastfeeding him How the Ob told her at two months postpartum that her condition should not have warranted a C-section in the first place---which just made everything worse How Erin felt an erosion of trust in her doctors and the medical system How Erin asked where the growth and meaning was in her situation and how she could use her experience to help others Erin applied to a Master’s program and went on to have three more kids with positive birth experiences How Erin found support for breastfeeding What Erin has found in her research by asking mothers about their experience with birth trauma and breastfeeding The magnitude of the response she has received, but the difficulty in hearing the painful stories of birth trauma The results from Erin’s research: Birth trauma is destabilizing to the breastfeeding process because of the physical and emotional pain in childbirth and the postpartum from mistreatment The importance of trauma-informed care How women with these experiences feel like the trauma is somehow their fault What care providers should be aware of in their work Resources: Instagram: Live Learn Lactate

Coming out of her own marriage, Erin Williamson, 39, of Seattle, realized that because she did not have equal income in her marriage, she did not share equal power. So she set out not only to change her own financial autonomy, but committed to ensuring that women around the globe also have equal access to financial capital — typically for work they are already doing, but are not paid for. "Direct access to money can mean power, freedom, choice, and for those being oppressed by domestic violence, a woman's access to money can mean life," the mom of two told me. Erin is the founder of Pier Coffee, a cold-brew coffee company that buys 100 percent of its beans from women-owned farms. She is also the founder of Engendered International, a non-profit organization that provides certification to companies that prove: Percentage of supply-chain workers who are women Percentage of supply-chain companies owned by women Work within countries that do not place legal restrictions on economic opportunities for women and advocacy to change laws in countries that do Proof of payment directly to female workers along a supply-chain Charitable donations or support of organizations fighting against domestic violence Wage parity between men and women in the companies along a supply chain Proof of investment in education and training for women and girls In this Like a Mother interview, Kickass Single Mom Grant winner Erin Williamson shares with me: How she launched her cold-brew coffee company Pier Coffee in her laundry room, and why she committed to only buying coffee beans from women-owned farms. Her advice to moms who feel broke, lost and no idea how to launch their own passion company. Where she found the energy to launch a non-profit at the same time she struggled to grow a new business. What Erin learned about money, power and romance through her marriage, divorce and single motherhood. How she feels about men and dating today. Where she finds her support network.

Erin McNeaney and Simon Fairbairn sold it all to travel indefinitely. In 2008, they took a year to go to travel around India, South East Asia, Australia, the South Pacific and the US, and after seeing and doing so much in just a year, they couldn’t stand to return to their lives in the UK. So, rather than put off travel for someday, they made that day March 1, 2010, and left to spend a year in South America, with just carry-on backpacks and no end in sight. Together they’ve defined what living means to them and created a life of travel they write about on their popular travel blog NeverEndingVoyage.com, where they document their journeys, the challenges, launching a travel app, and embracing the untethered life as a digital nomad couple.
