Peak Human - Unbiased Nutrition Info for Optimum Health, Fitness & Living

After a short break, Peak Human returns with a powerful conversation about one of the biggest problems in modern healthcare: the sick care system. For decades, the system has been structured around treating illness rather than maintaining health. Incentives are misaligned across the entire industry—from insurance companies and employers to doctors and digital health startups. Despite technological advances, healthcare costs continue rising while population health declines. In this episode, Anil, a scientist, investor, and systems thinker, introduces a bold alternative: the Lifespan Model. Drawing on experience in biotechnology, Silicon Valley startups, digital health investing, and incentive design, Anil explains how healthcare could be rebuilt around the simple idea that people should be rewarded for keeping others healthy. Instead of replacing the current system overnight, the Lifespan Model proposes a parallel structure—one that aligns financial incentives with longevity, prevention, and long-term wellbeing. If implemented, this model could transform healthcare from a trillion-dollar illness industry into a system that actually rewards health.   SHOW NOTES: 00:00 – Peak Human Returns & Show Updates 04:30 – Anil's Background in Science and Startups 08:30 – Systems Thinking and Incentive Design 10:30 – Why the Healthcare System Is Broken 14:30 – The Incentive Problem in Medicine 17:00 – Employer-Based Health Insurance Issues 19:00 – Why Digital Health Hasn't Fixed Healthcare 21:00 – The Technologist's Journey Through Healthcare 23:30 – How Incentives Shape Entire Systems 26:00 – Introducing the Lifespan Model 29:30 – Learning From the Life Insurance Industry 33:00 – Aligning Financial Incentives With Health 36:30 – The Role of Lifespan Agents 40:00 – Technology's Role in Preventive Health 43:00 – Building a Parallel Health System 47:00 – Challenges to Implementing the Model 51:00 – The Future of Healthcare Incentives   BEEF TALLOW PRODUCTS: NosetoTail.org Preorder the film here: http://indiegogo.com/projects/food-lies-post    Film site: http://FoodLies.org YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/FoodLies   Follow along: http://twitter.com/FoodLiesOrg http://instagram.com/food.lies http://facebook.com/FoodLiesOrg

Send a textWant to see your PDFs think like a database and your chatbots answer with context, not guesses? We sit down with technologist and entrepreneur Max Riggsbee Jr., co-founder of Gadget Software, to unpack how compute-ready documents—what he calls semantic twins—turn unstructured content into structured, queryable knowledge that both humans and machines can trust. Max explains why simply chunking PDFs into a chatbot loses meaning, and how deep descriptors, QA pairs, and entity maps let you navigate ideas, not just pages. We go inside directed AI, where you choose the exact slices of content a model can touch, then generate summaries, outlines, or tables grounded in that selection. Max shares results from work with Signal65, Dell, and Broadcom showing fewer hallucinations, faster token throughput, and better energy use when AI is fed structured, contextual data. From there, we get practical about agentic workflows: the validator checks you need before any output ships downstream, and why human-in-the-loop review still matters. Max's “Georgia” test—person, state, country, or font—reveals how ambiguity explodes without metadata. He also breaks down a real failure in a political cartoon pipeline where an agent inferred a story from SEO slugs instead of reading the article, and how guardrails caught it.Our conversation widens to legacy and Black history. Grant traces family records from enslavement to land ownership, underscoring how caricatures like Jim Crow distort truth when they calcify into the story we're told. Maxwell introduces Then Is Now, the audio diary project he runs with his 90-year-old father, using authentic voice recordings and AI to frame the surrounding historical context. We talk about scanning non-digital originals like the Pentagon Papers as a stepping stone to microfiche, county archives, and the overlooked documents that can restore names, places, and property to the record. On the technical edge, Max shows how rich textual descriptions can stand in for heavy images, enabling vision models to re-render diagrams on demand, making insights lighter and more scalable. If you work with unstructured data, lead AI projects, or care about preserving the story with accuracy, this conversation gives you a roadmap: structure your sources, validate your agents, and keep humans in charge of meaning. This week we are joined by Claire Ward- a senior product technologist. This episode is a particularly special one for us. Claire, Kate and Lyns all met right at the very beginning of our careers at Accessorize, learning the ropes of retail together  so recording this felt like a real full-circle moment. We start by reminiscing about those early days before diving into the journey Claire has taken since, building an impressive career across some of the UK's best-known fashion brands including Accessorize, Debenhams, Dorothy Perkins, Mint Velvet and Hush.Claire shares how she moved from being a creative student into the world of product technology and explains why the role is far more influential than many people realise. She lifts the lid on what a product technologist actually does day-to-day  from fit, construction and fabric performance to safety testing, compliance and quality assurance  and how they quietly protect both the customer and the business.A particularly fascinating part of Claire's journey came when she took a year out after Debenhams to work in Uganda with nonprofit organisation Acoa, which employed Ugandan women to produce jewellery and homeware for the US market. Hired as a product development manager, she quickly discovered she was the only person in the organisation with manufacturing or fashion experience and had to build the role from scratch. Acting as the bridge between US designers and the Ugandan production team, Claire created early samples, refined products for scalable production and introduced more efficient manufacturing methods. From visiting local markets to trace dye sources, to sourcing compliant suppliers in Kampala and investing in tooling for cowhorn craftsmen, the work was deeply hands-on and problem-solving led. Claire talks honestly about why tech teams can sometimes be undervalued despite preventing costly mistakes, reducing returns and improving customer trust. Along the way she shares real-world stories from factories in India to Christmas decorations that accidentally became classified as toys, highlighting how problem-solving sits at the heart of the job.Ultimately this episode is a reminder that behind every great product is a technologist making sure it works, lasts and is safe to sell — often without anyone ever knowing.Three Key TakeawaysProduct technologists are more than fit checkers. They bring expertise in fabric, manufacturing, construction and compliance that can save businesses significant money through reduced returns, improved consumption and stronger quality perception.Involve tech from the beginning. The strongest products happen when technologists are part of development from day one, working alongside buyers and designers to prevent problems before they become costly mistakes.Communication and respect are everything. Great buyer-tech partnerships rely on clear communication, mutual respect and understanding each other's KPIs — when tech stays commercial and buyers listen to risk, everyone wins, especially the customer.Support the showIf you've liked this episode please rate, follow, subscribe and share :) - and if you already have, thank you!Follow us @buyingandbeyond on Instagram Send us a DM or email hello@buyingandbeyond.co.uk Find out more about us www.buyingandbeyond.co.uk If you'd like to show a little more love, then head here to give us just a little bit *extra* and show us your support :) thank you! https://www.buzzsprout.com/2300060/support

An erratic President, a bungled raid on American cities, two fatal shootings by ICE agents, a massive protest by thousands of citizens in Minneapolis and other US cities, and flood of dishonest and misleading statements by Presidential aides and cabinet members: the United States begins 2026 in utter turmoil. Technologist and author Ramez Naam joins the Futurists to share his perspective on the political unrest in American civil society and the collapse of governance norms. Are populist forces fighting against a future defined by accelerating change? Is this a desperate attempt to restore society to a mythical past that never existed? Or is something more sinister afoot? What are the long term effects, domestically and internationally? The discussion includes a range of views on American chaos and some lively debate about the long term implications.

Guest: Jonni Jordyn — “A Lifetime of Artistry: Music, Storytelling & The Evolution of a Creator” Jonni Jordyn — The Many Lives of a Creator: Music, Film, and the Art of Reinvention. A lifetime of creativity — one extraordinary story at a time. Miss Liz doesn't serve a beverage; she serves real-life changemakers. On December 16th, she serves Jonni Jordyn, an award-winning American author whose creative journey spans music, filmmaking, acting, photography, technology, and now bold, imaginative novels. Born in Oakland, California, in 1957, Jonni began creating at an early age: playing music at two, acting and singing in grade school, writing poetry and stories in high school, and exploring film and visual arts in college. Her life has been a continuous arc of expression, curiosity, and reinvention. After decades as a musician performing with legendary artists of the ‘60s and ‘70,s Jonni shifted into novel writing later in life while travelling and rediscovering her voice on the page. Her award-winning work includes The Alpha and Omega of All Viruses, a gripping and brilliantly layered novel blending science, suspense, creativity, and deep imagination. A proud autistic creator, she embraces her truth and her neurodivergent perspective with strength and authenticity. Burgundy fills her closet, royal blue is her fiancé's favorite on her, and her life can be summed up in three powerful identities: Technologist. Musician. Novelist. Watch LIVE or catch the replay on all Miss Liz Teatime platforms. Miss Liz pours a cup of creativity, resilience, and lifelong artistry with Jonni Jordyn, an award-winning author whose life reads like a symphony of reinvention.Born in Oakland and now living in Colorado, Jonni has lived many lives: musician, actress, photographer, technologist, poet, filmmaker, and now novelist. She began playing music at age two, performed with iconic artists of the sixties and seventies, and wrote poetry and visual work published in literary magazines while in college. Her creative path has been bold, diverse, and limitless. Her transition to novels began years later, sparked by a blank piece of paper and the question, “How can I possibly write more than eleven thousand words?” The answer became 160,000, and the start of an extraordinary new chapter.Jonni's award-winning novel The Alpha and Omega of All Viruses showcases her ability to merge imagination, science, and story into worlds that captivate. Her fiancé says she should be more humble, but her achievements confirm one truth: Jonni Jordyn is successful in every sense of the word. We will explore creativity, neurodiversity, storytelling, music, reinvention, and the beautiful chaos of a mind filled with ideas. This will be an inspiring, creative, and deeply human Teatime with Jonni Jordyn, a conversation rich in artistry, honesty, and reinvention.Tonight, Jonni reminded us that creativity is not a single path; it is a lifetime of passions, risks, restarts, and triumphs. Her journey from musician to novelist, from filmmaking to fiction, from blank pages to award-winning books, shows the power of persistence, curiosity, and staying true to one's voice. Her perspective as a neurodivergent artist added depth, truth, and brilliance to every reflection she poured into tonight's conversation.Thank you, Jonni, for gifting Teatime with your colour, courage, and creativity. And thank you to our viewers live and on replay for being part of this ripple. Jonni Jordyn is an award-winning author, technologist, and former professional musician. That program, dubbed the U.S. Tech Force, is being spearheaded by the Office of Personnel Management and has buy-in from private-sector tech companies that will serve as partners in the hiring initiative. The first cohort of recruits will be roughly 1,000 individuals who will range from early-career data scientists and engineers to engineering managers from the private sector. According to a release from OPM, their mission will be to accelerate AI adoption in government and fulfill a priority of the Trump administration. On a call with reporters Monday, OPM Director Scott Kupor said the goal of the program isn't to get workers to commit to “a 40-year career in federal government.” While that's welcome, he said, the aim is to “get the benefit of really smart people working on some of the world's most complex and difficult problems” and provide them with an opportunity, if they so choose, to then go work in the private sector. More than two dozen technology companies have already agreed to Tech Force partnerships, including Amazon Web Services, Meta, Microsoft, xAI, Anduril, Nvidia, Oracle, Adobe and ServiceNow. Those companies have not made firm agreements to hire program alumni but can do so in line with their needs, Kupor said. The commitment that OPM has made to those partners, he said, is “to do a great job of recruiting fantastic people.” The White House and Office of Personnel Management shared more details last Wednesday about the effort to transition federal government HR platforms to a single system, outlining a timeline and expectations. In a memo to agency leaders, Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought and OPM Director Scott Kupor said the transition portion of the administration's “Federal HR 2.0” project will take place over the next two years, with some agencies coming online earlier than others. Agencies must also stop current projects related to their current systems unless they have an exception. Kupor said in an emailed statement with the memo: “For too long, taxpayers have footed the bill for duplicative HR systems that no modern organization would tolerate. Today's announcement is a major win for efficiency, accountability, and good government.” The memo is the latest action in the Trump administration's push to centralize HR systems as a way of saving money. Per the document, the government currently has more than 100 “core human capital management” systems, and the administration expects that consolidating those systems — as well as HR services — will save billions. ** I'd be so grateful if you'd take five minutes and answer our annual survey. It'll help me make the show better for you!  **Hey folks, it's Thanksgiving weekend here in the US and it's the time of year when we think about what we're grateful for, so today I'm re-sharing some words from perhaps the most grateful person I've ever had on the show. Kelsey Hightower is a legendary developer. And he has an incredible story. He went from sleeping in his car to becoming a pioneer in the Kubernetes world, a distinguished engineer at Google, and then... he retired. At the age of 42. Because he wanted to have more impact on the world than he thought he could have by advancing up the career ladder. So here are 15 minutes of my original interview with him, because some of the things he said — not about tech, but about humanity, gratitude, and prioritizing what matters — have really stuck with me.Here's the full interview, originally released in July 2024. We cover a lot, including how he became so good at live demos, why emotion is the key to great software — and storytelling — and how it's those “boring innovations” and mindset shifts you need to make as a technologist that will take you from “hello, world” to “hello, revenue.” ---Featured voices:Kelsey Hightower: "Retired, not tired" former distinguished engineer at Google and Kubernetes PioneerMe (Dan Blumberg) — I'm the host of CRAFTED. and the founder of Modern Product Minds. They also discuss how to best attract technologists to enforcement and regulation jobs; tips for technologists seeking to better communicate with those lawyers, compliance experts, and others in government with less technology background; and how this all fits into the future of AI, technology, and state and broader regulation. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare.
