Beeld, Rapport, City Press, Daily Sun, Soccer Laduma, and the digital versions of Volksblad, Die Burger Oos-Kaap, and the digital hub SNL24 are among the print editions that are being axed.—They will be switching to being available exclusively online. The media landscape in South Africa will change if these legendary newspapers stop publishing in print. This is because digital news consumption is becoming more and more popular worldwide, severely reducing the circulation of print media and advertising revenue. What is the future of journalism and news in South Africa? Afcon Semi-Final Delmain Faver | Journalist with Soccer Laduma The 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast has reached the semi-final stage with the remaining teams two wins away from getting their hands on the AFCON trophy. The first semi-final pits three-times AFCON winners Nigeria against South Africa. The Super Eagles beat Angola 1-0 in the quarter-finals, whilst South Africa drew 0-0 against Cape Verde before winning 2-1 in a penalty shootout. The second semi sees hosts Ivory Coast take on DR Congo. Ivory Coast have had a dramatic journey to the semi-finals, with a last minute winner against Mali in the quarters despite playing half of the game with ten men. DR Congo saw off Guinea with a comfortable 3-1 win to make it into the final four. All four remaining teams have previously won AFCON, but it is DR Congo that have gone the longest without getting their hands on the trophy having last won the competition in 1974.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"With all the drama surrounding Kaizer Chiefs' request to the Premier Soccer League to postpone its five matches in December due to the Covid-19 outbreak at the club which saw 31 people testing positive including players. PSL is yet to respond publicly to Chiefs' request and has left everyone in the dark about what is the way forward after Chiefs failed to honor its home game and Cape Town City had to turn at the locked gates. Jounalists have been left frustrated with this lack of communication and Soccer Laduma journalist Mazola Molefe weighs in on this.”

He looked at the start of the new season from a coaching element and what the PSL clubs are lacking."

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) & the South African Football Association (SAFA) have been under the microscope since the suspension of football in March of this year, and once again the apparent rift between football's governing bodies has come under scrutiny. The disagreement is over the date & venues for the proposed resumption of the Absa Premiership & GladAfrica Championship. The PSL's hopes for a July 18th return were rejected by SAFA, and PSL supporters are growing frustrated with the continued divide. One Fan told vented his frustrations on SL Radio's Fan Reaction Show; “SAFA & The PSL are playing with us. Why don't they sit and discuss amongst themselves, and then come back and tell us the conclusion?” “The only problem in RSA football is SAFA, even the poor performance of our national team. PSL is more competent than SAFA", said Sizwe in Soccer Laduma's Facebook comments section. The PSL looks set to resume early August, although details have yet to be confirmed as to when and how, with Gauteng being touted as the most popular province to host the bio-bubble format conclusion. The Brazilians have been tracking Cape Town City’s left-back, Edmilson Dove for quite some time now and the Siya crew reported in February this year that they may have a fight on their hands should they want to pursue the player, as there is also growing interest from Portugal. Soccer Laduma Radio — Premier Soccer League club owners are guarded about pressing the panic button just yet, but they are fearful of the aftermath of the Coronavirus on their bread and butter. Experts say that the real effects of the pandemic on the Beautiful Game will be felt months down the line – if the domestic league does not resume by early June – but what can be said with certainty is that the economy will be fragile! In addition, Moody’s downgrade has added unnecessary pressure on Mzansi’s already vulnerable financial state. What does this mean for sponsorships in football? Will it cause clubs to go bust and cause a multi-million rand industry to collapse? In this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma the Siya crew asked some probing questions to PSL CEO Mata Madlala.
