TwoOhSix.com presents the first ever TwoOhSix Podcast Series, Diversity in Film: Conversations from Within the Industry. AnnaLynne McCord is an American actress, writer, director and producer. She is a model, a TEDx speaker, an advocate, and an activist. My conversation with AnnaLynne goes deep into her own personal journeys with diversity in film, mental health, and sexual assault and how those experiences have had an impact on her life and career. It was amazing and emotional to listen as she talked about how who she was as a person and what she was going through in life had a major impact and influence on the characters she created for films like Excision and A Soldier's Revenge. AnnaLynne also discusses her involvement in the global fight against human trafficking as a co-founder of Together1heart with Somaly Mam as well as the upcoming virtual relaunch of The Love Storm. Human trafficking is a cause I feel very strongly about having participated in fund raising efforts a few years ago so having an opportunity to speak with AnnaLynne about that and about diversity in film was an opportunity I am very thankful to have had. Overall, this was such an honest and intimate conversation about some very important topics and also a perfect way to wrap up this interview series. Diversity in Film: Conversations from Within the Industry is hosted by TwoOhSix.com founder Marc Morin and features conversations with actors, directors, producers, film critics and more all discussing their thoughts on diversity in an industry that has been in need of some new perspectives and fresh voices. The podcast series launches on Monday, May 11th and will continue weekly with new episodes released every Monday.

Erika Lynne is a leading international expert in Human Sex Trafficking and Associate Director and Founder of Traffick Shadow. Her stories show how prevalent trafficking is around the world, the level of danger involved, and how sophisticated traffickers have become. After being exposed to the reality of human sex trafficking for years, Erika understands this topic at a deeper level than most. She’s practical about the current, abhorrent situation and driven to provide education to prevent future trafficking About the Guest: Erika Lynne Burney MBA MPH. I went to the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, and received my B.S. in Psychology and Sociology. I went to Nova Southeastern University- Ft. Lauderdale and received a Masters in Business and a Masters of Public Health. I began conducting research in human trafficking in 2010. My research exposed the need for education about human sex trafficking as a means to derail, deter and destroy this global epidemic. I have done extensive work in human sex trafficking, both nationally and internationally. Most recently, I was in Cambodia working for AFESIP, Somaly Mam's (a global human trafficking icon) foundation. Other locations I have worked are Thailand, Vietnam and Australia. In October 2019 I started a 501c3 organization called "Traffick Shadow" in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The focus of the organization is to offer education and awareness of the insidious truth behind human sex trafficking. I offer programs, training, and workshops that are audience specific. For example, law enforcement training is different from training for health professionals. This is due to the nature of contact and the capacity of action that they have with potential victims, traffickers, current victims, and survivors. These are available at social, community, and government levels. Schools, service organizations, healthcare groups, and law enforcement agencies are some places this sort of information can make a proactive change. On this week's episode of the podcast, my niece, Carmen Phillips, joins me to share her recent experience in Cambodia doing Humanitarian work through Youthlinc and Utah State University. It was so great having Carmen on the show. After hearing about her experience in Cambodia, I thought a lot about what Tracy L'Herisson shared with us in episode 037 of the podcast. If you recall, Tracy and other Transcendental Meditation practitioners traveled to Cambodia during the rein of the Khmer Rouge to participate in group meditation there.  Their goal was to help alleviate some of the suffering in the region by bringing a level of coherence to the collective field of consciousness during that horrific time period. Before the interview, Carmen and I talked about what direction we wanted to go with the show. As you can imagine, she had a lot of emotionally charged experiences while she was there, like visiting The Killing Fields Museum. Rather than focus on these experiences, we chose to focus on the positive things that groups like Youthlinc and other humanitarian organizations are doing in the area to help the Cambodian people. In addition to giving us a glimpse into the work they did there, Carmen talked about the joy she experienced from connecting with the Cambodian people and helping them improve their village and their lives. I came away from this interview with a new perspective on the region and feeling very fortunate to live in The United States where we have opportunities and luxuries that aren't available in other parts of the world. I was filled with lot's of gratitude and appreciation, that I'm sure will stick around for quite some time. Thank you Carmen for sharing your experience with us! Somaly Mam is on the line today. She is the Cambodian anti-sex trafficking activist who came to prominence a few years ago as celebrities in the west rallied around her and her organization. That all came crashing down this year when Newsweek published a cover story calling into question the credibility of her amazing personal story, which includes escaping from the sex trade herself. She was ousted from the organization that bears her name and was tarnished by some of her closest allies. Then, in September, Marie Claire published an article calling into question some of the claims of that Newsweek takedown, suggesting that key details were incorrect.  So what is the real story? I don't know. The point of this interview was not to engage in a back and forth with Somaly about whether or not she fabricated claims about past. Rather, I was interested in learning what she is up to now, and how this controversy has affected her personally and her work rescuing girls from the sex trade. To be honest, I'm not sure I succeeded. It was a tough interview. I'll let you decide.
