Elliot Rodger didn't see himself as a killer. He saw himself as the victim. Ignored. Rejected. Overlooked. He spent a lot of time online playing games like World of Warcraft and Halo. While there's no proof that specific games caused his behavior, his lifestyle became more isolated. His world was more about watching than living. He became more focused on status and appearance. He grew more resentful of other men and more hostile toward women. At the same time, he believed he was superior. In then end, he killed six people and injured fourteen others. Find out more about what happened on Saturday, March 28, 2026! On May 23, 2014, 22-year-old Elliot Rodger, a self-proclaimed "incel," went on a killing spree in Isla Vista, California, murdering six people and injuring fourteen others before turning the gun on himself. But this wasn't a snap decision or a moment of lost control - it was the meticulously planned culmination of years of seething entitlement, sexual frustration, and rage against women who wouldn't sleep with him. Elliot left behind a 137-page manifesto titled "My Twisted World," countless YouTube videos, and a legacy that would birth an entire online subculture of so-called "incels"— involuntary celibates who worship him as a martyr. He didn't just commit mass murder. He created a blueprint for lonely, bitter men to blame women for their own failures, to weaponize their rejection, and to turn sexual inadequacy into violent ideology. This is the story of Elliot Rodger—the incel king, the self-proclaimed "supreme gentleman," and the pathetic little narcissist who couldn't get laid so he decided everyone else should die. To understand the oppressive nature of the word slut and the social concept behind it, we have to understand how its meaning evolved.Slut began like many English words: neutral, then pejorated into a slur for girls and women. Linguist Amanda Montell, in Wordslut, traces how gender-neutral or positive words shift into insults for women. Bitch once referred to genitals or animals before narrowing to “bossy woman.” Hauswif (female head of household) became housewife and then hussy. Meanwhile, terms for men — sir, mister — stayed honorable, while madam and mistress became sexualized.Middle English slutte meant a slovenly person of any gender. By the 1700s it signified a messy girl or wife; by the 1900s it became sexual. Use of slut soared in the 1970s, paralleling the rise of mass-market porn. The pattern is clear: men historically controlled communication — pulpits, presses, publishing, and porn — shaping language to reflect patriarchal norms.Today's meaning centers the accuser: an allegedly immoral woman who has “too much” sex or simply looks sexual. It frames sexual freedom as a lack of self-respect and dehumanizes girls and women, especially women with intersecting marginalized identities. Meanwhile, patriarchal cultures reward male promiscuity while condemning women's.Why? Because controlling women's sexuality once meant controlling reproduction — and therefore property and power. As societies shifted to agriculture, paternity certainty upheld male dominance. Punishing “promiscuous” women maintained that control. So why does this persist today? Sociolinguistics shows that language reflects and reinforces power. Montell highlights sexist defaults across English: female doctor, male nurse, manslut versus slut. The unmarked norm is male; women are the deviation.Feminist philosopher Marilyn Frye defines oppression through double binds: whatever women choose, they lose. Dress attractively and risk slut-shaming; dress modestly and risk dismissal. Iris Marion Young expands this into the “five faces of oppression”: exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and violence. The slut stereotype intersects with all five. Violence appears in misogynist mass murders by Elliot Rodger, Chris Harper-Mercer, and others who blamed women's sexual autonomy. Powerlessness shows up in everyday self-censorship around clothing, behavior, and ambition. Online, weak legal protections for revenge porn and deepfakes disproportionately harm girls and women, sometimes forcing them to uproot their lives.Cultural imperialism — or hegemonic “mind colonization” — surfaces when people internalize the attitudes that oppress them. As Allan Johnson argues, patriarchy is a system we all absorb: expectations about sexual availability, male entitlement, and female self-doubt seep into everyone raised within it.So what do we do? One approach is reclamation. SlutWalks, sparked after a Toronto officer said women should “avoid dressing like sluts,” challenge rape culture and victim blaming. Activist Amber Rose argues reclaiming slut helps dismantle it. And frankly, it's fun to say — a plosive, punchy word. Montell notes slurs fade only when the beliefs behind them fade.Ways to address this issue:• Get cishet men to call themselves sluts — not mansluts — and to do it vulnerably, without demeaning partners.• Reintroduce slutte as a gender-neutral term, like heaux for ho/whore.• Teach kids media literacy about porn and bodily autonomy. When teens use gendered insults, ask what they really mean; encourage ungendered ones like “butthole” or naming specific behaviors.
Retired FBI agent and criminal profiler Candice DeLong examines the chilling case of Elliot Rodger, the self-described “supreme gentleman” whose violent resentment toward women exploded into a deadly rampage in Isla Vista, California, in 2014. While frequenting self-validating incel forums online, offline, Rodger struggled with social rejection, mental-health crises, and a growing obsession with punishing the people he believed had wronged him. By the time the violence erupted, six people were dead and fourteen more injured. Candice explores how alienation, narcissism, and extremist online communities converged to create a perfect storm; and how Rodger's attack marked a turning point in understanding grievance-based violence, misogynistic extremism, and the psychology behind modern lone-actor killers.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

“Taking the black pill” names a posture of fatalism that migrated from fringe men's forums into the wider internet. The metaphor riffs on the pills in The Matrix, but where the “red pill” claims to reveal hard truths, the black pill says those truths are terminal and change is pointless. In its most specific and consequential register, it is tied to the incel subculture that coalesced online in the early 2010s. Encyclopædia Britannica traces the phrase's popularization to the incel blog Omega Virgin Revolt and records a further radicalization after May 23, 2014, when some forum users glorified Elliot Rodger's Isla Vista murders with talk of “going ER,” a dark shorthand for destruction and loss of hope.

Incel Extremism EXPOSED, From Elliot Roger to Bryan Kohberger In this special conclusion to our five-part deep dive, we bring together everything we've uncovered about the incel phenomenon—from its toxic digital roots to the real-world trail of blood it's left behind. This episode unpacks how loneliness, rejection, entitlement, and misogyny have merged into one of the most disturbing and violent ideologies of the internet age. We trace the timeline from Elliot Rodger's 2014 Isla Vista massacre—where he filmed his manifesto and became a cult figure in incel circles—through to copycat killers like Alek Minassian, Scott Beierle, and more. These aren't random killers. They're men who felt entitled to women's attention, rejected by society, and validated by online echo chambers that turned their self-pity into shared rage. And then there's the case of Bryan Kohberger—accused in the 2022 Idaho student murders. Though not confirmed to be an incel, his background paints a chilling portrait of social isolation, rejection, misogynistic behavior, and creepy patterns eerily aligned with known incel killers. We break down the evidence, the speculation, and why it matters—because even without a manifesto, the patterns are there. This isn't just a true crime breakdown. It's a look at how misogynistic extremism festers in online forums, how it radicalizes vulnerable young men, and why law enforcement is now calling it a domestic terror threat. If we want to stop the next Kohberger, the next Rodger—we need to understand how they're made. This is the final chapter. Watch it all come together. #Incel #BryanKohberger #ElliotRodger #AlekMinassian #TrueCrimeAnalysis #MisogynisticExtremism #BlackpillCulture #MassViolence #ToxicMasculinity #IncelTerrorism Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Was Bryan Kohberger Driven by Incel Rage? | Unmasking a Possible Motive in the Idaho Murders Description: Was the Idaho killer fueled by incel ideology? In Part 4 of our deep-dive into the incel phenomenon, we examine the disturbing case of Bryan Kohberger—the criminology Ph.D. student accused of murdering four University of Idaho students—and how his life story eerily mirrors those of known incel killers. We analyze Kohberger's social isolation, history of rejection, alleged creepy behavior toward women, and even his bizarre post-Tinder date comment about “birthing hips.” We break down how he messaged one of the victims repeatedly before the murders, stalked the house multiple times, and may have operated under an online alias referencing Elliot Rodger. And what does it mean that the killings appeared targeted, methodical, and focused on attractive college women? Though Kohberger hasn't been formally linked to any incel group, the patterns are disturbingly familiar: loneliness, resentment, misogyny, and escalation. We also explore what experts like former FBI agents and forensic psychologists have said about the incel theory—and why even without a manifesto, this case raises serious red flags about male entitlement, gendered violence, and the deadly blend of personal failure with online extremism. If you think this was just another case of evil without reason, think again. Because the warning signs were there—and they sound just like the ones we've seen before. #BryanKohberger #IdahoMurders #IncelMotive #TrueCrimePsychology #KohbergerAnalysis #DarkWebCulture #EntitledViolence #IncelTheory #MisogynisticExtremism #BlackpillBehavior

From Rodger to Mass Murder: Inside the Violent Rise of Incel-Inspired Killers | Full Timeline Description: In Part 3 of our groundbreaking series, we take you beyond Elliot Rodger—and into the disturbing trend of incel-inspired mass murder. This isn't isolated. It's a pattern. From the Umpqua Community College shooting to the Toronto van attack, to the Tallahassee yoga studio massacre—we connect the dots between rage, misogyny, and mounting body counts. We walk you through the major cases: – Chris Harper-Mercer, who called Rodger a god. – Alek Minassian, who declared the “Incel Rebellion” had begun. – Scott Beierle, who left behind a manifesto about killing women. – Tres Genco, arrested with a hit list and plans to attack sorority girls. – Jake Davison, whose rampage in the UK showed this isn't just an American problem. We also cover near-misses, foiled plots, and the growing number of men radicalized by misogynistic forums and emboldened by martyr worship. These aren't just angry guys—they're extremists who believe women's rejection justifies bloodshed. You'll hear about what law enforcement is doing, why early warning signs are still being missed, and how toxic communities online continue to churn out would-be killers. This episode isn't for the faint of heart. But if you want to understand the deadly consequences of unchecked rage, this is the one to watch. #IncelTerrorism #MassShootingTimeline #AlekMinassian #ChrisHarperMercer #IncelThreat #DomesticTerror #MisogynyKills #TrueCrimeDoc #BehavioralThreats #OnlineRadicalization Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Elliot Rodger: The Supreme Gentleman Who Sparked a Killing Ideology | Day of Retribution Exposed Description: Before school shooters were idolized online and mass murderers had fan clubs, there was Elliot Rodger. In Part 2 of our deep-dive series, we dissect the 2014 Isla Vista massacre and the chilling manifesto that launched a movement. Rodger didn't just murder six people and injure 14 others—he filmed his rage, wrote a 137-page incel bible, and turned himself into a martyr for angry, entitled men online. He called it the “Day of Retribution.” Incels call him “Saint Elliot.” We break down how Rodger's hatred of women, social rejection, and deep narcissism made him the face of a new kind of domestic terrorism—one rooted not in religion or politics, but in misogyny and entitlement. We explore the language of his video, the themes of his manifesto, and how his actions inspired a wave of copycat killers. We also examine the missed red flags, from YouTube rants to police visits, that might've prevented it all. Elliot Rodger wanted the world to understand his pain. Unfortunately, thousands of men online still do—and some are ready to follow in his bloody footsteps. This is the true story of how one man's warped worldview became a global threat. #ElliotRodger #DayOfRetribution #IncelKillers #MisogynistTerrorism #TrueCrimeBreakdown #MassShooterProfile #IncelMartyr #BlackpillCulture #RedFlagMissed #SupremeGentleman Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?

Where Do 'Incels' Come From? Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott Breaks It Down Description: We've all heard the word “incel” thrown around—usually after another headline about a mass shooting or hate-fueled violence. But where does that mindset actually come from? In this episode, I sit down with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott to go deep into the psychology behind incel ideology—what drives it, where it starts, and why it keeps spreading. Shavaun walks us through the emotional landscape of many of these young men: loneliness, rejection, isolation, resentment. But we also talk about how this internal pain gets externalized—how it turns into entitlement, anger toward women, and, in extreme cases, violent revenge. We explore the roots of this movement—from early online forums and Elliot Rodger's manifesto, to the current ecosystem of toxic online communities that validate hatred in real time. If you've ever wondered how someone gets pulled into this world, or why it keeps happening over and over again, this conversation explains it in human terms. This isn't about making excuses—it's about understanding the red flags before they become another breaking news alert. And it starts with asking the right questions. #Incel #ShavaunScott #TrueCrimePsychology #BryanKohberger #ElliotRodger #IncelIdeology #MassShooterMindset #ToxicMasculinity #PsychologicalProfile #HiddenKillersPodcast Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Where Do 'Incels' Come From? Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott Breaks It Down Description: We've all heard the word “incel” thrown around—usually after another headline about a mass shooting or hate-fueled violence. But where does that mindset actually come from? In this episode, I sit down with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott to go deep into the psychology behind incel ideology—what drives it, where it starts, and why it keeps spreading.

17-year-old Sarah Grace Patrick posted a selfie video in tears with mascara running down her face and also delivered an emotional eulogy at the funeral for her mother and stepfather who were shot and killed in their bedroom. But cops say those tears were all phony... they say the teen committed the murders herself. And he's considered one of the greatest wrestlers in W-W-E history... now Seth Rollins and his wife, who's also a wrestler, are the latest celebrities targeted in a burglary. It happened when the bad guys knew they would be away, wrestling in the ring. Plus, last week, Bryan Kohberger pled guilty to murdering four University Of Idaho students without revealing a motive, but there's a theory he was inspired by another rampage killer, Elliot Rodger, who killed six college students in 2014. Rodger was an incel, which means he hated women after being unlucky in love, and his story may have touched a nerve with Kohberger. And they were an unlikely duo - former President Obama and President Trump chit chatting at Jimmy Carter's funeral. The whole world was wondering what these political opponents could have possibly been talking about... now a new book claims to have the answer. Bryan Kohberger : Was Incel Ideology Behind the Idaho Murders? In this episode, we take an in-depth look at Bryan Kohberger, the criminology graduate student accused of committing the shocking Idaho murders. Drawing from documented evidence, including his troubling allegations of interactions with women on Instagram, Tinder, and official university records, we explore how Kohberger's documented misogynistic behavior and social isolation align with the disturbing profiles seen in past incel-motivated attacks. Could Bryan Kohberger's background, filled with allegations of sexism and troubling interactions, shed light on his alleged motivations? We also unpack the chilling history and beliefs of the incel subculture—an online community that has been linked to notorious attacks, including those by Elliot Rodger and Alek Minassian. Through a factual analysis, we define critical terms like "Chads," "Stacys," and the dangerous philosophy of the "blackpill," helping listeners understand how online resentment can sometimes turn into real-world violence. Finally, the episode offers a clear, evidence-based comparison between Bryan Kohberger and known incel attackers, highlighting both similarities and significant differences. Experts weigh in on why it's crucial to approach labeling Kohberger's alleged crimes with caution and nuance. Join us as we examine the complex and troubling intersection of misogyny, social isolation, and violence in the Bryan Kohberger case—separating fact from speculation and aiming for clarity in this unsettling investigation. Did you know the term "incel" no longer generally refers to someone who is just lonely and horny? Now, it's more synonymous with a new kind of domestic terrorist. A rise in mass shootings carried out by self-identified "incels," starting with Elliot Rodger in 2014, has more and more people looking into the "manosphere" that incels digitally inhabit. It's a sad and terrifying place... and also - holy shit, is it unintentionally also hilarious.
