As the son of a Southern Baptist pastor, Stephen was running as hard as he could AWAY from God. By 11th grade, heavy drugs, by 12th grade a felony conviction, and after graduating high school, two drug overdoses and another arrest. Then he joined the coast guard where he had a life-changing encounter with the Lord, after which he was led into a journey that would forever alter the way he viewed spiritual warfare and spiritual gifts. He never wanted to be a pastor, but God had a different plan. Special Guest: Stephen Holley.

Carry the Load Co-Founder, President, and CEO Stephen Holley joins the show to discuss his organization's work raising awareness for the true meaning of the Memorial Day holiday.
North Texas Navy Seal Veteran, Stephen Holley is also the President and CEO of the nonprofit Carry The Load, which teaches Americans about the sacrifices made by members of the military, veterans, first responders and their families. He grew up in Dallas and eventually went on to graduate from the United States Naval Academy in 2000. He went on to serve as a Navy Seal for five years and completed four deployments to Iraq and southeast Asia. After his service, Stephen along with fellow Navy Seal Clint Bruce started Carry the Load as a grassroots effort because they say they felt like the nation had forgotten the meaning of Memorial Day. Carry the Load co-founders Stephen Holley and Clint Bruce are both Navy SEAL Veterans. The idea for their initiative was born out of anger and frustration, feeling that Americans were drifting away from the original purpose of Memorial Day. On Memorial Day 2010 Clint decided to undergo physical pain as an emotional purge. He loaded his pack with one pound for every comrade he had lost. During that walk he encountered a WWII Veteran who asked him; “Who are you carrying son?” Stephen joins us to share more information about their organization. Stephen and Clint organized their first Carry the Load walk in 2011. The event raised $100,000. Their intent was to just organize a Memorial Day event but it has since grown to a year round series of activities across 48 states. Carry the Load has raised over $33 million for Veteran and First Responder charities. Interestingly, their grassroots growth has principally been driven by the 99% or our population who never served. Their goal this Memorial Day is to raise $2 million dollars. They have five national relays traveling 24 hours a day, seven days a week following different paths across the US. Those relays will cover a total of 20,000 miles during the month of May. There are also rallies schedule in many cities. If there is not an event near you, Stephen encourages you to form a team and conduct your own. There is no cost to register – YOU can make a donation or register to walk at their website. Veteran and First Responder organizations who would like to apply to be a beneficiary can do so in September of each year. Carry the Load has three principal focus areas; Raising awareness, funding continuum of care programs and inspiring patriotism in our nation's youth. TAKEAWAY: A critical element of each event is facilitating participants to share their “why” with each other. They walk because “you can't run and talk.”

"One of the folks said, 'There's a fire. Bring shovels.' We jumped in the truck and drove as fast as we could to where they were talking about. We pull up and shut off the truck. We get out, and we start smelling burned rubber." — Stephen Holley, SIXSITE Founder Team GoWild is on the road. We’ve been down in Texas meeting up with Stephen Holley and Team SIXSITE where we also had a meet and greet. From there we crashed in Austin for a night before meeting up with Jeremiah Doughty for a three day whitetail hunt. We have a ton of awesome content coming from this trip, and that starts right now. I sat down with Stephen Holley, the founder of SIXSITE gear, as well as Jason Dickens, a hunting guide who works for SIXSITE. We had fun with this one and I hope you do, too. Visit SIXSITE's Website Restless Native is Sponsored by Houston Safari Club Foundation Restless Native is brought to you by Houston Safari Club Foundation. Beyond the convention, you can experience some amazing entertainment, with performances from folks like Corey Morrow, Rickey Davis and Billboard chart-frequent flyer, Kevin Fowler. There are banquets and luncheons, auctions and more stuff than I possibly have time to tell you about right now. And as Joe said in his most recent interview, Houston is a great place to spend a weekend and grub. You know what the best part of all of this is? Your tickets and support of this expo help fulfill Houston Safari Club Foundation’s mission of preserving the sport of hunting through education, conservation and the promotion of our hunting heritage. As many of you know, GoWild has partnered with From Field to Plate and SIXSITE to promote hunter recruitment with a sweepstakes valued at over $4,500. The sweepstakes ran for 2 months, and collectively generated nearly 3,000 new hunters and anglers for 2018. "I know this is a drop in the bucket in what the industry needs, but we're proud to be working with people and brands who understand that if we all just work together, these small efforts can eventually create bucket loads of new hunters and anglers," said GoWild Co-Founder Brad Luttrell. "For being as young of a company as we are, we're proud to see our little ol' community be this activated and inspired to jump in and solve this R3 issue." Team GoWild sat down on August 1 and called one random winner for the sweepstakes. You can listen to the episode above to see who won and just how that announcement went. The winner will join GoWild Co-Founders Brad Luttrell and Donovan Sears on an all-expense-paid hunting trip to Texas, where wild game chef Jeremiah Doughty will teach his process of hunting, butchering and cooking whitetail. SIXSITE will outfit the winner in their USA-made, high-quality camo. "We want to give back to those who are giving," said Doughty. "I want to be a part of the winner's life, because this will be a person who is pledging to help make an impact." Note: There is no video. Sorry. **About SIXSITE** Founded in 2015, SIXSITE is a high-performance hunting and outdoor apparel and gear provider. Users of GoWild and listeners of Restless Native may recall SIXSITE's founder, Stephen Holley, joining GoWild Co-Founder Brad Luttrell for a podcast. The show is highly regarded as one of the best Restless Natives yet by many listeners. “It hit me that if this could happen to a 10 year old, it could be me. For a minute I was lost, not knowing what to do next. Since my experience going hunting, I’ve done things I would have never done before.” — Marcus Stiggers, SIXSITE When I look at our industry, I’m inspired most by brands that market through empowerment, not impossibility. SIXSITE is one of those brands. Stephen Holley, the founder, understands that he makes a high end product, but he also understands the market well. He’s marketing to a new generation of hunters. And he’s marketing to a generation that’s largely untapped. While SIXSITE does make high-quality gear, the organization understands the lay of the land. They’re doing their part to get more people outside. Overall, that creates a healthy industry, and a healthy industry is good for business. And also at the root of this is doing the right thing. We’re going to hear from one of those people that SIXSITE has activated. Marcus Stiggers has suffered incredible loss. And he’s going to tell us about that loss, and how it’s changed his life. And how all of this ultimately brought him into this wonderful world of hunting. This podcast is hard to summarize. Overall, I am proud to know and work with, Stephen Holley. I respect what they’re doing in the industry and that they’re playing the long game. George Mason and Carry the Load Co-Founder Stephen Holley continue their conversation about life after the Navy Seals, starting a non-profit and a company, depression and how Faith plays a role in all of it.
George Mason and Carry The Load Founder Stephen Holley discuss how faith played a major role in growing up, playing football for the Naval Academy and his service in combat.
Stephen Holley, a former Navy Seal and the founder of SIXSITE gear has taken an idea from his house and a side hustle to a company with a serious presence in the industry. Not only that, but Stephen’s gained all of his momentum while conquering the challenges of keeping his factories right here in the USA. As you’ll hear us discuss, he was told it shouldn’t be done. They told him he was crazy. And he'd go on to find out out why—this was hard. But through a series of iterations, failures, and improvements, he seems to have it. Stephen’s gone from a former Navy Seal ripping apart clothes in his spare time to sew them back together with his wife’s sewing machine to building a brand that’s got traction. And a big part of Stephen’s brand is that authentic, made in the USA story. This is a great conversation. We hope you enjoy it. We also get deep into the Yeti-NRA situation. Brace yourself. Topics covered: • September 11th and how it changed us all • Clinical depression • Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Chris Stapleton & Jason Isbell • Let's talk about this gun debate • Entrepreneurship is hard • Hardships • Furthering education • How to get a job in the industry • Outdoor content needs to evolve • Big announcement from Sixsite • What hunting means to Stephen • Turkey hunting • Carry the Load Check out the Restless Native Spotify playlist to hear songs we talk about and other favorites of mine: http://bit.ly/RestlessNativePodcast
Stephen is the founder and chief designer of new innovative outdoor apparel brand called SIXSITE. This apparel is built for the performance hunter. Stephen was adamant that all SIXSITE gear is assembled right here in the USA! Does a hunting brand get any better than Navy SEAL designed and USA made? We don't think so. The SIXSITE brand is made with the Frogman Mentality. "Starting a company, climbing a mountain, raising a family, drawing back for the shot—it all starts and ends with the right mind-set. We’ll help you find yours." Background Stephen L. Holley, Jr., graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2000. He graduated Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL Class 234 and served as a SEAL officer at SEAL Team 5 for five years and completed four deployments to Iraq and Southeast Asia. Following his military service, Stephen continues to be a leader in the Dallas area by co-founding Carry The Load with fellow Navy SEAL, Clint Bruce. Stephen has served the Dallas community as a member of the Touchdown Club, the Elizabeth Toon Charities, as a Board Member for the Goodwill Industries of Dallas and currently serves as the Chairman of Pete Sessions Service Academy Advisory Board for the 32nd Congressional District. He has been recognized by the Dallas Business Journal through the 40 under 40 Award and has received the Dallas Foundation’s Good Works Under 40 Award. Most recently, Stephen is found stitching together his tactical skills and love for hunting, designing outdoors apparel and gear for his new venture, SIXSITE. This is Stephen Holly's unfinished story. Please Enjoy. Thank You to Our Sponsors This episode is brought to you by StrikeForce Energy. Welcome to the very first company profile episode! This will be the first of many, and I couldn't be more excited to have my first one be with the founder of SIXSITE Gear, Stephen Holley.Stephen Holley from SIXSITE Gear joins me to talk about the company he founded and what makes his products or brand different than his competitors. I've known of SIXSITE for a while now and like most, had questions about their offerings and why I might choose to purchase from them versus through someone else. By the end of this episode, I had all my questions answered and more. Stephen is a great guy with a passion to make great products, but it doesn't stop there. He stands behind his offerings with an incredible warranty. We cover the "why" behind SIXSITE, products offered, how Stephen chose to go down the route of being consumer direct, and the heavy meaning behind marketing his brand as "Navy SEAL designed."
