Despite it being an instant classic, in losing 47-42 to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football, the Cleveland Browns have now lost their cushion. At 9-4, the Browns are in a tight race for a playoff spot and their margin for error is slim. That makes Sunday night's game against the New York Giants yet another must-win game. On this week's Cover 2 podcast, Nate Ulrich and Dan Kadar talk about why that is the case for the Browns, and what they need to do to beat the Giants. They also put a final bow on Monday's classic. In 11 years on the beat, Nate says if that game is the best he's covered yet. They also go over the Browns' lengthy injury report with updates on Denzel Ward, Wyatt Teller and more. They also talk about what the Browns might do at safety, and why the recently acquired Tedric Thompson could factor into the mix soon. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In the second hour of (Almost) Entirely Sports, Joshua Brisco, Rudy Salazar and Beards McFly are joined by Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com to talk about how things are looking early on in Chiefs training camp, the benefit of this being Spagnuolo's second year with the players in the system during a pandemic and Tedric Thompson's chances of impacting the team. Plus NBA players are crazy young. See omnystudio.com/policies/listener for privacy information.

The Seahawks made a couple moves in the last week of free agency and freeing up some salary cap space with the release of Ed Dickson and the announcement that Tedric Thompson would be released soon. With those two moves announced on the same day, Seahawks fans were anticipating bigger news. Instead, we learn that Jadeveon Clowney's public asking price has now dropped below the $20 million mark. At the very least, hopefully it means there is some resolution on the issue soon. With some down time ahead of the NFL Draft later this month, we take a look back at the 2019 free agency period and the situation that led the Seahawks to trade Frank Clark and if that's a move that John Schneider would like to have back or if he would need to do all over again. What ultimately came of the draft picks that were exchanged with the Kansas City Chiefs? Though Ziggy Ansah was the biggest miss of the previous offseason, the risk may still have been worth the reward although we take a look at some of the other moves that ultimately could have been accomplished with the cap space that was dedicated for Ansah. The Athletic kicked off the offseason lists by running through the top players in NFL history to wear each jersey number and several Seahawks veterans made the list and there were many other honorable mentions. The conversation led to a discovery by Adam on how to use former Seahawks nose tackle Joe Nash in Tecmo Bowl to blow up every play up the middle or even plays where the quarterback was under center. In the second half of the show we talk about our latest giveaway. Members of the Flock can go to tinypiecesofseahawksstuff.com and type 'Go Hawks' in the comments for a random drawing of a Russell Wilson card with a tiny piece of Seahawks jersey. We also talk about some NFL news as well as a running back who is Adam's current draft crush. Do better calls go out to Jeep thieves as well as NFL owners. Finally, Adam finds a fellow advocate for alternative lawn care in sports media as the reporter earns a Better at Life nod alongside a long-time listener. Support the show Get in the Flock! Former Mariners broadcaster and baseball player Ron Fairly has passed away at the age of 81. We'll pay tribute to him later in the show. The Sounders upset LAFC, moving on to the MLS Cup for the third time in just 4 years. Is Brian Schmetzer the most accomplished professional coach in Seattle sports history? He might get dismissed by some simply because soccer isn't as big here as football or even baseball, but there's no denying this franchise's success. Tedric Thompson has been placed on the IR for a shoulder injury no one knew he had, although the Seahawks say they knew. The timing is interesting... Hawks defensive line coach Clint Hurtt discusses the lessons learned from the second half in Atlanta. New England can't win forever. Brady doesn't look like himself, and their schedule is about to get more difficult. Take Baltimore +3.5... maybe even straight up on Fact or Fiction. On Dick and Dave in the Locker Room, we check in with Bush Hamdan and KJ Wright.

Historically, offensive lineman don't get a lot of love when it comes to the positive side of the 3 IN, 3 OUT ledger. This week, not only does Justin Britt get an IN, he inspires us all to create a unique musical playlist. With the 30-16 loss, it means for just the second time this season, 3 IN, 3 OUT starts with a loss and if you want to focus on one play in particular it was Tedric Thompson getting beat down the field for a long pass that set up an early score for the Ravens. In the from the flock segment, one suggestion about covering the clink leads to a discussion over what color tarp the team should use and who should be assigned to make sure the rain water doesn't collect in the center. Recapping Seattle's big win over Cleveland. Russ continues his MVP pace, the defense has a L.O.B.-like performance in spite of a lackluster pass-rush, the offensive line holds its own against Myles Garrett and more.
The Seahawks face some adversity on the road, giving up three straight touchdowns to start the game and are able to come back from a 20-6 deficit to win 32-28. Christopher Kidd of the Seahawks Man 2 Man podcast joined me to talk about the victory and the resume that Russell Wilson continues to put up for his MVP campaign. It even has one of Wilson's previous detractors Pete Prisco jumping on the hype train after the win, Pete Carroll talked about how turnovers come in bunches sometimes and it was a forced fumble by Ziggy Ansah, and interceptions my Tre Flowers, KJ Wright and Tedric Thompson. Thompson now has an interception in back-to-back games. Baker Mayfield was complaining about some missed calls by the referees after the game, but while the Browns were able to drive the field against the Seahawks defense, it was those turnovers in critical moments that helped propel Seattle to victory. Jedeveon Clowney had his first real experience with the 12's yesterday. Yeah, he was here for the Bengals win, but this was the first true game with a rocking CenturyLink Field. Softy talked with him about his experience after the game. Bob Rondeau was at the Seahawks game as well. He talks about the great night for one former Dawg in Will Dissly, and a not-so-great night for another former Dawg, Marcus Peters. We had to fit in at least one today: It's Dick and Dave in the Locker Room with Nick Harris and Tedric Thompson. Finally, we usually get to it on Thursdays, but with the game, we've moved it to Friday: The weekly conversation with Husky head coach Chris Petersen.

It was a rollercoaster of emotions for Seahawks fans in this game watching the Rams get out to the early lead following a Jaron Brown fumble on the first possession. Later in the quarter, Russell Wilson connects with Tyler Lockett on an incredible play to put the Seahawks in the lead despite to early scoring drives by Los Angeles. Then it was back to the lows after Seattle chooses to play conservative and settle for a long field goal on 4th and 1. A miss by Jason Myers is followed by two touchdown scoring drives by the Rams and the two teams spend time trading scores in the second half. After Chris Carson bobbles a fourth down catch in the end zone for the go ahead score, it looks like Seattle had the game in the bag after an incredible interception by Tedric Thompson. Unable to get a first down, they give the ball back to the Rams who drive down and get in position for a game winning 44-yard field goal. Adam Emmert joins Brandan Schulze to talk about the highlights from Seattle Seahawks Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll joins the show live from team headquarters in Renton. Carroll reacts to Jadeveon Clowney's debut, Russell Wilson's performance and whether we'll see competition for Tedric Thompson's starting job.
The Seattle Seahawks keep pace with the rest of the NFC West this week by getting the 21-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals at home to kick off the 2019 season. Ross Bell of the First and Ten podcast joins the show to talk about some of the biggest takeaways from the Week 1 victory. D.K. Metcalf's performance stood out among the Seahawks along with a two touchdown performance by running back Chris Carson. On defense, Jadeveon Clowney had an impact in limited action, but it was Al Woods and Quinton Jefferson who had some of the biggest plays of the game. Where the Seahawks shows their struggles were on the offensive line, perhaps taking on a better than anticipated Bengals defensive line. Tedric Thompson also had a play at the end of the first half that he would like to have back. Seahawks safety Tedric Thompson says when he came into the NFL three years ago, it was the speed that was the biggest adjustment from college but as soon as he understood the playbook, he could adjust to the speed. Tedric says the biggest advice he would give rookies is making sure you take care of your body because the NFL season is a long one.
Tedric Thompson and Justin Britt from the Seahawks and John Clayton from ESPN 710 Seattle joined the show.
What if we found a video showing Jarran Reed doing everything that's claimed in the police report? What if we knew that all of the allegations against him were 100 percent true? Would he still be a member of this Seahawk team? Would they find an excuse to keep a guy with 10 1/2 sacks, or would they stand by their previous statements about domestic violence and let him go? On a lighter note, it's the first edition of Dick and Dave in the Locker Room this year as Softy catches up with Tedric Thompson and Dick talks with tight end Will Dissly. Softy finds the idea of the 10-game NFL season interesting. It would add a level of strategy. Facing one of the top offenses in the NFL this week, the Seahawks have a number of players on the injury report. On defense is where the names jump out the most. Particularly seeing both Bradley McDougald and Tedric Thompson along with Shaquill Griffin on the injury report. Griffin was a full participant in practice, but Thompson has already been ruled out this week and McDougald is questionable. How will injuries impact Sunday night's game? The Chiefs are incredible on offense, but what about the defense? What's the magic number the Seahawks will have to put up on the board to be able to outscore the trio of Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce? It's a difficult number to come up with when they've score upwards of 40-50 points in two of the three losses. A few of the Seahawks players are looking to hit some big milestones in this game. Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, Chris Carson and Frank Clark all have some important milestones that could be within range in this game. The guys run down the short list of Pro Bowl players with Bobby Wagner and Michael Dickson earning a spot. But there are seven more Seahawks players on the list who are listed as alternates. Yet, there are still two spots that stand out as snubs. In the Do Better segment, Adam takes a run at the elf on the shelf and Brandan has words for throwback jersey distributor Mitchell and Ness. Better at life honors go to a former Seahawks player for calling out the Rams going into the playoffs and to a former Seahawks running back who showed up at his hometown city council meeting. The Seahawks went toe-to-toe with the Rams in Week 5 but came up just short. Was that a sign of real progress or another wasted opportunity? Brian Nemhauser, Jeff Simmons, Evan Hill, and Nathan Ernst break down the tight loss to Los Angeles, the offensive line, the running game, the overall play of the defense, and prepare Seahawks fans for the upcoming game with the Oakland Raiders in London.
With the Seahawks starters seeing the most action of the preseason, Seattle led 13-6 by the time Russell Wilson left the game in the third quarter. Two missed kicks by the Vikings rookie kicker helped to keep Seattle in the lead until late in the 4th quarter. But Minnesota was able to score 15 points in the 4th quarter to get the 21-20 lead and a hail mary came up 2-yards short of the goal line as time expired for the Seahawks. Ross Bell fills in for the reaction show this week with Adam on the road for work. Brandan and Ross take a look at some of the biggest plays of the game, including a look at Michael Dickson's first punt after taking over as punter full-time with the departure of Jon Ryan. On the Seahawks second drive of the game, we saw the ball appear to end up in the end zone without Russell throwing the ball. Defensively, the Seahawks consistently shut down the run and took away the deep part of the field to make Cousins routinely check down. Offensively, David Moore continued to look like he will contribute this season hauling in a touchdown from Alex McGough. Chris Carson and Mike Davis shared the load at running back with the starters. On the line, Fant came in for Ifedi at right tackle in the second quarter, and both appeared to be serviceable at the spot. On defense, Tedric Thompson and Quinton Jefferson looked to be gaining confidence along with Shaquill Griffin who matched up well with Stefon Diggs. Closing out the show, Better at Life this week is the tight end group who have come up with an interesting fine structure that includes a reference to the movie Napoleon Dynamite.
