What if the thing your doctor is calling a disorder is actually a brain that's working fine — just in the wrong environment? Dr. Steve Rondeau has analyzed more than 50,000 brain scans, and his work is starting to change how a lot of clinicians, including me, think about psychiatric diagnosis. If you've spent years collecting diagnoses, swapping medications, and wondering whether the next label will finally be the right one — this conversation is for you.If you've spent years collecting diagnoses, swapping medications, and wondering whether the next label will finally be the right one — this conversation is for you.My guest is Dr. Steve Rondeau, founder of Axon EEG Solutions and author of the forthcoming book Think Like a Brain. He's spent the last fifteen years asking a different question than most psychiatry asks. Not what's wrong with this person, but what pattern is showing up here, and what environment would actually fit it.We talk about why the diagnosis-chasing loop keeps so many people stuck, the heterogeneity hiding inside labels like depression and ADHD, what he calls the Husky Phenomenon (his analogy for why your brain probably isn't broken, just mismatched to its environment), and the cases that taught him to look at the data before he looked at the diagnosis. This isn't a conversation about replacing your doctor with a brain scan. It's about what becomes possible when objective data and a person's lived experience finally start talking to each other — and what that means for anyone who's been told their symptoms are in their head, or that they just haven't found the right medication yet.About Dr. RondeauDr. Steve Rondeau is the founder of Axon EEG Solutions and the author of Think Like a Brain. An award-winning naturopathic physician, he began his career in developmental pediatrics looking for objective biomarkers in autism — the experience that shaped his core conviction that mental health deserves the same kind of measurable data the rest of medicine takes for granted. Over fifteen years and more than 50,000 qEEG brain scans later, he's best known for what he calls the Husky Phenomenon: the idea that many of the brain patterns we label as disorders aren't broken at all, just mismatched to the environments they're being asked to function in.Connect with Dr. RondeauWebsite: axoneegsolutions.comBook: Think Like a Brain thinklikeabrain.comLinkedIn: Dr. Steven RondeauEmail: info@axoneegsolutions.com

What if your struggle with weight loss isn't about willpower at all, but about brain patterns you were born with? In this groundbreaking conversation, Dr. Matthew Weiner and registered dietitian Zoe sit down with neuroscientist Dr. Steve Rondeau, who has conducted over 50,000 EEG brain scans and just released his book Think Like a Brain. Dr. Rondeau reveals that emotional eating, stress eating, and food cravings aren't character flaws—they're measurable brain patterns that show up differently in every person. His research has identified that what we call "stress eating" can manifest in 4,096 different combinations of brain patterns, explaining why the same diet works for one person but fails for another. One of the most exciting revelations is the potential to use brain scans to predict who will respond to GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound before they even take their first dose. Dr. Rondeau discusses the "overwhelmed pattern"—a specific brain biomarker where brain activity slows down under stress, strongly correlated with using food as an escape mechanism. He draws fascinating parallels between GLP-1 medications and psychedelic therapy, explaining how both create a window of opportunity where the usual noise quiets down enough for real behavioral change to happen. The key is using that window effectively with proper integration work. This episode challenges the entire foundation of mental health diagnosis, revealing why the DSM is fundamentally flawed and how brain scan technology can finally match treatments to individual biology rather than broad symptom categories. Dr. Rondeau uses the powerful analogy of a husky in the desert versus the mountains—your brain patterns may be perfectly adapted for certain situations but set you up for failure in others. The conversation explores emerging wearable EEG technology, the inheritance of brain patterns, and the future of truly personalized medicine. Essential listening for anyone who has ever wondered why willpower never seems to be enough.Connect with Dr. Steve Rondeau:Book: Think Like a Brain (thinklikeabrain.com)Available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and all major platformsAudiobook coming soonDownload the Pound of Cure App: gololi.ai - AI-powered personalized weight loss planning
Mental health is often treated like a guessing game, but what if we could actually see what's happening in the brain? In this episode, Dr. Steve Rondeau, founder of Axon EEG Solutions and author of Think Like a Brain, breaks down how brain-based data is changing the way we understand mental health, postpartum struggles, and behavior in both women and children. We dive into why traditional diagnoses often miss the root cause, how brain patterns shape your personality and responses, and why your environment plays a bigger role than you think. This conversation also explores a newly released study on hormonal birth control and antidepressant response, the concept of the “overwhelmed brain,” and how small shifts in your daily life can dramatically change your mental resilience. If you've ever felt like something is off but can't explain why, or wondered why one season of life feels manageable while another feels overwhelming, this episode will completely reframe how you think about your brain, your behavior, and your capacity.00:00 Intro 01:52 Why mental health is still a guessing game 03:40 The misdiagnosis that exposes a broken system 06:10 Can brain scans predict personality 09:30 Why people experience life differently 13:15 Birth control and antidepressant study 16:47 Why one-size-fits-all treatment fails 18:40 Why postpartum experiences vary 22:40 Your brain isn't broken your environment is 24:21 When symptoms don't match the diagnosis 26:40 The case that changed everything 29:10 Why root causes get missed 32:10 Are brain patterns genetic or learned 34:40 The 3 areas that shape mental health 37:40 Why you can't just push through 39:10 The overwhelmed brain pattern 42:10 The habit that regulates your nervous system 43:46 Why coping mechanisms make sense 46:40 Why normal brains don't exist 49:10 Parenting and relationships through this lens 53:10 What's normal behavior for kids 55:10 The parenting mistake most people make 58:10 Are screens rewiring our brains 61:10 How to find brain scan providers 73:31 Outro Resources From This Episode:Dr. Rondeau's Website - https://axoneegsolutions.com/Dr. Rondeau's Book: Think Like Brain Treating Manual - https://www.amazon.com/Think-Like-Brain-Treating-Manual-ebook/dp/B0GFXQK1DVFollow Dr. Steve Rondeau on Socials:Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/people/Dr-Steve-Rondeau/100068808602146/LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-steven-rondeau-148aa421/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/dr_rondeau_qeeg/Dr. Morgan's Pregnancy Call Lessons - https://milkmedicine.com/lessonsonly/Healthy As A Mother Podcast | YouTubeHealthy As A Mother Podcast | InstagramHealthy As A Mother Podcast | TikTokHealthy As A Mother Podcast | Merch StoreFind more from Dr. Leah:Dr. Leah Gordon | InstagramDr. Leah Gordon | WebsiteWomanhood Wellness | WebsiteFind more from Dr. Morgan:Dr. Morgan MacDermott | InstagramDr. Morgan MacDermott | WebsiteUse code HAAM and save 10% at FondUse code HEALTHYMOTHER and save 15% at RedmondFor 20% off your first order at Needed, use code HEALTHYMOTHERSave $260 at Lumebox, use code HEALTHYASAMOTHER

As the Founder of Axon EEG Solutions, he has analyzed over 50,000 brain scans to help clinicians and patients see the objective reality behind symptoms like anxiety, depression, and ADHD. He believes that we need to stop guessing and start looking under the hood. His work focuses on identifying root causes - whether that is inflammation, gut health, or simply a genetic mismatch with one's environment - to help people engineer a life that supports their biology rather than fighting against it. Dr. Steve Rondeau's gift: Dr. Steve's upcoming book, Think Like a Brain, acts as an owner's manual for the mind. It helps patients understand that they aren't broken, they just haven't been given the right map. The Naval Postgraduate School's recent partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit formalizes NPS' focus on fostering innovation in the school's student body. SynopsisOn today's date in 1738, a once-successful French composer died destitute in an asylum of Charenton. It was a lamentable end for the 56-year-old Jean-Joseph Mouret, who had once served the French king at the Palais Royal and whose operas had once graced the stage of the Paris Opéra.How ironic, then, that Mouret would achieve belated fame in 20th-century America when the “Rondeau” from his Symphonies and Fanfares for the King's Supper was chosen as the theme for the Masterpiece Theatre TV series on PBS. Christopher Sarson, the original executive producer of Masterpiece Theatre, recalls how this came about.“In 1962, my future wife and I went to one of the Club Med villages in Italy. We were in these little straw huts and every morning we were summoned to breakfast by that theme. It was just magic. ... I wanted to use it for Masterpiece Theatre but there was no way I could bear to put a French piece of music on something that was supposed to be English. I went through all kinds of English composers and nothing worked. So, Mouret became the theme.”Music Played in Today's ProgramJean-Joseph Mouret (1682-1738) Rondeau; Wynton Marsalis, trumpet; English Chamber Orchestra; Anthony Newman, cond. Sony 66244
