The ability to slow down, take a deep breath and be present in the moment in something I think most of us take for granted. For Brandon Wicks, developing and growing this ability through yoga has helped him overcome his mental health issues. Now, he and Jen Rondeau are working with the Royal University Hospital's Adult Mental Health Short Stay Unit to empower patients on their road to recovery. If you're looking for Brandon Wicks, there's a good chance he's here at Rise Strength Lab. Brandon is not only a personal trainer at the gym but he owns Rise Strength Lab. Every time I see Brandon at the gym, he has a smile on his face and is talking with staff or members. He's caring man with a big heart who has battled through some pretty challenging mental health issues in recent years. You'll hear Brandon share his personal story in this episode, but there was a point during his story where he needed professional help. In January of 2023, Brandon spent two weeks at the Adult Mental Health Short Stay Unit at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. There was no gym equipment for him to access during his two week stay, but there was a yoga mat! So Brandon would spend an hour every evening on a mat stretching and breathing and trying to ground himself in the present moment. It helped him immensely. When Brandon left the hospital, he shared his story with Jen Rondeau. Jen is a full time paramedic and also the owner of Ivy Yoga House who has had her own mental health challenges. Brandon wanted to give the gift of yoga back to the mental health short stay unit, and with Jen's help, was able to do so earlier this year. The story behind this innovative yoga program is, I think, inspiring and you'll hear it shared with great emotion by Brandon and Jen. The program also inspired Jennifer Molloy. She the CEO of the Royal University Hospital Foundation which is now backing the yoga program for an additional two years. So far, the yoga program at the mental health short stay unit has been running one class a week, but thanks to the RUH Foundation's support, there will be two classes a week starting in 2025. I want to thank Brandon and Jen for sharing so much in this episode and I know their efforts are truly making a difference in our community. You can listen to YXE Underground wherever you find your favourite podcasts including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Goodpods or on the website: yxeunderground.comPlease feel free to leave a 5-star review if you like what you hear. You can follow YXE Underground on social media. Welcome back to The Big Year Podcast. Sorry to have been gone so long, but birding seemed to drag me away from editing more often than not in April. Not to mention that I was recovering from a severe hand injury, when I fell after seeing both Ross's and Snow Geese in Burlington in March. I hyper extended all the fingers on my right hand, using it to brace myself and protect my camera as tripped over a rock and fell to the ground. It is May 2, 2024 and I was supposed to publish this episode yesterday, but once again, birds got in the way. In this case a Summer Tanager arrived in my old birding patch in Toronto, Colonel Samuel Smith Park, on the shores of Lake Ontario. There seems to be an eruption of Summer Tanagers here in Ontario this spring. This year at least half a dozen have shown up in various locations. I had just seen one in Chatham, not far from Rondeau provincial park, a few days ago, but one in Col. Sam was worth the drive yesterday morning. Second only to my ABA list, my Colonel Sam list is the most important to me. I began birding on January 1, 2012 and I have been birding there ever since. The summer tanager was number 242 for the park. With migration gearing up I'm sure to out birding nearly every day, including a drive to the east coast, along the Trans-Canada Highway. I'll be working on some new content and working on the next episode along the way. This trip, unlike my 2022 Big Year, will be on a budget. I've got a new air mattress for the back of my Ford EcoSport and will be camping most nights, probably in a WallMart parking lot, or the occasional roadside ditch. I might even splurge and get a spot in a province or national park some nights. I was inspired to do this trip by Tiffany Kirsten, as that's how she saved money when shebroke the all time lower 48 Big Year Record. Well, enough of me rambling, so let's get on to this episode. My guest, all the way from the west coast, is Krissi Martin . Krissi did a double big year in 2022. While I was criss-crossing the country, Krissi was birding locally in two counties, the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver. So, sit back, relax, unless you're driving, and enjoy.

SynopsisOn today's date in 1738, a once-successful French composer died destitute in an asylum of Charenton. It was a lamentable end for the 56-year-old Jean-Joseph Mouret, who had once served the French king at the Palais Royal and whose operas had once graced the stage of the Paris Opéra.How ironic, then, that Mouret would achieve belated fame in 20th-century America when the “Rondeau” from his Symphonies and Fanfares for the King's Supper was chosen as the theme for the Masterpiece Theatre TV series on PBS. Christopher Sarson, the original executive producer of Masterpiece Theatre, recalls how this came about.“In 1962, my future wife and I went to one of the Club Med villages in Italy. We were in these little straw huts and every morning we were summoned to breakfast by that theme. It was just magic. ... I wanted to use it for Masterpiece Theatre but there was no way I could bear to put a French piece of music on something that was supposed to be English. I went through all kinds of English composers and nothing worked. So, Mouret became the theme.”Music Played in Today's ProgramJean-Joseph Mouret (1682-1738) Rondeau; Wynton Marsalis, trumpet; English Chamber Orchestra; Anthony Newman, cond. Sony 66244
Founded in the 1990's Step Aerobics era, Planet Fitness (PLNT) has seen its share of reboots. They went public in 2015 and today the $1B company is one of the largest and fastest-growing fitness brands, with 18 million members who “work out” in over 2,400 locations around the world. Under their CEO, Chris Rondeau's, leadership, Planet Fitness was rebooted and grown into a market leader that many of you have experienced firsthand. What we like most about them is 90% of the locations are owned and operated by entrepreneurs—independent businessmen and women like many of you. Recently, Chris was fired and the board installed former Gov. Craig Benson, a longtime company board member, as interim CEO. Prior to being let go, Chris joined Dean DeBiase for an episode of The Reboot Chronicles to discuss his journey, from the front desk to the CEO's office, and what's next in the health and fitness club space—a market which is projected to soon reach $136B. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rebootchronicles/message

He's here today to help us evaluate who the best client candidate for local PPC is. This starts with the customer journey and appreciating where they are at in their decision-making process when they're searching for a link. If it's a plumbing emergency, they're probably going to click on the top link with the closest plumber, right? But what about other industries? How easy is it to offer local PPC ads in different niches? What are the client expectations and is it worth creating PPC client offers to get a foot in the door? When it comes to local businesses, there's not much wiggle room budget-wise to learn on the job. Picking a lane and niching down so that you can speak to your client's pain points is recommended. So too is speaking in ranges, not specifics. If a client hears that a lead might cost $50 for a job that is easy for you to set up, they'll likely hold you to that.Today's episode is a lesson in managing client expectations and learning which cards as a marketer to keep close to your chest. Twenty new clients that take you up on a $500 PPC campaign might sound like a good idea to get new business - but is it really? There's a way easier option. Studio Sponsor: Cardio Miracle - "The finest heart and health supplement in the world!": https://www.briannicholsshow.com/heart How are Gen Z becoming increasingly progressive and left-leaning? What's the real impact of social media and how young people form their worldviews today? In this eye-opening episode, host Brian Nichols digs deep with commentator Olivia Rondeau on the ideological shifts happening with younger generations. They explore how Gen Z are being shaped by social media platforms like TikTok, the emergence of "social death" for dissenting views, and the long-term risks if we don't course-correct. Rondeau shares her first-hand experience getting sucked into leftist ideology online as a teen and how she eventually broke out. She contrasts the differences between past and present social media, explaining why today's algorithms and influences make it far more difficult. Nichols and Rondeau also discuss constructive solutions, like the need for more nuanced right-wing voices to meet Gen Z where they are. Rondeau emphasizes that conservatives must be better at welcoming those who leave the left and not dismiss them as "unsaveable". This vital conversation breaks down all the key factors in generational shifts happening before our eyes. Learn why we urgently need a different approach to counter manipulation and reach young minds more effectively! ❤️ Order Cardio Miracle (https://www.briannicholsshow.com/heart) with code TBNS at checkout for 15% off and take a step towards better heart health and overall well-being!
Kingston, ON has a fantastically bright craft beer scene, and no brewery has taken that more literally than Daft. Co-Founder Adam and brewer Rich joined Cee and Nate to chat about what's changed since we spoke to them last in late 2021, the move to cans from bottles, aging their dark beers, how amazing West Coast IPAs are, where the Kingston beer scene is at, the challenges of distributing beer, their LCBO switch out, and some of the stories behind their beer names. They got into a gang of Daft brews, including Barenaked Light Lager, Thirst Trap DDH IPA, Day Off Strawberry, Peach & Cream IPA, Throwing Shade Black Lager, Down By The River West Coast IPA, and Dad Bod DIPA. This was super fun, cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads
