On the first of October 2019, former Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty was appointed at the Interim Inspector-General of Murray-Darling Basin Water Resources for a period of 12 months. It followed his role as the Northern Basin Commissioner. Mr Keelty was appointed to this position to help create new laws under the 2007 Water Act to create a permanent, statutory position.   In August 2021, the role of the Inspector-General of Water Compliance was officially filled by Troy Grant, after Mr Keelty decided not to continue in the role. This episode of Water's Edge gives listeners a sneak peak at what it was like during the establishment phase of the role of the Inspector-General of Water Compliance.

Troy Grant, the Chairman of International Rugby League talks to Dave Woods about the future of the international game. The World Cup is just over three months away, but there is no international calendar in place following that tournament. So when will forthcoming tours be announced; is there an appetite in Australia for test match rugby league; how can the sport grow the number of elite nations competing; and what are the plans for women's and wheelchair internationals? TIMECODES: 01:30 Troy gives some background to his career in rugby league, the difficulties of his role and how he's trying to change things. 07:35 He confirms there is huge interest in the World Cup TV rights in Australia, but the organisers are not prepared to just ‘give them away' as in previous years. 09:00 The issue for international rugby league is the players aren't centrally contracted, but the appetite is there, although he admits an opportunity has definitely been missed in recent years. 13:40 Troy says the international calendar following the World Cup will be released after the tournament and they're looking at producing a 12-year one. 15:45 He respects the heritage of the Great Britain Lions, but favours more competition for Scotland, Ireland, Wales and France to develop those nations. 18:00 Despite the perception, Troy says the NRL have invested more in the international game in the southern hemisphere, than Super League have done over here. 20:35 He doesn't envisage rugby league players ever being centrally contracted like in other sports. He feels to grow the international game it's more important all fixtures have genuine meaning. 23:25 Troy hints that New Zealand will tour England in 2023 and Australia in 2024. 24;35 He doesn't agree that nations should be placed in tiers as they are now. And if players do qualify as dual-nationals, they should be allowed to choose who they play for, allowing a better spread of talent. 29:00 Future tours will not be restricted to the men's game, they will possibly also include the women's and wheelchair teams. 32:00 He believes the focus over here should be on expanding the impact and the number of games which the home nations play. 36:25 Troy doesn't believe the World Cup should be played every two years, as it will lose its impact and prestige. 37:25 Ultimately he's looking to put a multi-tour format in place each year, so more than one nation is touring in the northern or southern hemisphere at any one time.

 Hello and welcome to a very special month of Flaghunters. This month, we are celebrating and honoring Woman's History Month by having some of the best woman that I know in and around the game of Golf ! We start the celebration off with Mia Hamm. I first met Mia through a mutual friend last year and we got to spend some time on the Golf Course.  Although I have heard of her, I didn't know much about her. What I found out in the 4 hours we spent together was that she was extremely cool and kind.  I could tell that she was passionate about the game and focused on how she can get better. I loved her intensity and great spirit of curiosity. She asked me some great questions on how to manage a golf course to her game and shared some of the things that her and her Golf Coach, Troy Grant work on in her game.  It was a great day. Cool right ? Then I get a text from our friend with Mia attached to it asking for me to caddy for her in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.  From the middle of Fall until the week of the Tourney, Mia and I texted about the things that I thought she should work on to get ready for these golf courses. As anyone knows that have played Pebble, Spyglass and Monterey Peninsula Country Club Shore Course, they are not easy courses. Mia was eager to get to work and took my advice to heart. She also put me in touch with her coach Troy and we became fast friends.   When it came tournment week, little did Mia know, Troy and I were constantly texting each other. Me, sending Mia's swing on video to Troy and Troy relating back the things that they work on. We did it every day, before and after. Troy was instructing me to keep her as present as possible and don't let her go dark, lol. With all of that being said, we had a great week.   In this conversation, I learned that Mia is a very humble Star. Not only, was she kind to all of the people that asked her for a picture of a autograph, she was very respectful of the Men that we were paired with and has great respect for the game of Golf.  We talk these things in this conversation and about the process of improvement and how she took some of the great lessons she learned from her years of playing Soccer into her Golf game. The PROCESS in applicable in any endevor to acheive excellence and Mia talks in great detail about it.   What I learned from Mia was that the road to excellence is NOT a straight path. There are numerous ups and downs, defeats and frustrations. That everyone experiences nerves and anxieties. To be open and ask for help. To show up for people because you never know when you might need people to show up for you. To always have a great spirit of curiosity and, to be teachable. Lastly what I learned from Mia, that even with her great popularity and her star status, these things are trumped by her great character. To me that's all that matters. Thank you Mia for exemplifying these great traits to me and for making the world a better place.   It was my honor to spend time with Mia and her husband Nomar. I'm forever grateful to them for welcoming me in with open arms and I proudly call them my friends. Lastly for Nomar, GO GIANTS !!!!!!!!

 Welcome to Flaghunters ! Today,  we're fortunate enough to have Troy Grant on the Podcast ! Troy hails from Long Beach, California and his academy is at the Recreation Park 18 Golf Course also in Long Beach. Troy also teaches in Las Vegas and will work alongside Butch Harmon at his school a few times a year.  I was introduced to Troy by one of his students, Mia Hamm. Mia had asked me to caddy for her in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. When Mia got invited to play, she reached out to me to caddy for her and in the few months of preparation for the Tourney, she put me in touch with Troy. For a couple of months, Mia, Troy and I were in lock-step in getting Mia prepped and ready to roll in her first AT&T. Troy and I became fast friends and thankfully, we share the same views and thoughts on the game and the swing motion. The interaction was seamless and off we went.  Troy has had numerous athletes come to him for instruction. He has a great way of explaining the process and to also enjoy the process and curb expectations that athletes have when they take up the game of Golf. Golf as you all know, can be pretty hard and extremely frustrating, especially to those who have mastered another sport. Good golf requires that right attention in the right places, no matter what your background is. Troy does a fantastic job of explaining that and helping people get better and enjoy the process !  I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation and I highly recommend anyone to go and see Troy. Everyone has a responsibility to fact-check what we read in news channels. Read news articles in their entirety, rather than just scanning the headlines. Separate the content of an argument, from the character of the person. Before writing-off relationships due to a disagreement, pursue common ground and look at the 'scorecard' of the person's history with you. When voicing opinions, rather than simply repeating the problem, bring a solution or at least a solution-focused attitude to the exchange.  It's in our self-interest to be collaborative, both at work and in our personal lives. There's many opportunities to become involved in government, seek out how you can contribute to a local organisation. If you've experienced criticism as a leader, be encouraged. Recall moments when your investment has impacted others, then allow memory to motivate you to keep going. In this episode, we take a sneak peek behind the political scenes with NSW state politician, Troy Grant. We look at how we can be involved in public debate, voice our ideas and defend truths, all without leaving a trail of emotional destruction behind us. Episode Highlights: Understand the value of giving back to your community. Realise that your life experiences will shape the way you respond to others. Everyone has varying levels of resilience to criticism, politicians aren't immune. Social Media is a wonderful tool, but can also cause hurt through anonymity. Everyone has a responsibility to fact-check what we read in news channels. Read news articles in their entirety, rather than just scanning the headlines. Separate the content of an argument, from the character of the person. Before writing-off relationships due to a disagreement, pursue common ground and look at the 'scorecard' of the person's history with you. When voicing opinions, rather than simply repeating the problem, bring a solution or at least a solution-focused attitude to the exchange.  It's in our self-interest to be collaborative, both at work and in our personal lives. There's many opportunities to become involved in government, seek out how you can contribute to a local organisation. If you've experienced criticism as a leader, be encouraged. Recall moments when your investment has impacted others, then allow memory to motivate you to keep going.
