27 Then Peter answering, said to him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed thee: what therefore shall we have?Tunc respondens Petrus, dixit ei : Ecce nos reliquimus omnia, et secuti sumus te : quid ergo erit nobis? 28 And Jesus said to them: Amen, I say to you, that you, who have followed me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of his majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting. St Bernardine, born of noble parentage, left all and entered the Franciscan Order and become one of it's chief glories.  1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride.Tunc simile erit regnum caelorum decem virginibus : quae accipientes lampades suas exierunt obviam sponso et sponsae. 2 And five of them were foolish, and five wise.Quinque autem ex eis erant fatuae, et quinque prudentes : 3 But the five foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them:sed quinque fatuae, acceptis lampadibus, non sumpserunt oleum secum : 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps.prudentes vero acceperunt oleum in vasis suis cum lampadibus. 5 And the bridegroom tarrying, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh, go ye forth to meet him.Media autem nocte clamor factus est : Ecce sponsus venit, exite obviam ei. 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.Tunc surrexerunt omnes virgines illae, et ornaverunt lampades suas. 8 And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out. 9 The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 Now whilst they went to buy, the bridegroom came: and they that were ready, went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut. 11 But at last come also the other virgins, saying: Lord, Lord, open to us.Novissime vero veniunt et reliquae virgines, dicentes : Domine, domine, aperi nobis. 12 But he answering said: Amen I say to you, I know you not.At ille respondens, ait : Amen dico vobis, nescio vos. 13 Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour.Vigilate itaque, quia nescitis diem, neque horamSt Catherine of the Order of St Dominic, led a life of great penance. 1 And on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalen cometh early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre; and she saw the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2 She ran, therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith to them: They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. 3 Peter therefore went out, and that other disciple, and they came to the sepulchre. 4 And they both ran together, and that other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. 5 And when he stooped down, he saw the linen cloths lying; but yet he went not in.Et cum se inclinasset, vidit posita linteamina : non tamen introivit. 6 Then cometh Simon Peter, following him, and went into the sepulchre, and saw the linen cloths lying,Venit ergo Simon Petrus sequens eum, et introivit in monumentum, et vidit linteamina posita, 7 And the napkin that had been about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but apart, wrapped up into one place.et sudarium, quod fuerat super caput ejus, non cum linteaminibus positum, sed separatim involutum in unum locum. 8 Then that other disciple also went in, who came first to the sepulchre: and he saw, and believed.Tunc ergo introivit et ille discipulus qui venerat primus ad monumentum : et vidit, et credidit : 9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.nondum enim sciebant Scripturam, quia oportebat eum a mortuis resurgere.

36 Now whilst they were speaking these things, Jesus stood in the midst of them, and saith to them: Peace be to you; it is I, fear not.Dum autem haec loquuntur, stetit Jesus in medio eorum, et dicit eis : Pax vobis : ego sum, nolite timere. 37 But they being troubled and frightened, supposed that they saw a spirit. 38 And he said to them: Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?Et dixit eis : Quid turbati estis, et cogitationes ascendunt in corda vestra? 39 See my hands and feet, that it is I myself; handle, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me to have.videte manus meas, et pedes, quia ego ipse sum; palpate et videte, quia spiritus carnem et ossa non habet, sicut me videtis habere. 40 And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and feet. 41 But while they yet believed not, and wondered for joy, he said: Have you any thing to eat? 42 And they offered him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honeycomb. At illi obtulerunt ei partem piscis assi et favum mellis. 43 And when he had eaten before them, taking the remains, he gave to them. 44 And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.Et dixit ad eos : Haec sunt verba quae locutus sum ad vos cum adhuc essem vobiscum, quoniam necesse est impleri omnia quae scripta sunt in lege Moysi, et prophetis, et Psalmis de me. 45 Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.Tunc aperuit illis sensum ut intelligerent Scripturas, 46 And he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead, the third day:et dixit eis : Quoniam sic scriptum est, et sic oportebat Christum pati, et resurgere a mortuis tertia die : 47 And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.et praedicari in nomine ejus poenitentiam, et remissionem peccatorum in omnes gentes, incipientibus ab Jerosolyma.

14 And he was casting out a devil, and the same was dumb: and when he had cast out the devil, the dumb spoke: and the multitudes were in admiration at it:Et erat ejiciens daemonium, et illud erat mutum. 15 But some of them said: He casteth out devils by Beelzebub, the prince of devils. 16 And others tempting, asked of him a sign from heaven.Et alii tentantes, signum de caelo quaerebant ab eo. 17 But he seeing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself, shall be brought to desolation, and house upon house shall fall. 18 And if Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because you say, that through Beelzebub I cast out devils. 19 Now if I cast out devils by Beelzebub; by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.Si autem ego in Beelzebub ejicio daemonia : filii vestri in quo ejiciunt? ideo ipsi judices vestri erunt. 20 But if I by the finger of God cast out devils; doubtless the kingdom of God is come upon you.Porro si in digito Dei ejicio daemonia : profecto pervenit in vos regnum Dei. 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his court, those things are in peace which he possesseth. 22 But if a stronger than he come upon him, and overcome him; he will take away all his armour wherein he trusted, and will distribute his spoils. 23 He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth. 24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through places without water, seeking rest; and not finding, he saith: I will return into my house whence I came out. 25 And when he is come, he findeth it swept and garnished. 26 Then he goeth and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and entering in they dwell there. And the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. 27 And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifting up her voice, said to him: Blessed is the womb that bore thee, and the paps that gave thee suck. 28 But he said: Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep it.At ille dixit : Quinimmo beati, qui audiunt verbum Dei et custodiunt illud.

1 Then Jesus was led by the spirit into the desert, to be tempted by the devil.Tunc Jesus ductus est in desertum a Spiritu, ut tentaretur a diabolo. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry. 3 And the tempter coming said to him: If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.Et accedens tentator dixit ei : Si Filius Dei es, dic ut lapides isti panes fiant. 4 Who answered and said: It is written, Not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.Qui respondens dixit : Scriptum est : Non in solo pane vivit homo, sed in omni verbo, quod procedit de ore Dei. 5 Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him upon the pinnacle of the temple,Tunc assumpsit eum diabolus in sanctam civitatem, et statuit eum super pinnaculum templi, 6 And said to him: If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written: That he hath given his angels charge over thee, and in their hands shall they bear thee up, lest perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone.et dixit ei : Si Filius Dei es, mitte te deorsum. 7 Jesus said to him: It is written again: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.Ait illi Jesus : Rursum scriptum est : Non tentabis Dominum Deum tuum. 8 Again the devil took him up into a very high mountain, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them,Iterum assumpsit eum diabolus in montem excelsum valde : et ostendit ei omnia regna mundi, et gloriam eorum, 9 And said to him: All these will I give thee, if falling down thou wilt adore me.et dixit ei : Haec omnia tibi dabo, si cadens adoraveris me. 10 Then Jesus saith to him: Begone, Satan: for it is written, The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil left him; and behold angels came and ministered to him. Give me Thy blessing, O Lord.

38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying: Master we would see a sign from thee.Tunc responderunt ei quidam de scribis et pharisaeis, dicentes : Magister, volumus a te signum videre. 39 Who answering said to them: An evil and adulterous generation seeketh a sign: and a sign shall not be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. 40 For as Jonas was in the whale's belly three days and three nights: so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.Sicut enim fuit Jonas in ventre ceti tribus diebus, et tribus noctibus, sic erit Filius hominis in corde terrae tribus diebus et tribus noctibus. 41 The men of Ninive shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they did penance at the preaching of Jonas. And behold a greater than Jonas here.Viri Ninivitae surgent in judicio cum generatione ista, et condemnabunt eam : quia poenitentiam egerunt in praedicatione Jonae. Et ecce plus quam Jonas hic. 42 The queen of the south shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold a greater than Solomon here. 43 And when an unclean spirit is gone out of a man he walketh through dry places seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith: I will return into my house from whence I came out. And coming he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.Tunc dicit : Revertar in domum meam, unde exivi. Et veniens invenit eam vacantem, scopis mundatam, et ornatam. 45 Then he goeth, and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is made worse than the first. So shall it be also to this wicked generation. 46 As he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold his mother and his brethren stood without, seeking to speak to him.Adhuc eo loquente ad turbas, ecce mater ejus et fratres stabant foras, quaerentes loqui ei. 47 And one said unto him: Behold thy mother and thy brethren stand without, seeking thee.Dixit autem ei quidam : Ecce mater tua, et fratres tui foris stant quaerentes te. 48 But he answering him that told him, said: Who is my mother, and who are my brethren? 49 And stretching forth his hand towards his disciples, he said: Behold my mother and my brethren.Et extendens manum in discipulos suos, dixit : Ecce mater mea, et fratres mei. 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father, that is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

13 Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour.Vigilate itaque, quia nescitis diem, neque horam.  23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened to a king, who would take an account of his servants. 24 And when he had begun to take the account, one was brought to him, that owed him ten thousand talents. 25 And as he had not wherewith to pay it, his lord commanded that he should be sold, and his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 But that servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.Procidens autem servus ille, orabat eum, dicens : Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi.  27 And the lord of that servant being moved with pity, let him go and forgave him the debt.Misertus autem dominus servi illius, dimisit eum, et debitum dimisit ei.  28 But when that servant was gone out, he found one of his fellow servants that owed him an hundred pence: and laying hold of him, throttled him, saying: Pay what thou owest. 29 And his fellow servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.Et procidens conservus ejus, rogabat eum, dicens : Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi.  30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he paid the debt. 31 Now his fellow servants seeing what was done, were very much grieved, and they came and told their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord called him; and said to him: Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all the debt, because thou besoughtest me:Tunc vocavit illum dominus suus : et ait illi : Serve nequam, omne debitum dimisi tibi quoniam rogasti me :  33 Shouldst not thou then have had compassion also on thy fellow servant, even as I had compassion on thee?nonne ergo oportuit et te misereri conservi tui, sicut et ego tui misertus sum?  34 And his lord being angry, delivered him to the torturers until he paid all the debt.Et iratus dominus ejus tradidit eum tortoribus, quoadusque redderet universum debitum.  35 So also shall my heavenly Father do to you, if you forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.

1 And Jesus answering, spoke again in parables to them, saying:Et respondens Jesus, dixit iterum in parabolis eis, dicens :  2 The kingdom of heaven is likened to a king, who made a marriage for his son. 3 And he sent his servants, to call them that were invited to the marriage; and they would not come. 4 Again he sent other servants, saying: Tell them that were invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my calves and fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come ye to the marriage. 5 But they neglected, and went their own ways, one to his farm, and another to his merchandise.Illi autem neglexerunt : et abierunt, alius in villam suam, alius vero ad negotiationem suam :  6 And the rest laid hands on his servants, and having treated them contumeliously, put them to death.reliqui vero tenuerunt servos ejus, et contumeliis affectos occiderunt.  7 But when the king had heard of it, he was angry, and sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city. 8 Then he saith to his servants: The marriage indeed is ready; but they that were invited were not worthy.Tunc ait servis suis : Nuptiae quidem paratae sunt, sed qui invitati erant, non fuerunt digni :  9 Go ye therefore into the highways; and as many as you shall find, call to the marriage.ite ergo ad exitus viarum, et quoscumque inveneritis, vocate ad nuptias.  10 And his servants going forth into the ways, gathered together all that they found, both bad and good: and the marriage was filled with guests. 11 And the king went in to see the guests: and he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment. 12 And he saith to him: Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? But he was silent. At ille obmutavit.  13 Then the king said to the waiters: Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Tunc dicit rex ministris : Ligatis manibus et pedibus ejus, mittite eum in tenebras exteriores : ibi erit fletus et stridor dentium.  14 For many are called, but few are chosen.Multi enim sunt vocati, pauci vero electi. Parable of the marriage guests. All men are called to the heavenly beatific union, but few are chosen: those who wear the nuptial robe of baptism and of the state of grace.

1 And it came to pass, when Jesus went into the house of one of the chief of the Pharisees, on the sabbath day, to eat bread, that they watched him. 2 And behold, there was a certain man before him that had the dropsy.Et ecce homo quidam hydropicus erat ante illum.  3 And Jesus answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying: Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? 4 But they held their peace. But he taking him, healed him, and sent him away.At illi tacuerunt. Ipse vero apprehensum sanavit eum, ac dimisit.  5 And answering them, he said: Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit, and will not immediately draw him out, on the sabbath day? 6 And they could not answer him to these things.Et non poterant ad haec respondere illi.  7 And he spoke a parable also to them that were invited, marking how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them:Dicebat autem et ad invitatos parabolam, intendens quomodo primos accubitus eligerent, dicens ad illos :  8 When thou art invited to a wedding, sit not down in the first place, lest perhaps one more honourable than thou be invited by him:Cum invitatus fueris ad nuptias, non discumbas in primo loco, ne forte honoratior te sit invitatus ab illo.  9 And he that invited thee and him, come and say to thee, Give this man place: and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place. 10 But when thou art invited, go, sit down in the lowest place; that when he who invited thee, cometh, he may say to thee: Friend, go up higher. Then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at table with thee. Tunc erit tibi gloria coram simul discumbentibus :  11 Because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.quia omnis, qui se exaltat, humiliabitur : et qui se humiliat, exaltabitur.
