In seiner Klasse absolut einzigartig. Doch wird der Opel Meriva OPC deshalb automatisch zum Klassiker? Darüber reden in dieser Folge Frank Otero Molanes, Jens Seltrecht und Lukas Hambrecht.Executive Producer: Christoph Falke & Ruben Schulze-FröhlichProjektleitung: Lukas HambrechtSounddesign & Produktion: Philipp KlauerMarketing und Ansprechpartner: Bastian SchonauerCopyrights Cover: www.oldtimer-markt.de Hosted on Acast. ‘With Potocki,' Italo Calvino wrote, ‘we can understand that the fantastic is the exploration of the obscure zone where the most unrestrained passions of desire and the terrors of guilt mix together.' The gothic is a central seam of the fantastic, and in this episode Marina and Adam turn to two writers in that mode who lived over a hundred years apart but drew on the period of the Napoleonic wars: Jan Potocki and Isak Dinesen (the pseudonym of Karen Blixen). Potocki's The Manuscript Found in Saragossa (1805) is a complex sequence of tales within tales, written from the point of view of the early 19th century but describing events in Spain in the 18th century. It's a powerful commentary on the preoccupations of the Enlightenment and the repression of historical guilt. In Seven Gothic Tales (1934), Dinesen confronts some of the most unsettling aspect of sexual guilt and desire with psychological astuteness. Adam and Marina discuss the ways in which, in both works, the gothic was able to explore areas of human experience that other genres struggled to accommodate.Non-subscribers will only hear an extract from this episode. In the stories of Franz Kafka we find the fantastical wearing the most ordinary, realist dress. Though haunted by abjection and failure, Kafka has come to embody the power and potential of literary imagination in the 20th century as it confronts the nightmares of modernity. In this episode, Marina Warner is joined by Adam Thirlwell to discuss the ways in which Kafka extended the realist tradition of the European novel by drawing on ‘simple forms' – proverbs, wisdom literature and animal fables – to push the boundaries of what literature could explore, with reference to stories including ‘The Judgment', ‘In the Penal Colony' and ‘A Report to the Academy'.Non-subscribers will only hear an extract from this episode. A meditation preached in Ernescliff College, Toronto, on March 28, 2025. Its been 100 years since that day in which a young 23-year Josemaria Escriva was ordained to the priesthood in the Basilica of Our Lady of El Pilar in Zaragoza, Miguel de los Santos.  There are things that we invite into our soul that leave us with a permanent imprint, a mark, an impression, like a long-lasting, expensive perfume that can become attractive to those around us. This is the story of the expansive grace of a man's ordination to the priesthood.Thumbnail: Josemaría Escrivá as a seminarian in Saragossa.Music: Original track by Michael Lee of Toronto

In the year 40 A.D., while praying one night on the river bank, the Virgin appeared with the Child Jesus standing on a pillar and asked Saint James and his eight disciples to build a church on the site, promising that “it will stand from that moment until the end of time in order that God may work miracles and wonders through my intercession for all those who place themselves under my patronage.” Nuestra Señora del Pilar is the patron of Spain and all Hispanic peoples. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/nuestra-senora-del-pilar-our-lady-of-the-pillar-622 The Church also celebrates Saint Wilfrid of York. Wilfrid worked to enforce Roman liturgical practice in seventh-century England, founded Benedictine monasteries, and rebuilt the minster of York, all while living a simple and holy life himself. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-wilfrid-of-york-17

Friends of the Rosary: Today, October 12, is the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar, Nuestra Señora del Pilar, the Patroness of the Hispanic peoples and Spain. In the year 40, while living in Jerusalem, the Blessed Virgin Mary supernaturally appeared to the Apostle James the Greater while he was preaching in the old Hispania, on the bank of the Ebro river in Saragossa. It was the first Marian apparition, and unique because it exhibited a mystical phenomenon of bilocation. Mary appeared atop a column or pillar of stone, and she assured James that the people of Hispania would become Christians and their faith would be as strong and durable as the pillar on which she stood. Also, she asked Saint James and his eight disciples to build a church on the site, promising that “it will stand from that moment until the end of time in order that God may work miracles and wonders through my intercession for all those who place themselves under my patronage.” Today, in that place a huge, spectacular basilica stands, reflecting that Spain, where is located the Way of St. James, is or should be a Marian land. The church of Our Lady of the Pilar in Saragossa is the first church dedicated to Mary in history and it remains standing to this day, having survived invasions and wars. For example, in the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939, three bombs were dropped on the church and none of them exploded. Also, October 12, 1492, is the day Christopher Columbus first sighted American land, and when the first Mass in the Americas was celebrated. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! The attack took place October 10 around noon in São Mateus church in the town of São Mateus do Sul located in Paraná state in southern Brazil. “Our statues were broken, but our faith is firm,” said the pastor of the parish, Father José Carlos Emanoel dos Santos, at an October 11 press conference. The priest said he was grateful for the many expressions of solidarity they have received. At the press conference, it was also reported that the local police already have a suspect. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/252525/catholic-church-brazil-desecrated-28-statues-saints-destroyed Bishop Jeffrey Monforton of Steubenville, Ohio, announced in a message to the diocese on Tuesday that a merger of the local Church with the Diocese of Columbus seems to be the best response to the decline in the area's population. The Steubenville diocese comprises 13 counties in southeastern Ohio, and the Columbus diocese, which borders it to the west, includes 23 counties in south-central Ohio. The Steubenville diocese was erected out of the territory of the Diocese of Columbus in 1944. There has been a 45% decline in the number of persons attending Sunday Mass between 1990 and 2019. The Steubenville diocese has also experienced financial difficulties in recent years. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/252526/steubenville-diocese-faces-prospect-of-union-with-columbus-with-fortitude Many YouTube videos produced by Catholic or pro-life organizations will now bear an abortion disclaimer and links to an abortion webpage, as YouTube claims that abortion is a topic prone to misinformation. The move means many YouTube videos about Pope Francis, Catholic teaching on abortion, and alternatives to abortion now include links to abortion information that video creators or video subjects might reject. CNA sought comment from YouTube but did not receive a response prior to publication. YouTube announced the information panel on July 21, saying that it will remove “content that provides instructions for unsafe abortion methods or promotes false claims about abortion safety.” https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/252518/youtube-adds-abortion-info-to-catholic-pro-life-videos Today the Church honors Our Lady of the Pillar, the first recorded Marian apparition. Mary appeared to Saint James the Apostle, the brother of Saint John the Evangelist, on the bank of the river Ebro in Saragossa, Spain. Unlike every other recorded apparition, this one took place during the earthly life of the Mother of God. In the year 40 A.D., while praying one night on the tobrt bank, the Virgin appeared with the Child Jesus standing on a pillar and asked Saint James and his eight disciples to build a church on the site, promising that “it will stand from that moment until the end of time in order that God may work miracles and wonders through my intercession for all those who place themselves under my patronage.” Nuestra Señora del Pilar is the patron of Spain and all Hispanic peoples. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/nuestra-senora-del-pilar-our-lady-of-the-pillar-622 The Church also celebrates Saint Wilfrid of York. Wilfrid worked to enforce Roman liturgical practice in seventh-century England, founded Benedictine monasteries, and rebuilt the minster of York, all while living a simply and holy life himself. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-wilfrid-of-york-17
