O holy virgin and martyr, you sang a song of love to Jesus, a song that could not be dimmed, could not be taken away, for you were protected by an angel of the Lord and willing to give your life to maintain your love for Him – pray for us poor souls of this day and age from whom purity is so far removed, who need deep conversion to believe, to see the angel at your side, to know the path to which the Lord calls us, the Cross which is every Christian's song. So far removed, so far removed are we, and so impassible is the way to Him… inspire in our souls, dear saint, the desire for the incorruptible that beat in your heart, that we too might sing a song to Jesus pleasing to His ears.

Friends of the Rosary, Today, November 22, we celebrate the Memorial of St. Cecilia, a virgin and martyr, one of the most venerated of Roman saints. Her martyrdom probably occurred during the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus, about the year 230. In 1599, her grave was opened, and her body was found incorrupt in a cypress wood coffin. Cecilia led a life of prayer and meditation. She had vowed lifelong virginity, but a youth named Valerian, relying upon the approval of her parents, hoped to marry her. When the wedding night arrived, she told Valerian, "There is a secret, Valerian, I wish to tell you. I have as a lover an angel of God who jealously guards my body." Valerian promised to believe in Christ if he could see that angel. Cecilia explained how such was impossible without baptism, and Valerian consented to be baptized. After he was baptized by Pope Urban and returned, he found Cecilia in her little room, lost in prayer, and next to her, the angel of the Lord was standing. Friends of the Rosary: Yesterday, we reflected on the Feast of the Presentation of Mary, marking an early commencement of the Advent season. The Universal Church of Christ inaugurates its new liturgical year on the first Sunday of December. Advent points us both toward Christ's Second Coming in glory at the end of time and also toward Christmas, the celebration of His first coming. Advent urges us to stay awake and vigilant, and and prepare for that great Day of the Lord. It's also an invitation to recognize His presence already with us while building together the Kingdom of Heaven. Our salvation is achieved in the community by exercising the grace of faith.
