Things that happen to us at a young age have a habit of sticking with us. That's what happened to Troy Ruptash when he was competitive figure skater. Born and raised in Vegreville, Alberta, Troy had many days where he found it hard to be the only male in the figure skating group, and absorbed far more than his fair share of belittling and bullying. Those incidents shaped Troy's later decisions to leave skating altogether and when he should come out to his family, and later publicly, about his relationship with his life partner Craig. In this episode, you'll hear about Troy's journey as the figure skater who frequented the Glenora and Glencoe in Edmonton and Calgary, to becoming an actor in New York. You'll hear about the dozens of roles he's played on films and shows you have certainly watched, and he discusses encounters with actors like Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jon Hamm and George Clooney. You can see what movies and TV shows Troy has starred in here. But more importantly, Troy has put his heart and soul into a new movie which encompasses much of what you will hear in this podcast. They Who Surround Us is a new movie written and directed by Troy, about a Ukrainian farmer living in Alberta who loses his wife in a tragic accident. Guilt and grief send him into an emotional spiral where mysterious and inexplicable events force him to relive traumatic incidents from his childhood in Ukraine. Next week's episode will feature Spencer Beach. I know some people might have heard Carrie on 96.3 The Breeze talking about that episode, but we made the switch because Troy's movie is going to released at the Edmonton Film Festival. Check out the trailer here. Watch for free on Super Channel here. The movie airs October 9th at 6:30pm Mountain Time. Please rate, review and follow the podcast! Also, Carrie has a Facebook group you can join. Check it out here. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On August 6, 2017, 17 year old James Candy climbed out of his bedroom window during the night and left his home in the Vegreville area of Alberta, Canada with only the clothes he was wearing and the lariat he used on the family farm. Earlier that evening, his parents had talked to him about his use of marijuana in their home after his mom found a small amount of it in the pocket of his jacket. Before he went to bed, he and his dad made plans to do some work the next day, agreed on a time, and said "I love you" to each other. This would be the last time James’ father spoke to his youngest son. The next day, his parents realized that he was missing and called the local police. Searches for James commenced, however, no trace of James has ever been found. If you have any information about James’ disappearance, you can call the Vegreville Royal Canadian Mounted Police at 780-632-2223.You can follow James’ story on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/FindJamesCandyThis episode was sponsored by:Robinhood- Robinhood is giving listeners a FREE stock like Apple, Ford or Sprint to help build your portfolio! Episode 33 - "Attack on Vegreville" this episode takes off from Toronto as Carlos is joined by Crystal Warner, National Executive Vice President of the Canada Employment And Immigration Union and Michelle Henderson, NVP for Alberta/NWT/Nunavut CEIU to talk about Trudeau's ongoing attacks on going Vegreville, Alberta. After campaigning on promises to respect and support rural Canada, Trudeau's government has, without warning, decided to "relocate" the IRCC office which processes temporary and permanent residency applications, studies permits and other immigration files away from rural Vegreville to Edmonton. This decision has had a ripple effect across the small community of Vegreville and these folks aren't backing down without a fight. Listen to Michelle and Crystal describe the challenges their members are facing and the effects this "relocation" would have on this small town.
I have been loving teaching yoga in Vegreville for about 6 years. I find the reason that I love to do yoga myself is that I always feel better for it! And it is for this reason that I love to teach yoga - because it is so gratifying to be able to help other people feel better too! Prior to my certification, I worked for fifteen years in the school system as an Educational Assistant, so it was an easy transition to teaching in the studio. I came to the practice myself for the physical benefits, as I think many in our Western culture do. But I quickly found that many of the practices, though simple, were very profound. The act of simply becoming aware of your breath and your body, and how you're feeling physically, mentally, emotionally, can have such a huge impact on stress and anxiety levels. Yoga translates as yoke or union, and by simply reconnecting our physical, spiritual and mental aspects, we can come to find more balance in our lives. I am married to Cam, and we are happy parents to six grown children and two grandchildren. We live and work on a farm south of Vegreville, as well as work together in another business. Aside from my love of yoga, I enjoy time with our family, the outdoors, hiking, snowboarding, and water sports. I can't thank you enough for the support I received after sending my last message regarding the new station for Exploring Mind and Body on Country 106.5 in Vegreville. Truthfully, I didn't know if it was a good time to share, if you would be interested in hearing the news, if I send out too many messages, etc. The feedback, excitement and heartfelt messages that came back was almost overwhelming. Sometimes I feel like I have an army of supporters behind me pushing me forward to new heights. I put together a show and a few details, excitement and my gratefulness for having you here with me.
