But there was a a problem. Willie had lost all his motivation and hadn't trained in ages, so how on earth could he get from being on his couch to the finish line of the Norseman - a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and a marathon that finishes at the top of a mountain - in just eight months? Hear his amazing story on this week's Global Gael.

Join me for My Chat about the Marrowbone Lane bottling that the Irish Whiskey Society released in 2016. In a nod to the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, where the William Jameson distillery in Marrowbone Lane in The Liberties area of Dublin was used as a stronghold by the Irish Republicans. This landmark release of this 11yr old Single Pot Still Irish whiskey, in the heavier, oilier trad pot style stands out as one of the best Irish Whiskeys of the modern age imo. I spoke to Peter White (who was IWS vice-president at the time), Fionnán O'Connor (Author of A Glass Apart & cask committee at the time) and Willie Murphy aka PotStillWill (also IWS cask committee at the time) who were instrumental in getting this Midleton distillate bottled and released for all to enjoy. https://www.irishwhiskeysociety.com/ Willie Murphy: https://twitter.com/PotStillWhiskey Peter White: https://twitter.com/thewhiskeyguy1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Glass-Apart-Irish-Single-Whiskey/dp/1864707232 Have a listen in our chat, Sláinte.

A lot of people are hurting right now. Humans are feeling exhausted and angry that other humans, Black people are STILL losing their lives to state-sanctioned violence and racism. And with the pandemic, families have been torn apart. The news, the images, the posts, it’s a lot, and it’s painful.I felt like this was a good time to share something that feels good to hear, because it’s ok to wanna look around for inspiration and hope especially in a time when we feel like the earth is shaking beneath us.Back in January of 2016, I had interviewed (for my old podcast I’m Enough), a woman by the name of Willie Murphy. At the time, she was 80 years old, today, she’s 83. Willie started power-lifting at the young age of 74! (I just found out that in December of 2019, she beat up a burglar!)She caught my attention because of her powerful life story that I inspired me to believe that it’s NEVER too late.So I thought I’d share this conversation with you as a way to bring a glimmer of hope that:As a society, it’sNever too late to be better.Never too late to do better.Never too late to see better. And in the case of Willie,It’s never too late to get stronger.NOTABLE LINKS:Willie beats up a burglar!
