JOIN TSL WORKSHOPS: https://tslworkshops.circle.so What sounds harder? Writing a pilot alone at your desk, or running your own TV show with 300 folks trying to execute your vision? For Liz Feldman, it's the former, which affirms what we often say on this show: writing is really, really hard. Despite that, Liz has almost 30 years of TV writing experience under her belt, including two hits for Netflix that she created and showran: Dead To Me and No Good Deed. Join us as she unpacks her creative process.
Send us a text(Some clips in this episode have minor spoilers). Oh I love a tone like this: funny, smart but also emotional, dark and dramatic: let's call it an American-neurotic cozy murder mystery. There is a mystery at the heart of this show, and an amazing house, but it's also about a beautiful neighborhood full of interesting couples grappling with serious issues and a desperate desire to own this classic Hollywood home, complete with mandarin tree, in trendy Los Feliz. Who does this house really belong to? Who deserves it more? Who has the resources to compete with the others for it? And should they? Despite some mildly gruesome moments, the story has a heartwarming, happy ending."Shit is about to get real."It's all such a mind-tangle! Yes it is. I hope there's a season 2.More about this "twisty series."This entire cast! Every single person in the ensemble is equally fantastic.Producer/creator Liz Feldman has such an interesting résumé. And of course she now has a podcast.Support the showIf you enjoyed this episode, please click share in your podcast app and tell your friends! Thanks for listening!

Thanks to the success of the beloved Comedy Central series, Broad City, Abbi Jacobson is widely known as a comedic force in film and television. But, as of late, she's busy uniting her comedy skillset with more dramatic performance opportunities, and the power of her ability to do both is undeniable. After soaring in the canceled-too-soon Prime Video series, A League of Their Own, Jacobson joins the ensemble of yet another brilliant comedy and drama combo, Netflix's No Good Deed.At the center of Liz Feldman's (Dead to Me) latest for the streamer, we find Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano as Lydia and Paul Morgan, a couple gearing up to sell their gorgeous 1920s Spanish-style Los Feliz villa. The appeal of the property sparks a bidding war, a war Jacobson's Leslie finds herself right smack in the middle of. Leslie and her wife Sarah, played by Poppy Liu, are ready to do just about anything to snag the house, but then they start to suspect there might be some dark and dangerous secrets tied to the property — secrets that'll test how far they're truly willing to go to get their dream home. As we now come to expect from a Liz Feldman show, No Good Deed is a laugh-out-loud romp that's also brimming with heart and pathos. Jacobson is especially adept at achieving a pitch-perfect blend of the two qualities, further cementing the fact that she's not only a hugely talented comedic actress, but a dramatic star, too. In celebration of No Good Deed's release on Netflix, Jacobson swung by for a Collider Ladies Night chat to revisit her choice to leave the Atlantic Theater Company for the The Upright Citizens Brigade, and how, all these years later, she's finally come to accept that she didn't have to study at an acting conservatory to take on dramatic roles. Q&A on the Netflix series No Good Deed with cast Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, Linda Cardellini, Abbi Jacobson, O-T Fagbenle, and Teyonah Parris, and creator & showrunner Liz Feldman. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company. It tells the story of three very different families vying to buy the very same 1920s Spanish style villa that they think will solve all their problems.
Get ready for the rise of Chloe East. She headlined 2016's Jessica Darling's It List, appeared in a number of episodes of Liv and Maddie, and was a series regular on both Kevin (Probably) Saves the World and the 2021 HBO Max series Generation, but the one-two punch of The Fabelmans and Heretic in the feature film realm will undoubtedly put East on the map in a wholly different way. In fact, it already has. She's got a number of highly anticipated projects on the horizon including Liz Feldman's new Netflix series No Good Deed, Kogonada's A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, and At the Sea starring Amy Adams.East was a scene-stealer in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award nominated feature playing Monica, Sammy's devoutly Christian (Gabriel LaBelle) girlfriend. However, it's Heretic that proves she's a true powerhouse in a leading role. She headlines alongside Sophie Thatcher as Sister Paxton and Sister Barnes, respective. They're two young missionaries making the rounds in suburban Colorado telling the locals about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Eventually, they knock on Hugh Grant's Mr. Reed's door. Little do they know, he's ready for them, and he's determined upend their beliefs in the church. With Heretic now playing in theaters nationwide, East joined me for a Collider Ladies Night chat to revisit her earliest inspirations, general love and knowledge of cinema, what it's been like finding her voice in Hollywood thus far, and pinpointing the pitch-perfect tone for her character in Heretic. Complicated Female Friendship, Murder and Mommy Issues *** What took us so long to cover Season Two of one of our favorite shows? Turns out, the timing was perfect for us! (01:36) *** Complicated Woman Rating. Jen Harding and Judy Hale, two of our most complicated female leads, show us even more dimensions this season. We didn’t think it was possible, but Jen gets softer and Judy shows a darker side. They both grow and evolve in such surprising ways! (05:55) *** Scenes. In Episode 2 Jen realizes that Henry’s bird is a mom, which gets us talking about all the moms and mothering this season (19:32); Jen goes all Walter White and gives us a Breaking Bad moment (22:40); scenes with Jen’s body and how much of her pain and love is tied up with her physical body really get to us (24:09); the scene where Judy and Jen’s relationship comes to a head is a total show-stopper and makes the season (28:56); these scenes get us discussing toxic friendships (35:05). *** The Ending. All the twists and turns this season culminate in a final surprising finale that has us talking about what it really means to be a criminal and guessing what will come in Season Three. There is SO much to unpack in this last episode. (38:59) *** Crystal Ball. Our predictions are sprinkled all over the place, but we tick off a few of our ideas here. (52:00) *** That Cliffhanger. Shocking or inevitable? We say both. (55:05) *** What’s Your Damage, Heather? Mommy issues have become a real theme on this podcast lately, and in this season of Dead to Me that damage is on full display for Jen and Judy. (63:48) *** What She Said -- Liz Feldman. Carinn discusses our tweets with Liz Feldman herself and Kate cites a quote about the intimacy of female friendship, which reminds them of their own novel! Carinn hopes they don’t “Thelma and Louise” the end of this series! (68:00) *** Who Won the Show? For Carinn the answer is dancing and for Kate it’s astrology. Confused? Listen and hear why. (79:14) *** Takeaways. Kate lays on the couch, citing another Liz Feldman quote, and shares how she hopes to keep evolving and facing her issues. Carinn reluctantly hops on the couch next to Kate, and roots around for that wound she feels when she watches Judy. Casting directors have a special position within the entertainment industry, matching talent and roles on dozens of projects at once. Actors, of course, want to understand those on the other side of the audition table: What are casting directors looking for, and what exactly do they do? Three Emmy Award nominees for casting, and Senior Editor Elyse Roth, join the podcast to answer those questions and more. Cindy Tolan is the winner of five Artios Awards and an Emmy for her work in casting. Her career spans New York theater, TV, and film, from “Avenue Q” and “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” to “Flight of the Conchords” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” to “Straight Outta Compton,” “If Beale Street Could Talk,” and the forthcoming “West Side Story” movie. Cindy is currently Emmy-nominated again for Amy Sherman-Palladino’s Amazon Prime Video comedy “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Season 3. Sharon Bialy and Sherry Thomas are celebrating a 20-year partnership at their award-winning casting company Bialy/Thomas & Associates. Sharon is known for casting “Rudy,” “Point Break,” and “Mr. Holland’s Opus,” while Sherry got her start on the film “Contact.” Together, they’ve cast Broadway and Los Angeles theater, indie and blockbuster films, and TV hits including “Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul,” “The Walking Dead,” “Barry,” “The Righteous Gemstones,” “The Twilight Zone,” and “The Act.” The seven-time Emmy nominees are now in contention again, for both Liz Feldman’s Netflix comedy “Dead to Me” and Bruce Miller’s Hulu drama “The Handmaid’s Tale.” This episode is brought to you by HBO. It’s the six month anniversary of Pop Fiction Women! We go through our favorite ladies and pick who is most like us, who we want to be friends with, and who we want to (sort of) die. Many a tough call, but surprisingly we were on the same page for the ladies (and NOT the men)! (34:00) *** Carinn and Kate chat about the highlights of the last six months. The “What She Said” segment is a favorite across the board and the social media engagement with the creators has been amazing. Celeste Ng with a re-tweet, Glennon Doyle with the “likes” and actual responses from Liz Feldman, creator of Dead to Me, Liz Tigelaar, showrunner of Little Fires Everywhere, and Taylor Jenkins Reid. Another benefit has been how much we have learned about each other and ourselves doing this podcast! (44:03) *** The stars have aligned and astrology has risen as a hallmark of Pop Fiction Women. Carinn walks us through the astrological signs of all of our creators with a hyperventilating-inducing moment from Taylor Jenkins Reid. After we catch our breath, we examine the patterns among their sun signs, their elements (fire, water, air, earth), and their qualities (cardinal, fixed or mutable). The conclusions are fascinating! Liz Feldman landed her first writing opportunity at the age of 16, on the Nickelodeon series, ‘All That.’ Years later, she got involved with the Groundlings and Second City, eventually meeting her manager, and stepping into a career as a screenwriter. Feldman has credits for writing on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’, ‘The Oscars,’ ‘One Big Happy,’ and ‘2 Broke Girls,’ but she’s also the creator of the new hit series, ‘Dead to Me,’ for Netflix. The series stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. In this interview, Feldman discusses what she learned writing jokes for Ellen DeGeneres, what it means to be a perfectionist in the Writer’s Room, the difference between a great writer and a decent writer, dealing with rejection, and the importance of finding comfort being vulnerable. Some people would have been embarrassed, but we were thrilled that she listened to our podcast! Want to find out the plot twist she revealed? Listen here. (7:30) *** Now it’s time for Dead to Recap where we deep dive into a recap of this season’s brilliant, funny, and compulsive start. Ryan Gamlin spent a decade working on the financial side of health care, before going to medical school. Now, as an anesthesiologist in Los Angeles, he’s on the front lines fighting COVID-19, an experience he describes as “scary, in a way that I never expected to be scared, going to work.”He was scared one day last summer, too, when a California wildfire came within feet of the hospital where he was working. And then a fleet of fire trucks showed up to protect the hospital. “City, county, park service, forest service, new trucks, old trucks, unmarked trucks.”“As I drove home later that day through the protective ring of equipment, I realized the fundamental difference between public safety and health care. Public safety is built on latent capacity. We pay for people and equipment to stand idle, over-prepared for emergencies.”These days, he’s been thinking back to that experience.“We’ve left no latent capacity in health care,” he wrote in a Twitter thread. “And some part of the tragedy that’s now unfolding in this country is because of that. Because we let health care become a business. And because businesses don’t keep a hundred extra fire trucks around, their crews trained and ready, just in case.”We talked with Ryan about his experiences for this week’s episode. With protective equipment in short supply, he said, "It felt like a fire, with no one to call."We ALSO hear some good news, about folks who are stepping up to help — tapping their own latent capacity. That includes people making "ear savers" for health-care workers. Turns out, if you wear a mask all day, the elastic rubs the heck out of the skin behind your ears. Some people are 3-D printing connectors that go around the back of the head. And some people are taking a more low-tech approach. Here's a picture of my friend and neighbor Liz Feldman is the medical director at a local clinic. She's modeling ear-savers that are basically fabric headbands, with buttons sewn in to hold the masks in place, made by a retired colleague from old t-shirts and scavenged buttons. Dead To Me Season One & Liz Feldman: Complicated Friendship **Complicated Woman Rating (Jen & Judy) Kate unpacks the many layers of grieving widow Jen, including her defining characteristic: anger. Carinn describes Judy a liar and a murderer, but acknowledges her other positive attributes, particularly as she relates to Jen. Both agree these two women are complicated and that their friendship is the heart of this show. (1:38) **Jen or Judy - who do we relate to more? Kate declares “it’s not even close” -- she feels like she's all Jen. Carinn relates to Jen’s anger (as we'll hear first hand later!) but notes that we each have a little Judy in us. (10:56) **Conflict is all around. Carinn observes that conflict is present in every element of this show: the characters, the setting, and the music. The cinematography and setting create brilliant visual tension. The music is also another level of conflict: dark scenes and content being narrated by old-fashioned upbeat songs. (16:11) **Scenes: love, lies, and manslaughter Kate discusses the pilot episode’s many plot reveals and reversals, including when Jen discovers that Judy is lying and Steve is not actually dead and that Judy is the one that killed Jen’s husband, Ted (19:09); The episode on Ted’s birthday/celebration of life was full of surprises, but Carinn especially loves the tension of the notes in the balloons and what might be revealed, including Ted’s affair (27:58); Kate recounts the scene where Jen and Judy confront Ted’s mistress and how the two of them help each other with their respective relationship issues, but in the end Carinn is pissed at Judy’s selfish reveal to Jen that Ted killed her to his mistress (32:33); Carinn talks about the Friends of Heaven retreat, which brings poignant empathy for Judy who struggles with whether she is “broken” in the miscarriage workshop scene and shows another example of something that could only have been written by a woman (42:32); Kate loves the scene where Jen finally confesses to Judy, which is more than just Judy finally coming clean, it turns out to be one of the most vulnerable scenes for Jen (49:08); Carinn brings it home with a discussion of the finale when Jen evens the score as Steve floats face down in the pool. (53:53) **What She Said - Liz Feldman. Kate reveals why Liz Feldman leaned into Jen’s anger, which turned out to be more than likable - it’s completely relatable. Carinn talks about a quote on Liz Feldman’s duality, which is so present in Jen and Judy, concluding that tapping into one’s duality is where the magic happens. (57:28) **Crystal ball. Carinn and Kate speculate about what’s coming for Jen & Judy in Season Two, which will be released soon. (70:41) **Takeaways. Kate’s takeaway comes from another Liz Feldman quote about the secret to creating something authentic: find your wound and then try to find a way to express it. Carinn’s takeaway shines a light on friends and creative partners who act as mirrors, reminding you of who you are and who you've always been...like US! Dead to Me and is a Netflix Original, and stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. As always, we take a look at the (Netflix) description: “Her husband? Dead. Her grief, rage and wine glass? Overflowing. With her new BFF riding shotgun, she’s speeding toward rock bottom.” And her neighbor’s take on Mexican lasagna? Not great. We also discuss the conception of the show. Dead to Me is produced by Gloria Sanchez Productions and CBS Television Studios. Gloria Sanchez Productions is a sister company to Gary Sanchez Productions, which is the production company founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Jessica Elbaum runs Gloria Sanchez Productions, which focuses on creating female-led film and TV projects. Linda Cardellini sits down to discuss “Dead to Me,” the show that’s captivated audiences and critics alike. Created by Liz Feldman and co-starring Christina Applegate, it’s an honest study of female friendship and a complex portrayal of grief. Cardellini is having a remarkable year, with back-to-back projects including the Oscar-winning “Green Book,” “Avengers: Endgame” and her hit horror film “The Curse of La Llorona.” Cardellini talks about what it means to work on female-led projects, how she’s stepped up to do things that scare her, and she reflects on the special camaraderie of working on “Freaks and Geeks.”

The Netflix show is created by the insanely talented Liz Feldman, starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, and is as complex and soulful as Lydia. Lydia Hensler is a comedian, actor, writer, and a veteran improviser of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. We talk about: trauma, sobriety, shame, spirituality, how we make up lies – and – this is a trigger warning – Lydia also shares her experiences of being a survivor of rape. Thank you, Lydia for being so open and vulnerable! Music: composed by Sara Nere and Ben Southam. BINGE is produced by Janina Rook. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook!
A week after TV writer Liz Feldman lost a family member unexpectedly and found out her fertility treatment had failed again, she took a meeting with some producers, having been told she didn't need to come with ideas. So she was immersed in loss and blindsided when she was asked for ideas after all. A seasoned improvisor, Feldman delivered. That quick pitch turned into the Netflix series ‘Dead to Me,' a funny show about grief.
"Dead To Me" is new from Liz Feldman on Netflix and is described as a "traumedy." It stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini and they both really shine. No other show on the hot-seat 'cause only half the show is actually present. The other's on his way to the chapel. Also monologous chats about shows getting renewed and why that's obviously a good thing, Detective Pikachu breaking an ambiguous record, 007-25 being cursed, and much much more! Jen (Christina Applegate) is a sardonic widow determined to solve her husband’s recent hit-and-run murder. Judy (Linda Cardellini) is an optimistic free spirit who’s recently suffered her own tragic loss. When the two women meet at a support group, they become unlikely friends. But as they bond, Judy desperately tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it. Netflix's "Dead to Me," created by Liz Feldman, is an addictive dark comedy that dives into the painfully unfiltered, weirdly funny waters of grief, loss and forgiveness.

The Belief In Angels (She Writes Press) Notes to Boys (Rare Bird Books) Join us this evening as two wildy talented authors bring you coming of age tales quite unlike any you've read before. Jules Finn and Samuel Trautman know that sorrow can sink deeply—so deeply it can drown the spirit. In The Belief in Angels, by J. Dylan Yates, these two wounded souls must decide: surrender to the grief that threatens to destroy them, or find the strength to swim for the surface. Growing up in a volatile hippie household on a tiny island off the coast of Boston, Jules's imaginative sense of humor is the weapon she wields as a defense against the chaos of her family's household. But somewhere between gun-waving gambling debt collectors and LSD-laced breakfast cereal adventures, her younger brother Moses dies—and it's a blow from which Jules may never fully recover. Jules's grandfather, Samuel, wants to help his grandchildren, but he's wrapped up in a sad story of his own. Once called Szaja, Samuel is an orthodox Jew who lived through the murderous Ukranian pogroms of the 1920s, as well as the Majdanek Death Camp—but his survival came at an unspeakable price. In their darkest moments, Jules and Samuel receive what could only be explained as divine intervention—serendipitous experiences that give them each the hope they so desperately need. Ultimately, however, they both must look inside themselves for the courage to come to the rescue of their own fractured lives. Notes to Boys: And Other Things I Shouldn't Share in Public is a "mortifying memoir" from bestselling author and tv/film writer Pamela Ribon. Miserably trapped in a small town Texas with no invention of the internet in sight, Ribon spent countless hours of her high school years writing letters to her (often unrequited) crushes. The big question is: Why did she always keep a copy for herself? Wince along with Ribon as she tries to understand exactly how she ever thought she'd win a boy's heart by writing him a letter that began: "Share with me your soul," and ends with some remarkably awkward erotica. You'll come for the incredibly bad poetry, you'll stay for the incredibly bad poetry about racism. Raised on a tiny, New England peninsula, J. Dylan Yates pursued her BA from the University of Colorado-Boulder. Yates worked with Boulder County's Voices for Children program as a CASA volunteer for 15 years and now volunteers with the Big Sister program. The Belief in Angels, Yates's debut novel, won the Alexis Masters Scholarship Award at the February 2012 San Francisco Writers Conference. She lives in San Diego with her partner and a talking cat. Pamela Ribon is a bestselling author, television writer and performer. A pioneer in the blogging world, her first novel,Why Girls Are Weird, was loosely based on her extremely successful website pamie.com. The site has been nominated for a Bloggie in Lifetime Achievement, which makes her feel old. Ribon created the cult sensation and tabloid tidbit "Call Us Crazy: The Anne Heche Monologues", a satire of fame, fandom and Fresno. Her two-woman show, "Letters Never Sent" (created with four-time Emmy winner and "Jay Leno Show" favorite Liz Feldman) was showcased at the 2005 HBO US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. She has been writing in television for the past seven years, in both cable and network, including on the Emmy-award winning "Samantha Who?" starring Christina Applegate. Using her loyal Internet fan base, Ribon sponsors book drives for libraries in need. Over the years, pamie.com has sent thousands of books and materials to Oakland and San Diego, sponsored a Tsunami-ravaged village of schoolchildren, and helped restock the shelves of a post-Katrina Harrison County, Mississippi. Ribon's book drive can now be found at DeweyDonationSystem.org, which has sponsored libraries from the Negril School in Jamaica to the Children's Institute in Los Angeles.
Welcome to the blog entry counterpart to Episode 69 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. The biggest news for this show in the past week is that we're now recommended listening by Stitcher Smart Radio! That's right, particularly if you’re a podcaster just starting out and want to get a handle on this baby widecast medium. Just a couple of days ago, Stitcher mentioned that my appearance on the Podcaster 101 show is featured in their “So You Think You Can Podcast” Top Ten Helpful Tips section! I’ve been tweeting this past week (via @SuccotashShow) that Succotash will have a table set up in the Podcast Lab at this year’s Los Angeles Podcast Festival, which is happening in a couple of weeks — October 4 thru 6 in Santa Monica. You can get more information and get tickets at http://LAPodfest.com. Anybody can stop by our table – if we actually get a table – but I will have a Succotash banner and be giving away some cool magnetic buttons I just ordered – they’re like pins without the pin and feature the Succotash yellow and green logo. (they haven't even been delivered yet but, once they're here, I'll post a picture of them...) So do stop by if you’re at the fest. And, if YOU'RE a comedy podcaster, we’ll have our mics set up and I’ll do an interview with you which we’ll feature on the show. Some friends of Succotash are in town this week. In town meaning San Francisco at the San Francisco Improv Festival. And the friends are the cast of ILLUSIONOID!, one of our favorite podcasts. Paul Bates, Lee Smart, and Nug Nahrgang – the best name in podcasting – will be performing on Wednesday night, September 18th, at the Eureka Theater. So, if you’re in the Bay Area, buy tickets and join me in checking these guys out live and in person. LIVE APPEARANCE I’ll actually be performing live and in person a little later this month. Friday, September 27th, I’m going to be part of Marsh Jam, a new improv free-for-all that’s going up at the Marsh Cabaret in Berkeley. I think that’s at 8:30 and you can find out more at TheMarsh.org. HONORARY ASSOCIATE PRODUCER Special thanks again this show to Tyson Saner, whom I've dubbed as our Honorary Associate Producer for providing us with clips to some podcast he's discovered This episode in particular is loaded with Saner clips and it's a pleasure to have those available. THE TEN MOST ACTIVE ON THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCAST LIST Every week (or so) we're tracking the shows on Stitcher's Top 100 Comedy Podcast list that show the most action, either up OR down. Here's who distinguished themselves this week: 16. Bertcast’s Podcast +1229. The Champs with Neal Brennan & Moshe Kasher +2945. Jordan, Jesse, GO +3161. Smodcast >> FeAB -2766. The David Feldman Show -1770. Dining With Doug & Karen +2578. The Read -2885. The Insanity Check +2186. The Jack Blood Show +1698. Keith and the Girl Podcast -20 DOUBLE DOSE O' DURST AGAIN With this episode, I think I've finally caught up with the backlog of our Burst O' Durst feature, but only because we're playing one more double header with America's "Raging Moderate" Will Durst. THE LAST OF BOGANWOOD, SEASON 1 We feature the eighth and final chapter of Boganwood, Season 1, this show, along with the last snippet of my interview with this podcast miniseries creator, Jason McNamara. It's a bittersweet end of our having played all the episode. Bitter because it's ending, sweet because we've been keeping you occupied while Jabs (Jason to his mum) has been getting Boganwood, Season TWO underway! Check it out at http://Boganwood.com. THE CLIPS Jordan, Jesse, GO!This podcast moved up 31 spots this past week in the Stitcher Top 100 so that’s a good place to start. This is one of the shows in the Maximum Fun podcast arsenal. And they are about to hit Episode 300, so you know they’ve got a handle on this podcast thing. Featuring Jesse Thorn and Jordan Morris co-hosting what they refer to as “a freewheeling comedy podcast about life in your 20’s”. The most recent episode featured a visit with comedian and writer Liz Feldman and they got into talking about a place Jesse takes his 2-year-old. The Insanity CheckThis show, which got into the Top 100 on Stitcher’s Comedy Podcast this week at #85, is hosted by Kriss, Ryce, Dylan and a few other guests here and there. The show focuses on crazy things like working in the corporate world, politics, the entertainment industry and society as a whole. They’ve been dropping shows twice a week – I envy them – and so they recently sailed past 400 episodes. Their latest – Epi408 – is entitled The Can’t U Niggas Troll Convention. Harmontown This past week I reviewed this podcast from Dan Harmon, the creator of NBC’s Community – you know he’s back this season, after leaving last year – and also with Jeff Davis, a great improvisor from Whose Line Is It Anyway. My review is up as part of This Week In Comedy Podcasts on Splitsider.com. It’s a very entertaining show – and they’ve been on for only 2 more episodes than Succotash – maybe there's hope for me yet! Podhouse 90: The Wonderful Pundits of Oz Frank Coniff is a very funny writer and comedian - he’s currently working on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell - and has come up with a great concept that bends the parameters of podcasting. They’re these full-length musical comedy plays, with the title springboard off early TV’s “Playhouse 90”. Tyson Saner snipped us off a clip from The Wonderful Pundits of Oz, which picks up after the events as we know them from The Wizard of Oz. Great cast, too, with Coniff, Melissa Villasenor, Dave "Gruber" Allen, J. Elvis Weinstein, David Higgens, Laraine Newman, Emo Phillips, Dana Gould, Mark Thompson, Jamie Haddad Tompkins, and Joe Keyes. Combat Radio We haven’t played anything from our old pal Ethan Dettenmeier over at Combat Radio in awhile, so it was nice to have Tyson send in a clip from a recent show. Ethan had a couple of comedians in – Eric Mark and Justin Rivera – then threw in the author of Why Are You Single? Sonia Everett McKie just to stir the pot… Inverse DeliriumOur buddy, Geoffrey Welchman, over at the Inverse Delirium podcast, shot us in a clip this week – actually, he sent it in a couple of weeks ago but I lost it somehow. So he’s re-sent it in because he realized that the last couple of clip from Inverse Delirium we played didn’t actually have him in them. Here he is now, in a piece about EVPs or Electronic Voice Phenomena. SModcast >> Edumacation If Kevin Smith’s Smodcast brand were in grocery stores, they would have tons of consumer “facings”, as they’re called, because there are so many different flavors. Tyson Saner sent us in a clip from Edumacation, where Kevin gets schooled by someone new every time. This time, it’s Tonight Show writer Andy McElfresh who gives us the straight scoop on something called prosopagnosia, where the person can't identify people by their appearances, even celebrities. Evil Teddy Bear PodcastKorey Epps and Thomas Fine have hosted over 100 epis of their show. The tagline on their homesite reads: “Two film freaks, one podcast and a shitload of movies.” So this is mainly a movie review/tribute/slapfest. The hosts and their guest, Steve Sievers, about their first Kevin Smith movie experiences. That's is for Epi69. It's pretty jam-packed so I hope you enjoy it. See you soon and, while i'm out, would you mind passing the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Comedian and writer Liz Feldman joins Jordan and Jesse for a discussion of Jesse's horder neighbor, Terry Gross' cat, and the new website Lulu. Plus, Joe Blubaugh, winner of the full chort license plate contest comes by for a visit.
