Pete and Sam are back for the second time this week to break down the latest movement in the 247Sports recruiting rankings and what it means for Virginia Tech's commits. Which Hokie commits saw their stock rise? Who's climbing the national rankings? The guys also dive into the recently released Athlon Sports and Lindy's 2026 College Football Preview magazines, discussing where Virginia Tech lands in the ACC pecking order, the expectations for James Franklin's first season in Blacksburg, and whether the national media is buying into the Hokies' momentum heading into 2026.
Gambling is allowed now in college football after Brendan Sorsby is granted eligibility. What's next for the SEC? Then we dive into the preseason rankings that are coming out: Athlon ranks six SEC teams in the playoff and Alabama isn't one of them. Braden Gall and Trey Wallace talk SEC sports. Tennessee gave Brendan Sorsby a sniff. LSU heavily courted the Cincinnati transfer. Sorsby chose Texas Tech, as one of the most premier transfers of the winter shopping season. Then, the floor fell out. The NCAA learned Sorsby placed thousands of bets on sports and declared him ineligible. Now, a Texas judge has granted Sorsby an injunction that’ll block the NCAA from enforcing its gambling rules and allow Sorsby to play this season. Will SEC teams regret missing out on Sorsby, or did they dodge a troublesome situation? On today’s episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams weigh in on the Sorsby saga and the reverberations of the judge’s ruling. They also debate whether LSU or Tennessee would be better served with Sorsby than their current quarterback situations. Later in the episode, the hosts react to Athlon’s top-25 rankings. Eight SEC teams are ranked, and Toppmeyer and Adams earmark a few as being overrated, while they highlight one unranked SEC team as being worth a top-25 look.
The guys continue their roster talk and think back to the awful stuff from the previous coach. They also read anonymous football coaches quotes from Athlon.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

After a couple years off, we're returning to our annual tradition of each picking a year for our birthdays that we want to review in-depth from a tech and science perspective. This time Will picked 2002 because... well, you'll see, but it gave us the opportunity to reflect on a bunch of just-post-turn-of-the-century tech trends, like weird pre-smartphone mobile devices, the venerable WRT54G, all the Y2K techno-optimistic design trends, digital filmmaking going mainstream, a truly momentous March in the Linux world, the state of file sharing and music piracy, and plenty of other stuff.
